Ambiance is great. Service was just ok. I feel like waiters are too lax. They treat you as if you were their friend... which is fine if the service matched the friendliness. The food has gone down since the last time I visited. I felt that the tortelloni was too thick, there were parts of it where it was too doughy and not fully cooked. It was also dry. Had a great dinner here early Saturday before seeing a show downtown, and seriously considered returning the next night because a couple things tasted that good! The highlights that had me wanting to come back ASAP were the agnolotti and the hanger steak. The steak was cooked to perfection, was pretty lean which is how I like it, and had the most delicious savory sauce and seasoning. It stands out as one of my favorite steaks of all time now. The agnolotti was filled with short rib that had practically been pureed it was so smooth, the flavor was perfect, and the pasta was done perfectly in a delightful savory buttery sauce. It tasted like heaven and makes me want to try every pasta on their menu. Brodo was weird to me, it was basically cubes of cheese in chicken broth. The cubes maybe have been processed with something like bread but basically it felt like I was eating cheese cubes, so I just drank the broth which was fine. Broccolini side was nice, still brightly green so not overdone, and it went well with the hanger steak. Dessert was good - bombolini featured a nice interplay of delicate flavors and textures including a wonderful warm filled doughnut. The tiramisu was large and the bottom layers were quite dense, but overall a nice tiramisu I thought. Overall, loved dinner here and would recommend to anyone looking for a nice dinner downtown. Staff was very professional and attentive throughout, from seating to clearing plates/utensils. Gave 4 instead of 5 stars based on the food, as the menu seems a bit hit-or-miss - if it weren't for the steak and agnolotti I wouldn't consider returning. read more

My husband and I absolutely love Rossoblu. We recently got married and had our wedding reception here and it was absolutely perfect. The bar area is beautiful and who doesn't love an open kitchen?! I cannot express how seamless the whole wedding planning process was with them and how many compliments we continue to receive about the food that was served. Some of our favorite dishes: Appetizers: Rosemary focaccia - this dish is so flavorful with all the dips. I could eat platefuls of this and I wish they would share the recipe with me ;). Seafood Fritto Misto - our absolute favorite appetizer! I love the pieces of fish and my husband always steals all the fried olives. This is a must get!! Grilled Pork Meatballs - delicious and perfect! Pasta: Olimpia's Tagliatelle - it's the beef and pork ragu that makes this dish divine. We served this with a rigatoni pasta for our reception and it was delicious! Sea Scallop Risotto - WOW, just a plate of amazing flavors. Pizza: Pepperoni, Funghi, Sausage Rabe - get them all. We served late night pizza at our reception and it was amazing! Grill: Bone-in New York Steak - so tender and flavorful Grilled Branzino - my favorite part is the potato salad paired with the fish Chicken Al Mattone - the BEST chicken Sides: Apennine Fries - as a lover of all carbs, these are the best fries. They're super crispy, but also light and fluffy on the inside. 10/10 every single time. Dessert: Tiramisu is a must try! Overall, a wonderful experience! The food is okay, but everything else here is simply awful. The noise level is atrocious. They blast music to the point where the server can't even hear your order. And while the pastas and pizzas are tasty, this was all but ruined by a horrible dessert, which was their version of an ice cream sundae with ice cream topped -- not with syrup -- but with vinegar. This may be the nastiest dessert I have ever had. The neighborhood is pretty bad but they do have a security guard walking around somewhere. I don't know what the big deal is about this place, the pasta dishes we ordered needed to be cut with a knife in order to share. The pizzas were nothing special. If you want to go to a similar but cheaper Italian experience, I think CPK is better than this joint. Did I mention their vinegar laced ice cream sundae? I had found this place in the michelin guide, it has a bib gourmand, and had seen great reviews. I am so glad that we ended up choosing this place! Rossoblu is one of those restaurants hidden near the Art district and flower districts. My daughter wanted to celebrate Father's Day with us early as she is traveling to New York tomorrow for the week. Since I love Italian food, she chose this restaurant based on Yelp recommendation. Although this was our first time here, we felt like we knew their foods. Most of the food on the menus were familiar to us. We ordered a few dishes to share to have a family style dinner so we all can sample the food. We just loved all the food we ordered. The seafood fritto Misto was excellent. Love the idea of mixing olive, lemons and calamari to create an interesting appetizer rather than just offering a boring fried calamari like all other restaurants. We also liked their tortellini pasta with meat sauce. Rossoblu is known for this dish. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the meat sauce was delicious. If you like breads, Rossoblu has the most delicious house bread. The breads were made in open fire rendering the breads tasting fantastic. This is a must order item. Hanger steak is another of our favorite dishes. Besides toasting the breads, the open fire oven is extensively use to grill steaks. Our hanger steak was grilled to medium and it was delectable. Farro cheesecake was our choice of dessert to finish our evening of early Father's Day celebration. This was a date night on a Sunday with the beau. First of all the ambiance is beautiful and the vibe is quaint and cozy. The location is nice as well. The food was BOMB, and our server JONTE was amazing too. Please give this man a raise, he was personable, funny, and knew the menu quite well! We had the beef and pork ragu, the Gramigna with house sausage, the calamari, and assorted bread appetizer, and a shoutout to the delicious anchovy butter (I love anchovies though!) We also got some of the appenine fries which were crispy and had a nice salt and vinegar vibe to them. We also enjoyed the house gelato. We did a full buyout of Rossoblu to host the welcome dinner for our wedding. The events team did a great job and we were very pleased with how everything went. The food and drinks were very good - we got lots of compliments from our guests. The menu options were very customizable and they were helpful when working with any dietary restrictions as well. We used the outdoor area for cocktails and the indoor area for dinner and both were just lovely. We've also had regular dinners here multiple times and have always had great experiences. We came here on a Wednesday night. We made reservations but it wasn't very busy. The interior is pretty neat and the kitchen is kind of open which is cool. It has an industrial chic vibe and was pretty cozy. Our server was very attentive, almost too much so, but appreciative for his help. The eggplant appetizer was lacking all around as it just seemed like a piece of cooked eggplant with a dollop of sauce and a little chunk of parmesan. Meh. Wouldn't get again. Rossoblu was on our list for a while and while we loved the warmed outdoor patio, the food had some ups and downs. Funny enough, the bread basket was outstanding and the tastiest dish of our meal - beautiful crispy crust and a delightfully spongy soft interior with several accompaniments. The Valbruna's eggplant possessed pleasant flavor and a unique chilled preparation. Not our favorite eggplant, but worth a try. Among the pastas, the Olimpia's tagliatelle was nice al dente...just otherwise mild and somewhat boring in its flavors from the beef and pork ragu. Thankfully, the maltagliati's earthy mushroom flavors were far tastier. For libations, the cocktail menu was unique and fun to read through...just pass on the Mr. Q. The duck fat-washed Japanese whiskey had an offputting greasiness evident in every sip and the combination of five-spice cocchi and Sichuan bitters was seriously unpleasant. I literally could not finish it. Cool to have tried once, but my wife and I have been to far better Italian spots in LA. We'd happily take some of that bread to go though ;) read more

A gorgeous Italian restaurant, located literally in the middle of nowhere. I don't want to make some lame af pun here and say Rosso-blu my pants off, but alas, some overdone dad jokes are meant to see the light when opportunity presents itself. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday as a surprise, and I left the restaurant feeling fat and happy. The ambience is...how should I say...*LA Fancy*. Meaning you're gonna find it dressier than a typical restaurant, where people are wearing cocktail-ish attire paired with old-school chucks. My kind of party. We ordered: BUTTERNUT SQUASH RISOTTO (5/5): This was the whole reason we came here!!! Two of my favorite things in one dish. I couldn't NOT order it. The risotto was softer and saucier than what I was used to, but the flavors melted into the perfect balance of autumn and cream. The pumpkin seeds sprinkled at the top were the perfect garnish; each mushy bite was complemented with a quick crunch. I absolutely adored this dish and inhaled it like cocaine. MALTAGLIATI (5/5): I had to google what this meant. This was a pasta dish that reminded me of thicker, more sheet-like ribbons of pappardelle. It was served with seasonal mushrooms, dandelion greens, and sage. Ohmygodddd, the sheets were cooked perfectly - that oh so coveted AL DENTE texture that pasta has when its done just right. *chefs kiss* It was so flavorful without being heavily sauced or overly rich. Highly recommend! DUCK FAT ROASTED TURNIPS (4/5): If you like turnips, you'll LOVE this dish. It was served with some pesto-like pistachio puree that gave it such a unique fragrance. The cioppolini were sweet and flavorful as well. DESSERTS------- NOCINO BRUTTI MA BIONI (5/5): This was a delightful surprise. We had no idea what it was prior to ordering, but we were not disappointed. This dessert is essentially an Italian walnut meringue served with caramel whipped cream and rosemary. The cookie was like a a cloud that melted in your mouth, but had a crunch from the walnuts. It was unlike any thing I've eaten before! Highly recommend. CHOCOLATE SPUMONI (4/5): This essentially tasted like an amalgamation of chocolate ice cream and tiramisu, with glazed butternut squash as garnish. I thought the addition of butternut squash was very interesting, especially in a dessert! It worked very well because it was sweetened and tasted like nature's candy on the side. I was so full. Valbruna's eggplant, tomato sugo, basil, shaved Parmigiano Reggiano ($14.00): the sliced eggplant was so fresh and clean tasting. I usually like my eggplant soaked in sauce, but the simplicity of the dish brings out its natural flavor. Maltagliati, pioppini mushrooms, saba, dandelion greens, Parmigiano Reggiano ($25.00): perfectly al dente pasta, combined with the earthiness of pioppini & coated in delicious sauce. Recommended by our waiter, this dish was favorite dish of the night. Dry-aged striped bass, crostone, acqua pazza ($35.00): I hesitated at first because I could smell the fishiness, but it's actually delicious and not fishy. The waiter was fast and knowledgeable. This is in the heart of skid row, ok maybe not the heart, but this street is sketchy AF. Tent city. The haves and have nots is verrrryyyyy evident here in particular. People rolling up in Teslas, Audi's, BMW's wearing designer threads and less than 100' away on either side are some of the most intense, the worst living conditions, no water source for the homeless, no restrooms, yes just imagine how rough that must be and it's literally so close to the restaurant. It's intense, you definitely do not want to be cute and try to walk or bike here, just take my word and order that Uber or Lyft / drive yourself. I'm impressed with the businesses that take chances and open up shop in dtla.. it's a very sad situation with all the houseless people who truly need help. It's only getting worse. What's even more impressive is that there aren't security guards in this cute little shopping center block that Rossoblu is located in... I guess the businesses have good insurance? Idk it's all just so disturbing to me and hard for me to grasp how you can have stores that probably sell $400 t shirts near such a crisis. Los Angeles has to step it up and get these people help. Our server was incredible. The whole staff was very tentative and gracious, formal. I loved the ambiance, felt very lofty but offered a lot of privacy. We opted to sit outside and there were plenty of heaters we were able to wear our dresses without coats. The food was lovely. I recommend frito misto, the whole fish (omg so yummy and grilled to perfection, photos don't do it justice), and I enjoyed the pastas particularly the one with the sautéed mushrooms. The food is good, the service is nice, the setting is cool, the neighborhood is hip. So why just 2-stars? The noise level is unimaginably LOUD. When they don't blast music, it is kind of manageable, noisy but not terrible. Unfortunately, most of the time the music is set to such a high decibel level, you have to SCREAM to make yourself heard at your table -- and everyone else in the restaurant is SCREAMING too! On the food side, the hanger steak is very good, the focaccia is fresh, the tagliatelle is solid, the tortellini is good, the pizzas are meh. But we were in such a fitful hurry to tear out of this painful noise machine, we just paid the check as quickly as we could and RAN OUT of the place, holding our ears. So you can go for the food, but there's better Italian in the city, and since you have to steel yourself for a PULSATING club-like atmosphere, which leads to a shaky stomach at the end, make sure that's okay with you and your crew, and if so, then this is your kinda place. For us, it was not. The final kicker to this meal was that one of our party was celebrating a birthday and the server provided her with a free sundae, which sounds nice, until she took a spoonful and discovered the chocolate syrup was actually balsamic vinegar, which tasted NASTY and was by no means a treat -- it was actually a pretty rotten turn of events, but right in line with how an unpleasant evening should end. This is also the last time I listen to an LA Times bogus review, extolling another Top 100 spot, that has slightly above-average food, problematic atmosphere, horrible desserts, and really, just doesn't deserve any notoriety at all. read more

Upon arriving you'll see two restaurants, the one on the left is Dama, so go right for Rossoblu. Decor: Nice spot for a date or special occasions. I really liked the mural on the wall Food: 1) Fritto misto - good, but nothing special 2) Lobster Risotto - Not worth $40. Lobster was tough and there were inedible pieces. It seemed like they rushed the preparation and cooking of the lobster. The risotto was decent, but got salty. 3) Apennine Fries - Fantastic! I loved the sage, rosemary, and balsamic. Never had balsamic with fries and it actually tasted amazing. 4) Nonna's tagliatelle bolognese al ragu - it was decent to share, but it was also prettty salty. Service: Service was excellent. They constantly came by to refill our drinks, spaced out the dishes perfectly, and gave us new dishes after every course. I found out about this place after dining at DAMA. The outdoor dining was cute so we came here for my birthday, but overall food was just alright. We ordered the tortelloni, salami honey pizza, braised meatballs, Ragu bolognese, and one other dish that I forgot. None of the food wow'ed me, but it wasn't bad either. We expected better since their menu is quite limited, but we personally had better at other places. Although, they do have orange wine that is worth a try. It was good! Considered to be one of Los Angeles' quintessential Restaurants since 2017 Rossoblu has managed to succeed despite a humble backstory, Chef Steve Samson's childhood summers in Bologna combining with his love of Southern California in an industrial Dining Room with service that is casual yet thoroughly charming. Currently with a covered outdoor patio during mask mandates, vaccine-cards checked before being offered a table between large murals and a golden bar, Rossoblu immediately feels high end despite modest pricing that extends from Wine to Food including everything from handmade Pasta to Samson's "Superfine Pizza." An homage of sorts to Emilia-Romagna, the menu well-edited and prone to change, decisions do not come easy in terms of how to order, though Valbruna's Eggplant proves worthy of its signature status as gently cooked slices dance amidst what might otherwise be a very competent Caprese. Lower in terms of volume than other LA eateries though music turns up as sun goes down, the Rossoblu Bread Basket is adequate albeit a bit pricey with Anchovy Butter outpacing the other two Condiments and slices better saved for scarpetta of Sauces such as Bechamel brightened by Citrus atop Baked Fazzoetti. Dedicating a section of the menu "en Brodo," mixed Pork inside Tortellini better than most in Italy thanks to Broth that is clean and clear, Pizza here eats far better than from the Superfine window as crust forms a robust cornicione around bright Sauce, mixed Onions, Smoked Mozz, Mushrooms and Garlic. A mix of local and imported ingredients, "Olimpia's Tagliatelle" standing out thanks to al dente ribbons and just enough Bolognese made from whole animals butchered downstairs plus "dry-aged Beef Fat," be sure not to overlook thicker Maltagliati as a canvas to Pioppini Mushrooms, Saba and bitter Greens. Keeping Dessert simple, no fancy plating for the #gram, Rossoblu's Apple Crostata falls short of others as a result of Apples too firm and room-temperature service while Olive Oil Cake with a sugared top is toothsome yet delicate and good on its own, but better dragged through creamy Ricotta. read more
