The only reason that I didn't give this place a better review is there was a hair on the edge of my table which had obviously been left from the cloth they used to wipe down the table. I got there early so there was no wait but by the time I left there was a line of two-three groups and it was only 8:30 so definitely get there early if you don't want to wait. Other than that the food was fantastic. I had the special French toast which was pumpkin bread French toast. My friend had the crab cakes eggs benedict. Both dishes were great. The service was fast, friendly and attentive. Even though there was a line of people waiting I didn't feel like I was being rushed out. Despite the issue with the table I would definitely recommend this place to anyone just get there early or be resigned to wait. read more

The place is humming- a good thing they are expanding so more folks will be able to enjoy. I've been here twice & both times the food was fresh, hot and delicious. Servers are very Friendly. At Rox they clean the tables very throughly before you are seated. My friends got one of the Benedicts and we got their corned beef hash on both occasions. Fresh and nicely crispy, Rox puts slivers of onion and peppers in their hash. Eggs are organic and there are many inventive choices on their menu. The pancakes are light and fluffy with real maple syrup at no extra charge! The boss of the out to eat breakfast, home fries are seasoned and crisp without greasiness or being too salty. The only downside I found was the Bloody Mary my friend had was too watery... I've been back a couple of times since this review, and in my experience Rox is consistently good. read more

It was our first time here so we didn't know if we should seat ourselves or wait to be served, but we followed the lead of the pair in front of us and sat down at an open table. Service was great and fast. I ordered the Tahitian French toast: three slices of bread, mangos, coconut flakes, and cinnamon sugar. I liked it but was left wishing I had ordered something savory to balance out the sweetness. My friend ordered the blueberry pecan mascarpone pancakes. The food is uniformly excellent, the service is quick and I've never had an issue, and the price is reasonable! They do a really good eggs benedict and the large "breakfast platter" style dishes are also always great! This diner is overly expensive, and awful. If what you're seeking is a bunch of teenagers slapping together garbage food, then look no further. I ordered their Cali veggie egg sandwhich to go (Covid), and what I got was a take out box that looks like they put all the ingredients in the box, hit it with a hammer, shook the box up after while laughing, then took it out back and played catch with it. Don't waste your money and eat here. My girlfriend got a meal too and the bacon wasn't even done. The French Toast wasn't done, like the egg wash wasn't even cooked. SUCH A cute little place! I met a friend here at eight in the morning on a Saturday, and there was already a line! There are so many options on the menu, and it seemed that regardless of what you got, you would enjoy it. I got the egg and cheese sandwich with bacon and avocado. As a recently arrived resident of West Roxbury (I think I'm technically considered gentrifying scum), I was happy to see that Rox Diner is a nice place to go. The little lady, the babynugget and I somehow managed to perfectly time our Sunday morning visit to this place during mass (we're also *godless* gentrifying scum), so we had no trouble getting a table while everybody else in town was feelin' guilty in a pew -- a distinct benefit of living in an Irish Catholic neighborhood. The wait staff were incredibly sweet and, further to their credit, cooed at the Nugget to the exclusion of the uglier children in the room. My breakfast sandwich (with tomato!) was greasy, gooey, crumbly and therefore satisfying, and even the healthy omelet was tasty. Coffee was not-so-great, and the layout of the dining area is cramped, but I like the place overall. read more

Finally gave this local spot a try this morning - I'm so glad we did. We just beat the crowd at 9:30 and got a seat right away. Our wait staff was kind, quick and efficient, the menu extensive and well thought out. Though there were lots of possibilities to choose from, I couldn't pass up the Lobster Benny special. Though I really never order eggs benedict, it just seemed right. It was such a good choice. It was a really pretty dish (see photo) with PLENTY of fresh lobster meat, a nice mix of tail and claw, just the way I like it. Eggs were *perfect* and home fries just right. My husband got fresh squeezed oj (he called it sunshine) simple eggs, toast, and bacon - all given a thumbs up from the Wisconsin bacon snob that he is :) One star away from perfect because the coffee was weak and lacked flavor (I'll admit I'm a coffee snob...) we were a bit cramped for space and I felt a bit rushed as the crowd quickly piled up at the door. In an unprecedented turn of events, Yelp has steered me wrong. I was very excited to make the drive out to Roxbury to try out this diner and walk around the Arboretum (which never disappoints). The food was quite average... not bad, but when the potatoes are by far the best tasting thing on the plate, it's not good. The worst part of our breakfast here was the service. It's not a big place, and it seemed that the number of servers was ample. We may have just gotten a bad draw, but she was slloooowwwww, unfriendly, and possibly mute. After no coffee refills and a drive-by check drop off, I finally asked another server to please take our money. My wife and child had long since went outside out of the bordedom of waiting. The worst part is that there were people waiting for a table. We will not return here, and the owner seriously needs to train the staff. read more

He's rude, clueless and so slow that on a busy Sunday half the tables sit empty while he leaves a sidewalk full of people waiting outside. My wife and I arrived at 11am on a Sunday to see an entirely empty, clean counter that we were not allowed to sit at until he "went through his list" which took over 15 minutes for him to even bother to do. If I wanted to stand around and look at empty places where I'm not allowed to sit, I'll do it closer to home at Sugar in Rozzie. Sorry, Rox Diner, but after many years we're breaking up until you fix this problem. read more

The food and service was terrific! I'd highly recommend any of the breakfast items on the menu. The bacon, sausage, and home fries were amazing! The service was quick and polite. The only reason I knocked 2 stars off was they had no public restrooms! It looks as though a bathroom is available, but cannot get to it without going through the kitchen. They specifically had a sign up stating "restroom is for employees only, sorry for the inconvenience." Not sure how this is legal, but when I asked where the restroom is, they stated 2 different businesses that I could go to. I'd go back, but would not drink anything beforehand. read more

I have been to many diners all over the country and Canada and this is, BY FAR, the best. Let's start with the fact that they serve real maple syrup. Who does that? I'm going back just to have French toast with maple syrup. I ordered the Alaskan poached eggs with smoked salmon. There were layers of salmon, not just one or two small pieces. The eggs were poached to perfection and when I tasted their Hollandaise sauce I was blown away with the fact they served real Hollandaise made with lemon, real lemon. While the sign outside says diner don't be lulled, as I was, into thinking it is just a diner, it is so much more than that. read more

I've been to the Rox Diner twice so far, and I anticipate many more trips in my future. Our first experience was on crisp, sunny Autumn afternoon. I was 38-something weeks pregnant, with a belly out to the table (literally, I couldn't lean forward) and an appetite the size of a small pumpkin, ironically, also how large my stomach was. We live in Roslindale, and the options for breakfast and brunch there are, well, Sugar. And we've been there enough times that it was time for something different. I Yelped around (of course) and found Rox Diner. We showed up and were seated right away at a booth in the back of the restaurant. The place is on the small side - definitely no room for strollers or any large baggage so to speak. I would guess there's something like 10-12 tables that seat anywhere from 2-4 guests. There is a very small bar-style seating area as well toward the back, which has maybe 4-5 bar stools and a TV. The wall isn't plastered with old photos and newspaper clippings like some old and divey diners, it's also not littered with kitschy-country wall hangings or tacky signs with cliche phrases like "In food we trust, all others must pay cash". Come to think of it, there isn't much of anything decorating the place, it is kind of plain and simple, save for a mirror or two on the back wall. Anyways, I got this huge platter of food (naturally) which had pancakes, sausage (seemingly of the Johnsonville variety...) eggs and toast. Of course I didn't finish it all. Not because it wasn't good, but because I didn't want to literally be rolled out of the place. My husband got one of their breakfast sandwich options, which he really enjoyed. The second time we went, I had baby in tow - this time outside of the womb! - and we sat at almost the same table in the back. Again, no wait. This time I ordered from experience and got *only* an order of pancakes. Husband switched it up and got pancakes this time as well and we split an order of hash. The hash was AWESOME! I love love loved it, it is stringy and has green peppers in it from what I could tell. Not that cubed up crap that some places chuck at you. Husband polished off his buttermilk cakes and I got half way through my stack of blueberry-walnut-mascarpone cakes before feeling like I needed to get my blood sugar checked, in the best of ways. I was beyond pleased with my meal, just wish I could have finished it on either trip. It's such a shame to waste good food. :( The coffee I got wasn't anything special, but at least it wasn't nasty like some diners. Bonus is that they have real maple syrup on the table - to think that some places charge more to serve you real maple syrup - the nerve! The servers have been very friendly and accommodating on both trips. Not in your face or rude or lazy or anything else. Classic friendly diner waitresses who have probably worked there forever. You must take note - there is NO BATHROOM - not even for patrons. Well, obviously there IS a bathroom - but you can't use it. You have to walk through the kitchen to get to it, and so I'm assuming it is some sort of board of health violation to have patrons walking through the kitchen to get to a bathroom (ya, kinda gross). So make sure you stake out the nearest toilets if that is of any concern to you. The place is definitely family and kid friendly, which is great! There was a mom with a 10 day old baby when we went last, and another family with young kids. We'll be going back again and again, hopefully someday when our kid(s) are older too! I think I found my new favorite breakfast place in the area... read more

Absolutely delicious!!! I ordered one of the specials for today. It was Maine Lobster Benny. A little pricey ($16) but once I read the description I couldnt help myself. English Muffin topped with baby spinach, mounds of lobster meat, two poached eggs and an amazing Hollandaise sauce. It was as great as it sounds. And i was served with perfectly cooked home fries. My fella had my second choice. Tahitian French Toast. Coconut crusted brioche french toast stuffed with mango. I had to steal some. The coconut was toasted and tasty and went amzing well with the creamy french toast. And the mango was sweet, tangy and juicy. Absolutely brilliant. The only complaint we have is that the coffee was weak. But Ive come to expect that at diners and restaurant. Why not serve a bold blend?? Also in the end the price tag was a bit much for breakfast. With tip the total came to $42 for the two of us. But the, I had the lobster. When we arrived there was a line but it moved fairly quickly. We arrived at 1030 on Fathers Day. Im surprised it wasnt a longer wait. But considering how quickly our food came out Im not surprised how quickly the line moved. Cant wait to go back! Definitely a new favorite for us read more

I had the Isabela which is,1 silver dollar pancake, 1 egg any style, 2 strips of bacon w/ FANTASTIC peasant toast and a switch of fruit for home-fries. My partner had the West Roxbury - brioche french toast, 2 eggs any style, 2 bacon strips, 2 sausage links and the same fantastic toast and switch of fruit instead of home-fries. John and his staff do an amazing job every time I'm in there. I love the menu and the atmosphere. It's a clean well kept diner with well above average food. John is a creative genius when it comes to new takes on traditional meals. A few items that come to mind are the specials: Fenway Park Sausage Hash, the Strawberry and Nutella Stuffed French Toast, & their fresh squeezed orange juice. Walked in around 2:04 pm looking for a quick meal understanding they close at 2:30, two workers state in Spanish that they won't get out of there at 2:30 like they wanted to and the kitchen was closed. 1st time here and I be coming back (with my own coffee) My boyfriend got the classic Breakfast with turkey sausage and regular bacon and home fries -------everything was delicious especial the bacon (it was soo good I couldn't just have one bite) I got buttermilk pancakes with sausage, the pancakes are made from scratch and the best I have had in years.,...the sausage was a little fatty for me but still made very well.
