On 3/15/2013, I visited this location. When I discovered that there was a new Roy Rogers located near my home, I was looking forward to trying it out b/c I remembered how good the food was from when MD had stores in the area when I was growing up. I entered the drive-thru around 10:15 p.m. I was happy to see that the location was still open until 11 p.m. that evening. I sat in the drive-thru for about 15 mins just to make it to the speaker to place my order. There were only 2 cars in front of me before getting the speaker to place my order. The drive-thru was not built very efficiently b/c it's very tight (I could see an accident waiting to happen for a novice driver). Also, the place where the order speaker is located was poorly placed as to how far a person would be from it to place their order depending on how many cars and the size of those cars are in the line ahead of the car trying to place an order. Upon placing the order, I had to shout b/c the drive-thru attendant was annoyed that I couldn't really hear them nor fully see the menu to place my order b/c of where my car was in relation to the speaker. However, I knew I was planning to place an order for a cheeseburger combo and chicken. I was already a bit disappointed by the limited selection of options of meals and ordering options for placing an order for chicken. However, despite everything up to that point and the wait I already had before getting to the far-away speaker, I was then told that they didn't have any chicken left. It was 10:30 p.m. and the store closes at 11 p.m. Why are you out of what's on your menu? Not explanation was given. So, I then placed an order for my cheeseburger combo instead. I asked what came on the burger & the attendant replied "burger, cheese, bun..."---I laughed and said "the condiments please." After waiting another 10 mins or so, I finally get to the drive-thru window and was greeted by "John" who was clearly a Manager. I asked why if he was sure that there wasn't any chicken left. He stated that he had run out of chicken and closed down the fryer at 9:30 p.m. b/c he hadn't expected to sell so much. He then said he had to start back up the fryer b/c so many people were asking for it. However, in saying so, no option was given to me to place an order for the chicken he was then making for other customers. So, I basically lost approx. 45 mins of my life waiting in a drive-thru for a plain cheeseburger that I would then have to take home to prep myself with packaged condiments and items from a very poorly assembled and unappealing "fix-in cup," fries that more so at the bottom of the bag smashed and cold, and a sweet tea that didn't even come with ice. THIS WAS A VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd also like to add that over the last 3 days, additional friend that live in the area have visited this location and each have experience the place not having chicken as well. In a word. SLOW!!! Food is good but service is slow as molasses. I hope they improve on this cause I dont have time stay in a Fast Food line for over 20 minutes. That's not Fast Food. I so badly want this place to succeed. I love Roy's, been going for all 38 years of my life, and was so happy they opened one within 15min of my home. This location is a few months old. Been going since they opened, been probably 3-4 times. The food is fine. Could be hotter, been lukewarm a few times. But the restaurant itself is filthy. My husband is obsessed with their chicken, so when I am in the area, I stop by. I don't mind waiting for fresh chicken, however, there is always about 6-7 teenagers standing around doing nothing but talking to each other. I just want my food and to leave. Why do you need so many people up front ? There seems to be one person per item in my bag. One of fries, someone else making the chicken, measuring the meat. Can I just have my food without the teenage drama? Or have a manager upfront so things run smooth? read more

I've been to this location twice. But my boyfriend frequents the Burtonsville location. Maybe twice a week... And for the love of God, the employees can't ever get his order correct. EVER. It's a number 8 with cheese and a coke. The last 4 times in a row he's had to return bc of an incorrect order. Tonight was especially awful... The sandwich he received had a dried up piece of chicken on it that looked as hard as a hen turd, with some bacon and what I would assume, and hope, was guacamole.. Considering it was chunky and green. Once we drove back to the restaurant, he waited for about 15 minutes for his correct meal. There were 4 other customers returning with wrong orders before him. He swears he won't be going back here or to any other RR again. The employees here are very hit or miss.. I'm curious if they have certain staff for day and night shifts... Because every time we've gone there at night the employees have been especially rude, rolling their eyes and talking with such horrible attitudes. This location has a clean store and good quality food. Some of the staff could use additional training or discipline - they just stand around looking at phones and chatting while there's long lines at the registers. I was so happy to see a new Roy's close to home! (My arteries weren't, but oh well.) The place was very busy on our first visit, but the service was reasonably fast. It was worth the wait, since our burgers were fresh off the grill. They taste more like tavern burgers than fast food. And the good old Fixins Bar lets you customize it. Me, I just drown it in mustard. The dining area was rather messy, but it was 2 PM on a very busy Sunday. Kinda par for the course, I suppose. If you come at a busy time, it's easier to use the Old Columbia Pike entrance to the shopping center. Rte 198 is closer, but Roy's parking lot is quite hectic. It'd take less time to park in another section & walk over. This chain is head & shoulders above most other fast food restaurants (though Five Guys will always be near & dear to my heart, literally as well as figuratively). My wife and I love Roy Rogers and we are a rewards member. But, on Saturday evening (2/3/18) we ordered our usual roast beef. The roast beef is usually thin sliced. Our was thick and very hard to chew. My wife tossed hers sandwich in the trash and was very disappointed. When one on the workers came over to the table and asked how was our meal my wife told him that the roast beef was too thick and she couldn't eat it. The worker acted like he could care less. I frequently visit Roy Rogers but as of 10/7/17, I will no longer be a customer. Drive thru is always slow, unless you're lucky enough to be the only car in drive thru. On this particular day, I was in drive thru for about 15-20 minutes for a double cheeseburger combo with cold fries and tea. I decided to park my car and go inside to ask for some hot fries. The young man (I don't recall his name; the manager would know) took the container of old cold fries and dumped the fries in the trash. After that, he went to the fry station, got about a hand full of those old cold fries and dumped them in the grease for about 5 seconds. He then grabbed a pair of tongs and put those fries in the original container and thought he was going to serve those to me. I confronted him about it, and not in a polite way. After that, of course he proceeded to cook some fresh fries. I asked for a manager and addressed the issue with the manager on duty. She made sure I received hot fries, offered me something else for the inconvenience, and I could even hear her address him about it. However, I am still not satisfied. Cashier reluctant to take our order. Shift manager in kitchen. Several employees standing around, talking. Only one working, the manager. Instead of telling us he had to drop fries, cashier handed us a receipt, no thank you for spending $30+, and left. Dropped fries. Started flirting with a young lady on her break. When fryer timer went off, no one pulled fries. Manager saw us and barked at kid to pull and serve fries. He took a long time. Never did put fries on tray. Realized his mistake and seemed very inconvenienced because he had to bring them to us. Fixins Bar messy, some items low or empty. Service, overall, is either very good, or very bad. Went through the drive thru and got the worst service. I ordered a baked potato roast beef sandwich and a ham and swiss. Well I had to park and go inside because I wasn't given a fork. Then I realize my ham and swiss is a ham and cheddar. So I go back in and a sandwich was remade but had 1 thin slice of ham on it and the cheese was cold of course I had to go back inside because I'm not paying $5 for a sandwich that has no meat and is cold. The manager actually made that and had to remake it and it was still cold. The manager wouldn't even come talk to me about the poor service I was given. I will never return to this place. When we got to the pick up window they said 5 more minutes until the food was done. When we got home we found that they had left an item out of our order as well. After driving by this Roy Rogers for a couple of years, I finally came here one evening. I ended up getting a spicy chicken sandwich as well as a strawberry shortcake. The strawberry shortcake was pretty good & I would definitely get it again if I find myself in another Roy Rogers. On the other hand, the spicy chicken sandwich was good, nothing special, but was kind of on the "too salty" side of the spectrum. But the fixings bar where you could add your own lettuce, onions, tomatoes, pickles, etc on your sandwich was nice unlike in McDonald's, where you may end up with a small leaf of a lettuce on your burger. Contrary to what other reviews have said that the staff is slow in giving your food, I was actually surprised when I got my food within 3 minutes. Traveling down 198 one morning I thought my eyes deceived me was that...yes it is a Roy Rogers! I had to stop and check them out, but I was on my way to work so just gonna go through the drive thru. What chaos have I wrought upon myself! A good 45 minutes later my chicken met me at the drive-thru window. It had been a stressful exchange and based on the dried and frayed texture of the sandwich one that was not exclusive. After waiting 10 minutes watching 1 employee work the drive through another employee notified the manager in his office of the situation (he has a view of the counter). Went to This RR but never got any food. We walked in to nobody at the register. After 5 minutes, someone finally came to the register. When I approached him to give him my order, another employee yelled, "he's not here to serve you!". I apologized (foolishly) and stepped back. They proceeded to yell at each other about the order the employee was ringing up for himself. Apparently, he had no clue what to do while the other employee yelled and berated him for not knowing what to do. Then, the register had an error and a manager had to be called to fix the register. All this time, not one employee said hi, we'll be right with you, we apologize for the wait. Finally, we left followed by everyone who was standing in line after us. This is the worst Roy rogers I've ever been to! I was there for 45 mins waiting for two pieces of dark meat chicken! Ridiculous and Tanesha (one of their star employees ) got an attitude with me when she tried to eat me to take the white meat instead because it was already there. When I told her I would just wait she rolled her eyes and said it would be another twenty minutes (this was after I told the cashier ten minutes prior when I ordered that I wanted dark meat only). Then tanesha decided to yell out to the employees in the back and make a production of it saying "she said she'll wait for the dark meat" about three times while everyone in the restaurant started to look over to see what was going on. This went on then almost 20 minutes went by and tanesha looked at me and said it would be another 15 MINUTES!!!! At that point the nice lady working the window came over and asked me if I wanted a manager seeing as how I had been there almost an hour! I told her yes. The manager came over and somewhat handled the situation with more attitude. He seemed bothered to be called from his back office. He apologized and said there was a miscommunication between the front and back. I had to wait another ten minutes for the chicken. I finally got my meal about 45 minutes after I ordered it. I love the Roy Rogers in Gaitherburg and Germentown even though its a 45 min drive. I live in silver spring and was overly excited to see that a Roy's was coming close by. They started of very busy the wait was entirely to long, which is understandable every body loves this place. Although now that everything slowed down they have had time to improve. There employees are rude and disrespectful. The customer service there is awful. Every time I go there it's something. First time I wait. Strike three...you're out! Today, my third visit to this Roy Rogers location, and for the third time, my order was incorrect and today, incomplete. I took a quick glance at my take out/drive thru bags, was assured everything was there, drove 15 minutes home, only to find that one of the drinks was wrong and my Double R Bar was missing. Because my son had an appointment in the area, I returned 3 hours later to speak with the manager about this third "stirke." The best I was offered was a replacement meal now or during my next visit. My complaint was recorded in a composition book and I was offered an obligatory, "I'm sorry." This is no way to run a business, and I for one, will not give this location a 4th try! read more

I love Roy's fried chicken, fries and Double R burgers. I would come here just for that alone. I wanted to give a shout out to the staff here. They are always friendly and fast which is rare at fast food restaurants these days. The place is sparkling clean and they will replenish drinks fixins bar or condiments if any of those are low. The first time I came here, I ended up waiting for about twenty minutes in the drive through line, which was to be expected as the place had opened just a few days ago. I don't know if they were waiting for the food to cook or something, but all of the employees seemed to be just standing there messing around with each other or sloooowly processing customers. They were rude (no hello, please, thank you, anything) and unprofessional, but I chalked it up to the place being new and not having much time to train them yet. The food was great, so I decided to give it another shot at a later time. The next three times I went over the course of several months, the wait was long, service in the drive through was still awful, and the food was iffy at best. Ordered 1 combo meal with an extra side for my kids. Took almost 7 mins to get. Looked in the bag and it was all incorrect. Handed the bag back and was told it was what we ordered. We we pointed out that it was coleslaw and mashed potatoes instead of baked apples and Mac n chz she told us it was baked apples... and would get our Mac n chz. When she handed the bag back to us, we checked the mashed potatoes to confirm that it was indeed mash potatoes. Handed that back to the women who was clearly irritated with us now. While she went to get the baked apples we checked the meal and it too was not what we had ordered. She handed us the proper items with attitude and no apology for any troubles. Our combo meal was missing the biscuit. When asked, she told us it did not come with one. My husband was very polite and respectful the entire time and was meet with irritation and disrespect.
