Rosine's is, like most in Monterey, a good place for a good family dining experience. Service may be a little spotty, but understandable given the volume of guests. You must try the desserts, which are made in house, are served in large portions, and change often. With respect to cost, dinner is quite reasonable. This place is delicious! The sweet and savory pancakes were the best pancakes I've had. Bacon, cheddar cheese and green onions with honey butter, YUM!! We also ordered the Works omelette which was FULL of meat- ham, sausage and bacon and it was huge. We left very full and happy. Had the best service too. I came back the next day to pick up some cake slices to bring home and the strawberry slice was out of this world. It was super moist and the frosting is a nice whipped cream. Our sweet waitress told me that Guy Fieri would be coming back soon so they'll be reappearing on DDD. I will definitely be back the next time I am in downtown Monterey. My husband and I were on our baby moon in Monterrey and decided to try Rosine's since it had many great Yelp reviews. When we got there and looked through the menu we realized that it had been on Guy Fieri's show, Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives! We had to try their famous lasagna. While it was delicious and warm- the sauce was on the sweet side for my personal liking. We also ordered wings that were also too sweet for our liking but still yummy and crispy. Featured on Triple D! Come to Rosine's for classic comfort food located in historic Downtown Monterey. They don't take reservations, but have a Yelp waitlist you can join. We added ourselves to the list and waited ~45 minutes on a Thursday night. A family friendly restaurant. The staff were accommodating of our stroller and gave us a spacious table for 4 outside next to a heat lamp. The server recommended their steak salad as an appetizer, seasoned and cooked perfectly, but not the best cut of meat. Come hungry because the entrees were massive, leaving us with plenty of leftovers. The chicken parmesan was hearty, topped with melted cheese over a bed of Alfredo fettuccine. We also enjoyed the breaded calamari, which came as one grilled generous steak of calamari. Apparently Rosine's is known for their cakes, but sadly we were too full to try any of their desserts. We'll make sure to save room for dessert next time we're back in Monterey! read more

We were excited to try another Triple D restaurant (IYKYK). There were 7 in our party. The wait to be seated was very minimal. The atmosphere seemed pleasant. The restaurant was full and the noise level was high, which should be expected with the restaurant being essentially one giant room. After being seated, we watched, in amazement, as huge portions of steaming entrees were brought out to various tables. Our server was nice. We ordered our drinks, which came out quickly and appetizers followed shortly after. The potato skins and hummus were exactly what we expected. Nothing was elevated and similar to what we could get anywhere. We ordered the entrees which seemed to take a while to come out. This was not an inconvenience because timing is always considered when preparing food for a large group. It gave us time to have conversations and share stories. When our food was brought to our table, we were excited to see the large portions once again. From there, our delight went to disappointment. The lamb shanks were difficult to eat. The meat did not cut easily from the bone. The hot beef (edited from previous post) was extremely salty. The Triple D famous minestrone soup was lackluster. The mashed potatoes and broccoli casserole was the highlight. The remaining dishes in our party were reported as "okay". The biggest let down was the follow up service. Our server disappeared. We weren't sure if she got busy with other tables or helping in the kitchen but no one ever followed up after they brought our entrees. No one came to refill our drinks, they remained empty. The manager, Justin, spent most of his time at the front door hovering over the hostess. Perhaps if he spent more time checking on customers and supporting the servers by refilling drinks or bringing food out, he could ensure customers were well taken care of. The hostess seemed competent and there weren't tons of empty tables that needed filling. He looked like he was doing a lot of running around in the front doing nothing. I come to Monterey at least annually looking for new dining experiences and places to recommend to colleagues. Rosine's will be low on my list. read more

I waited about 20 minutes in line for a neighboring popular bakery but when I got in the door everything looked unappetizing and so I decided to take a couple steps down the road and walked straight into Rosine's. The service here is excellent and they have the nicest people!! It was my first time ever trying chicken fried steak and eggs for brunch and I was not disappointed. The chicken was moist and crispy and paired with the gravy beautifully. The portion size was big enough to share which I really liked. Our service was excellent! My friend's and I enjoyed our dinners. However, being it was a DDD recommendation I was somewhat disappointed. The minestrone soup was very good. It wasn't as thick as they showed on the show but tasty nonetheless. The lasagna was more of a letdown. It wasn't as tall as I'd imagined the 4 layers to be and the tomato sauce on top was very acidic. I scraped most of that off, and the rest of it was pretty decent. The star of the show for me was the toasted coconut cake. Moist chocolate cake with yummy frosting and toasted coconut. We were able to get a half slice which was still plenty for the 4 of us. A family owned establishment that offers a wide variety of options. American, italian, sweet, savory. My kids enjoyed the Mickey pancakes. Only $4.99. The onion rings were thick and had a nice crunch. The wings were a huge portion and doused with sauce yet every bite was still crispy. Loved that they were generous with the ranch! The pesto pasta was creamy and the garlic bread was a nice partner to the dish. It's extra for the chicken but worth it if you're like me and need a protein with your carbs. The cakes...OMG. Basically stood in front of the glass case forever because everything was calling my name. Ended up choosing the chocolate truffle - a gigantic slice for $9. It basically filled an entire to go box, and then some. Seemed to be a popular spot for the locals. Glad we came on a weekday for a late lunch. Via Yelp while searching for a restaurant open until late, found Rosine's and decided to check it out. Added our name to the waitlist via Yelp before driving over and, after checking in with hostess, we were seated right away. Our server was friendly and checked on us often. We were looking to order apps so we can try their cakes. However, didn't realize that they were generous portions. We ordered: 1) Beef minestrone (bowl) - would've ordered a cup but the bowl was only $1 more. It was a big bowl served with 3 slices of bread and butter. Soup arrived lukewarm and, for me, I just wasn't crazy about it as this soup was a tad sweet. 2) Sweet & Spicy Wings - hubs loves his chicken wings and enjoyed these wings. 3) Loaded potato skins - these arrived lukewarm as well so cheese was hard. Liked the flavors, though. 4) Rocky Road cake - I was too full but hubs couldn't resist trying a slice. Lots to choose from so it was a difficult decision. He finally opted for the Rocky Road. Huge slice! I took a bite to try and it was good. Moist chocolate cake. Chocolate frosting is good and not too sweet. Liked the texture with the nuts. As mentioned, the service was great. ROSINE'S Restaurant For years we've taken day trips to Carmel and Monterey but for some reason, we never really ventured out beyond Fisherman's Wharf or Del Monte area or Ocean Drive. For this visit, we read reviews by other Yelpers and tried Rosine's. We were warned that there could be a wait which could mean two things - they didn't have enough servers (a COVID side effect) or it was popular & a favorite. Fortunately, there was no wait at 1:15 PM. The brunch menu was quite unique and included fall flavors so it was the Pumpkin Pancake combo for me - three large pancakes, crispy bacon, and poached egg! The poached egg was exactly as I preferred - firm but not dry. The pumpkin pancakes was moist and delicious. It was not overpowered by cinnamon. The bacon was very crispy, like I like it! The ambience of the place was very relaxed yet the décor was refined and tasteful. When you enter, you can't miss the cakes and pies in the refrigerated case. The cakes were tall ... it seemed like a slice would be 6-10 in thick! Service was friendly and attentive. My coffee was refilled without prompting. Missy was our server and she provided excellent service. This is my second time here, I really love the food, the service the portion size. The price is very fair. We enjoyed the outdoor seating, inside was very nice a little to loud to my liking, outdoor had a heater that was very warm.. my only complaint would be that there is only two restrooms, other than that everything is great. Total - ~$90 + $17 tip I decided to go on a date with my significant other to find the best clam chowder in Monterey. We decided to stop by Rosine's for dinner after a hike. We had a pup and thankfully they allowed us to seat outside and they graciously turned on the heaters for us. It's safe to say that the hospitality was exemplary. My one major criticism I have is that the food feels largely uninspiring and lackluster. Yes, the food delivers in a standard perspective in terms of taste and texture, but I just feel like it falls short on any style, diversity, or complexity whatsoever. This restaurant feels like a tourist trap serving run-of-the-mill dishes. Clam chowder - It's probably one of the saltier clam chowder soups I've had. Definitely cheesy and is served in lieu with entrees, so it's worth a try. Try Sea Harvest instead. 3.4/5 Surf & Turf - carrots unseasoned and parboiled, and broccoli with broiled cheese are definitely standard steak additions. The shrimp was not overcooked which I can genuinely appreciate. The steak itself was definitely leaning towards medium rather than medium rare which was what I asked for but the steak was still pretty tender. The liquid smoke ruins it for me. The grill marks were so uniform that it felt unnatural. I don't understand why people don't just pan sear, baste, and call it a day. 3.2/5 Portabella Mushroom Ravioli - The pasta itself tastes like a prepackaged costco bag of frozen ravioli. The sauce was dripping with oil. There was no acidity whatsoever to cut through all the fat. On top of that, I personally believe that toasted almonds adds nothing to this dish. I would recommend using the almonds for a seafood dish and not this, ex. Trout Almondine. The garlic bread was pretty good though. 2.4/5 They do have a great selection of beers to which I partook, and my significant other enjoyed their selection of Rosé. This restaurant was highly recommended but unfortunately it doesn't stand out to me. I would consider Rosine's to be an alright American restaurant but I wish the food had more appeal. WOW WOW WOW. AMAZING food and GREAT service. We came during a vacation trip to celebrate our daughter's 8th birthday. They brought a slice of cake (biggest slice of cake I've seen in my life) with a candle and our waitress (can't believe I forgot her name) asked if we wanted the whole restaurant to sing for her. We were so happy she asked beforehand because my daughter would have cried if everyone sang. Very thoughtful of her. Anyways in addition to that kind gesture EVERYTHING we ordered was amazing and reasonably priced -- my wiife and two daughters ate all of their food (never happens). I'm also not a fan of "fancy" restaurants, they make me feel out of place and uncomfortable. Rosine's ambiance is welcoming and everyone was very friendly. We saw Rosine's came highly recommended on Reddit, and we saw it had been on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Let's talk Hollandaise! Went here for breakfast with my girlfriends on a Sunday morning. I am NOT a breakfast person. My "go to" meal after a long night is a guacamole, bacon cheeseburger with a side of Hollandaise sauce (I know I'm weird, but it will cure what ails you). We were too early for the lunch menu, but our super friendly waitress said no problem to ordering the burger. Now to be honest, my expectations of Hollandaise sauce at a casual dining restaurant are fairly low given how many cold, flavorless, goopy Hollandaise sauces I've been served over the years. Wow! I was I blown away. I was served a generous bowl of sumptuous, warm, tangy, delicious perfectly executed Hollandaise along side my burger...quite possibly the best I've had at a restaurant. I could have eaten the whole bowl with a spoon... but I restrained myself and just dunked every bite of my perfectly cooked burger. The crispy, hot yummy fries got dunked too. While I was hyper focused on the Hollandaise, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the fresh and tasty guacamole...clearly homemade. My friends ordered the breakfast sandwich and an eggs Benedict with avocado and mushrooms. They both said their meals were wonderful. Although we did not try any of the "eye candy" cakes that capture your attention the minute you walk in the door, I did bring a chocolate chip cookie home to my husband who gave it rave reviews. Next time, and there will be a next time, I will definitely try the cake. The ambiance at the restaurant is open, simple and clean....nothing fancy. There are charming photos of the family over the years lining the hall on the way to the restroom. Quite heartwarming. It was refreshing to see a smiling, friendly and seemingly happy wait staff. From the outside, it looked busy and I wasn't sure we were going to get seated. Thankfully, we were quickly seated. The kid's menus were great. Portion sizes were a good size. All of our food came out one right after the other, and not cold. We all ordered something different. Haven't visited Rosine's in years! other than a rare occasion to pick up a slice of cake to go (always great). Drove here from Morgan Hill and met up with two of my coworkers. Wait time was about 10 mins during lunch. We shared the Buffalo wings (not pictured) chicken Parmesan and the hearty homemade minestrone soup. We had several waiters/waitresses. Everything on their menu looked delicious. I'm so glad we had shared everything. Everything was delicious. I've had their cakes before but didn't this time around. We were just too stuffed.
