Do not wear a short skirt to this bar. That being said, this is the BEST DIVE BAR EVER. My buddies who live adjacent to it swore by it, and I was initially very skeptical because the type of person who hangs out here is the same type of person you hope doesn't sit next to you on a bus. But with a few cheap, well-poured drinks, a pool table and a very respectable jukebox, these people turn into your best friends. I used to go here all the time with my friends and we always had a blast and were never mugged or challenged to a fight or molested by anyone. They've got $6 pitchers of PBR and the skinny, used-up looking woman who's always there will kick your ass at billiards. Also, if some guy comes by and offers you a late night tamale, GET A BUNCH. My friends all hail the Tamale Guy and will stock up on his wears in case they miss him next time. A buck a tamale? Okay by me! So much fun. I hear the food is good, but this is strictly a bar review. Round Corner is everything I look for in a dive bar: cheap, strong drinks, friendly and slightly seedy inside. They have your standard mixed drinks for about $3, which were pretty strong, but not quite on Benny's level (the gold standard of dive bar drinks!). There's about 10 bar seats, and a few tables scattered inside. To be honest, the interior is a little weird; two pool tables, a few tiny booths and some normal tables on the other end. Supposedly this is THE spot to come and test your pool skills, as everybody walking in to play the night I went was bringing their own pool cue in. I'd like to go back and try the food, but for now it's at least on my radar for weekend drinking. read more

This place is consistently cool. When my friend told me he wanted to go a dive bar where he wouldn't be seen by anyone he knows, where drinks are cheap, and parking is easy, I had to think really hard about it. Sacramento is not that big, and options are limited with such stringent requirements. After thinking about for a long time, the Round Corner was the perfect place. I always somehow managed to get a free drink here, and everyone who frequents the place are regulars, live close, and or don't really care what you look like or who you are. Round Corner is awesome for beer and card playing. Yay! And they used to have a lengthy menu of several kinds of tacos, plus other yummy bar food for everyone from carnivores to vegans. Yay! But then their kitchen closed. Boo! But then it reopened. Cautious yay! We went there tonight. There was a limited menu, at least from what listed on the wall, with nothing clearly vegetarian. Boo! But the new chef Drian was wonderfully accommodating and made me black bean tacos - plus a sample of his auntie's house made vegetarian lumpia (Filipino egg rolls) - super yummy! Not as much variety as the old tacos menu, but definitely good, and totally worth it for dinner for two for around $10. The verdict: Yay for having one of our favorite spots back! read more

I am irked that most of these reviews don't mention anything about the food. This place has some great burgers! ALL the beer is cheep. I think the beer goes up to a whopping $3 after 7 or so ( and thats for the premium shit). I usually come in right after work and catch Rosa right before she leaves. I just started coming in a month ago and she knows I like my Sierra. When I go I see the same people, I have to go a little more often and much longer to be considered a "regular". There are two pool tables and the people who play on them play for fun but at the same time are serious , I only say that because so many of them bring their own sticks. This is a straight dive bar but I like it. Its walking distance from my house so thats a plus, especially after having so many cheap/good drinks! They also serve food and its pretty good. Maybe its just good because im drunk when I eat it but oh well. What plays a big factor in me coming here, is the people. I never know who im going to meet. I've met some random folks here but they turned out to be ok. I cant remember his name but he refers to himself as, "That a$$hole" and always gives me good advise. Round Corner is your average neighborhood dive. It's right in a residential area and you can tell many of the customers are regulars that walk there. It's got your usual dive bar features: ripped and/or dirty seats, cheap beer, cash only, pool table and a jukebox. But for me it lacks a certain dive je ne sais quoi. It's super close to me but I only go there because my friends go, I may or may not go if I was personally looking for a dive to get drunk in. Never the less, I give props for the bartenders that seem pretty chill, the yummy bar food (what nibbles I've snuck from friends were pretty tasty) and the 50 cent "erotic novelties" vending machine in the stall of the ladies bathroom. Which I may have pumped a few dollars into, then took the prizes back to the bar where I spread them all out for us all to inspect. Drunk girls be cray! ;) read more

Round Corner, or RC, is probably my favorite dive bar in midtown for a number of reasons. 1. The pool tables. I love pool and there is some really good competition here almost every night. There are a ton of regulars here and I've played them all. The only problem is there are only 2 tables so when it gets busy you can wait awhile to play. Once you do get on a table don't lose! It might be awhile before you play again if you lose so just keep winning! 2. The staff is super friendly. They know be by name and always poor me a Sierra (my beer of choice) as soon as they see me walk in. They all know what I like to drink! 3. The drinks are cheap and they pour heavy!!! 4. Steve and George are the best bartenders in town. Sure, the place is a shit hole, but it's mostly regulars and they all look out for each other. I remember the first time I walked into the Round Corner after moving into the neighborhood on a hot summer day and the place went quiet as everyone turned to look who walked in. Now I'm one of the people turning and looking. You'll find a mix of ages here, 20's, 30's, 40's 50's and 60's and they all seem to know each other or have gotten to know each other to some degree. It's a friendly place with good people for customers that are quick to weed out peole who are creepers, douchebags and jerks. But if you're looking to find a divey shithole to have a good time in where you know peole won't screw you over, this is the place. read more

I haven't been to Round Corner in years, but back when I lived in Sacramento, this was the best, laid back, unpretentious, old-school bar I'd ever been in. There's no "scene," and it's not a club. It's just a bar. It's just a fuckin' bar. Pool tables. Jukebox. Affordable beer on tap. Greasy breakfast sandwiches. Hell, they even cashed a paycheck or two for me. This place is effin GOLDEN! The drinks are cheap yet strong as hell and it is one of the best bars to chill with some friends and people watch. The crowd is different every day and every night and the "regulars" stumble in only on the occasion that they couldn't make it to the next bar without yet another drink, so you don't have to deal with any "cool kids" that want to claim the RC as theirs. Tuesdays are Taco Tuesdays and the tacos are delicious. I am a huge fan of the mozzarella cheese sticks. Well, I was when I was drinking like a fish but then again almost anything tastes good when it's greasy and you are tanked. The food definitely fills those bellies when it is most needed though and the convenient midtown location makes it a great spot to stop when you don't think you will be able to drive later. read more

I am impressed with Round Corner as a Local corner bar . It has all the normal stuff of a neighborhood bar should have , 3 - 4 TV's , couple pool tables , PBR on tap and food ! With somewhat limited space [ in the kitchen ] and what could be a variable menu the Cook is cranking out some good stuff . I had the chicken wings which took some time but I was told straight up what the deal was . These were whole wings and I'm sure that they are totally made in house . My local guide and friends had 2 Broke Mouth 'rice bowl' things plus 2 other rice bowl things that looked great and smelled even better . It appeared to be a one man show taking orders , cooking and delivering to tables but the guy seemed very patient and helpful . Real plates and silver ware no plastic or styrofoam here . If ever someone decided to open a VFW hall with the express purpose of serving a bunch of 20 somethings, all of whom were going through some sort of identity crisis, and none of whom were ever actually going to be in any foreign war if they could help it, well, this would be that place. The epitome of a dive bar! Came here because I needed some food after work, which was around midnight and at that hour on a weekday, there weren't many options. That, and apparently, my coworkers frequent Round Corner 2-3 times a week because the chicken tacos are so good. I ended up ordering everything on the menu except for the bacon cheeseburger. 9 tacos, a dozen wings, chicken tenders and mixed lumpia, all for $40. The chicken tacos were good indeed! Shredded chicken with a crispy soft tortilla and topped with a simple hot sauce, white sauce and veggies. Definitely recommended. Drinks are also dirt cheap. With two pool tables and a decent crowd, this is the perfect spot for a low key night out. read more

I tend to go here for awhile, then not, then start up again. We're "on" at the moment. Good local dive. Some changes since my last run with them. One is the new juke box, which still has plenty of good stuff (if you like jazz) but is LOUD AS FUCK. This is awesome when I am the one choosing the tunes, natch, but at some point someone is gonna play some Boston. The other night someone was rocking Tower of Power, which was fine. This is a place for serious pool and the watching of Giants games. They now have actual ginger ale, hooray. New kitchen is not quite as good as I hoped--the felafel balls themselves are good but the sandwich is kinda weird if you have ever had a real felafel sandwich. Still, nice that they have so many vegan options. And, since I am not vegan, getting a good BLT in a bar is pretty nice. Burger got raves from my homie. Meat is way cheaper than the veg options, regular fries are meh but sweet potato ones are yum. I am being super picky, its great food for a dive bar.
