I recently purchased a Stihl MS462 from Ace Hardware and was told at the time of purchase that if I bought Stihl oil, my warranty would be extended to two years. That turned out to be completely untrue. When the tensioner was damaged, I brought the saw in for service. When I dropped it off, I was told it would be covered under warranty. However, when I went to pick it up, I was told the exact opposite, that the saw only carries a three‑month warranty because it's considered a professional model. The Stihl tech, Dave, informed me that the employee who originally sold me the saw (and gave me the wrong warranty information) had been fired. When I explained that it was unacceptable to mislead a customer on something as important as a warranty, he showed no concern at all. In fact, he was extremely rude. When I asked, "Can you see why I'd be a little upset?" he replied, "No, I really can't." This wasn't even about the cost, the repair was only about $40. What bothered me was the complete lack of customer service. Dave also told me he wouldn't have covered it anyway, even under warranty, claiming I must have hit a nail or Knott, which makes no sense for a tensioner failure. His explanations didn't line up with how these saws work, and it didn't feel professional. I spent over $2,000 on this saw and expected far better treatment. Instead, I left feeling dismissed and disrespected. Dave should receive customer service training, and the situation should have been escalated instead of turning into an argument. Had I known the true warranty details upfront, I would have purchased a Husqvarna, so they definitely lost my trust. I do want to add that the staff working there are great employee's and have been great to work with with exception to Dave and the Co-Owner. My wife will be leaving her own review regarding her interaction with a co-owner, as I was not part of that call. My advice go to a real small engine repair shop and keep a hardware store to just that, hardware. read more

My experience at this store today was nothing short of exhausting and deeply unprofessional. In my opinion, owner/manager Lance Gresko demonstrated a striking lack of integrity, patience, basic managerial competence, and even the most elementary math skills. I came in to make a simple Thanksgiving purchase and exchanged one mistaken item for another. The exchange was rung up incorrectly at a higher price than it should have been. After checking my receipt in my car, I went back inside to get the issue resolved. The assistant manager admitted he couldn't figure out the discrepancy, so I requested to speak with the actual manager. Lance approached me with a dismissive, almost irritated attitude, insisting "his computer could not be wrong." Despite me calmly showing him the numbers on a calculator--numbers anyone could verify--he repeatedly refused to walk through the transaction or check the math in a logical way. I entered the same simple calculation in front of him three times, yet it still didn't click. Only after persistent asking did he reluctantly agree to ring the item through as a pretend sale, and sure enough, the numbers on his own system matched what I had been trying to show him from the beginning. He then disappeared to the back again, presumably to re-check what was now undeniably obvious. After over 30 minutes of back-and-forth, he finally admitted he and the system had been wrong the entire time. At one point, while we were literally looking at the numbers on his screen, he even threatened to kick me out simply because I said, "Can we just let logic prevail that $29.xx minus a $10 credit is $19.xx?" Once the refund was finally issued, I asked for his name and the corporate number. Instead of providing them, he told me he was the owner and ordered me to leave the store. As I walked out, an employee collecting carts yelled an insult at me referencing my long hair--a level of childishness I honestly found more pathetic than offensive. He said "nice pony tail, faggot." In my personal experience, Lance showed a profound lack of professionalism and integrity, coupled with an inability to handle a basic customer-service scenario or perform simple arithmetic. I bought a capacitor here after bringing in the old one. The one I got would not fit the holder for it. So I took it back only to be told no returns on capacitors. I never put a single wire on it and for them to say there is no way to test it is a lie. There are plenty of meters will test it. Amazon for me. I'm not likely to return here again. "Traeger Grill Sold Defective - No Help from Assistant Manager. Be Warned." I purchased a Traeger grill from Ace Hardware in Roseville, CA, and it was defective right out of the box. The auger wouldn't turn, which means pellets couldn't move to the firebox, making the grill completely unusable. Per Traeger's own instructions, you're supposed to season the grill with pellets to test if it works. That's when I discovered the problem. I called the store immediately to try to resolve it. I was transferred to Corey from the BBQ department, who put me on hold, and then the call was disconnected. I tried again, with the same result, twice more. On the fourth call, I finally got in touch with Corey again and explained the situation. I told him at this point that I just wanted to return the grill and get a refund. He said, "If you have the receipt, bring it in and we'll take care of it." However, when I arrived today, receipt in hand, the Assistant Manager, Matt, told me that he could not return it because "pellets were run through it." I explained that this step is part of Traeger's standard setup process, and I even read him Ace's own return policy in-store. He still refused to honor it. Matt wasn't yelling, but he was condescending and dismissive, and he raised his voice because I challenged him to honor their return policy. He treated me like I was making the whole thing up, even questioning whether I had been hung up on earlier. I asked to speak with the store owner, and Matt handed me a business card. But the "owner's number" on the card? It just rings back to the store. I called it right in front of him, and the cashier picked up immediately. When I asked, "Isn't this the owner's number?" Matt replied, "He's home with his family. You can call between 7 am and 4 pm and ask for him then." He then walked away, saying he was "trying to help me," while refusing to take back a $500 grill that was dead on arrival. When I asked who was above him, he said he was second in command to the owner and reminded me that Ace stores are individually owned, as if that meant they're above accountability. Bottom line: I was sold a defective product, treated like a liar, and denied a fair return. I've since filed a dispute with my credit card company. Home Depot or Costco would have resolved this issue immediately, with professionalism and a refund, without requiring a lengthy process. Update: June 2024. Stopped in for some screws. Got happy help from amiable employee. Wife was wowed by the amazing full aisle of Bar B Que spices and salsas. We got some of that, too. But the real kicker: While checking out at the cashier I noticed the two cabinet freezers by the front window. My immediate reaction and hope, "Is that full of those legendary pies I heard about in the ACE Hardware in Auburn California?" I made the beeline to the coolers and lo and behold, yes there is an entire 6' wide freezer full of pies!!! At least 8 different fruit fillings. Bambie sez: "definitely get the peach". Th cashier guy chimes in, "Yeah that's the one". Cooked it up tonight. From frozen follow the directions, 350 degree oven for 50 minutes until the top crust is golden brown. I've used this ace Hardware a lot. As it's basically one of the only ones in the area. They used to have very good customer service. Lately they are lacking for sure. Recently I use them to sharpen one of my Stihl chainsaw chains. Never received a call that it was done. Never received a call that they were throwing it away. As when I went to pick it up, they told me it was gone and there's nothing they could do. So not only did I pay to buy a chain there. I paid to have it sharpened. And now it's gone. I recently bought a 26" Weber kettle here and after assembling it the top of the grill did not fit to the base correctly. I had to push around all of the edges with my hands and it would click into place with some pressure. I spoke with Weber and they agreed this is not how the top piece should fit. One of the managers, Matt told me that all Weber grills fit like the one I purchased and that it is normal for how they function. I own the smaller version of this grill and the top easily fits into place with zero effort. After talking to Matt he said to bring it in and they would replace it. They did give me a second grill and when I got home to assemble the new grill it was missing half the components needed to assemble it. No ash catcher, top handle, grip for the side handle to name a few. I spoke to Matt and he said to bring it back with the receipt. After coming to the store they did give me my money back which was nice but told me I couldn't buy another grill here - not that I would want to. Matt wouldn't come out from the back to hear me out or try to fix the issue, or offer a solution. Just seems a little off that when you try to buy from a local store and get a defective product, then a product missing multiple pieces they treat you like you are the problem. Despite arriving before the store officially closed at 8:00 PM, I was met with hostility from two employees, Troy and long hair coworker, Instead of assisting me, they both made a series of excuses about how it was "almost 8 o'clock" and how I should have come earlier. Their attitudes were shockingly unprofessional. They acted as if my request was a major inconvenience and made it clear they didn't want to help me. The situation escalated quickly--both employees became increasingly aggressive and even yelled at me. Their behavior was so hostile that I felt physically threatened, as if they were ready to attack me. This was a truly horrible experience, and I would not recommend this location to anyone based on how I was treated. Customer service should never be like this. Worst hardware store EVER! From the moment I walked in, a wide-eyed millennial employee followed me around the store, pretending to scan items while profiling me as a potential shoplifter. After about 10 minutes of this nonsense, I put the item I came to the store to buy (a $5 bottle of car cleaner) in my pocket to see what would happen. What ensued was one of the most ridiculous, offensive, over-the-top show of unprofessionalism I have ever experienced. Immediately, a gang of about 4-5 employees approached and surrounded me. I handed them the bottle I planned to buy, at which point one of the be gang pushed me into a metal display. I recovered from the spill, only to find the employee had gone full mad-dog - hissing, cursing, red faced and spewing spit, he began raving in my face about what a piece of shi* I was while threatening to beat the *hit out of me. I chose to remain silent and walked out of the store after realizing this employee was unstable mentally and on the verge of giving himself a heart attack. As I left the store, this employee spit on me and threatened to slit my throat if he ever saw me again. Anger management anyone? Traeger grills had big signs saying they are on sale. The sales rep Tyler told us they will be on sale for the rest of January. We told him we would go home and measure where we want the grill and come back the next day. We came back the next day. At the cash register, the Traieger grill came up at full price. The girl at the cash register told us that the manager would override the system or use a coupon to adjust to the advertised price. When the manager arrived at the register, he looked at my wife and said, " If you asked nice, I would have given you the sale price. That's when I steeped in and said your telling my wife if she appeases you, then you will give her the discount?" He was rude to me , and I replied, "I'm being professional and polite, and you're being rude to me." He said, "You're right, I'm sorry.
