After another summer there is still a large dead spot which I will need to re-sod this Spring. It will cost me about $100 in sod, but finally my lawn will be completed. Beware of the Rototiller Guy, cause the only thing he does is quote low prices and shoot videos of the work his Hispanic staff does. Mike showed his true colors in my call to set up a job I had created a bid for the day before! Since I had already had the old grass in my back yard removed with a pick ax, I asked if the bid price would be a little less (in his bid, he quoted $475 for that and tilling). Instead of saying, "Sure, we can discuss that" as a professional would do, Mike decided he could talk to me as if I were a child who didn't understand what I was asking. It was odd. He rudely asked if I had pick axed to 6-8 inches deep insinuating that I hadn't and therefore it was rude of me to ask for a discount. I said I would check when I could (I did afterward, and most of the 600 square feet WAS 6-8 inches). All I was asking was if what had already been done could be considered or if it would be the same price even though I had done a big part of the prep. He kept saying I was arguing with him (I only asked this twice because he didn't answer the first time). He was the only one arguing and raising his voice. I wish I had a recording on the call to post somewhere! He would only say he understood what I was saying, but I obviously didn't understand him. Again odd, because I clearly understood and just wanted an answer to a logical question. It was clear to me he just wanted to be combative and not really answer the logical question. After condescendingly asking me what I thought his profit should be, he went on a long rant about how busy he was, how he didn't need any new jobs, and how much I was in the wrong. Great customer service there, Mike! It's shocking how inappropriately he was in this call. I wouldn't hire him if he were the only sod contractor in LA. Since then, I called three other contractors and had clear, informative conversations with them, all of whom said the the price would obviously be less if I had already cleared the old lawn and they didn't have all the pick ax work to do. I would certainly tell anyone considering this company to run away quickly and find decent, pleasant companies to hire. read more

I needed sprinkler valves replaced and was able to get it scheduled in one day and on a weekend as well. The work was excellent and a loud noise when the sprinklers turned off was resolved as well as receiving info on how to fix a noise in my toilet that occurred when the sprinklers were on. After a nightmare year of dealing with a landscape architect, Mike was practically a miracle find. My gardener broke a few of my sprinkler heads. I was mid repair when I saw that I wasn't able to complete the job. I called Rototiller to get a quote for the repair. I spoke with a gentlemen named Mike who was nice enough to explain what tool I needed to complete the work I had already started as it was a simple fix and to avoid spending extra money on a service call. He even went as far as texting me the exact tools and parts I need to buy from Home Depot! Excellent customer service and I will be using this company for my future lawn care needs. It's been two scorching summers in the Valley since Mike installed our sprinkler system and new sod in our half shaded and half-cooking in the summer sun backyard. The lawn thins out in the shaded areas and turns brown sometimes in the sunny areas.. especially where my dog urinates, but overall it's been pretty resilient. I've over-seeded in the fall and it came back pretty lush in the spring. I do all the yard care myself post-installation, so it probably would look even better if I had a dedicated lawn-care expert maintaining it. But I'm very pleased with the job Mike and his guys did, and love having a cool relaxing backyard for my daughter and family to enjoy. read more

I've owned two homes and both of them have had completely cemented backyards which really doesn't work well for me since I have 3 small children. With a lot of the headache I had last time working with 3 different vendors to break out the concrete, put in a sprinkler system, and lay sod, I decided to simplify and see if I could at least combine 2 of the 3 tasks with one vendor. Impressed with the reviews I saw on RotoTillerGuy, I started the process of doing the online bid. It was easy to use and explained everything, but since my project wasn't exactly the standard remove grass, put new grass in type job, I knew it wasn't exactly going to cost what was listed. Mike contacted me and we went back and forth regarding the project. I had contacted other vendors but felt Mike was the best option based on quality of products used (No one else mixed compost into the soil which I really liked based on a soil study I read a couple of years ago -don't ask, I'm truly that lame- and the quality of the sod he acquires lined up when I researched the company) and Mike offered to break away and remove the concrete as well. Just to note, this is not an area of expertise for him and his crew as it did take longer than the previous vendor I used for my last yard so the cost was greater, but they did do an excellent job of removing the concrete. The tilling, sprinkler work, and laying of sod was well executed and it's amazing how different our backyard feels with a nice green lawn. Mike was communicative throughout the whole experience letting me know with picture updates (when I was at work) the progress of his team. I really valued that. The guys on his team were also really easy to talk to, had great attitudes, and worked hard. The kids are ecstatic and anxious to play on the new lawn and in a couple of days, we'll let them have at it! We'll be having a great summer of outdoor activities. DO NOT USE THIS GUY. MIke is rude, obnoxious and a liar. He broke my sprinklers and caused a huge leak and kept telling me he would come by when he "finished a huge job". A month later I called to ask where he was since my water bill at this point was massive, he yelled at me on the phone and told me that he was only coming over to "prove to me that it wasn't his fault" I paid him over $3,000 for what was supposed to be a $400.00 rototiller job. He is a condescending, horrible man with an attitude and downright cruelty, he yelled at me twice for asking simple questions. His work was shoddy and now I have much worse issues. I strongly urge you to not waste your time and money and I am not a person who writes bad reviews, this just put me over the top. read more

One year later and I have received the worst customer service from this client. I called him on the 12th of December and gave him the info and sent an email following up. He didn't respond to the email and then when I followed up 3 weeks after he gave me a hard time for not providing information which was provided on the first call. Now when Mike said that his guys were going to dig up and break up the whole yard before they tilled it, imagine my surprise that the Palm Tree Root Ball in the yard.. not even an inch below the surface was still there! About 3 feet in diameter and the emanating roots that spread out in about a 15 to 20 foot fan from the root ball and all of the roots running along the outside walls of the house were barely 4 inches below the surface. How on Earth could a human with a shovel or pick axe NOT encounter any of this? My little Mantis tiller hit roots throughout the yard only inches beneath the surface, how could their commercial machine not encounter these? So, I have a small portion of the yard the way I want but the other 70% of it will have to be worked on by a stump remover and more strength than I have left. So when they "finished" the job "early"... I think his guys just sorta didn't feel like working that hard and I got a "discount" of not having to pay them for their time... but now I need to pay someone for their time and machinery to finish the job. read more

I'm so excited to have a beautiful lawn in the backyard now, thanks to Mike and his team. I decided to go with Mike after checking out his website and reviews because I liked how upfront he was with what his work entails and how much he'd charge for the job. That being said, you never know how people will be in person. I couldn't be more pleased with the job they did. They showed up right on time, ready to go. They were thorough, professional, and courteous. I really do believe Mike is sincere when he says he works on clients' yards the same way he'd work on his own. The work is solid, and the final product is really beautiful. Could I have put in my own sod? I don't know, maybe. But I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be anywhere as well done as this. There are somethings I'm willing to risk as a DIYer, but sometimes it's worth it to hire professionals. In my opinion, hiring Mike was the right move. read more

Two didn't reply, one was extremely high, my Gardner's brother (in the business) was a little lower the the RototillerGuy without any guarantees. In summary, work carried out a couple weeks ago was fine, but pricing was deceptive. Described work to be done (repair a single ruptured 3/4" PVC pipe and install a copper ball valve to the house main water line), and worker arrived with no supplies. Had to run to store later (and billed this 1 hr-plus as "labor") and the renewed estimate was nearly twice the original estimate ($750). I was double billed for the same part, and charged for additional labor (including the job finishing time being an hour past the actual time!). I pointed this out to Mike on the phone, and he rather smugly commented, "OK, I'll take it off, anything else?". He charges by the hour, and not by the job or for the work to be done - thus, no incentive to work quickly, since it's on your dollar. Shop around, because I way overpaid (over $1.3k) for the small job that was carried out. read more

This guy gets no stars! But yelp makes you put one. He is a scam artist. He did a 1000 sq foot sod job. Gave a quote to lay sod that we purchased. We had working sprinklers . He said we could replace the heads for 15 bucks each. I agreed . He then tour up everything and said we needed a whole new system. I own 9 properties. Unfortunately this is not my first experience with scam artists. He also refuses to provide a valid workers comp policy. Ask to see it, and call to make sure it is valid . Otherwise if one of his guys gets hurt on your property you will be sued! Beware!! His response is a total lie. Please read all bad reviews first. They are all very similar. read more

I needed a trench dug in our backyard for solar conduit installation and Mike's crew did an amazing job. The price was reasonable and the guys were nice and incredibly professional. I was a little nervous at first because there was a gas line and a water line where the trench had to be dug in addition to our sprinkler system. My husband found Mike on yelp to fix an irrigation system, install a new one for the front yard, rotortill yard, and to lay compost. (Mike kept pushing how great his reviews were and that is how he advertises his buisness. So, I know Mike will make some excuse like previous posters) After Mike arrived, my husband decided to have his crew cut down several trees as well. They arrived on time everyday. One day we paid an entire day of 6 workers and I saw them in the morning for two hours. The rest of the day, I saw one guy holding a shovel and not doing anything. Mike insisted that everyone was there all day, but I was home all day. Irrigation backyard- they fixed all the sprinklers, but the sprinklers were spraying on our sidewalk, patio, and into the neighbors yard. The next day, I noticed that two were not spraying but creating a puddle underneath the dirt. Mike did send someone the next day in the rain to fix. The guy did not know how to rotate heads to stop spraying out of bounds. Irrigation front yard- Two were leaking the next day and not turning on on one side of house. This was fixed next day. However, those were never connected to a timer and we were to manually turn them on with the valve. He said he was unable to reach wires to the timer in the backyard. (We get soaking wet, everytime to turn on and off because pressure is so hard and sprays everywhere on porch.) Irrigation other front yard- These were installed and work well. Trees- did an ok job at cutting down trees, except damaged pergola and broke a window and he did not offer to pay for the damages. Rototill- They did rototill the backyard, however my dirt is clay. An experienced person would have put compost down then rototill to improve soil. However, rototill was done and compost was dumped on top. My husband and I manually amended the compost and clay boulders that were created to plant our new landscape. Also, from where they dumped the compost, it clogged my drainage system in the yard, so I had to spend an entire day pulling out compost in three vents. A week after everything was completed. I have had to fix numerous sprinker heads because the pvc pipes under the soil were never screwed in tightly. I will never use him again, and I will check to see if he has this deleted because I am sure he pays a company to remove negative reviews. read more

So I don't really know where to start... It have been a nightmare trying to order/buy sod to complete my backyard project to the point I was going to pay someone to finish it. I called Mike and explained to him where my project was at. Instead of even trying to convince me to let him finish the project for me, he made a conference call to his supplier and got me the sod in needed delivered to my house at a great price. I called Mike he came out the same day he spent 3 hours and charged me for only one hour and figured it out. He is so honest I don't know how he makes any money. Digging up old sod isn't easy. How do I know this, you ask? Because my husband and I thought we could dig up our sod and replace it with a vegetable garden in the backyard and drought-tolerant landscaping in the front yard. A year later, all we had were two or three sorry patches dug up in the backyard and one patch dug up in the front yard, making our house look like Steve Carrell's chest in the 40 Year Old Virgin. So what did I do and wish I'd done sooner? Call Mike the RotoTillerGuy! I filled out the online estimate form so I knew what I should budget for the job and Mike was at my house with a crew the following week. He was completely up front about the price of everything and was prompt, knowledgeable and efficient. His professionalism and helpfulness made me confident to also have him install new sprinkler systems and drip lines. I'm so pleased I found his listing on Yelp, and wish other home contractors would take customer service as seriously as Mike does. His crew is also polite, efficient and extremely hardworking. Editing this review after 2.5 weeks. I initially gave 5 stars but since then my experience has been bad. I had asked Mike to install 800 square feet of sod, a new sprinkler system, in addition to removing over 1200 square feet of grass in another part of the front yard. I had to ask him to come back and redo the front where he removed turf the next day since he had told me he would remove 6 to 8 inches of dirt and turf but only scraped the grass off by hand and rototilled the dirt leaving big chunks of grass there. I had told him I was doing dg there but suffice it to say, Mike was a man of his word and came back and fixed it the next day. He also told me that I had underestimated the square footage of sod and owed him 50 to 80 bucks (even though there was at least that much sod leftover) but if I promised to leave a review he would forget about it. I agreed and was really happy since the sod looked great and after he redid the front I was happy. Fast forward 6 days. I wake up at 5am to hear gushing water. Go outside and the sprinkler valve he installed is gushing water. I text Mike and when there is light I send him pictures and video. He tells me it wasn't like this when he installed it. I said yes, but obviously something happened. He agrees to come back and fix it. 12 days after promising to fix it he finally comes back and tells me someone else broke the pipe and he won't fix it unless I pay him an additional 225 dollars. I was upset, explained that was impossible and showed him video and pictures of the leak. He claimed that a pipe was removed causing the PVC pipe to break. Long story short, I told him I wouldn't pay him an additional 225 bucks when I already paid him 80 bucks for a 20 dollar home Depot valve plus another 400 to install the system. Just be warned, his sod work is good, but if something goes wrong, you'll be lucky if he fixes it read more

Wow! Awesome service, pricing, ease of his website and pricing up front, and QUICK response! Called to have several tree stumps removed in order to proceed with re-landscaping the front of the house, Mike said he could be there the next day, a Sunday holiday. He was early and they began the work. After more discussion of our plans and a reasonable price, They were able to pull all the old greenery out and left me with a blank slate. (Ivy, Birds of Paradise, Agopanthas... all large and old and not cared for before we moved into the house). As I manage the projects and know what I want to design with most plants in my head, I agree with another poster, and Mike would as well, that his services are best used for someone with a design plan already. I will use him to amend the soil, then add to the existing sprinkler system, and finally to install the plants that I purchase and have delivered. I've interviewed and paid hourly rates to landscape designers for estimates and them selling me their services without any results or firm pricing. In response to Mike's comment below my review: Mike initially installed Rain Bird sprinkler heads, but because they were sticking up out of the ground 2-3 inches (to the point I couldn't open my fence door all the way), I told him they needed to be level with the ground. He told me that Rain Bird carried a sprinkler head with a shorter stem, so I assumed he was going to replace them with those. On Friday when Mike returned to finish the job, he replaced all the Rain Bird heads with Orbit heads and made that level with the ground. I specifically told him to fix the sprinkler at the top of my hill to stop watering my front walkway, but he said due to the water pressure this is as good as it gets and there is nothing he can do to change it. If Mike truly believed in what he states in his Craig's List advertisement, which I quote, "Founded with a desire to exceed our client's expectations, and build upon a good reputation rather than rest on a poor one." Then he would come back and fix the sprinkler system he replaced in my front yard. But if he chooses to be unprofessional, lack integrity and NOT be a man of his word, then he would continue to try justifying his mistakes by defending his actions and commenting on negative reviews by his clients. read more
