    "Tangled" show
    Tamara P.

Disneyland's Royal Theatre is an open-air tent that holds little plays for everyone to enjoy. On our two most recent visits to the Disneyland Park we were able to catch two shows of "Tangled" featuring Rapunzel and Eugene (Flynn Rider). And who can forget the evil Mother Gothel. I felt that the show was well done highlighting all of the memorable moments from the storyline, so the actors and actresses alone deserve five stars. The low rating is for the way the ushers handled the crowd once the show ended. Once we stepped out of the tent and turned around, we had noticed that Rapunzel had come out in the front from the side of the stage to greet the guests who were fortunate to still be slowly exiting the theater. My daughter wanted to meet her as well, so we had asked the usher if we could step back in to meet her, but were told that we couldn't enter once we had exited. We had just exited and were maybe three steps out the of the theater. That is ridiculous. Instead we were told to go to the part of Fantasyland near the King Arthur's Carousel and Dumbo ride and wait in line for her at her tower. So we immediately dashed across the park to her tower to only find that the wait would be another forty-five minutes. So we waited. Fifteen minutes into our wait they closed off the back of the line saying that Rapunzel needed to head back to do her next show. When we finally made it in to "meet" Rapunzel, she looked rather frazzled and annoyed forcing a quick smile for the cameras with our daughter, not even engaging with us. First off, we had just come from the show and this Rapunzel looked nothing like the "Rapunzel" character in the show. Second, why doesn't Disney hire another girl to play Rapunzel so the girls don't have to rush back and forth and be so grumpy?! A not so happy experience in supposedly the happiest place on earth.

Date of visit: August 21, 2016 In our quest to ride/watch every attraction at Disneyland/DCA, we realized we hadn't been to the Royal Theatre yet! As it was the afternoon, we got there in time to watch the second showing of Tangled as told by storytellers Mr. Smythe and Mr. Jones and with the help of Rapunzel and Flynn/Eugene. (Beauty and the Beast is in the mornings.) The cast members do a pretty good job of retelling the movies through song and comedy with the assistance of props. For a one hour show, this wasn't too bad! It's an outdoor theater, though, so get here early for prime seating (we were seated at the back), and on occasional evenings, the Royal Theatre becomes a big band stage, complete with swing dancing. Definitely worth stopping by to see at night before the fireworks.

One day during our winter break, we were at Disneyland from 830am until 1030pm. Unlike every other time I'd visited, I did not set foot in Tomorrowland or ride any roller coasters. Instead I was chasing down princesses with my daughter. Going to Disneyland as a parent for the first time provides an entirely different perspective. It's less about running around the park, checking off things to do, and much more about watching your kid's eyes light up as storybook characters come to life. While my wife was staking out a patch of sidewalk for the parade, my daughter and I walked around Fantasyland. We saw Belle and ran straight over to the line that had formed next to her. I couldn't believe our luck, my daughter was actually wearing her Beauty and the Beast shirt. Unfortunately, well before we got to the front of the line, she left, to be replaced by Merida. We talked to the royal attendant and he told us that if we came back to watch the Beauty and the Beast show at the Royal Theater, Bell might come out to meet guests afterwards. So we watched the parade (Elsa and Anna made an appearance!) and hurried back to get seats. The show was surprisingly entertaining, even for parents - it's basically two energetic, silly guys and a princess telling a story with some fun props and an occasional pop culture reference. It was a pleasant break from the crowds and the craziness. As the show ended, we stayed inside the theater. Finally Belle returned and we got a cute photo with her, along with her autograph. It definitely made me feel accomplished as a dad.

Great storybook shows! Think of it as a fast forward version of the movies. Beauty and the Beast was the first show I watched here and I really enjoyed it. Singing and comedy all mixed into one. Frozen was just as good. Same singers and piano player that performed for Beauty, performed Frozen. The costume changes are crazy! I do not know how the can pull this off so perfectly. Now you have to get a fastpass ticket in order to sit inside to watch the show. The ticket booth is located right in front of the castle by the Walt statue is. Awesome and fun!

While I had not heard too much about it, I dedicated my whole day to exploring DLR and wanted to make the most of it. That being said, I purchased a Park Hopper ticket and made my way over after spending the first have the day in DL. Opened in 2001, DCA was not an immediate hit at its debut. In fact, it took a major facelift in order to start gaining some traction in terms of park attendance. The park is Disney's interpretation of California, separated into different lands based on regional areas of the state or by Disney IP. Some of the strongest areas IMO are San Fransokyo Square, paying homage to the Asian heritage in SF, and Pixar Pier which is a huge area combining Disney-Pixar theming with vintage California coastal vibes. While I feel this is the more adult park when comparing it to DL, there is a lot for kids to do here as well. There's a also a strong selection of attractions, and the shopping and dining are also decent. I took a spin on the parks icon - the Pixar Pal-a-Round, which provided awesome views of the park and greater Anaheim area. If comparing DCA to DL, it's my opinion the former is the stronger park - the theming and types of attractions speak to me more. Overall, I thought DCA was great - it's definitely an enhancement DLR as a whole, and I would no doubt return next time I plan a visit here.

The whole appeal of this place is the wristband -- it gets you in and out of the waterpark and lets you buy food without pulling out an ID. But if you rent a cabana, none of that convenience carries over. Even though I pre-paid, I still had to wait in a separate long line upstairs behind people buying wristbands, then show my ID -- which meant going back up to my room to get it. On top of that you have to put down an additional dollar deposit, take a paper slip, walk into the waterpark, and hand it off to someone before you can actually use what you already paid for. It's inefficient, inconvenient, and frankly doesn't make sense. You've already taken my payment and given me a wristband that's supposed to handle everything -- make the cabana work the same way. This one small procedure soured what was otherwise a smooth visit.

The free games were the blue tap games, so you don't earn tickets, but there were still a ton of fun options. We didn't even come close to using the full 3 hours because there was so much to do. My favorites were the basketball games and Connect 4 basketball. We played a few rounds of laser tag, which was super fun, but a lot of the equipment seemed broken that day. They also couldn't split us into teams, so everyone was playing individually instead. The go-karts were really fun for a group we got a whole round to just our coworkers. Some of the karts definitely felt faster than others, which made things interesting. We also did mini golf, and the course was much bigger than I expected. It took quite a while to get through all the holes. One thing to note is that the rides don't always have staff standing by them. If you want to ride something, you may have to find an employee and ask them to operate it. Overall, there was honestly more to do than we could fit into the 3 hours. We didn't even get to everything we wanted to try. Despite a few operational issues, we had a really fun time and felt like the event package offered a lot of value.

This was a good value compared to regular prices. Enjoyed the go carts twice; attendants were very patient with customers and trouble makers. Cart track is super fun, carts ran well, fun competition! Bumper boats were closed; perhaps weather isn't warm enough yet or demand was low. Two fountain sodas at the snack bar were $13. Pretty outrageous. Tried to use the batting cages. Our unlimited pass didn't seem to apply however, which was disappointing, as our key cards were unable to activate the cages in two different lanes. We moved on to mini golf. Well lit and good music is the best I can say. Overall I can tell the courses have been improving from a maintenance standpoint but the greens are TERRIBLE. If you have to putt over broken turf or your ball gets stuck in a pit of death that used to be part of the brick border, it disrupts the fun and becomes frustrating. Seriously, Boomers. Put some of that ridiculous soda pop revenue into fixing your miserable astroturf. There were tears and holes everywhere. The arcade gets periodically updated but we didn't use it this time due to time constraints. Always had fun on the multitude of games available. Same with laser tag, we just ran out of time. Was not crazy about the process for golf putters and bats for the batting cages. There only seemed to be one person in charge of handing these out from the desk and they were stuck handling a long ticket line so we pretty much helped ourselves by reaching over the counter and grabbing what we needed.

It's always clean, there are many decent fast meal options, and it feels relaxing under the palm trees on springy days. Inside, you have so many options to game--from Mario Brothers to Space Invaders. You can fall down a video game rabbit hole here. Also, the bumper cars are lit up and Lazer Tag is calling all players. There's a cafeteria-style "common hall" serving up pizza, nachos, hot dogs, fries, and bevvies. Outside, the bumper boats are a refreshing way to cool down. You can see that the staff works hard at maintaining the grounds. There's always someone working on the many pools and water features when I go. Overall, the greens are in good shape. Sure, a ball may stick, but it's a game. Mulligans and astro turf hiccups are par for this course. Want to practice random kindness? If you see a bottle on the ground, feel free to recycle in the receptacle placed by the tee box. It's nice that they thought to have as many receptacles as they did. It really helps keep the place tidy. The staff is young & laid back yet attentive.
