The restaurant was very quick with responding and accommodated every single request we had. They were extremely patient and kind throughout the whole process. I wasn't sure how the food would be but it was AMAZING! So fresh, and SO MUCH! Not to mention it was only $35 per person. And the drinks were amazing. You have to get the espresso martinis! They used to be known for a burger...and judging from current reviews, it looks as though they still are. This was one of the first 'high-end burgers' I remember paying double digits for. I learned to appreciate gruyere cheese because of Rouge, and even though I don't like onions, I didn't ask to have them removed since I wanted to maintain some of the carmelized onion flavor as I scraped them off myself. Weird, I know. The interior was constantly described as being within a jewel box, and I relate that more so due to the size; for this is not a large place by any means. A step or two took you to a tiny lounge area that sat semi-above as you could look out onto the round (or was it oval?) center bar, in addition to the coveted patio seating that looked out onto Rittenhouse Square. Now, I notice the bar takes up the back part of the restaurant yet still maintains its sophistication. A hop away was another Neil Stein place called Bleu, where they too had a burger with the obvious namesake cheese, but Rouge beat them by far. I wondered what Stein's whereabouts were now that I've been away from this city for so long and saw the news that he had passed back in 2018. Pleased to see Rouge still lives on, now run by one of his daughters. In a nutshell, Rouge was a trendy place I aspired to eat at once I established myself. Well, I didn't quite make that happen but I still was able to treat/make an excuse every now and then to enjoy their food. The atmosphere then felt exclusive, where the big deal was that one could be seated next to a local celebrity in the form of a famous plastic surgeon's wife (now ex-wife) and her rather boisterous child. Sometimes, that's Philadelphia fame for you! If you're in the area and enjoy burgers, give this one a shot, I definitely will when I'm back in town. *I used to work at GapKids on 17th/Walnut (now long gone) and I think I saved some of my paycheck to come eat lunch here one day. This was 2nd time returning but the 1st time where I actually went inside after doing outdoor dining. I didn't realize how small and intimate it was but it's a cute date place. I was here for Brunch on a Saturday. Rogue offers great ambiance in a prime location of Rittenhouse Square. Unfortunately, ambiance and location are the top selling points for Rogue. I found the food average and overpriced. I ordered the Veggie omelette, which is more of a mushroom omelette, since it did not contain any other veggies. It was very salty and for $16 it would be nice if they would throw in some toast or a small side salad. But, no, all you get is an omelette on a large plate. My husband ordered the Rogue Burger, because Rogue is said to have one of the best burgers in town. And, for $20 bucks it better be a pretty good burger. He thought it was good. The coffee they serve is good and our service was friendly. Although, it did take a while for our order to come out. A local friend of ours choose this place because it was convenienly located between our hotel and her home, right across from a beautiful park. The restaurant is adorable and I wish we had the opportunity to sit outside and enjoy the view but unfortunately there was a torrential downpour. Luckily the hotel gave us an umbrella and Rouge had an umbrella holder ready as we walked in. Brunch was impeccable and service was phenomenal. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and not shy to give her opinion. We really appreciated her frienliness and advice. I was determined to have a light salad and a few cocktails but once they told me that Oprah said Rouge had one of the 20 burgers you must try before you die....well I always listen to Oprah and she never disappoints. Although it was nice that there didn't seem to be a wait when we arrived and the ambiance was quiet and relaxed, the service was still somewhat slow. We ordered the french toast and a ham and brie sandwich; both dishes were good, but neither were spectacular of any sort. There weren't any issues with the food and the taste was fine, but the brunch experience offered with these dishes was not memorable enough to want to return. I did see images of the pretty flowers for outdoor seating so I think that may definitely be a compelling point for some! Had to check out the new and improved Rouge. I was aways a fan of this place for their burger and decor. I started with a salad which was one of the best salads i ever had!!! as regular patrons of rouge restaurant in rittenhouse square, i'm sorry to report it has lost much of its luster. the ambience and location are still top-notch, however great disappointment in the meals and drinks we were served on this night. example: the famous rouge burger is no longer a gourmet choice. what i received was at $27.00 was typical looking, typical tasting as you would expect at any franchise restaurant. the fries or pomme frites as they are mentioned on the menu, were also typical franchise restaurant fare. this same but. better tasting combination is $9.95 at ruby tuesday and includes the salad bar. the ceasar salads were drowned in dressing with less than crisp lettuce. we added shrimp to the $22.00 dish. the shrimp were chewy,but worse, we're not grilled or flavored at $17.00 added. at $39.00 without any offering bread or rolls, this was outrageous. finally, the cocktails were meh for $17.00 each. i would say that any restaurant could have a bad night, but this was beyond acceptable. read more

Cool spot to stop by in the city! Calamari and Brussel sprouts were amazing and by far a favorite from other local eats I tried. Stopped by over the weekend for brunch and again on Monday night. I grabbed a stool and sat at the bar. All 3 bartenders that I saw: Kat, Paige and Jules were attentive while also being quick with a drink and fun conversation. Location has a cool vibe right across the street from Rittenhouse Square. A patron sitting close by asked Kat what her specialty drink was and she made a espresso martini. It was made fast! At no time did I feel rushed to leave even after having brunch over the weekend or a burger on Monday night. Every worker I saw was hustling by clearing tables, serving drinks or taking orders. It's a cute little spot! I admired the outdoor seating setup they do usually all decorated for the season/holiday, but when I went, I sat inside which was equally charming. We were there for some drinks - I got the hibiscus margarita, and another hibiscus margarita, and another.. well I wanted to try another drink but it was so good I couldn't switch! (It happens!) There were multiple waitresses and they were very attentive and checked on our table multiple times. We opted for a bottle instead of individual drinks which also worked out well. We had appetizers (cheese, shrimp, and salad), main menu (chicken, pasta, burgers) chefs dessert (chocolate cake). I LOVE the outdoor space, it's perfect especially on a nice evening. I haven't been to Rouge in over a decade but an old friend from out of town asked me to have dinner there. I knew it as a " see and be seen" spot in Rittenhouse square with a great burger. I took a swivel stool at the bar (bad move) and waited for my friend. One blond bartender ignored me-the other walked past me a few times chatted up her co-worker then greeted me and gave me a drink menu. I put my menu down ready to order and nothing. Neither came back over for an uncomfortable moment. (They were Not busy with patrons). The one blond bartender was coughing a lot, I wasn't sure if I should even stay. Summer colds are terrible and I didn't wanna catch one from an inattentive bartender. That same coughing bartender that never even said hello to me, greeted two men next to me as soon as they hit the stools with: "hey guys what ya drinkin?" Once the other bartender came back I ordered a hibiscus margarita, it was fine. I cashed out and joined my friend at a high top. Our server was attentive. The Caesar was great, burger good, and Tuna tartare tacos= bad...they tasted very Un-fresh, I had only one bite. We stopped at Rouge based on a recommendation of a friend. We were promptly greeted by the wait staff and given the "the soft rules" which means order a meal, and don't stay more than 2 hours. For about as long as I can remember, the burger from Rouge has been widely viewed as one of Philly's finest. The juicy 8 ounce patty, creamy gruyère cheese, sweet caramelized onions, and toasty bun are just some of the reasons this carnivorous treat has garnered acclaim. I've had this great burger many times and to be quite honest, other than the average fries, I can't think of any reason someone would dislike it. The crowd on the other hand is an entirely different matter. Here's the thing - the vast majority of people you'll find at this highly popular and tiny Rittenhouse Square facing bar aren't there for the food or even the drinks. They're there to see and be seen. Which means that regardless of when you go or where you sit, you will be gawked at, you will be judged, and you will be elbow to elbow with people who are dressed to impress and looking to mingle. Let me be clear, I'm not knocking Rouge or its patrons. I'm just letting you know what to expect from both the food and atmosphere. Bottom line: A wonderful burger that should please even the toughest critic, but if you're not into the "see and be seen" crowd, you might not enjoy the experience. I'd previously been for a night cap and figured I'd stop by to check out their food. We ordered the chicken and fish sandwich with an order of fries. They were both pretty horrible. There is other stuff on the menu, but given our experience with the simple sandwiches I wouldn't recommend trying it. In short, go for the drinks/ambiance and avoid the food. read more

I want to preface this review with the fact that I've long considered the "rouge burger" the gold standard for fancy restaurant burgers. For years, it was so epic that I would even go so far as to split it with a friend, as to not be in a full food coma for the remainder of the day. Unfortunately , this review is not a story of a classic "rouge burger," experience. After waiting about 30 minutes, i recurved the new "rouge burger," it's about half the size of the original, different patty mix, and gruyere cheese lacking the historic majestic quality. The first attempt at medium rare was a swing and miss, coming out well done, (no more bibb lettuce or tomato as well), and the food runner was quick to sense my displeasure and a second attempt was made. After about 45 minutes (let us not forget the first burger came out in 30 minutes) another burger was presented, with a clearly picked apart brioche roll this time (very stale) , and the burger was charred for that second attempt. The responsive floor manager did everything in his power to try and rectify the situation, including comping me for a glass of wine and my ultimate shift over to a pre prepared tuna tartare that was not dressed at all and unfortunately lacked any flavor profile beyond the four spots of wasabi that surrounded the tartar. The wine was good and the experience didn't damper my holiday spirit, but to echo the sentiments of others on this platform, this establishment is not hitting on the level it once did. read more

As I was walking, I came upon this establishment. It caught my eye because of the outdoor seating. It had the usual Philly vibe, with the veranda, tastefully decorated with artificial hanging vines. The staff was welcoming and I was seated in an Adirondack chair, with a table awkwardly placed and difficult to reach once my drink and food arrived. I ordered shrimp cocktail, though I kept eying the delicious looking, gigantic hamburger another patron was eating. I simply did not want to end up with it in my lap. And the man was holding his food because of the table situation. Anyway I just dealt with it and got something easier to handle. It did not disappoint.
