The food is so bad , the rice is watery and whole dish is watery, no flavor they got duck from Chinese grocery stop that's premade and put like one or two slices in the dish , and put some overnight onion on the plate . Excellent Pad Thai that's not too greasy. My wife says it's the best she's had since we lived in Bangkok. Also tried the choo chee pla muk (red curry squid with bamboo shoots). We've lived in Moraga for 15 years, and there is virtually NOWHERE to eat..I'm tired of driving all the way to orinda, Lafayette, or Walnut Creek...then my wife suggested Royal Siam, and I'm like "hell yeah!" We just had a take out order for 3. It was a simple order. Rice noodles w chicken, and beef. Unfortunately the food quality was substandard. However that was not the main issue. After paying $50 all 3 of us were still hungry. The portions are very very small. I am not sure how expensive noodles are. The take out plastic container were only full about 30%. You could easily place all 3 orders in one container. I place each order on dinner plates and it did nit really fill out the plate. My request is for the owners to be a bit more generous with their portion. It is not a good experience to still have your family go to bed hungry after dining your food. I just ordered $70 worth of takeout from Royal Siam and I am actually horrified at how small the portions are. I ordered green curry, pad see ew, and chicken over spinach with peanut sauce for my family of four. That would be plenty from any other Thai place, but these portions are half of what you get anywhere else. It is unbelievable. The curry comes in a half pint, which is literally half of a normal order. The pad see ew is maybe enough for two of us to have a serving, I guess I'll go without since it's my kids fave. The chicken over spinach would be laughable if I wasn't so pissed. It literally was 8 bite sized pieces of chicken over a takeout container of spinach.... what? I am so upset that I just spent $70 for dinner for my family and got $30 worth. Never again. read more

Similar to others reviews, Moraga is a small town where your food options are very limited especially authentic cultural food. Royal Siam can be a geat location to have a lunch with your boss and co-workers or just to grab a quick bite to eat. What I really enjoy about this restaurant is that it is very much an upscale sit-down Thai restaurant but is affordable and reasonably priced. I usually order a Pad Thai J and iced tea. During lunch hours it can get full but the wait is never too long. It is delicious and I would recommend to anyone! read more

An occasional hair, a bug, a dirty dish or utensil. If it happens once in a long while, I am totally willing to forgive. But, when the waitress spoke with the owner about what they should do about my food and bill, she came back to me and said the owner said just to take 50% off my meal. What the hell??? That's how you make up for it??? Are you for real, lady? I said "Why should I pay for food that has ants in it? That's pretty gross." And the waitress said "I'm sorry. I have no say." She went back to the kitchen to, I guess, talk to the owner again. The owner came out to the little hallway, looked at me, turned around and went back into the kitchen. Then, the waitress came back and said "I'm sorry. She said 'no'. Just pay half only." I just rolled my eyes, paid the bill, left no tip, and stomped out the door. This is the best Thai food place I know. I've eaten here since I was a kid growing up till now. It's been almost 20 years and I haven't found a better place than this. Must-eats are their pineapple fried rice, satay chicken, yellow curry, and mango sticky rice. I also love their white chips with sauce they serve for free. Not the best Thai food by any means, but this place is decent. It can be pricey, but you're in Moraga, what do you expect. No one dish has ever stood out to me as being exceptional, but the food here is tasty. The Duck Curry is pretty good, not too spicy and filled with delicious duck meat and veggies. They also have good Pad Thai. I just returned from Royal Siam, after ordering and waiting. We've been there several times in the past, and have always appreciated their food, and especially their service. Tonight was a grave exception. Tonight, someone I had never seen before was working the phone and register. I arrived to the restaurant and was greeted by said employee nicely enough, but when I was ordering from the menu at the counter, she needed it for reference and simply said, "give me the menu". I handed it to her, paid my tab, and took a seat to wait the (15 minutes, so she said) for my order. I was soon joined by other people waiting for take-out, whom were provided their orders before I was. When I inquired about my order to the same person, she said (snottily), "wait!" (Maybe I imagined her hand up, but according to her attitude and tone, it should have been). Surprised, I said, "wow", and sat back down. Another very lovely girl was there waiting on tables and setting out the orders, and she apologized to me for the long wait, and said she'd go see what the hold up was with my order, and returned telling me the cooks were packing it right then. Snotty girl at desk, I think, by this point, realized she was being inconsiderate, and tried to apologize, but by then, I was over it. Needless to say, the promised wait time of 15 minutes was doubled (proven by my receipt), and for forty bucks, I left feeling that an already bad day was made worse by going to Royal Siam. Thanks for that, Royal Siam. I won't be back soon ________________________________________________________________________ And wait, there's more! My son just took a bite of the green curry (recommended for kids by snotty girl because it was so mild), and it's way too hot for kids. I asked specifically for mild, for kids. Good place to come for lunch. Decent price for the lunch combinations which come with plenty of food. I always get the Combination A (chicken satay and red curry, though you have your choice of red, yellow, or green curry and choice of meat). The dish comes with 2 skewers of chicken, a large helping of red curry chicken and veggies, a small pickled cucumber salad, and a serving of steamed rice. The chicken satay are cooked nicely and taste great with the peanut sauce. I enjoy the red curry here, but the strips of chicken they use tend to be a bit dry. The service here is good and quick. The place doesn't get terribly crowded. I haven't actually tried anything other dishes here, so I can't be responsible if you're feeling adventurous and want to deviate from the solid Combination A lunch special! read more

The only Thai restaurant in Moraga! but at least its satisfying! The usual small portions at Thai restaurants. Their red curry here is better than most I've tried. Pad Thai is sweet and hit the spot. They have a nice vegetarian selection if you're vegetarian. Prices are average. Lunch was around 8 to 9 dollars. Dinner selections are around 10. Last night I got the Royal lamb and it was amazing. The meat was just so tasty. Seasoned so well, was very pleased :) My meals at royal siam are always very satisfying. HORRIFIC service. I have been ordering there for years and I'm deathly ill and called for soup and wanted to pay with credit card but they do not take u til pickup. I explained my son was getting it and not sure he has cash. " i will call and dbl check and call u right back" So I did ONE minute later and she told me there were closed. I said my son is next door and can pick up, it's only been a minute and I explained how sick I was. She refused. They don't reopen until after 4 pm. I will NEVER go there or order from there again. This is the vegetarian pad thai. There is a huge vegetarian section at this place. If you a vegetarian that needs protein there are plenty of seafood dishes too. Their pad thai is great, though watch out, it is a bit greasy. dont worry carnivores there is plenty around for you too. my boyfreind always gets the royal lamb and he loves it. It is perfectly cooked everytime and plenty flavorful. service: I admittedly like their lunch service better than their dinner serivce. The waitress at lunch is super sweet, though the waiter at dinner does have better english. They always surprise me by giving us freebies. At lunch you get salad and at dinner you get these crispy chip like things with a sweet sauce. I enjoy both but some people I've dined with dont like those crisp chip things. I wonder why I haven't reviewed this place yet. I come here all the time, and I take stuff to go too. I'll be honest with you -- I've only gotten one thing here, and it's been BOMB. Every single time. Let me tell you why. The Pad See Ew *with duck* (you have to get the duck. Nothing else will suffice!) is the best I've ever had, and I'm from SF, where there are tons and tons of Thai restaurants. One of my favorite things to eat of all time is duck, and they do NOT skimp. Yes, it'll probably be on the pricier side if you get the duck, but it is worth it. Drool. Another thing is the sauce. I've had Pad See Ew that's way too sweet or salty, but they make it perfect here! It's a pretty balanced dish with plenty of broccoli and carrots. I usually don't even like carrots but I love these because they're flavored so well. If you eat in, which I recommend (there's great service here. Staff are always polite and happy to see me), ask for "extra spices on the side". They'll give you these 4 little pots full of different kids of spices. Use the dry, red one on your Pad See Ew!! Very good food. Quickly prepared and attentive service, we would definitely return. Plenty of meat included, and a tasty tofu pahd thai for our vegetarian son (which can be hard to do). Priced a bit high, but fresh ingredients, portions that were sufficient, and all dishes were very tasty. We shared and everyone gushed about which to select as best because we each believed that dishes sampled were better than the last, all being above average. We will return asap. read more

Considering Moraga isn't the wonderland for good food, this place is decent. The prices are more than what I'd pay for given the quality. (Ten bucks for tofu pad see ew? I'd pay $7 at most here.) Their pad thai is pretty good but nothing spectacular. (Again, I don't expect much from Moraga.) I tried their duck pad see ew a while ago, and it was really flavorful. However, that $10 tofu pad see ew I ordered to-go last week was not only extremely greasy, but flavorless. My lips literally felt like I put on half a tube of chapstick. A decent place when you're in a pinch but if you're willing, go to Thai Basil in Berkeley or Kacha in Walnut Creek. read more

The woman who owns this place is absolutely delightful. The service is good/attentive and the food, once you've honed in on something they're really good at, is very good. I recommend the crispy rice salad, Thai toast, the Siamese chicken rolls, and the gai yang. We recently rediscovered this little gem of a Thai restaurant in Moraga, and have been going back regularly since! Love the food, which is always fresh and flavourful, and the staff are always so friendly and accommodating. We have a few "go-to" dishes - the Chicken Satay, Spicy Fried Tofu, Tom Yum Soup, Eggplant with Tofu and the Spicy Tilapia Fillets! In a small white town you can't really expect to find the best Asian food. In this case, that statement stands. The restaurant is very small but the decor is nice. The service was good and they were attentive to our water needs. I ordered the Pad see eww and it was okay just a little greasy. I go to school at St. Mary's and there aren't many options around for us college kids so if you are craving Thai food and you don't' want to stray far from campus, this is a fine place to come. Okay...so there aren't many Thai restaurants in the Lamorinda area. Actually, I only know of 2 - and I come here when I feel to lazy to go to the city. I think this place deserves a 3.5 stars, if there was such an option. The food tastes good, but is salty and oily in general. At least for the Royal lamb...and the the duck Pad Thai and...etc. I like their soup very much. The Thai iced tea is a bit sweeter than I am used to. The customer service is pretty good.
