Multigenerational, cheap by any standard, and the food is absolutely amazing. It tastes like you are eating in someone's home, and the welcome you receive upon ordering is just as warm. There's free chai on the Southernmost table, where they stack the napkins, along with sugar and Splenda you can use to sweeten it to taste. Roshona Bilash is the best of what you'd want in a Bangladeshi restaurant, a local haunt, and the spot that replaced an irreplaceable restaurant all at once. For almost 30 years, I had a favorite LA restaurant. Multi generational, amazing food, they knew my whole family by name and we knew theirs. It felt like home. It was a Thai restaurant, and it was the standard by which I judged other Thai restaurants. But also the standard by which I judged my dates/friends. If they loved the food, they were worthy. If they couldn't see past its humble looks, maybe their taste was a bit suspect. I stood on the sidewalk crying months ago when I saw the sign for Roshona Bilash that was to replace my it. But tonight I tried the food. And it was amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better replacement of my favorite restaurant. Little has changed. The door is the same, and there is a sign that they're closed on Mondays hand-written in Sharpie taped to the door. The layout unchanged, save for the elongated counter and the now empty hot table that had housed fried bananas and coconut desserts since before I could drive. Even the white tile with pink flowers in the bathroom that I've known since I was 15 is familiar. Yet amazingly, even though the Sunshine family has moved on, Ibrahim, Jasmine, and their kids (Shaq's smile is the first thing that greets you) carry on the same familial kindness that made its restaurant predecessor so charming. Bangladeshi food isn't new to the area. There are many others around that have been lauded by critics and as revered and brilliant as the late Jonathan Gold. My family has been eating at the various incarnations of the Halal meat market-come-restaurant on 3rd since the 90s, before the area was dubbed Little Bangladesh, and when you could only get special biryanis on Wednesdays. We were the kind of family who, rather than being deterred by eating in front of the raw goat head behind the counter, relished instead in knowing our food was that fresh. It's not Roshona Bilash's fault that they have so much to live up to in my eyes. With all of that history, all of that meaning, loving this new spot was a tall order. But Ibrahim used to own a shop up the street, too. He ate at Sunshine, and asked the building's owner about moving into it when it closed. Like Sunshine, there's something comforting and homey about Roshona Bilash. The biryani isn't dyed. It looks modest, but wafts with cardamom. The chai is rich, and complimentary. Even the Nihari (bone marrow stew) manages to be meaty, rather than slick with oil. I've never had anything like the thick brown chutney they served with the chicken wings, which Shaq proudly told me was special because it had elephant apple in it. What's more amazing than eating something totally new? Fibrous, garlicky, and redolent of something with a horseradish pungency. I couldn't have asked for a more delicious, unpretentious, and satisfying replacement. It's like the location was only made for restaurants that are unassuming, affordable, and absolutely delectable. You'll leave with your belly full and your heart warmed. read more

Okay, I am a newcomer when it comes to Bangladeshi food, so take this with a grain of salt. This place was good. I ordered the chicken tikka as a wrap, which was very tasty, and filling. It was huge. It was also, I have to say, not really a wrap. It was kind of like a wrap married a burrito. A wrapito. So, it had lettuce, tomato, and a salad dressing-like sauce like a wrap, but it also had rice, and was wrapped in a tortilla like a burrito. I didn't care; it was super good. I also got a couple of their savory pastries to go, and had them for dinner. They were also really flavorful and good, and travelled well. As for the place itself, the staff was very friendly, and the place was clean and had a lot of tables inside. It was rather low key, so don't go if you're looking for something fancy. The place is located in a mini mall, so there's some parking out front, but not a lot, though there's more than enough street parking. I will be going back. read more

If you're craving authentic Bangladeshi flavors done right, Roshona Bilash is an absolute gem. Their doi fuchka is hands down one of the best I've ever had perfectly crispy shells filled with tangy, spiced yogurt that hits every note just right. The morog polou was equally impressive fragrant, rich, and beautifully balanced, with tender chicken that melts in your mouth. You can tell a lot of care goes into the preparation. I also tried their Poila Boishakh platter, and it completely stole the show. The variety and authenticity were incredible, but what really stood out was the bhorta easily the best I've ever had. Each one was packed with flavor, fresh, and made with that homemade touch that's hard to find. Overall, Roshona Bilash delivers not just food, but an experience that feels nostalgic and comforting. The food was so good!! We ordered the following items: - Chicken tikka plate + roti: juicy chicken, rice, salad + flat bread. Every culture has a variation of chicken and rice dish. This version is perfection. - Nihari (bone marrow stew): It's a flavor dense shredded beef stew. Make sure to get some flat bread for dipping or rice to dunk in. - Veggie Singara (it's like a samosa): perfectly crispy dough and the most scrumptious filling. The green sauce that it comes with is the perfect pairing. - Fuchka (crispy morsel filled with potato): there's a nice contrast of textures. Such a fun starter. The food was fresh and every bite was a flavor bomb. Try it out. The order was more than enough for 2 people and you get to try a variety of different items. I love the food here. The restaurant is a very simple but reasonably comfortable "shop." Its only real weak spot is adjusting to the demand created for To Go orders by the May 2026 Eater L.A. review. Otherwise this was a pleasant surprise with a delicious but not fancy lamb shank. I hope that they can soon offer vegetable sides to go with their savory meat and rice offerings. read more

I can't believe this joint has four and half stars and made the list of LA Eater "hottest new restaurants in Los Angeles". This place sucks. The food is so unappealing. I had the worst beef biryani. This place was a hit and a miss for us. The first time we tried we absolutely loved the food despite the wait time being really long (45mins). Tried the chicken tikka, nihari, goat pulao which they only have it on Friday (not always) and the paratha. The next time, the Nihari lacked meat, the tikkas were dry, paratha wasn't flaky and they didn't have the goat pulao. Parking is also difficult and the place is small so fills up pretty quickly. Really happy this opened up in my neighborhood. I've been waiting to see what takes the place of Sunshine Thai, and Roshona Bilash delivers on the same homey vibes. Went here for lunch today. Its a small spot, family run, with a limited menu. I ordered a Shingala(A Bangledeshi Samosa) which was totally fine(It was good as I expected) but the green chutney sauce really took it up a notch. The green chutney had some mustard in it, which gave it a really nice punch of flavor without it being like a horseradish. I also ordered Lamb Shank and Morog Polao (pretty much a full chicken leg in a cream sauce like a Korma with seasoned basmati rice) and a Paratha. The food (aside from the Shingala) was made to order, so it took about 30 or so minutes. Dont eat here if you are in a rush. They had Chai in a dispenser for no charge and water machine as well. The Paratha and Shank came first(I think they only make it Thursday-Sun) and its one of the better Lamb Shanks Ive had in SE Asian cuisine. Its very similar to a Indian style Lamb Shank curry, and the sauce was very flavorful. The meat easily came off the bone, not quite "tenderism" but very close. The paratha was huge like the diameter of med-large pizza, far larger than any parathas Ive had before. Really nice and flakey, and great to sop the sauce. At 18 bucks, its a great deal. The Morog came next, and it was a very good cream sauce with a large serving of seasoned basmati rice. I still had enough left of the Paratha to dunk in the sauce. It was like a cross between a Korma and a butter chicken. Very mild. The owner's son who was working today offered me some Naga chili to add to my food. It was very strong and I only needed a drop or 2 to add to the sauces to give a little kick. I would say the food I ordered served mild to low medium heat by default. If you want the food spicier without having the naga chile on the side you can ask. They have some desserts in the fridge you can take for like 3-7 dollars or so. I had a small cup of sweet Doi yogurt for 3 bucks that was a good palate cleanser for the food. Ive been missing a good legit SE Asian area restaurant since I cant get to Zam Zam easily(Also change in ownership the quality isnt quite up to par, still good but not great) and this place is reachable for me from Metro and Bike. I ate like a horse for $36 with tip (really closer to 39 since I had the yogurt after) and I look forward to trying their tandoori, kebabs, and other dishes. I normally go a few visits to a place, but I have had quite a bit of Indian-Pakistani and other SE Asian foods that I can honestly say with the dishes I had the quality was there. This place is a winner and I hope they have more success in the future. I look forward to going back very soon. I certainly think this place is even better to eat with friends and family. read more

Saw this place on The Infatuation and wanted to check it out and I am so glad I did! The first thing you see when you walk in is a pastry case with delicious looking ready-to-eat savory items, so if you are in a rush, they've got you covered. But if you've got time to sit down, their menu is so reasonably priced (and they don't skimp on the portions) that you should treat yourself to a few entrees . My boyfriend and I shared the nihari (bone marrow) and the morog polao (chicken leg in a delicious sauce). Absolutely knocked my socks off. You will always find mother, father, son, or daughter working in the kitchen and at the register, serving food from their country of origin, Bangladesh. This will not be like any south asian culinary experience you've had before. It's a charming blend of traditional recipes and LA-grown inspiration. Everything is prepared to order. A particular highlight is the Roshona Kebab, a wholly original layered beef skewer which the chef spent over a year developing prior to the restaurant's opening. All of their chicken dishes are stellar, so juicy and full of flavor. And their snacks are not like any you will find anywhere else in LA. The made-to-order naan, paratha, and roti will sooth your soul. And I would recommend trying one of the kebabs in a wrap! Great for on-the-go. In just a matter of months, Roshona Bilash has earned a special place in my heart. It's a true no-frills establishment, with everything served on disposable dish wear like a family cookout.
