Claire's got an upgrade! Conveniently located in Mosaic Center, Rowan is a piercing shop with aesthetic pink walls, trendy neon lighting, and trained licensed nurses providing handheld device or needle piercings. The store accepts walk-ins but I highly recommend making an appointment as the shop gets really busy (especially on weekends). Appointments are thirty minutes long but in reality it takes about fifteen minutes (depending on how busy they are). We went with a group of toddlers / elementary age children and the pretty atmosphere, branded hair ties, and lollipops made them feel at ease. They loved being able to look at the display case of earrings, placing the samples on their ears, and choosing their new jewelry. We worked with one nurse in particular and she was absolutely patient and wonderful. The other one was not particularly customer oriented, but she got the job done. Crying was minimal and we were all pleased with the results. Cleanliness, attention to detail, and aftercare instructions were great. I spent $700 at Rowan in March. I got 2 third holes in my lobe and 2 helixes. The price of the earrings were absolutely ridiculous for one, but I spent it because I thought the whole experience was cute. After the healing time, I pulled my left helix out and the bar came out with the back. When I called Rowan Fairfax corner they said there was nothing that they could do. Thankfully corporate did send me a new earring. However, that very same earring got embedded the flat back into the back of my ear and I had to go to urgent care to get it cut out and be put on antibiotics. Now after I dealt with that, I decided to leave my right helix in bc it never stopped hurting enough so I decided not to change anything and now I realize it's bc I have a GIANT red bump right next to the piercing. So I will be having to go back to the doctor for that now and $700 later plus urgent care fees the only earrings that did not absolutely obliterate my ears are the third hole lobe piercings which I could've gotten for a fourth of what I paid for anywhere else. The piercer also was so slow that even with my very high pain tolerance, I was like get this over with. I say stay away! read more

I decided to give Rowan another try. I had originally tried their Ashburn location when they first opened and I was so turned off by the lack of professionalism thru the process. This location was completely DIFFERENT. I had a scheduled appointment and the lady at the front explained thoroughly the process of the piercing (needle vs the gun), earrings pricing, how it would be done and the cost of everything. The nurse who did the piercing was nice and made sure the placement was perfect before the actual piercing. I would recommend this location to anyone looking to get a piercing done. read more

I took my very nervous daughter to get her ears pierced at Rowan in the Mosaic District. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They were incredibly patient and kind. They comforted her and gave her the patience and comapssion to help her conquer her fear. Such kind and caring service is not the norm these days. I honestly think this shop is so overpriced!! I got my cartilage pierced about 5 months ago and for some reason now I'm getting a bump behind it and it hurts I bought there natural spray cleaner I applied that after like they said and it's gotten infected now I try to call to see how I can go by this infected ear and they don't answer is just a automatic voicemail ridiculous!!!! read more

Overall great experience at Rowan. We went for my daughter's birthday--six !--they were so patient, kind and accommodating to a scared kid, who may have been a bit overdramatic between ear one and two. The tech/nurse took her time. Explained everything and did a superb job with placement etc. I knocked a star bc when we were leaving they went over cleaning protocol and made it sound like the spray was just included in the service. It definitely was not--and cost $20! I didn't realize until after we left and then we returned it bc--alcohol swabs do the same thing. But I also realized the tip screen (auto percent selection) went on the entire purchase!! Not just the service. So she got a 40% tip...which, yes is on me, but also not really acceptable for the percents to be put up so high when you are paying for the service and products in one...just the piercing with lowest cost earring would have been $100 (piercing itself $50). It's twice as expensive as Claire's but besides the fancy decor in the shop I don't see any thing else that's worth the price. The nurse who did the piecing was okay but sounded impatient. Service was cold. Or no service at all? My daughter did her first earlobe piercings more than 8 weeks ago and both ears still get infected from time to time. I have to order another bottle of cleanser myself. Overall it's an okay place but for the price I had to pay I would not recommend. read more

Would not recommend this place for Toddler piercings! I never really write bad reviews but I think it's important for ppl with little kids to know that this might not be the place for a 4-5 year to get piercings. We had a bad experience with them with my 4 year old here. My daughter was adamant she wanted to get her ears pierced that day. We drove 25 mins out of our way as they have licensed nurses doing the piercings but Diana who was helping us had no idea how to interact with toddlers and she herself seemed anxious and unsure about piercing for a toddler. It was clear she had never done piercings for a toddler before. My daughter was a little anxious about the pain and she kept trying to interact with Diana to develop some trust and get some reassurance but Diana seemed annoyed with my daughter's questions, was kind of cold, not pleasant and kind. Many times she straight up ignored my daughter's questions and just stayed quiet instead and I had to jump in and answer instead, it was so wrong! It seemed she expected a 4 year old to just quietly go through the process?! If you have a 4 year old you know they have a lot of questions about everything. She asked my daughter a gazillion times if she wanted to get the piercings through out the process and prolonged the process painfully, like why are you making it a big deal to simply mark her ears with a pen, all that should be made to be a happy exciting part of the process right?! She prolonged the process so much, made it seem daunting instead of being reassuring, excited and swift. Our daughter didn't end up getting the piercing that day, I don't blame her! They made us buy the earrings for $60 anyway and now we're looking for a more kid friendly place to get the piercing. read more
