This place used to be pretty good, but my recent visit was disappointing. I was in a rush for work, so I grabbed a cheeseburger combo and a couple pieces of chicken. The cheeseburger was decent, but they packed the toppings separately in another container. The lettuce was already browning and soggy, which wasn't very appetizing. The fries were barely warm, almost room temperature, and the chicken was extremely dry... it was honestly hard to finish. I really wish they would serve fresher food, even during off-peak hours. I ordered the Biscuits & Sausage Gravy. Big mistake, this is probably more of a problem in the Roy Rogers Restaurants themselves, so not necessarily this franchise. In any case, I watched them put the dish together and she took a sausage patty, chopped it up and then squeezed it on the dish. The gravy was sitting under a heat lamp and not kept over heat. I refused to pay for or eat that and I cannot believe I witnessed them put this dish together like that. That is not how that dish should be put together and it's disgusting that they did it that way. Do not order that dish at any Roy Rogers if that's the way they serve it. Things have changed since I last raved about the roast beef sandwiches. Those are still more or less the same, which is fine, but they have gotten rid of the holster for the fries(no biggie); most importantly they've gotten rid of almost all health food. The salads are gone, and the parfaits are gone! The salads made a perfect side for the sandwich... I was relying on Roy Rogers, using my Weight Watchers app to have a relatively decent meal with fairly low points. Now that the salad is gone, that becomes impossible, and I'm very disappointed. Food is ok, service is horrible. I got a little bit of everything and for it to be fast food, it was ok. My gold rush chicken sandwich was good bc of the sauce. The chicken was very hard but the bread was nice. Fried chicken tasted the best to me. I love the concept of the fixins bar where you can do unlimited toppings. Mash potatoes tasted standard. I liked the strawberry shortcake. The mushroom burger was so bad I took one bite and threw it away. It had some strange sauce that doesn't go well with the burger or maybe mine was just really bad. Service is just awful. They aren't friendly, they don't really care about you. They just take your order and give you your food and that's about it. Very straight forward and Uninviting. Including the manager who I spoke with directly and she was also not very pleasant. I'll need to try a different location bc I'll never go back here. read more

I never would have thought my 1st Yelp review for 2022 would be a fast food chain lol. My guy and I were out doing errands and he randomly said he had the taste for Roy Rogers. I haven't ate there in 20+ years. Not due to the taste or bad experience, but due to the lack of locations in MD. I was open to trying it again so found the closest to me was Burtonsville. I come to this shopping area for a couple other stores but never really paid attention to RR. We both ordered the 2 piece wing meal with 1 side and drink. I opted for mash potatoes and he chose fries. I also explored the dessert menu which I rarely do when eating out but couldn't resist on trying the strawberry shortcake. I don't know many fast food chains with that kind of dessert option so I went for it. Chicken was nice & crispy, not overly fried or greasy. The sides were good and we enjoyed the dessert. It was a good change to try another chicken chain over the popularized orange one. I don't eat fast food often but when I do, I'll be sure to come back to RR again. read more

Feeling under the weather and craving a quick homely style breakfast after leaving the Urgent Care. I checked out there menu and prices online which looked descent so I decided to give a try for the first time ever. I had the scrambled egg platter which consisted of scrambled eggs, choice of meat (I had bacon), breakfast potatoes, and a biscuit all for $5.19. It was a bit better than anticipated and satisfied my craving. Everything was hot, fresh and tasty. The bacon had the perfect crisp not too hard or soft. Only draw back and reason for minus a star the eggs were "the mix" no hard shell option and the biscuit was a bit too hard. Drive thru was super fast and customer service was friendly by both the staff members I interacted with. I would recommend giving it a try and look forward to coming again. The sliders were so hard from maybe being reheated. Update- Again, I'm not a huge fan of fast food but I do enjoy Roy Roger's in occasion. This visit I came in and I tried thier version of Arbys Beef n Cheddar the Smokey Beef n Cheese. Major disappointment, it was simply a regular roast beef sandwich with what I call, they buttered on side of the roll with a cheese sauce to where it was pretty much non existent. It's been a little over a year since I visited this location. Last time I went to the drive-thru and had middling results. This time we went inside. It was around 1:30 in the afternoon so the lunch hour seemed to have been finished. Service was good. Restaurant looked reasonably clean. No dirty tables etc. Bathroom was decent. The "fixin's bar" if that's what it's called was well stocked and clean. I got the large roast beef and cheese which was very good but I am wondering if I could get a tiny little cup of the au jus on the side. I'll have to ask next time. French fries were okay but they are definitely not the same as Roy Rogers used to make years ago. I don't know what happened because they were once excellent. I ordered a biscuit also. I've enjoyed Roy Rogers cuisine ever since it was called Pappy Parker's fried chicken or Jr. Hot Shoppes. Thanks to the poor service and management of its Burtonsville location, I don't stop for food there any more. When it's too critical for them to forget to include biscuits, or when I've have to wait because they didn't have the chicken pieces I ordered cooked, I can be forgiving and give them another chance. However, when the staff wanted to leave early one night, they committed their final error with me. I walked in the restaurant, was greeted by staff, and approached the register while scanning the menu. The cashier walked up to her register and announced the restaurant was closed. I checked the bin (there was food there), I checked the condiments (they were still out, ready to be used), and I checked the time (it was 9:38 pm). I looked back at her and calmly said, "OK," and walked out. I ordered a pancake combo with sausage. When I got home and looked at my pancakes I saw that they was thin a crepes. One side was raw still. I went back to get another order. One of the employees told me that that is how pancakes are. I told her that is was unacceptable and inedible. How do you serve someone this if you don't want it yourself. She told the cook to make another order and it came out even worse than the first order I got. She told me again this is good and that how they are cook. Another employee came over and said that tbis is not acceptable and told thr manager. They took the cook out and someone else made thr pancakes. The pancakes look fluffier and cooked. When I got home and cut in to the pancake it was not even cooked all the way through. I would never come back here again having to deal with this kind of service. Only time I go to Roy's is when I'm craving sweets. I always get the Strawberry shortcake which I definitely recommend! Sometimes, you have bad days and I understand that. But today I had to chat with Tina of the drive through. Her Customer service. Needs major improvements. She was extremely short and there was no one in line but me. I had a couple questions about the food and she seemed HIGHLY annoyed. She asked me if that was all when I was still deciding and I said umm..still checking. Then she said sharply please drive around. I said of wait I'm sorry I wasn't done with my order. She said I thought you said you were done. I added to my order and she said OK. Then I asked for the total and it was silent. I said I'm sorry are you in a hurry? I didn't hear the total so she repeated back in a slightly better voice but definitely still undertones of being annoyed what my total order. When I came around to greet her at the window and give her my card she did not bend down to speak to me she spoke to me from the top of the window through the glass with the open window showing her torso which is very bizarre. I said to her I understand it's hard to hear sometimes on the intercom but you sound extremely short and annoyed. She said I'm sorry that's not how I meant to sound but in a very patronizing tone. When I got my food again she talked from above the glass with her torso in the full window. I said to her in needed jelly. She got me the flavor I needed. When I was leaving I said thank you Tina I hope your day gets better. She said very sharply "My day is just fine" and did an about face from the window. So again I love the food the customer service sucks. I LOVE Roy's because of the freshness, etc. But could do without the attitudes. Been to the Burtonsville Roy Rogers on a few occasions as it's conveniently located off US 29 if I have work travel, and I want to grab a quick bite to eat. One time a couple of years ago, 2 friends & I went there (per my suggestion) for dinner after mini golf at Rocky Gorge (I will give 2-stars next on that). I always get the roast beef sandwich, fries, & drink. The roast beef sandwich is excellent (way better than that fake roast beef at Arby's). The fries are good especially when the various condiments you can get like the BBQ sauce, boom-boom, mayo, & of course ketchup & mustard (both not my thing). I always get the sweet tea, which is pretty solid. One time I went all out on unhealthiness and got the fried chicken. Omg...I love their fried chicken and the biscuit is a great addition to this unhealthy delight. They are relatively friendly at this location as well. Roast Beef Combo, subbed coleslaw for the fries. Coleslaw was crunchy but lacked any interesting taste. Onions on the fixin' bar were soggy. I've been a customer of this location since 2014, but as of last week I can no longer patronize this location. Over the years I've watched the quality of service and food decline as more poor trained employees are hired. This includes management, in particular the evening shift managers who frequently have attitude and fail to hold their staffs accountable. Two weeks ago I drove to the location at 6pm for chicken. To my disappointment they had no chicken. How can you be a restaurant known for chicken but have no chicken? I complained to the Mary (who's always helpful) and she offered me a gift card for my inconvenience. A week later, i went to redeem the give card and the manager (not Mary) told me she had no chicken and then told me I was a problem for requesting something they didn't have. I've spent thousands of dollars at this store but I will not tolerate being treated like crap when I'm the customer. I decided to pick up dinner last night from here, I'm not too sure what time they open but they currently close at 9pm (COVID-19). I ordered 2 bacon cheeseburgers and 1 fry. The total came up to about $15. Which was a little pricey as the food was definitely not shake shack or five guys quality. I went through drive through (around 8pm on thurs 4/30) and had a great experience, the young girl at the window was super polite and friendly. I wish i got her name. My food was pretty good, the burger was a bit dry. But once i added some extra extra condiments it masked it, the fries were delicious. There's parking available at a lot nearby. The bread they use for the burgers are pretty good as well. I actually appreciate that the burgers don't come with lettuce and veggies so i can warm it up and put my fixings in after incase i want to eat it later. P.S. don't forget to get fixings cups (lettuce, tomato, pickles) and condiments because the burgers come plain. read more

I threw the whole drink away. I normally go to the location in Rockville as it is close to my work. This one was not as good as the Rockville location. Fries were not crispy or cooked completely. Seems nothing ever improves at this Burtonsville, MD location. They added a kiosk to replace an employee and it was less than helpful. After being asked to step through the line of people wanting to place an order we used the new kiosk. This is not well placed as people stand in the way waiting on an actual staff member. Once our order was placed no one knows where the order goes. It never showed up on their printer to fill the order. We waited and watched as a half dozen or more people that ordered with a staff member was served their food. We had to ask where our order was. Thankfully we had the kiosk print a receipt otherwise they would never had known to make our order. At least from our printed receipt they filled our order. Though they bagged it to go even though our receipt clearly says Dine In. There are very few happy and helpful staff at this location. Sadly this isn't the first time I have had to report crappy service here. I wish I did not but management never seems to address concerns. I only offered two stars because at least the food had decent taste. They really need to staff this place better with a few caring staff members. read more

I figured since I was kinda in the area that I would see if it was the same RR as I grew up eating. I arrived in RR and ordered the fried chicken meal with a strawberry shake. The fried chicken meal came with fries and a biscuit. The had the same great flavor that I was used too. I love RR's shakes as they use ice cream and real strawberries...soooo good. The staff was very efficient in executing my order. The restaurant was very clean. Although the prices are a little more than expected...it's in line with other fast food places in the area.
