Food, amazing. Operations, not great (but also not bad enough for me to dock a star). Enjoyed the veggie empanada and mackerel croquette, but LOVED the lamb lamprais and kurry seafood paella. The lamb in the lamprais was so tender and the sambal caramelized onions really put it over the top for me. I didn't see the paella mentioned in very many reviews - so slept on. It was my favorite bite of the night. We also got mango pineapple lassi, which tasted like a marriage between a pina colada and a mango lassi. Easily the best mango lassi I've ever had. Only the chef's counter was available, which I usually enjoy, but it was so hot from the cooking and not much AC to counter it - I'd try to get an actual table next time. And they seemed to be out of a lot of dishes only halfway through dinner service, so if you're coming for some of their biggest hits (per reviews, like the coconut risotto mahi mahi) like I was, maybe call ahead to check. They also forgot one of our entrees, but as soon as they realized it they put a rush on it and comped a portion of our bill, so they made up for it. Will definitely be back! read more

i wanted to check this place out after seeing a waitstaff here post on tiktok about the business struggling. it was my first time trying sri lankan cuisine, and kurrypinch was a great introduction. we ordered the kotu roti w/ lamb (28), mackerel croquettes (3.5 ea), chicken kalu curry with ghee parottas (25), grilled shrimp salad (22) i would not get the grilled shrimp salad again. we were served 4-5 shrimp dressed with some fragrant vegetables and although they were seasoned & grilled very well, the portion and price didn't make sense to me. my favorite was the mackerel croquette and kotu roti. the croquette was fresh, seasoned well with an array of spices and paired well with the mackerel filling. the kotu roti was hearty, tender and flavored with warm spices that also complimented the soft lamb meat in the dish. the kalu curry was also decent, but i think the lentil curry could have benefited from a bit more salt and i think the chicken was just a bit too salty for my liking. i really would have liked to try the lamprais but it's only available on weekends, so i'll have to come back to try that. read more

Came here to try something different and it was well worth it. Food was truly amazing. We started off with the veggies empanadas. These were piping hot (which we learned the hard way!) but once we let them cool a bit you could taste the wonderful curried potatoes. There was a literal drop of sauce that came with them which was good but not enough for two servings. For entrees we shared the chicken kalu kurry and the coconut milk risotto mahi. I loved the chicken dish, it was juicy and tender and the lentils were silky and full of spicy goodness. The coconut risotto was also phenomenal with that coconut base. I felt like a bad bih that came from Sri Lanka. The moment I arrived, I immediately felt like I was on a solo trip, fully in my Eat, Pray, Love era. I was comfortably surrounded by locals, which always makes me feel like I've found something special. I sat at a small table for two by the window. The lighting was warm and sunset-like--bright enough to read the menu and feel alive, yet ambient, like the height of golden hour. The space felt sophisticated but still chill and low-key. It was airy, almost like dining inside a series of curtained cabanas. The service was excellent: attentive without being stuffy or haughty. When I asked for recommendations, I received confident and specific answers. The food arrived fairly quickly, and my appetizers came out with perfect timing, giving me plenty of time to enjoy them before my entrée arrived. I ordered the Mackerel Croquette and the Shrimp Kurrypanada. I enjoyed both. The croquette was mild and flavorful without tasting fishy. The shrimp kurrypanada had deep flavor, and there was shrimp in every single bite. I give both a 7.8/10. Next came the Mango Pineapple Lassee. Perfection. Not too sweet and not too thick. I almost drank the entire thing before my dinner arrived, but somehow managed to hold back. By the end of the meal, though, every last drop was gone. 10/10. For my main course, I ordered the Deviled Chicken. It tasted like Sri Lankan soul food--deeply spiced and tossed with fresh tomato, onion, and bell pepper. Smoky, spicy, and absolutely phenomenal paired with the fried rice, which was lighter and airier than Chinese fried rice while still holding its own flavor-wise. I give it an 8/10. Overall, this was a wonderful dining experience. Great atmosphere, excellent service, and flavorful food. So yeah... Kurtypinch has been on my list for a while, finally checked it off. This was our first time being exposed to Sri Lankan food, we walked away very pleased with the flavor profiles. Kicked it off with two veggie samosas, both potato based (wish there was more side sauce). Very good experience all around. We were seated inside and the setting is cute, but it is CRAZY loud. Food was good, although nothing really stood out as exceptional. The service was friendly, but a bit overwhelmed. I had requested a glass of wine that I saw set on the bar but wasn't delivered until they brought our apps and I requested the wine. Server told me it was on it's way, but it sat for nearlt 10 minutes before I got it. Additionally, after clearing the table, server just brought us the check and never asked about dessert, which we were interested in trying. Not an issue, but rather odd. Good food, very slow service. Took almost an hour to get our cocktails and longer to get the entrees. Nothing came out together, there was about a 20 minute gap from getting the first entree to the last entree. That all could've been fine, but there was no communication or warning about the long wait times. Nobody ever checked if we needed refills. It did seem that the server was overwhelmed by the number of tables (it was a Saturday, the inside was full, and there were a couple tables outside) and they seemed to be the only one working. If they are understaffed, that is not the servers fault. That said, they weren't warm to begin with and they were quite snippy when asked about the situation, and that left a bad taste in our mouths. The food was all very tasty, but not enough to make up for the rest of the experience. Can't really recommend this spot. read more

Came here on a Thursday night and it was not too busy. Street parking in the nearby neighborhood. Service was quick and friendly. I had the chicken Kotu Roti. I let the server know that I had a dairy allergy and they let me know that most plates are dairy-free by default. They also noted which plates contained dairy. They have a veggie option for most plates so I'd assume many plates are vegan friendly as well. The Kotu Roti was fun! I appreciated the blend of spices and the way the bread blends in with the food. It was lacking a bit of salt, but nothing too crazy. They have indoor, outdoor, and bar seating. Perfect for solo dinner, date nights, or small group nights. The fried banana split was the most incredible dessert I have ever had. The banana was perfectly sweet and caramelized, the nuttiness and crunch from the English caramel toffee ice cream was heavenly, the date syrup and roasted cashews were fantastic. This is a 12/10 plate, seriously, no notes. Kudos to whoever created this dish because they deserve ALL THE PRAISE! I would go back again and again for this dessert alone. One of the best restaurants in LA serving authentic Sri Lankan food. Situated on the corner of Hollywood Blvd, the restaurant presents a nice curb appeal with an expansive open-concept patio. Seating is also available indoors. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with impeccable customer service. We did not have a reservation, but were anyways seated right away. Our waitress was super accommodating and checked in on us constantly. The food was brought out rather quick, and really resembled authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. I can highly recommend the: Shrimp Kurrypanadas (basically their twist of a an empanada with shrimp), Deviled Chicken, Kotu Roti with chicken, String Hopper Pilau, and the Beef Kurry Sandwich. I tried so hard not to distract the staff in the kitchen (I probably failed) and found all of them to be warm, kind, and passionate about their craft. Food was unique, portions were huge (from my perspective) were nicely balanced We are in town for 90 days while my wife completes a surgery rotation, and Kurrypinch is in our little neighborhood. My cousin picked this place to try. I was excited cause I never had Sri Lankan food. This place is located where parking was hard to find. We were able to park on the residential street about a block away. Please give some time to find parking. Walking into the restaurant gave a vibe of cozy and nice. We started the night off with the deviled chicken and badhuma. I'm usually a fan of potatoes but I thought the badhuma was okay. I did really like the taste of the deviled chicken. I love the dish that I picked. I ordered the Coconut milk risotto with baked Mahi Mahi. This dish was properly prepared and balance. The milk risotto together with the Mahi Mahi worked so well together. It was really good. It would a dish I would order again. We also ordered one coconut roti for each to try. The coconut roti is different in texture than I'm use to. I did like the flavor of it. It also tasted great the next day as breakfast with eggs. The service was great. Service was very friendly, but dreadfully slow. It took over 2.5 hours for 4 appetizers and 4 entrees. Actually three entrees because they forgot an entire dish that we just told them to skip finally. Dirty plates and food piled up on our table as we watched other diners arrive, eat, and leave. Both me and my friend wanted to try it and they were really nice about accommodating a big group of five of us despite other parties taking up the tables for bigger groups. After getting seated on their cozy patio, we got prompt and friendly service. This place packs a punch with flavor. I was pleasantly surprised with every dish and already thinking about my next return. The restaurant is classy and great for a date or with a group of four friends. This is what we got: Deviled Chicken with Boneless Thigh Meat (19). The difference between this and the deviled delicacy is that this doesn't come with rice, but with all the flavor rice would have been great to soak it all up. We ate every last piece of chicken as well as the bits of onion. The chicken was surprisingly not dry. Medium was the perfect spice level. Coconut Milk Risotto With Baked Mahi-Mahi (45) worth the price for it's innovation. Great flavor and texture. I was in love. A must get to share between two people. Kotu Roti Kotu Parata (20) - Amazing flavor and arguably better as leftovers. We got this medium with fried chicken, but I think any protein would work here. Delicious, but the Risotto was much stronger which is probably why I liked this more the next day as a stand alone. Watalappan (12) - A nice dessert, but I didn't love the texture. My eating mate loved it, but for me, I'd try the other desserts. I loved that the server gave us approximations of how long the desserts would take to make Easy to get a table and parking on Tuesday night. Great spot! read more

This used to be our favorite restaurant when it was in Tarzana, so we were really looking forward to visiting the new location. We came right when they opened with our twin toddlers, expecting a similar welcoming experience. Unfortunately, we were told we could not be seated inside and were only offered outdoor seating in the heat. The explanation given was that a large party reservation would be taking up the entire restaurant. However, the space appeared mostly empty during our visit around noon, which made the situation confusing and frustrating. After reading other recent reviews, we noticed similar experiences mentioned by families with young children, which raises some concerns. We hope this isn't a pattern, but it would be disappointing if families felt unwelcome. We truly loved this restaurant before, which makes this experience especially disheartening. I decided to try Kurrypinch for an early evening weekend dinner recently, and my experience was mixed. I did not have a reservation, but there was availability for solo seating as a walk-in. Throughout my meal, service was scattered; the person who seated me did not return until the end of my meal, and a different employee got my food order and checked in during the meal. Unfortunately, there was a significant delay in getting my meal ready, and while the second employee was apologetic, it left me with an impression that there are still kinks to work out in how they are managing their kitchen. It made me grateful for not ordering an appetizer, and I definitely was not going to get dessert. In spite of the service challenges, I enjoyed my meal. The mango lassi was refreshing and tart, and the Pol Roti with chicken curry was a satisfying meal. Combining morsels of the curry with the the dhal and sambal was fun, but I also savored the chicken curry by itself with the hefty roti servings. The biryani was pretty good, but the deviled delicacy chicken was inexcusably tough and rather bland, even when ordered "medium". I was here recently with my bf for our date night. We were seated right away for our reservation. Our server had weird, new-person energy and didn't check on us very often. They sat us outside, which was nice on a mild summer evening. Unfortunately, as it got dark, the flood lights came on, and they were a bit overwhelming. My bf got the Kurrypinch iced coffee. It was fine - I thought it would be overly sweet with the condensed milk. Thankfully, it was not. We started with the shrimp kurry empanda. They were incredibly flavorful. Then the Pol Roti with chicken. The star of the visit! The roti was dense and toothsome. The lentil curry was complex, and the seeni sambal went well with everything! The owners response alone can show the perspective. Always interesting to see owners perspective for a review. Rather than working to improve on the concern, it shows the arrogance and pride. Which translates to the servers and workers mindset. I did mention I will write a poor review as I used the app to find this place. This owner don't understand that Yelp is a space for customer experience and there is positive and negative remarks to share that users use to evaluate a business. Owners inability to to understand the purpose along and demonstrate the excuses etc on the concern as to this establishment treatment of parents with children and strollers. What a shame not to have any concern to a child under one years of age to be seated back of a chair and not be engaged in a meal with the parents. Rather than just taking the feedback this owner is trying to justify the actions. If your tables are reversed then say only outside available. Also, I am wondering how 16 people can fit this place. How many people are allowed to occupy this space? This restaurant should get some updated customer de escalation training as all I can see is this dude trying to come up with excuses and not understand his staff profiled and I'll treat us.
