Bench seating for adults and floor rug seating for the kiddos. Great comedy for adults to enjoy, storytelling for the kids to engage in. Open air with covered tent. Performers are awesome musician is amazing you'll want to visit for the different showtimes. Check the schedule posted at the front. The Royal theatre is a small theatre for live shows thats great for kids. As of April 2025, I believe it rotates between Tangled and Beauty and the Beast. Not sure if there are other shows. This last one we saw was Beauty and the Beast. We've seen both shows and they are very entertaining. The comedy is for everyone and although, not really a musical, they do sing. When its busy you do have to get in early to get front seats and floor space for the kids. read more

When you are hot and tired at the park and you want to watch a fun show, the Royal Theatre is a place to stop by. A theatre play of your favorite fairy tale story. Located by the west side of the Sleeping Beauty's castle, a small intimate area with a stage and piano. Listing of shows and time are located at the entrance. Usually there are two stories per day. Plan accordingly. The re-enactment of the story is quite fun and audience of all ages can enjoy. Great seating for the little ones close to the stage. Would recommend visiting with some snacks and refreshments. Get there earlier before the show for best seats. read more

Disneyland's Royal Theatre is an open-air tent that holds little plays for everyone to enjoy. On our two most recent visits to the Disneyland Park we were able to catch two shows of "Tangled" featuring Rapunzel and Eugene (Flynn Rider). And who can forget the evil Mother Gothel. I felt that the show was well done highlighting all of the memorable moments from the storyline, so the actors and actresses alone deserve five stars. The low rating is for the way the ushers handled the crowd once the show ended. Once we stepped out of the tent and turned around, we had noticed that Rapunzel had come out in the front from the side of the stage to greet the guests who were fortunate to still be slowly exiting the theater. My daughter wanted to meet her as well, so we had asked the usher if we could step back in to meet her, but were told that we couldn't enter once we had exited. We had just exited and were maybe three steps out the of the theater. That is ridiculous. Instead we were told to go to the part of Fantasyland near the King Arthur's Carousel and Dumbo ride and wait in line for her at her tower. So we immediately dashed across the park to her tower to only find that the wait would be another forty-five minutes. So we waited. Fifteen minutes into our wait they closed off the back of the line saying that Rapunzel needed to head back to do her next show. When we finally made it in to "meet" Rapunzel, she looked rather frazzled and annoyed forcing a quick smile for the cameras with our daughter, not even engaging with us. First off, we had just come from the show and this Rapunzel looked nothing like the "Rapunzel" character in the show. Second, why doesn't Disney hire another girl to play Rapunzel so the girls don't have to rush back and forth and be so grumpy?! A not so happy experience in supposedly the happiest place on earth. read more

Date of visit: August 21, 2016 In our quest to ride/watch every attraction at Disneyland/DCA, we realized we hadn't been to the Royal Theatre yet! As it was the afternoon, we got there in time to watch the second showing of Tangled as told by storytellers Mr. Smythe and Mr. Jones and with the help of Rapunzel and Flynn/Eugene. (Beauty and the Beast is in the mornings.) The cast members do a pretty good job of retelling the movies through song and comedy with the assistance of props. For a one hour show, this wasn't too bad! It's an outdoor theater, though, so get here early for prime seating (we were seated at the back), and on occasional evenings, the Royal Theatre becomes a big band stage, complete with swing dancing. Definitely worth stopping by to see at night before the fireworks. read more

Came here for the first time after many years of going to Disneyland. Never really had any desire to come here until this past weekend, since we are AP pass holders and want to make an effort to go to every attraction at least once within the 1 year of our pass. :) Sat in the very front, in the section where kids are allowed to sit on round colored rugs. Parents are allowed to sit with them once the attendants give you the "OK". We saw the Beauty and the Beast show, with Belle as the main actress! If you stay at the end of the show, and wait around, Belle will come out to take photos and do autographs. read more

One day during our winter break, we were at Disneyland from 830am until 1030pm. Unlike every other time I'd visited, I did not set foot in Tomorrowland or ride any roller coasters. Instead I was chasing down princesses with my daughter. Going to Disneyland as a parent for the first time provides an entirely different perspective. It's less about running around the park, checking off things to do, and much more about watching your kid's eyes light up as storybook characters come to life. While my wife was staking out a patch of sidewalk for the parade, my daughter and I walked around Fantasyland. We saw Belle and ran straight over to the line that had formed next to her. I couldn't believe our luck, my daughter was actually wearing her Beauty and the Beast shirt. Unfortunately, well before we got to the front of the line, she left, to be replaced by Merida. We talked to the royal attendant and he told us that if we came back to watch the Beauty and the Beast show at the Royal Theater, Bell might come out to meet guests afterwards. So we watched the parade (Elsa and Anna made an appearance!) and hurried back to get seats. The show was surprisingly entertaining, even for parents - it's basically two energetic, silly guys and a princess telling a story with some fun props and an occasional pop culture reference. It was a pleasant break from the crowds and the craziness. As the show ended, we stayed inside the theater. Finally Belle returned and we got a cute photo with her, along with her autograph. It definitely made me feel accomplished as a dad. read more

I took my niece here since she wanted to see dancing & a princess. We came as they were about to start the Tangled show. She doesn't know the story of Rapunzel so I was a bit nervous, but she still loved it! The actors did a great job of entertaining the kids & summing up the entire film in a very short amount of time. They even sprinkled in a few things here & there for the kids. Only problem would be the small seating. On a busy day, if you show up last minute, you might not find anything available. Especially in the carpet area up front for the kids. read more

These little productions aren't your normal Disney shows. They are more tailored to the adults while still entertaining the kiddos. I favor beauty and the beast over tangled. More than likely because i know more of the story plot for beauty and the beast. I do wish the princesses would sing there own song instead of the guys. I would put one of these shows on your list of must dos for your trip into Disneyland. Arrive at least 15-20 min early to get a good spot. It's awesome that the kiddos get to sit on the circled carpet in front of the stage. You must stay and not leave to be able to get to meet the princess of the show, they are back in the theater within five minutes for photo opportunities. The fair maidens are amazing! read more

Great storybook shows! Think of it as a fast forward version of the movies. Beauty and the Beast was the first show I watched here and I really enjoyed it. Singing and comedy all mixed into one. Frozen was just as good. Same singers and piano player that performed for Beauty, performed Frozen. The costume changes are crazy! I do not know how the can pull this off so perfectly. Now you have to get a fastpass ticket in order to sit inside to watch the show. The ticket booth is located right in front of the castle by the Walt statue is. Awesome and fun! read more

Located in the new Princess Fantasy Faire, the Royal Theatre features two different shows - Tangled and Beauty and the Beast - in a pink/purple-tented theater. It's a great addition that little girls and their parents will love. SEATING: The theater itself is fairly small with rugs in the front for kids (and parents) and benches in the back, so you'll want to arrive early to get inside. Given the open tent format, standing room only space is available outside the theather. Beware of the inconsiderate families who block off huge swaths of rug space with their bags and then disappear for 20 minutes, only to return and glare at you and your kid for taking a couple inches of their saved seats. TANGLED: The comic duo of Mr. Smythe and Mr. Jones set the stage with wisecracking jokes and song before re-telling the story of Tangled. Thay are accompanied by Sir Samuel of Morocco on the keyboard (hidden in the body of a piano). The humor is silly but pleasing for both kids and adults, and the quick pace keeps everyone entertained. Of course, Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder join the show and telling and re-enacting the highlights of the story. It's a fun, imaginitive, and funny show, but the one thing that was missing was an appearance from everyone's favorite chameleon, Pascal. read more

3.5 Stars If you want to see a good musical, head over to Frozen in CA Adventure. If you want something short to entertain your kids for 20 minutes, this theatre will suffice. I have seen Beauty and the Beast here twice. It's okay. My son seems to really enjoy it. The nice thing about this Theatre is that it is very small, and the kids can sit on the carpet in the front. The show is interactive, with the kids participating from the audience. Note: They are strict about not letting anyone in after the show begins. I have been one of the unfortunates standing outside of the theatre holding my son up the entire time. Be there on time! read more

After the addition of Carsland in Disney's California Adventure, the resort in general seems to be sustaining high guest volume even on the off season. Good for Disney, frustrating for you. The Royal Theatre is one of the refreshing details Disney never fails to make available to combat those days of 80+ minute queue times and clogged thoroughfares. Simple and unpretentious, the Royal Theatre provides theatrical musicals of Beauty and the Beast and Tangled. Unfortunately, I was only able to view the former but it was excellent; The Belle character sounded almost exactly like Belle in the movie! No special effects here; just quality singing, smart quips, and a prop or two here or there. You'll enjoy it so long as you are not expecting flying magic carpets and elaborate sets like you'll find across the street at the Hyperion Theater. Accommodates bench seating with an area up front for floor sitting on small rugs. We waited about 10 minutes in line and there were plenty of good seats still available. Came in March during Spring Breaks, so it was a busy time. read more

Frozen play was good. Kids and adults enjoyed it. My only complain is that the seating is very limited so you have to come early to get a seat; our family didn't get to sit together. Also it's not a AC area. When we went in October, it was sooo hot outside (35C or 95F). it would have been nice for the area to have AC read more

I LOVE this theater. What a great addition to the side of Sleeping Beauty Castle! I love the comedic and impromptu style acting and set up of the theater, and the actors are all awesome! The showtimes are listed and you must get in about 30 min prior to showtime for a good seat, otherwise you're in the sun and you can't hear everything. Both princesses sound and look just like the ones that you can do a Meet & Greet with at the Royal Hall, which is definitely keeping with their characters for continuity sake. :) I can't get enough of watching these shows, they're always great to watch over and over. :) read more

As others said, the attraction is awesome. The bad part though are the few adults who think kids can see right through them. The rugs are not just for kids but for everyone. What this means is adults, some very large ones, sitting down in front of the kids. In the same day I attended both shows and both shows I saw adults oblivious to the kids blocking their view. In the first show it happened to another kid. In the second show, it happened to my own... twice by two different people. Anyways, the only reliable way for your kid to get an unobstructed view is to arrive early and take the first row benches. But that means your kids miss the up close view of the play and that really is the cool part of this theatre. Sit anywhere else, be prepared to have other adults bully your kids so get ready to defend them. BTW, my daughter was on the first row if you think adults won't try to nudge your kids from that position. I think Disney should just bite the bullet and institute a no adult on the rug policy. Update : First two carpet rows are now reserved for kids. Thumbs up to Disney on this change. read more

Our family loved both of the shows that we caught: Tangled & Beauty and The Beast. At first I thought maybe my 8 yr old daughter might be too old but I was wrong. She sat on the carpet in front of the stage along with a couple dozen other children and really enjoyed the interaction with the cast. Both shows had humor that had even the adults laughing. Definitely an enjoyable rest from all of the walking! read more
