Best damn BBQ I've had since being in SC. I had ribs and spicy sausage with coleslaw. Surprisingly I finished everything on my plate including all of the coleslaw. My boyfriend had pulled chicken sandwich and chili Mac. He said he hasn't had anything like it since he was stationed in TX over 10 years ago. We were both very impressed. This BBQ restaurant blows any other BBQ restaurant in New York that we have had out of the water. The place doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside was decent. True Texas BBQ in the Middle on Nowhere ? Sure, sign me up. Was passing by on the way back to NY from a trip upstate and got an early dinner here. Enjoyed the fresh air and the live band and beer garden they had outside. Go the marbled brisket, spicy sausage, and ribs for the meats and mac and cheese, coleslaw, and beans for the sides. I have been coming here for about 5 years now and the whole experience used to be consistently very good. I hate to write a bad review but today we had major issues on food and customer service. Food: Ribs and Brisket. No salt added at all to any of the meat. This is a big oversight by the pit-master. My brisket portion was also half fat and yes I do understand that it should have a little, but you can do a better job trimming. The mac and cheese was dreadful. Just globs of cold fake cheese. Customer service: All of the workers seem very annoyed and disgruntled. Condiments are no longer out due to Covid, but they are not happy when you ask for them. I asked for the damn salt since the food wasn't prepared correctly and they were annoyed that I was bothering them. Also, another customer was unhappy with his food and asked if they are the new owners and he got barked back at by the workers that nothing has changed. Finally, I needed a to go container and got stuck with a small one, but due to the customer service opted not to ask and wound up throwing some of the food out. Overall, I myself wonder if this place was sold or the owner is neglecting this place for his new location up in Beacon. We rarely go out to eat now due to Covid, but can't honestly waste my money and risk my health again here. By the way, some of the tables are not 6 feet apart. read more

For such an unassuming place with little social media presence, they sure know how to do BBQ. I've been here twice and have no problem driving 20 min there just to pick up food and drive home to eat it. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, but I like to eat in my own comfort making a mess without judgment lol. I wish I had pictures but of course I didn't take any. My only criticism is probably that I ordered very lean brisket, not realizing until I got home that that meant they completely cut off the fat cap on top where all the seasoning was. It somewhat defeated the purpose of brisket, so it's just a lesson for next time. Also, the side of bbq sauce this time was certainly a very different (not in a good way) recipe from my first time there..it tasted like straight up ketchup that was smoked. The first time I had it, it was legit perfect bbq sauce. Thankfully I had some leftover and was able to use it to moisten the brisket. The cornbread is soooo good..sweet but not too much, perfect with the Smokey brisket. The Mac n cheese was also very good, I may or may not get it again. One of the very very few places open during the virus pandemic. Food was pretty good, menu good. Not a fancy place, but that's A-O-K with me. I went up by motorcycle with a "gang" of 10 others, soon to be joined by another "gang". Seems to be the known secret of Route 9. Plenty of parking, and everyone did their darn best with the restrictions of distancing, etc. Also enough grass and space to have a spontaneous picnic if you can't wait to eat! read more

Hillbilly bbq place in the middle of no where. Just how I like it. It's basically a food truck attached to a shack with the best bbq food in the New York area. I recommend getting the deep fried corn bread and the Dino rib. The outdoor area is very pleasant with live music and a walk up beverage tent. Staff is informative and friendly. This is a great place for smoked brisket and fall off the bone ribs. They also serve smoked chicken and a few sides. This place is unique in that the dining area is small and is half of a barn. The other half is the smoker. The food is served through an opening from a trailer adjacent to the barn. There is no table service. Beer and soft drinks only. A little pricey for what it is. We just got hitched this summer and we didn't really do a honeymoon, so we decided to just go upstate for a few days. We were gifted a night's stay at Mohonk Mountain House and we decided to hang in Beacon for a night because it's a super cool artsy town with a fun main street and close to great museums. Anyways...the boy was Yelping around and found this place. And he wanted brisket. So, I indulged him. We took the trek (maybe 20 minutes, if that) from Beacon and stumble upon this place. Very unassuming and super laid back and low key. We ordered inside, then said we'd eat outside. Well - with a crazy 10 month old, that didn't work out. He was crawling all over the grass and being crazy. Oh yes - that reminds me - the outdoor seating is picnic tables with umbrellas and they call your order out when it's ready. We ended up dining inside, which worked out a bit better since no one else was inside. We ordered: Blackened catfish sandwich (for me) Brisket (for the big boy) FRIES (because of course) I'll start by saying that the boy ate his brisket....and then went up and ordered more, because he said it was THAT good. The catfish sandwich was HUGE. Ginormous. I couldn't eat the entire thing. So, I shared with my boys. This was also really tasty with a nice spice to it, and my first time ever having catfish. The fries were outstanding! Perfectly spiced, perfectly cooked. Mmmmm!!! The owner came out to talk to us and ask us how we liked our meal. We got to chatting (hey, I'm a Sagittarius, we talk to everyone) and he is like, the friendliest nicest guy ever. He's originally from Texas and moved here. I got him to show us the smokers and "where the magic happens". They have quite the set up here and the food is just sooooooo good. We live far away so we always try to get here once or twice a year. We love getting the combo platters and sides and LOVE the Dino ribs. Meat is always smoked to perfection and fall off the bone good. We highly recommend both marbled and lean brisket. We tried the sausage for the first time and it was perfect and had a zesty flavor. The chicken is okay bc it's existence is ignored in favor of Ribby-goodness. This time a big fan fav was the pork ribs and corn bread. The SO loves their jalapeño Mac and cheese and he enjoyed the potato salad this time. We always try something new each time we go whether it's a new meat/side/drink. It's a very unassuming place and their bathroom is like a trip to summer camp but it adds to the country chic vibe also if it's a hole in the ground we will go and not be picky. They've got some cute sayings in there that give you a chuckle when you tinkle. Can't say enough about their food and friendliness. Cute inside and outside area. 2 Stars for staff being friendly, and the overall BBQ joint vibe it gives off (there is a trailer where the food is prepared connected to an indoor seating area of wooden tables, as well as outdoor picnic tables). Unfortunately, the food wasn't anything to rave about. Ate here for dinner and most of the food was cold. Got a sampling of many different things from the menu. The BBQ sauce was okay, the Pulled chicken was super dry (despite being covered in sauce) and so was the sausage. The brisket & ribs were both pretty good (and wasn't fatty which was nice), but cold. The smoked chicken was okay, would have probably been better if it was warm. The coleslaw and potato salad were average. The mashed potatoes and gravy was both very good, and nice & warm. The Mac & Cheese tasted like they mixed pasta with cheese whiz and scallions. The Frito Pie should be called "decomposed frito pie", "DIY Frito Pie", or "Chili & Fritos" because you get a cup of chili (which was really good) and a bag of Fritos, and no cheese... the rest is up to you. Based on the fact that this places has an average of 4.5 stars, I'd like to presume the food is really good at lunch time when it's fresh and hot; but that's just an optimistic assumption. read more

Great little bbq place. I'm from the South and take my bbq serious. I was hesitant since I know "Yankees" use the term bbq for anything grilled- like hamburgers and hotdogs.......which is sacrilegious. This place did not disappoint. You get your food (even if you are "eating in") through a window, delivered in a styrofoam box. The tables are picnic benches. The beer is self-serve in an ice box in the middle of the "dining room." But you know what? It is all -- down to the RV that serves as the kitchen -- positively awesome. The stuff in the box is terrific. Texas-style barbeque, the smoke is so potent it sticks with you (and your clothes) until your next shower. The ribs are thick and meaty and tender and peppery (sauce is an option for you after they arrive); the product is beyond perfect. I say this as someone who has himself been working on delivering top notch ribs for several years now; the folks at Texas Round Up completely, totally wax my tail. I feel duly humbled, and like I need to go back to square one. And then there's the brisket. Any barbeque guy will tell you that the true test of a barbeque's mettle is the brisket; I ordered a pound of it for 4 of us, and the question that I was asked was "Fatty, lean, or marbled?" I nearly fainted, and chose marbled. I was rewarded with tender, fabulous meat that was clearly the work of a subject matter expert. Oh yeah. I am, which is why I was pleasantly pleased and thankful when I checked out Round Up. Going on a recommendation from a fellow Yelper, I walked in and right away knew this place was the real deal. Actually, you smell the BBQ smoker before you even enter the building, which is a good sign (and good smell). I've been there several times now and can attest that the 1/2 chicken, pulled chicken sandwich, ribs, chicken wings, bbq sauce, potato salad, and corn bread are incredibly delicious. Eventually, I'll work my way through the entire menu, because I don't believe they can do any wrong. The folks who run Round Up are so nice, and so quick, that you want to pay MORE for their very affordable food. This is the way BBQ SHOULD be done. Finally decided to try it and I will say this before I get in to it, MUST TRY!! Drive in and it has the country BBQ vibe you could smell the wood and food from the parking lot. Walking into restaurant there was a sign stating they are doing renovations so only 2 tables were available to seat but on the patio, there is lots of room and a live band was playing. Wanted to try it all so went with sampler but under fear of not having enough went with a 3 meat combo as well. Sat outside food came out few minutes later from that little trailer where it is being cooked and there should of been a choir of Angles singing. 2 packed trays with food fit for the Gods. The ribs were out of this world flavor, color, texture just I was in heaven. The sausage was smokey and juicy full of flavor. Chicken was juicy, cooked and tasty. Brisket (marbled) was shockingly good wish I got more. The shocker was the fried green beans, stop reading this and go order it now! Corn bread was like corn cake didn't need butter or nothing! Their BBQ is out of this world! Met "Brisket Bill" "The BBQ Pitmaster!" What a friendly guy. :) The meat was so tender and so tasty! My suggestion, do the combo so that you get to try different meats. While I was enjoying my brisket, ribs and sausages this lady walked up to the counter and asked, "Do you have vegetarian BBQ?" Seriously! You are in a wrong place lady! C'mon! Anyway, going back to my "heavenly BBQ..." You should also try their mac & cheese. So creamy and cheesy. I highly suggest eating the BBQ without the sauce and then try it with their version of BBQ sauce. So delicious! It bumps it up to a different level. For most people reading this, this spot is a tough sell, simply because it's likely far away from wherever you live and because it's seemingly in the middle of nowhere...which it really is. If, however, you can get past this obstacle, be prepared to experience some of the best, if not the best, BBQ you can get in all of New York. Yes, it's that great. I've been to Round Up twice now, nearly a year apart, and both times I've had a similar, incredulous reaction to the sheer flavor and "authenticity" of its BBQ and smoking skills. As I've mentioned in previous reviews, due to my frequenting of the South, particularly NC, I feel as if I know something about BBQ, and of all the places I've been to in the northeast, this place just "gets it". Their menu is vast, so if you do decide to make the trip, the "must haves" are their smoked, dry-rubbed ribs and chicken, both of which basically fall off the bone, as well as their exceptional marbled brisket, and housemade sausage. All of their sides are spectacular, namely their mac 'n cheese, which is super creamy and mildly spicy due to the addition of mild jalapeños cooked in, as well as their beans (vegetarian, if you can believe it), crispy coleslaw, fried okra, and potato salad. They also have a Texas-inspired beer list, which features several versions of Shiner. I really don't know what else to say. Hit the road for what will be an unforgettable meal. read more

I believe the owner needs to find better employees who are interested in serving customers. Went there yesterday and walked in at 6:30. The sign outside said open. When I walked to the window to order, the 3 young men informed me that they closed at 6:30 and that they had already cleaned the kitchen and were not going to sell me anything. So in fact, they did not close at 6:30 but had started closing at least 30 minutes before that. Other establishments which are run by the owners tend to care more about their customers. Maybe this owner doesn't know or care. I live in this area and have been a regular customer. I don't appreciate the attitude and obvious disdain for customers. read more

First I would like to say I love BBQ. We my family and I moved to the area and I was thrilled about this spot. Looks like the perfect run down BBQ spot with delicious food. The first time My wife and I went, the food was completely smoked too long, not flavored well and was just not good BBQ. I had brisket and ribs, my wife had the chicken. I always give places a second chance, so I decided to go alone again this weekend and, had the ribs and brisket combo, fries, wanted chilli but, they were out. I couldn't even finish the meat, ribs completely over cooked and not seasoned. The brisket was smoked to death as well. Both were bitter and not good at all. I ate the fries since I was hungry, but would have eaten frozen ones from my freezer. Please make this place better, please! It's so close to my house and I love BBQ read more

I feel terrible blowing up the amazing reviews - to be clear, this is a solid 3.5 but it wasn't as juicy as I'd expected given the high marks. It's all a matter of preference I guess. Stopped by for some takeout on a quiet Saturday around 6ish. Took out a platter of brisket, pork ribs, sausage. I was told that it was good for 2 but didn't feel like it was.. I should have done a combo platter and maybe another platter or something else. The sausage was the best, very well flavored, juicy. The ribs were next best followed by the brisket. I felt...the food was well-smoked but under seasoned and a bit dry. To be honest, I didn't douse it in sauce as I'm not a fan of thick Texas style (only like Carolina vinegar style) but I still thought even without sauce, the food would still be very juicy. They also asked if I wanted marbeling or not, which I of course said yes. Got a side of okra fries (disappointing, too breaded and plain), corn bread skillet (not crispy enough), mac and cheese (this was good) and cole slaw for my husband, which I didn't try as I don't like it. I'm not sure how often I'll be in the area - I might come back but I'm leaning towards no. My wife and I always rate our restaurant experience in three categories: customer service, cleanliness, and food quality. 1: Customer Service was helpful, informative, polite, and kind. 4 out of 5 2: Cleanliness was awful and the overall presentation of the place when I pulled in almost encouraged me to drive away. Floors were sticky, appeared to have not had a deep cleaning in a long time, spiderwebs on the windows and door jams, and could not find the inspection certificate anywhere in the place. 0 out of 5 3. Food quality was good and met what I expected it to be. Nothing to hype and rave about. This is not the restaurant I would plan a family dinner or work outing. 3 out of 5 Overall, the place seems to have gone down due to lack of management and/or complacency. Mashed with the gravy is on point and the cornbread is just sweet enough to not need butter. Meat is decent - not bad, not great but it's filling and not too expensive.
