Rove is a solid place to go to in forest hills. They have a good menu and the people who work there always make it a great time. I will say that their service can be a little slow at times as it seems like their kitchen gets backed up, but they have make up for it with their food. Not much else to say here but a very solid place. Will visit more and post with food and service updates. read more

We took friends here for brunch and were very disappointed. I ordered the steak and eggs and my friend ordered the eggs Benedict. Everyone at the table got theirs before I did. When they finally brought the steak it was very over-cooked. So they took it and I waited again. By the time they brought the second steak everyone else had finished their meals and my steak was still over cooked. My friend, who ordered the eggs Benedict, had requested another egg since her egg was hard boiled. Again with the over cooking! The waitress said she would bring a new one and then never came back. While strolling up and down Austin St. on a Friday night, Rove caught my eye. The place was packed but luckily there was an empty table in the back corner so we were seated right away. The restaurant is split into two sections. As soon as you walk in is the bar area with stools surrounding it and two large booths with high chairs. It was very crowded here but on the other side of the booths is the "sit down" section with several 2 and 4-seat tables. The decor is nice with dim Edison light-bulbs and candles and wood beams. The service was really great as we had two waitresses (interchange bringing us the menu, taking our order, getting our drinks, refilling water etc) and both were really friendly. Food came out very quickly. The menu has a lot of yummy sounding options and I went with the bourbon burger (pepper crusted angus beef, brie, arugula, red onion, bourbon gravy, on brioche). Unfortunately, it was cooked more than the medium I requested so next time, I'll make sure to ask for medium rare. While the burger tasted fine, the "bourbon gravy" is a stretch of a description. There was no noticeable "gravy" on my burger so that was a bit disappointing. Their Happy Hour goes until 8pm which is really nice. The main complaint I have is the restaurant is really really loud. They play the music up really high and everyone ends up raising their voice to talk over it to be heard. The space has lots of wood paneling that may add to the echos of the acoustics. read more

We wanted to eat at Jack and Nellie's but they were full and the host recommended that we try Rove, their sister restaurant a couple of blocks away. I think that was a huge leap bad call on his part since the road is more of a bar restaurant and we had a child with us. Rove was extremely loud and the food mediocre at best. The waitress was extremely friendly and made an otherwise horrible brunch better. The food is overpriced, the poached eggs on my eggs Benedict were broken, and my boyfriends egg was completely overcooked on his breakfast burger. The flavor of the food in general wasn't bad but we ordered a side of bacon that cost four dollars and it literally was three pieces of overly deep-fried bacon. The chicken and waffles we're OK because the chicken was tender had a great dipping sauce. However, their " homemade" waffles we're really not very good. They were soggy and not very flavorful. I would still try Jack and Nellie's when I get a chance because I have been there before for dinner and drinks and their service/food were very good but never going back to Rove again. read more

Nothing special with brunch, frankly speaking. The taste and the options didn't wow me. I got the pepperjack omelet that didn't really impress. I love this restaurant. Good food. Much better waitstaff than Jack and Nellie's. But I went to brunch here last weekend and it felt like a 16 year old was testing out their dj skills on their customers. It came with spinach & canadian bacon. Fresh herbs. Beautiful presentation. They don't have french press coffee like their sister restaurant, Jack & Nellies, however, the coffee was perfect. My friend and I went to Rove on Friday night. This was my second visit, as I had been underwhelmed by my first visit there, which was for brunch. That meal had been OK, but nothing to "rove" about. I had never tried them for dinner so I was curious. The waitress informed us that Friday was "fish fry" night, and so we ordered the special. What a disappointment! All you get are three tiny pieces of fried cod (think hush puppies, not a full fish fillet) and a mountain of salad or fries. My friend ordered the fries and she had to dig through a forest of them just to find the cod. I chose the salad, which consisted of nothing more than a lot of argula, a few cherry tomatoes, and a light vinaigrette. After this, I was still hungry. The "meal" cost $15, but it should have been categorized as an appetizer. I haven't had any of the other entrees, but I was really surprised at how stingy the serving size was. My friend didn't complain because the cheap fries filled her up. I was still so hungry I could have ordered another dish, but I was so annoyed by the meager size of the portion, I wasn't about to give them any more money. Rove is a nice little spot on Austin. It's a small space yet doesn't feel cramped even with our party of 6. They have a few nice happy hour specials which is mostly wines and beer not mixed drinks. I had the classic burger and sample some of the beef nachos. Both were good, but nothing special. The service was adequate but again nothing of note. After the wrong check was brought to us, and after we paid the correct one, it was clear by the hovering that the table needed to be turned! Not sure why because the room was half empty but perhaps they were waiting for the late night regulars to come. If the point of your gathering is to enjoy your company in a chill, mature and intimate space then go. A food and drink destination it is not. read more

This review is just for the brunch. I had the eggs Benedict and my friend had the shrimp dish. The opinion at the end of the meal was they were both 'Meh'. The dishes were flavorless, bland, boring and sad. She fared somewhat better as she was proactive and started sprinkling salt after about 2 bites. I'm an optimist and continued with the hope that my taste buds would receive some gratification. By the last bite, that was not the case. The fuzzy slipper was also a disappointment. It makes up in quantity for what it lacks in quality. The only distinct flavor is 'watered down'. I planned to give 2 stars, but the waitstaff is attentive and take communicated my special request to the kitchen to my satisfaction. My pals and I "roved" on in last night and luckily happy hour was still in effect. Our server was a rockstar and the sweetest lady ever. I had a glass of white wine and a pilsner, very refreshing in this sticky weather. Our app was the big and filling hummus platter. I think that could serve as an entree if you want something light. The hummus and eggplant dips were very delicioso, and the grilled pita bread triangles had a nice smoky flavor. Now the star of the evening was the enormous black bean burger and fries. One friend also ordered it, and the other friend ordered a cheese burger. The black bean burger had great flavor and the chipotle mayo was spicy. I love spice! I knew I would love Rove once I found out Jack & Nellie's were involved. I've been living in Forest Hills now over 5 years and Eve has always been one of my favorite people. Rove may not jump out at you from the outside under all the scaffolding but once inside the atmosphere is great. As expected the food is all top notch and will keep you coming back. There isn't anything that I've tried that I haven't loved. They have a great happy hour from 3-8, so for those who may work later than others you can still swing by and enjoy some cheap drinks & bar bites (Fried Pork Dumplings are great) The only thing I haven't tried is brunch but it's at the top of my list. Do yourself a favor and stop in, have a drink and try the food. It has it's own unique style and is delicious. read more

Was looking for a place to have brunch on a Sunday afternoon, after looking around places that i was closed by i found this restaurant. i got sited as soon as i arrived, thanks God because i was very hungry. The food came very quickly as well, i had the breakfast BLT and added Jalapeno cheese. I've had the Cajun fries and vegetation quesadilla almost every time I've been here. Both delicious. However, last time I ordered a margarita and there was almost no alcohol. Well on Sat I was in the mood for something good that wasn't home cooked and I called Rove to order the braised beef special. OMG, it was soooooo good! Exceeded my expectations!!. The food was good but the brunch menu (descriptions) needs some updating/tweaking... It doesn't justify why I'm paying these prices for a poached egg or an egg salad...or the item offered doesn't describe that I'm getting a good mix of eggs meat me veggie combo. For my first visit, after reading the brunch menu, I want to leave. I could not find one thing that appealed to me. So I did not want to order from it. Would have given a much better review if not for two significant things: 1. The service was poor. Overall friendly, but not attentive. I asked for water multiple times only to be ignored or forgotten and finally got up and got the pitcher myself and refilled my water glass. 2. Only did I see when looking at the check that when the waiter was so happy to sub spinach for bacon, he didn't actually substitute it. Instead it was added as an extra. Not only is it unacceptable to do that (if you're taking out bacon and giving spinach instead I shouldn't pay more), but it's especially unacceptable not to say in advance that it will be an additional charge.
