Roxy's is located inside of a small market called Paradise Food Mart. It's a family owned taco shop that hosts freshly made beef birria on the weekends and a variety of tacos, burritos, tortas, and quesadillas all the other days, including the weekends. I had "Roxy's Surf Burrito" in which they may have forgotten the "Turf' in the title, given the burrito also came with marinated carne asada, in addition to the shrimp. It was a good burrito, although I thought it was heavy on the rice and could of benefited from some avocado. The marinaded carne asada was not only tasty but tender, and the shrimp were succulent and quite tasty with the chipotle cream sauce. The rice was good, but like I said, there was just a lot of it. The burrito also came with beans, but I asked them on the side, and I was glad I did. They were great, but very robust, and in the burrito, they would of taken away the flavor of the meat and shrimp. I would forgo the beans, and either add guacamole or slice avocado and some chopped onions and cilantro: ingredients that would compliment the meat and shrimp and not mask them. 4.5 stars. This is such a good hole in the wall! Just went today after work for 1 set of 2 Mini Tacos of Carne Asada ($4), 1 set of 2 Mini Tacos of adobada ($4) and 2 regular sized fried fish tacos ($4 each). Overall, the ambiance is a nice taco shop. Tables outside under umbrellas, music playing in the background. They do sell beer or alcohol but we did not partake today. The lady was really nice serving us. The carne asada I feel I could have gotten better, but their adobada and fish tacos were bomb. I'll come back for them! I want to try some of their other items. Overall, I think it's a good value and if you are okay walking around in this neighborhood (just a teeny bit more homeless people hanging around than I'm used to) then you should definitely come! But that California burrito was definitely a San Diego thing done better here. We met the owner on our first visit, Junior, he is a friendly, generous & kind man. This is a small, unassuming place, with pretty much only outside seating in its tiny patio. Don't let that fool you; the food here is great. I ordered an adobado burrito with beans and rice added, and my kid decided he wanted to try the carne asada fries instead. I was not expecting the explosion of flavor that hit my tongue the moment I took a bite. Wow! The meat was cooked very well and the bottle of verde salsa they provided combined well with all the ingredients. My kid loved his fries, and I must say that even though I typically don't order that, those were also delicious as well. Service was quick and friendly, so no complaints there. Came to San Diego for 6 days and this was definitely my favorite place!!! The customer service is amazing and the food came out quick. I've tried many taco places and this definitely tops alot of places out in the Bay Area. The adobada tacos were so good I almost ordered 2 more! The carne asada fries were perfect, the fries stayed crispy and they use fries that are like McDonald's fries (which are my favorite). Make sure to ask for the spicy salsa and get a horchata. Was staycationing in downtown and craving a California burrito for dinner. My partner looked up Mexican food in the area and Roxys was the top search. We were surprised by the 5 stars on Yelp and decided to give it a shot. Contrary to some other reviews, we had no issues placing an order through the phone. They gave us an estimate of 15 minutes, so we set out to Roxys right away. It's located right next to the trolley tracks, a pay to park lot, and another lot that's under construction. Street parking was hard to come by as there was a lot of construction. There was street parking a block down, but I didn't feel safe with the homeless tents there. Pick up was a breeze. Service was friendly and fast! We ordered the chimichanga and the Destroyer. It was my partner's first time having a Cali burrito and he fell in love right away. As for me, a native San Diegan, the Destroyer was one of the best -- if not the best Cali burrito I've had. The meat was well seasoned, cooked to where it was a bit crispy, and the tortilla was soft. The chimichanga was good but not comparable to the Destroyer. The salsas were pretty kicking too! I got all of their salsas and my favorite was between the green and the orange ones. Stopped by Roxy's on a lunch break with a coworker one day, so glad we found this restaurant! We were greeted by the super friendly cashier who wanted to get to know us and why we were stopping by. I found this place on yelp when I was looking for a taco spot downtown. It's not often you find 5/5 stars on yelp and Google, so I had to check it out. And I'll cut to the chase-it is 100% 5/5 all around! This is definitely a hidden gem! The staff are wonderful and friendly. Food is cooked to order and still comes out quickly. My go to is the street Carnitas tacos. I've also has the fish Baja taco, beans, & rice. All are absolutely mouth watering. Their salsas are delicious too. (If you have any left over, put in on scrambled eggs - you won't be disappointed!) I've not yet made it to breakfast, but I'm eager to try their chilaquiles. Guys, this weekend I went to a quinceañera that was catered by Roxys. And "OMG" guys, the best mexican food that I have eaten in a long time, baby!! I was between 3 and 4 stars on this spot but since I only tried two of the menu items, I'll give it benefit of the doubt given all the glowing reviews. Ordered the carne asada mini tacos and the fried fish tacos. The carne asada was good -- it was simple and hit the spot, but wasn't particularly memorable. The fish taco I really didn't like. The flavor of the oil overpowered the quality of the main ingredients and tasted almost a little bitter because of that. I liked the woman working the register / serving the food, but overall service here is SO SLOW. We (and everyone who ordered around when we did) waited for almost 30 minutes after ordering for the food to arrive. My friend and I have been struggling to find authentic Mexican food within a couple blocks from our work for sometime now. That's all in the past. Cue Roxy's, flipping our lunch world upside down (in a good way). Everything is made fresh, and with authentic ingredients straight from Tijuana, so you KNOW it's going to be good.
