Ate here with my wife on 2/5/22. The interior was no frills, and could use a little touch up, decorating, and some paint. We looked up at the ceiling fans and couldn't believe how dirty and caked on the dirt and dust was. Luckily its winter and they weren't blowing down on us. A health department disaster. The waitresses walk around in sweat pants, black tights. They look as though they just rolled out of bed. But on the other hand they were nice and polite and the service prompt. Although im not a fan of a waitress plopping down the bill on the table and saying "When you're ready" while you're still eating and feeling rushed. And the place was not busy at all. This is day and night from what we've experienced in Europe. Now in regard to the food. We ordered the $6.50 breakfast with 2 eggs and the quality was good. Not greasy at all. Me and my man have been going here as usuals for a while, and it's still our go-to!! Where other places have lost quality, or have lost the good experience, Rox is consistent at delivering the Diner-feel as well as delicious and filling food. I also have Crohn's Disease, which disallows me from eating gluten or dairy. No problem!! At Rox, they offer a complement for Gluten-free toast and the like, and while meat is sometimes a problem in my diet, they also offer veggie options which has been amazing and a godsend. Check out their other locations around the Boston West area! The Toast Office in Westwood, the Grateful Diner in Dedham Square, and Rox Diner in Newtonville!! All are wonderful locations!! Good portions for the value. Solid brunch. Came in for brunch on a Sunday morning as a group of 4. There was a wait, but it was quick and we were seated within 5 minutes. There's a main area and an expansion on the other side where the bathrooms are. There's a mix of tables, booths, and bar seating; we got a table in the expansion area. Food takes a while when it's busy. We weren't in a hurry and had ordered a round of Bloody Marys so we didn't mind the wait. We ordered two Eggs Bollys ($12), a Classic Breakfast with Sausage ($7), and The Big Rig ($11). The Eggs Bolly is definitely worth a try. I enjoyed my Classic Breakfast and it was more than enough for me (even without eating the toast). The Big Rig is a huge commitment, but the boyfriend finished it with no problem. I went to Rox Diner on a Saturday for brunch with a friend. I've been to the Newton one but this is the original, and I like it much better! It is a small diner with a homey feel. They don't take reservations but I called ahead and asked about how long the wait was, and they said there wasn't too bad of a wait. When we got there we waited less than 10 minutes before being seated, and the restaurant was definitely full of hungry brunchers! I ordered the french toast with strawberries and chocolate. It was very good! The only complaints I have are my own fault - I am a chocolate addict so I think I was craving something smothered in Nutella. The chocolate chips didn't do it for me, but again this is nothing against the food itself! I would recommend this diner for anyone who is looking for a good homey brunch in the area. The food is good and the prices are relatively reasonable. I'll admit I wasn't totally blown away, but I was definitely more than satisfied =) read more

My first time to Boston w/ my dad, brother & boyfriend and we were craving breakfast, so we checked out Rox diner. Not only was the food amazing, but our waitress Rebecca was over the top amazing! She's a true Boston with some sas and fun personality! We had a blast visiting with her and cracking up! The food here was alright. There wasn't much seasoning or flavor to anything. We both got the Rox: French toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, toast. Our server was nice and attentive for the most part. The one star is for the older waitress with black hair. She was being extremely rude to our server and was refusing to help her do anything. Not only was she belittling, but also just embarrassing for the establishment in general. Unless if you order something off the senior menu or the list of sides, be prepared to pay $10-16 for breakfast for one. Service staff is attentive and helpful. The coffee isn't burnt. I love this diner but for some reason, the food is terrible on Sundays!!!! If you go on a weekday morning you will be pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food is. My sister told me that she also went on a Sunday (around 2:30pm) and the waitresses were turning off the lights around her and counting their tips!! I get that you are going to close but if some one is paying for a full service that includes electricity. Next time make sure that you make it clear that dine in orders must be laced by 2 pm so that you aren't sitting here kicking out your patrons! She also said one waitress was rude that same day; My sister told her to keep the change after ordering two mimosas and the Vermonter sandwich (she paid 40.00 cash and the meal came out to be 30 something) she had the AUDACITY to give her the change back like as if she was disgusted. You are turning lights off, counting money in front of paying customers like the place is closed, sitting people at the bar when there were plenty of tables available, and she came to dine in, and you want a decent tip. LMAO (Usually, people are allowed to seat themselves ANYWHERE when it's not too busy. ) She is lucky I wasn't there because I would have thrown the money on the floor. I don't disrespect people but I also don't tolerate it! Please talk to the staff on Sundays and make sure they are working as hard and that they are as respectful and pleasant as the weekday staff. While living in Boston, I searched and searched for the perfect breakfast place to enjoy great food and cheap prices. I found that at the Rox Diner. It is the tiniest place you'll go to for breakfast in West Roxbury but the food is AMAZING! I haven't had something off that menu that I didn't like and I keep coming back! They make their pancakes from scratch and you get the fluffiest, largest that you can think of. You have to come during the week because it just gets too crowded during the weekend and you get better service because there won't be as many people (work, school, etc.) and the waiters can actually move around without crashing into someone. I had a very bad experience at the diner yesterday. I waited for almost 15 minutes for a waiter. (Mind you I was sitting at the counter. They just kept ignoring me.) Then I waited another 25 minutes for my food. They had given my order to the couple sitting next to me. After it had been at their table (and they had been talking over the food) for several minutes the waitress said they made a mistake and tried to give me THAT order. Why would she think I would eat food after someone had been talking all over it for several minutes? I walked out. This place is obviously not the quality place it once was. It's a nice little hole in the world. If you're looking for a very classic American breakfast, this is the spot. They were very accommodating to our party of six and one of our gluten allergy. The menu is pretty big so there's really something for everyone. They even do a thing where they'll substitute your home fries and toast for more eggs if you don't want a lot of carbs for free! Saw Roxy Diner on the phantom gourmet show, so tried it out this morning the wait for a table was about 25 mins or so. Pretty solid brunch spot in West Roxbury. I came here with my dad a few days ago, and waited about 15-20 minutes to be seated, which was fine. We came at a prime brunch time, but the staff are very efficient in seating people as quickly as possible. We started off with refillable coffee. The waitresses are very attentive and it's like they could sense when our coffees were empty because they came right over and filled up our cup again! It's the little things, but they are very appreciated especially when it comes to needing your coffee in the morning. I ordered the smoked salmon egg's benedict (my staple) and my dad ordered a customized Western omelette. On the topic of my staple brunch food, I was already drawn to this place when I saw the menu outside and there was an entire section of different variations of egg's benedict -- "All about the bennys". I think this place is great, they have a good breakfast and they're one of the only breakfast places in the area where you can get a mimosa! The only thing is the service can be a little slow even if the place is almost empty, but this might be because we were seated outside and the outdoor space is too small for a server to be out there with us the whole time. One other small thing is when I asked if they had an Irish coffee they said no but they actually do have an "Irish cream coffee" on the menu. Probably just a new server. read more

I got a veggie burger with cole slaw and my bf got a western omelette that came with home fries. The veggie burger tasted like beans. The chipotle sauce was flavorful. It was a very basic burger. Bun, tomatoes, onion and veggie burger. The red onions were just raw. 1-10...I'd give it a 2. The cole slaw was good. It was nice and crunchy and well tossed in the mayo dressing.
