Tried this place a few weeks ago. Me and a friend were craving Thai food so since this was sort of close to where we were, we decided to give it a try. I got the chicken pad thai. It was not that good. They barely gave me much, and the noodles were too chewy to eat. Also had the crispy wings. Those were good! Totally forgot what my friend had so I can't give input on her meal. Had it been Siamese, we'd get a rushed waitress who can never fully articulate what is in their dishes. If you don't need or care for a dimly lit atmosphere, come here to enjoy Thai food that is just as great as any other Thai restaurants in the area. This restaurant has a casual setting with a decorated interior. For people short on time, carry out orders only take about 10 minutes. Folks who are trying Thai curry for the first time, should try the green curry with any choice of protein. The aroma of the broth is milder than red or Panang curry. Yellow curry is an option for first-try too. I just think yellow does not have the kick I look for in Thai curries. I hardly ever see anyone order yellow. Most of the curries are on the sweeter side here, but always delicious and very filling. They offer many common types of curries and you can customize the ingredients in your curry to your liking. My all time favorite is Panang curry with either chicken or pork. I love green curry, too, but I prefer the rich and intense flavor of Panang. Panang is like red curry with a richer and creamier base. It is a tad bit spicier than green curry. I recall the waitress mentioning that Panang has peanuts, that is why the broth is creamy. If you have peanut allergy, you should ask. Many Thai dishes contain peanuts and it may be hidden within the sauce or broth. If you are not concerned with food allergies then you can slide through the menu. Pad Thai is the most popular, most ordered dish at most Thai restaurants...Well, at least that's what it seems like. Can we really talk about Thai food without bringing up Pad Thai? At Royal Siam, the portion for Pad Thai is generous. No matter what protein you choose, they will include fried tofu. You cannot go wrong with this dish along with a tall cup of freshly brewed iced Thai tea. The price range is about $8-13 per dish during lunch; add about $2 for the same dish during dinner. Absolutely LOOOVE this place! Being a UoP student, I was getting pretty tired of going to Siamese Street to always get my thai food fix and decided to try this place out. I noticed the sign after driving by and realizing that it replaced Lozano's. My friend and I came in around 7 pm and were able to be seated immediately. They really did a great job redo-ing the decor. I ended up getting the papaya salad and my friend got the drunken noodles. Their menu was clean and diverse with many options! (Definitely check out the desserts, they have sooo many options!) My papaya salad was really good and well proportioned and my friend really liked her drunken noodles. We both felt that this place definitely had a more authentic Thai feel in comparison to Siamese Street. Our waitress was super attentive and nice and always asking how we were doing (but not overdoing it like some people do). I really liked her! She was super sweet. Let me preface by saying I've lived in Thailand for some time, my wife is Thai and my baby was born in Bangkok. But I'm just a white guy who loves Thai food! We were traveling up Hwy 5 and my wife checked her Yelp app on her iPhone for a good Thai place to eat in Stockton. Royal Thai came up with lots of good reviews, so we thought we'd give it a try. We got there about 3pm, so we knew it would likely be empty and not have to wait. The thing about Stockton is that there's not really much culture there outside of the usual ethnic groups that you most often see. Its great to see a Thai place in a city not heavily cultured in southeast Asian cuisine. Our first impression of this restaurant was that it was large and the kitchen (seen from the dining room) was practically new. And there was a Thai man cooking, so we knew we would be enjoying the food! (Thai men can cook and we found out later it was the owner's brother). Since you'll find mostly outdoor kitchens in Thailand (because of the fish sauces and humidity) it was like Thailand in the sense that you can see the kitchen. We were greeted at the door by a friendly Asian gal and she sat us down. She was so friendly and it was a welcoming feeling. She always had a big smile (Land of Smiles!) and waited on us to perfection. My wife spoke Thai with the owner and they connected and shared stories. Nothing like hearing the melancholy sounds of their tonal language while eating great Thai food!!! We ordered so much food since we were famished. I judge most Thai restaurants by their Pad See Ew Kai. They prepared one of the best tasting I've had since I had some in Khao Lak, Thailand. I also ordered their Seafood Combo Sweet & Sour. Folks...you'll love this dish! Not overbearing on the sauce and the squid was cooked perfectly! The shrimp popped from its tail with a slight squeeze and the fried fish was moist and savory. Couldn't have been better! My wife had some Thai salad, spicey as you can get without burning a hole in the plate. Our 3-year-old daughter shared my dishes. All in all, the place was a great meal. Nothing to complain about. We also shared the mango with sticky rice dessert. Oh...and the mango was sooooo sweet. Just like Thailand. Most places get their mangoes from Mexico and they are never as sweet as Asian mango. We also had Thai iced tea. Perfect. I would have to say that we walked out of there about 30 pounds heavier, but enjoyed every bite. Made the rest of our road trip that more enjoyable! This is my go to spot for Thai. Possibly because it's close to work (lol), but everything is also really tasty. I've had the pad Thai, pad kee mao, tom yum soup, and yellow curry. All of which were delicious! I love that they let you choose different spice levels, and they have this little assorted tray with chili, peppers, fish sauce???, and this spicy powder. Not too sure what everything is because I just use the chili paste. Thai tea is standard, but my favorite is the Thai coffee with extra cream! Oh and if your looking for an appetizer the fried squid is always a good choice. The sauce is my favorite part!! Service is always good and attentive. I came to this place on a whim as my apartment and I craved Thai food. The most notable Thai place in Stockton would be Siamese Street but I wanted to give this place a try. My GF called in to-go and there was no language barrier at all compared to most Asian places. The food was ready in 10 minutes and the customer service was great. The waitress checked us out in a few minutes and offered us their chili condiments. My apartment mate ordered Pad Thai while my GF ordered the Drunken Noodles and I ordered the Green Chicken Curry. The downside to the curry is that rice costs extra but luckily I was eating at home so I just made a quick bowl of rice to go with the curry. My GF and apartment mate both enjoyed their dishes but my GF and I agreed that the curry was awesome. There were so many ingredients which included peppers, bamboo shoots, eggplant, and chicken breast. The chicken breast meat was not dry and I was shocked by how much curry they gave me. It lasted a big guy like me two meals. Overall, I was very satisfied with this restaurant and am glad to say I found a cheaper alternative to Siamese Street. The major con that I can think of is that when exiting their parking lot, you're forced to make a right so it's not the best place to get in and out of. read more

I would give this restaurant a 3.5 stars. I came in on a Saturday night right thirty minutes before closing, and my date and I ended being the last customers there. I ordered the chicken pad thai and he ordered the green curry. Man, I was so upset by my pad thai by how mediocre it was! I got it with medium spice, and I felt like it wasn't spicy at all. Plus, I think I prefer sweeter pad thai, so I guess this wasn't up my alley. But, the green curry that my date got was DELICIOUS. It was super creamy, with a lot of vegetables (I'm into that). It was also super hot (temperature-wise), which I appreciate a lot because I hate it when I'm halfway through a meal and my curry's all lukewarm. After that, we got the mango and sticky rice, which was amazing! This was my first time trying the dessert, and we only had half of mango, but I'm seeing these pictures and other people have two halves....? Hmmmm... Other than the pad thai, the food here was really good. The ambiance was cool and the restaurant is pretty big. I would probably say this is the best thai restaurant in stockton. Granted, some people would say that siamese is better than here. I've had pad thai from different restaurants around the area, and no one seems to make it right. but i think royal siam is the closest to authentic in stockton. I've never eaten in the restaurant so i can't really comment on their service. i ordered take out from royal yesterday from a long day at napa. from the two hour drive, all i wanted was a nice warm thai food. i called 15 minutes before arriving and the food was ready to go when i pulled up to the parking lot! as mentioned, royal siam is located in a sketchy plaza, so be careful - i'd recommend coming here with someone even if you're getting take out. the pad see ew is probably better than their pad thai - i would recommend getting this with beef. their pad thai tastes great with chicken (although ive never tried any other meat with my pad thai). apparently they add spices onto their pad thai so when you're ordering on the phone, they'll ask you for your spice preference. For dessert, my favorite thai dessert would be the mango sticky rice. it's an easy dish to make and hard to mess up. the only comment i have is the mango pieces they give can be a little stingy. Royal Siam is my number #1 choice for thai food in Stockton. Other places can not measure up as well. Thai me up for example tries too hard to be upscale and I think the food is just a notch above Siamese Street. The food was delicious. One issue I have with most thai places is getting the spiciness of my dish to the perfect level, but this wasn't an issue for them. I do feel like there wasn't very much chicken in my dish though. Maybe it was a one time thing, but it felt sparse on meat. I really liked the service. Our waitress was very friendly and funny. There were a few people here for lunch so it was not loud at all. We sat along the wall and those pillows to support your back were great! The food here was good. Calamari $7.95 small portions of average calamari with a thick sweet and sour and honey sauce. 2.5/5 chicken red curry lots of bamboo shoots in a somewhat flavorful curry but its noticeably watery. Ive had better 3/5 Basil beef stir fry I think this would go better with noodles but it kinda needs more basil flavor. If I come back Ill ask to add noodles to this dish. The flavor is better than the basil noodles at siamese minus the noodles. 3.25/5 Service 4.5/5 Refilled water every 5 mins or so. Lime available upon request. Very attentive ... almost too much attention. Overall very similar to siamese street with less people but better service. We've all been told to never judge a book by it's cover and the same adage can be said for Royal Siam. Super ghetto on the outside but intimate and classy on the inside. As I walked in, I instantly knew I was in for a treat! Lunch Specials are from 11AM to 3PM from Monday to Friday. And all dishes are $6.95 or $7.95. I ordered the Drunken Noodles and it comes with stir fried noodles, onions, bell peppers, basil and seasoned with chili. It was delicious and comes with a small salad that I wish came with dressing. My boyfriend ordered the Pad Thai that comes with stir fried noodles, tofu, green onion, eggs, bean sprouts and topped off with peanuts. It's a little fishier than the Pad Thai than Siamese Street but still really tasty. Service was pretty quick and Royal Siam is a great new place for lunch. This place is totally underrated. It is in a sketch part of town but the inside is nice. Everything is spaced well and always looks clean. I tried their pork fried rice and it was really goood! I am definitely getting that again next time. Their pad see eiw is pretty average. With some of the sauce from their cute sauce platter thing, it'll be great. I have been on a Tom yum soup hunt and also tried their Tom yum soup. It was good but not great. My family and I have got to be some of their best customers lol. We order at least twice a month & spend around $100-$150 on the same order, sometimes more depending on who we have over. They have the best Papaya salad in stockton, in fact their papaya salad (Thai spicy ) is why we crave this particular Thai spot, it's addicting, and I've eaten at every single Thai spot in Stockton and most of the Thai spots in Sac, once we ate here we never went anywhere else, their pad Thai is also amazing and peanut chicken. This place is AH-MAZING! My hubby and I haven't had good Thai food in such a long time since moving out this way from the Bay Area. They have a variety of different entrees to chose from and it was so hard to decide what to order Both my hubby and I decided to start off with the crab ragoons and fried calamari appetizers which were crisped to perfection along with the dipping sauce which I can say it was my highlight of out dine in experience. For the main course we both decided to order the Tom Kha which was super delightful. The Tom kha had such a great taste and the rich flavors of the coconut and spices were exquisite. My friend had a pad thai..the portions are fairly big for the price, but she kept poking at it, so didn't seem like she liked it. The place is really quiet, but I suppose it's ok.
