We recently stayed at Royalton CHIC Cancun and overall enjoyed our trip, but there were definitely some hits and misses. The resort is beautiful and has a lot to offer, but there are a few things future guests should know. ### THE PROS **The resort and beach are stunning.** Our room and patio were amazing, and the property itself is beautiful. **There is plenty to do.** There are tons of entertainment options both on and off the property, so you definitely won't get bored. **The buffet was our best and most consistent food option.** Surprisingly, we enjoyed it more than some of the specialty restaurants. **Chopsticks was pretty good.** The presentation was beautiful, and the Matcha Cheesecake was hands down the BEST cheesecake we had at the resort! **The staff was extremely friendly and helpful.** Our Spanish is pretty limited, but we were still able to communicate without much difficulty. **The spa is beautiful**, although pricey. You may be able to get vouchers/discounts by speaking with the Prime Travel representatives in the lobby, but this can require attending an approximately 90-minute presentation. **Insomnia Café was amazing!** **Room service is available 24/7**, which is extremely convenient. ### THE CONS **No A/C in the elevators.** In Cancun's heat and humidity, they can get pretty warm. **The steakhouse must have been having an off day.** Our steak had very little flavor. Dessert was a small portion of cold apple pie with a scoop of ice cream that tasted freezer burned. **The resort app was hit or miss** depending on the device we were using. **Room service is convenient, but the menu is very basic** compared with the restaurants. The hamburger was okay, but we never had good luck with the pizza. Both the pepperoni and Hawaiian pizzas were burnt on one side while the bottoms were undercooked. ### NEXUS TOURS/COCO BONGO Nexus Tours is onsite and assists with excursions. On our last night, we purchased Coco Bongo tickets through a Nexus representative for approximately **$260**. The representative told us to ask for his friend when we arrived and gave us the impression that we would be taken care of with good seating. When we arrived, no one seemed to know who that person was. We ended up sitting all the way in a back corner and felt like we were continuously passed over by the staff. The **Coco Bongo performances were GREAT**, but the service and seating were awful considering what we felt we had been promised for $260. ### AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION WARNING **Arrange your airport transportation BEFORE arriving in Cancun!** We planned to Uber from the airport to the hotel but learned after arriving that an Uber pickup wasn't an option for us. We were caught off guard and had to deal with the taxi/shuttle companies at the airport. We paid **$70 for a group shuttle**. After waiting about 30 minutes, a representative approached us and offered to "upgrade" us to private transportation for **$120**, saying they couldn't fill the group shuttle because there weren't enough passengers. We reminded them that we had already paid for the service THEY recommended. After some arguing and requesting a refund, they eventually put us in a taxi to the resort at **no additional charge**. Save yourself the frustration and arrange and confirm transportation before your trip. Royalton CHIC Cancun is a beautiful resort with an amazing beach, great rooms, friendly staff, and plenty of entertainment. The buffet, Chopsticks, Insomnia Café, spa, and especially the Matcha Cheesecake were highlights. However, the inconsistent food quality, limited room-service menu, unreliable app, and our experience booking Coco Bongo kept us from rating it higher. We still enjoyed our vacation and made some great memories, but there are definitely areas where the experience could be improved. read more

Royalton CHIC Cancun was the perfect adults-only getaway! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome with their exceptional hospitality. The resort is beautiful, clean, and sits on one of the most stunning stretches of beach in Cancun. The rooms were spacious, modern, and offered incredible ocean views. There was always something to do--from poolside entertainment and rooftop vibes to relaxing on the beach. The food exceeded my expectations for an all-inclusive, with a great variety of restaurants and plenty of delicious options throughout the day. Royalton - The view from the sports bar! - Resorts Near Me - Cancún, ROO

As a travel agent I enjoy going to a lot of Cancun area resorts from budget to mid level to luxury. I would consider this adults only Royalton a great mid level resort at an affordable price point. I came with a ladies group at Spring Break and we upgraded to the Diamond Club extra, which included a private pool area, drinks on the rooftop, a separate area at the beach, and a tiny lounge area with premium drinks. We did not think it was worth the extra money because we enjoyed hanging out at the noisy activity pool and rarely went to the itsy bitsy lounge. Pros: *Food is good with a wide variety in buffet---gorgeous 2nd floor area with a view *Room was nice and the view from the ocean front is unreal *Arianny at the Diamond Club beach area was the best server ever! She was friendly, very attentive, and came by so often our drinks never were empty. (See pic) *Activity pool was hopping all the time with games, foam parties, and lots of dancing *An amazing country singer came and he sounded exactly like every artist he played. *Mexican Fiesta night was the BEST I've ever been to in Mexico with lots of food authentic food choices and delicious desserts *Melecio in Vespa was amazing and Rodolfo in La Hacienda was patient with our big group. Young waiter (David?) in Rooftop 18 was so sweet *Massage at spas first class. I had Morgan and she was great. *Entertainment came around to get guests active *Beds comfortable *Robes and slippers nice touch *Coffee shop good *rooftop pool very quiet and zen during the day *nightclub and rooftop parties were great (it would nice if they accepted song requests) *never got approached regarding time share *kindly lent us an adapter Cons: (not too many and some are small) *Elevators can be slow *Diamond Lounge tiny and location poor *hard to get reservations for dinner except very early or very late (but butler will get reservations for you if you buy full Diamond club) *a few front desk girls were a tad cold but most were very accommodating *hotel can't help this but LOTS of vendors soliciting but they don't harass you Overall I would send my clients here if they wanted a great mid level resort. I stayed at the Royalton in Cancun for a birthday weekend. We had an absolute amazing time, and there was so much to do at the resort we didn't even leave. They have multiple options for restaurants on the property, we tried the restaurant called cloud 9 which was a private dinner we paid $80 pp and got a total of 4-5 amazing courses. We also took advantage of the spa on sight and got 55 min massages for a total of $120. When we first arrived our concierge offered us a deal on all of the activities we did if we attended the presentation. We did and were able to get great discounts and the presentation was also really good. The property was pretty nice and I would consider staying here again if I'm ever in Cancun. read more

We had suxh an amazing week at the resort. There are daily parties and events, beautiful beach acess and close proximity to the strip that you always have something to do. The buffet has many options. Chopstick and Hunter are my two fav restaurants. The wings at the sports bar are pretty good for quick bit in between drinking. First time here with my High School class ( 1989 ) Had a good time with the group. The food was ok. The entertainment staff was a great disappointment. The dj was not good. The pool close early than any other resort I have been to and even the sports bar closed early then you had no late night place to go to for food except room service. We had to walk to the party district to eat which was not far. I was not impressed. read more

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Royalton CHIC Cancun, especially considering this trip was to celebrate my husband and my first wedding anniversary. What should have been a memorable and special occasion turned into one of the most disappointing resort experiences I've ever had. My frustration actually began before we even arrived. On June 20, I reached out to the hotel regarding anniversary amenities. After multiple attempts to get assistance, Front Office Manager Daniel Mendez finally responded on July 2, assuring me that Guest Services Agent Damian Gomora would send me a catalog of options available to help make our anniversary special. That never happened. No one followed up, no one reached out, and the promise was simply forgotten. We specifically booked the Diamond Club experience because it advertised personalized concierge and butler service. Unfortunately, that was another promise that went unfulfilled. During our entire stay, no concierge or butler ever proactively reached out to introduce themselves, check on us, assist with reservations, or offer any of the personalized services that are advertised as part of the Diamond Club experience. It left us wondering what exactly we paid the premium for. After traveling all morning, we finally arrived only to have our check-in experience start off poorly. We were given the wrong room number, forcing us to haul our luggage back downstairs to correct a mistake that should never have happened. Despite the hotel knowing we were celebrating our anniversary well in advance, it was never acknowledged. There wasn't a handwritten note, a balloon, a banner, or even a simple "Happy Anniversary." The complete lack of effort was incredibly disappointing after weeks of communication leading up to our stay. The rest of the trip only got worse. The food throughout the resort was consistently overcooked, bland, and lacked flavor. Our room's garment steamer was broken, and housekeeping made little effort to create a welcoming atmosphere even something as basic as greeting guests while passing in the hallways seemed nonexistent. As Diamond Club guests, we also expected a premium experience, yet the Diamond Club pool bar was repeatedly out of premium liquor. To make matters worse, nearly every time we stepped onto the main floor, someone was trying to sell us upgrades, vacation club memberships, spa packages, or excursions. Instead of feeling like valued guests on vacation, we felt like we were constantly being targeted for another sales pitch. This was, without question, the worst resort experience I've had in Cancún. The lack of communication, broken promises, poor service, mediocre food, repeated inconveniences, and complete failure to acknowledge such an important milestone left us feeling overlooked and unappreciated. Royalton had every opportunity to make our first anniversary memorable. Instead, it became an experience we'll remember for all the wrong reasons. I am deeply disappointed and will not be returning to any Royalton property. I also cannot recommend this resort to anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion. For a resort that markets itself as a luxury, all-inclusive experience, it failed on nearly every level. read more

Royalton is an all inclusive resort on the Cancun beach, it does a lot of things good but has one big flaw. The good: - Beach is pristine - The restaurants are quite good for an all inclusive. The buffet is one of the best I've been to. - The gym is small but has good quality equipment - coffee/gelato shop is wonderful - the servers in the restaurants were all super friendly and did a great job The not so good: - Elevators are terrible here, not sure what the problem is but they often skip floors or don't come at all. You can expect to wait 5-10 minutes almost every time you need an elevator. - Reservations have to be made through the app (fine, I can understand how it helps them plan for the night) but it only allows up to 4 people per reservation and we had 6. Every night was a hassle with the restaurant scrambling to get our seating correct. For what it's worth, we were sat every time, but it took a little long and I'm sure wasn't fun for the wait staff. - can only make 2 reservations on the app at a time (sucks for planning a 4-5 night stay) The awful: - they literally try to upsell you on everything. Can't sit in half the beach chairs unless you pay for the upgraded package. Can't go to the roof top pool unless you pay. Can't walk through the lobby without being harassed about a tour or whatever. Like dude, I already paid $400 a night to be here, just let me do everything and stop bugging me for more money. Summary: The base level room is good, and you'll enjoy the resort and the food and everything it offers. However you might be annoyed at the constant upselling and restrictions that come along with it. If you pay for the upgraded package, you get more access to the resort (more beach chairs, roof top pool, etc.) but the upselling still continues, nobody is spared from that part. read more

If I could go 3 1/2 stars instead of 3, I would. Food is good & plentiful. No one got sick. Staff is really nice. Cocktails were tasty. The buffets and reservation only restaurants were good. We enjoyed the room service although the menu is pretty limited. As is the case with most resorts, the price markups on essential items is hefty, so don't forget your sunscreen or other essentials. I paid $30 for a can of sunscreen. Pool area is nice and well maintained. Most of the negative things we encountered had to do with poorly behaved/rude guests. Housekeeping was good. The rooms could use a little TLC/maintenance, but overall, nothing that would make us not want to stay there. The diamond level gets you a few upgrades/amenities, but according to other guests is an unnecessary up-charge with little reward. The Royalton chic was a great choice for our vacation in Cancun. The rooms are modern spacious, and the premises pool and restaurants are very well maintained and attractive. The location is right on the tourist strip within a short walking distance from some of the bars in the main Cancun area as well as some shopping The one thing that could be improved is the restaurant reservation system, which seems to always be backed up and it's impossible to make reservations for groups larger than four. We visited as a group of six and every night we had to figure out how to book a table for everyone. It also felt that the premium offering were a little expensive like a rooftop party for $50, considering that it's an all-inclusive. I would expect access to the party without having to pay extra. The breakfast and lunch buffet, were excellent and have the freshest seafood and a lot of fresh food, salads, fruit, and an amazing dessert bar . The music at the pool area can get a little loud, which at times was annoying when trying to relax by the beach I feel like it's a bit over the top and unnecessary since there is no other fool to hang out in peace . Place was pretty cool, nice modern design. Clean rooms okay food. The hotel does have many flaws, for once they have diamond members here (people coming to buy timeshares with them or members with timeshares) so they WILL be put way above you and you'll see the difference, specially where you can't make any reservations to any restaurants but they can. Buffet for lunch was very poorly executed, not much to choose from. Aside for the omelettes and the crepes we didn't eat at the buffet. One time I even came to get a crepe and take it to my room, guess what they don't let you leave the buffet area with the food! Ridiculous rule in my option. There is NO ACCESS To any stairs!!! So if you're claustrophobic with the elevators oh well....also the elevators take FOREVER!!! Another problem I had with this resort is the fact that they don't let you open the umbrellas at the beach, so I don't see the point of them if they're not allowed to be open.... Staff was just okay, not your typical friendly staff as we've encountered at different resorts. Sometimes we would have to wait even a couple of hours before a server would came to check on us on the beach loungers. Not sure I'd return. I had the best time here Victor and Sandra was my butlers and they did a great job, I had the chefs dinner on the beach with Marly which was awesome, great view of the ocean and very romantic, the hotel is beautiful with lots of activities and the food is good too. I tried chop sticks which is a Asian restaurant the food was great as well as the service. Element gourmet buffet had a great variety of food, I also tried Cloud 9's 6 course dinner with wine which was a great experience. I tried the coffee shop, and this one spot by the pool called munchies which had great drinks and food, I wish I had more time to try other place here but I only stayed for 3 days. The Royalton Chic was my second all-inclusive experience that proved to me that in the all-inclusive vacation world, you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. All that being said, the hubby and I stayed here for nearly a week, and the experience was so mixed that I recommend you read a lot of reviews and take into account what you can and CANNOT tolerate before you book Royalton for your Cancun vacation. I'd never been to Cancun, but I've heard so much about Cancun, that I expected the place to be vibrant, lively, and full of partying. Cancun wasn't exciting, but it wasn't completely horrible either. Although, I hated the first two days. Read below... As far as the general look of the hotel and the grounds, Royalton was top notch. The Royalton is a high-rise resort, with suites from floors 4 through 15. The first floor is CLEAN, luxurious, and spacious. If you've arranged your ground transport properly, when you step out of your car or van, the Royalton staff arrives to take your bags to your suite. When the hubby and I arrived, we were exhausted from flying and traveling (car, air train, flight, van). We had already checked in, so all we wanted to do was get to our suite, and find dinner and margaritas. We could not, because once we received our wristbands and instructions, we were swiftly passed to a woman the check in ladies described as a "concierge". She greeted us, and instead of taking us on a quick tour, she sat us down and proceeded to STEAL 30 minutes of our vacation time telling us about how we could sign up for a travel vacation club (read: TIME SHARE). She piled pamphlets in our hands, gave us a bunch of "Diamond Club" coupons, and asked for our IDs and a credit card number. Umm! No ma'am! Once she saw that we weren't game for that, she made us sign up to see a representative at breakfast in the morning. Whatever. Anything to get to our room. Turns out we were given a free upgrade to the presidential suite. We didn't ask for an upgrade - but we speculate as to why they gave us one. On sight, the suite was gorgeous. Two full bathrooms (our first time for hubby and me to have individual bathrooms for a vacation - yay!), living room, large bar area, and enough stools, tables, and sofas to throw a party. Outside was a double balcony, with an outdoor tub with jets and balcony furniture. A bathroom tub with jets. Double sized showers with the fancy rain style shower head. King size bed and plenty of closet space. It would take someone with a hospitality degree to explain to me how a room could look wonderful, but still be completely annoying to stay in. I mean, to the point where hubby and I wondered if we could get our regular room back? - SUITE large and clean, but FREEZING. Took us a half a day to figure out how to get the bedroom to a livable temperature. We had to ask for plenty of extra blankets to nest down in so we could sleep well and warmly. - Fans had to keep blowing, because once we turned them off, we noticed a distinct sewage stench. Just plain foul. Enough to make you gag. - Outdoor tub? Rusted inside. - Balcony furniture, very worn. - Indoor tub jets? HORRIFICALLY noisy. - Closet had FOUR sliding doors, which were annoying to open and often stuck. - Drawers were sleek and I guess very modern, but hard for me to use because there were no door pulls and I felt like I would break a nail every time I went to use one. - Clock? Busted and broken. - Phone? Broken. After day one, we speculated that maybe someone arrived who caused such a fuss that they gave away our original junior suite, and when we arrived, they had no choice but to stick us in the presidential suite, which truly needed a service check days before we arrived. Also, every place we went (indoors and outdoors), were salespeople. EVERYWHERE! Hubby and I were determined to make the best of all this. So let me speed this review. Ready, here are the good parts: - FOOD was amazing. Honestly, the buffet and restaurants were my favorite part of the day. The desserts rivaled what we ate at the Wynn Buffett in Vegas. Drinks were delicious. All included. Great service as well. - POOL AREA, well maintained, towels always available and super clean. The pool staff were friendly, and honestly lots of fun. We took aqua zumba and aqua fit classes. Swim up bar! Yes! - BEACH. BEAUTIFUL. No notes. I mean, we STAYED hanging out at the beach and pool. Relaxing time, really. - STAFF. Some reviewers hated the staff. I don't know what they liked about us, but these people LOVED on us. We spoke to them kindly each time we had a problem, and they were great. We needed blankets, someone delivered them in less than ten minutes. Our phone broke, someone came up to replace batteries in 20 minutes. I don't have enough YELP space to write more, but overall, I would say, vet your all inclusives well. SANDALS is MUCH BETTER, but will run you about $1800 more. Royalton could be incredible, but they need to spend time working on the experience. read more

Our room had expansive views with a very large balcony. A variety of restaurants to choose from all excellent especially La Hacienda. I cannot wait to come back. read more

Just arrived and this scenery is to die for. We checked in and headed to breakfast. Then nap at the beach until room is ready I am savoring this unforgettable experience ok we had brunch and now we sitting in the lobby waiting on rooms This hotel was trash, from the rooms, to the service. 1.We had to be moved from first room due to mold and very musty smell was unbearable. The second room was somewhat better. After a while the smell came back. Like an old mop. 2. The entertainment needs to be upgraded so dated. 3. The food selection needs to be more appealing. (Buffet line) If you going to use same food daily make it more presentable not dry and old. The steakhouse was good. The steak was amazing but the veggies were lost in the kitchen it was a sliced tomato, sliced zucchini and sliced squash one of each so thin and the size of a quarter. The salads were so small and the dressing is a teaspoon. The appetizers were not great at all. It was 3 onion rings, crab cakes had 2 and they taste li 3. Our beds were not changed one time in 5 days appalling for a 3-4 star resort. In day 4 I called and ask for a sheet change and no one appeared. We had 2 beds and I was in the room she changed one bed but not the other. Let's not discuss the bugs in the room or someone else's lashes left on the counter after room was supposed cleaned. 4. The fruit was horrible how are you in tropical area and no sweet fruit, let's not talk about the watered down liquor and the sodas that was flat every time. We had to ask for water because the room was not equipped with water and the gift shop charged 13.00 a bottle. 5. The checkin area was under construction and not deemed safe. 6. The elevators were always congested and a couple didn't work making it impossible to move expeditiously. 7. We ask for ice from room service after 1 hour it was mostly melted. 8. Not many English speakers in the building making it hard to communicate. 9. We went to schedule exit transportation and was informed the guy did not come to work and there was not a replacement try in the am (impossible because we had 525 am pickup), but other members in my party were not informed (will review separately). On my pickup day we were instructed to be down by 525 for pickup I came down and checked out 5:07 the guy came in the lobby called our name at 530 we went out and he pretended he never called our name and our transportation was gone. I explained to the manager that I was there and he said sorry we can't accommodate you because company was gone. What happened was he gave our ride to another passenger by mistake and did want to make it right. We paid an additional 50.00 for a cab. Best/worst stay ever Look into another resort they need to do better read more

My friend and I visited this property for our birthday. The property is beautiful and sits right on the beach. The only negative I would give, is that the common areas were extremely hot. The lobby bar, restaurants and hallways were hot. The food was amazing at every restaurant except the steakhouse. The highlight being the buffet. Our room had balcony with an ocean view. They even decorated it for our birthday! I would definitely go back here but hopefully they have the ac working by then. read more

My experience at Royalton CHIC was nothing short of abysmal. This establishment is a complete price gouge pretending to be an "all-inclusive" while really being a hotel that will nickel and dime you for anything and everything. Whoever has rated this 4 or 5 stars either has no standards, or was financially compensated. Checkin process (6/10): Long, arduous, and sloppy. It really shouldn't be that challenging. Facility (2/10): - No AC throughout common areas like lobbies, elevators, or any other common area where people may want to enjoy the hotel. - If you're fine waiting 5-10 minutes for elevators that are tiny and cramped with people, then great. If you have standards, then perhaps not. Also, only 3/5 were operational. You can take the stairs but be prepared to gag from the stench - Not the cleanest or safest--example, rusty nails poking out of floors. - Pool was okay but again, for all inclusive I expected better. I've been to nicer apartment pools. - Spa is 3x the cost if surrounding areas and zero services or perks are included in your stay. Not worth it. Rooms (8/10): - My room had a nice view but unfortunately the stench of their unkempt beach ruined the experience - Shower barely ever got hot - AC never got cold Service (6.5/10): - Service was okay. Most restaurants had people who weren't skilled--often forgetting to bring things, rushing us in and out - A lot of the staff had bad attitudes. We escalated issues a couple of times and management was better, but simple things shouldn't have been so complicated - You have to do everything through the app (booking reservations, etc.) but then they just make you call the front desk anyway. Restaurants/Food/Drinks (2/10): - Food is terrible. We ate at the buffet, Chopstick, and the Sports Bar. All of the food was subpar at best. We ended up cancelling at their high-end restaurant because there's no way we were paying up front for the same awful food. - BTW for what the staff refers to as a "party hotel" that's also a beach resort--there's a dress code for the buffet. - Alcoholic drinks barely had any alcohol and shots were half shots read more

If I could give the resort 0 stars I would. *Long post alert* My family and I have stayed at the Royalton CHIC at least 5 times. This by far was the worst experience I have ever had. Check in process: Was gut wrenching. The staff were very unfriendly and treated the entire process as a revolving door system. My reservation was not honored, a reservation I made with the Royalton reservation agent directly. I paid for a junior suite with a terrace jacuzzi and ocean view. We were given a smelly, dirty suite with a mangrove view. We were livid- after traveling with two toddlers we could not even relax. We had to go back to the front desk and wait to speak to a front desk agent, who eventually did move us, but not to a suite that we booked. The room was dirty and the screen door was broken. The maid service was AWFUL. They never mopped the floor or cleaned the toilet the entire time we were there ( 5 nights). There was pee rings on the toilet- I have two toddler boys! The stopped leaving snacks- no chips, cookies or snacks were left in the room. Staff did not give a F*** about any of our concerns. We were promised phone calls, follow ups, resort credits and so on and they went radio silent. Kept saying they would contact me. The safe in the room was broken- took them 2 hours to fix it. Time wasted in the room! Room service was also terrible. NO OPTIONS! They offered 2 options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We were shocked, couldnt even get pasta for my kids via room service. The restaurant food was disgusting especially the seafood- fish was gross. My husband paid $50.00 for a tiny piece of Lobster as an upgrade. It was shocking. My kids eat vegetarian diet when we travel and there aren't enough options at the restaurants. The kids menu options had like two different options at all the restaurants so pretty much lived on pasta and pizza for the week. Surprisingly, the brunch buffet probably had the most consistent food. The tiles and floors were all broken and rigid by the pool areas- it was impossible to walk barefoot . My kids were not able to swim in the splash pad area as there was always something closed . On the 4th day I begged the front desk for find me a manager , finally I spoke to someone named Edgar. I cried my eyes out explaining to him how sad and hurt I was that the staff dismissed my concerns and that the condition of the room was subpar. I explained to him the countless hours I wasted at guest services , the amount of money I spent on the perfect vacation as this was our first time traveling as new family of 4. I explained that I worked so hard all year to save money to bring my toddlers on a vacation and he gave me two big F*** yous. He was incredibly not phased or willing to help/ he claimed that my reservation was locked and he had no way of adjusting it. I pleaded for a manager and was told he went home . I was speechless. THE STAFF STOLE $80 USD out of my wallet, a Nixon Watch ($300 USD) gifted to me by my groomsmen on my wedding day, and a tie bar that was custom made and gifted to me by my wife on our wedding day (only worth about $25 but has a very high sentimental value to me). All the items were stolen out of our room within the first 5 hours that we were there. We spent the rest of our trip lugging around a backpack and crossbody bag everywhere including the pool. We couldn't enjoy the rest of our trip because we couldn't do anything together one of us had to stay with our belongings everywhere we went. We reported it to guest services who initially said that there's nothing the hotel can do essentially. They also said we should have put everything in the small hotel safe. They conducted an investigation by going to our room and searching our whole room including our luggage to make sure we weren't lying. They have a digital door lock that tracks who enters the room. But instead of looking into who was in the room they came to search our entire room instead. They told us two days later that the investigation was negative (meaning they couldn't prove it was taken). They offered a $80 voucher for the gift shop 3 days later... with 1 hour before the shop closed. We also left the following morning before the shop opened. We thought it was a nice gesture but then the staff required us to sign paperwork (NDA) that after reviewing prevented us from sharing our negative experience. So I declined the offer and chose to share my experience here! I do not recommend staying at this hotel at all. They have shady practices and don't take customer satisfaction seriously! DO NOT BOOK THIS. Royalton Chic was an absolute disaster. 2 elevators out of 5 were out of service and that's the only way to get around. They will nickel and dime you for everything. It's not an all inclusive. We were turned away from the buffet because I as a man was wearing a sweater vest and didn't have sleeves. It's a beachside hotel. And the women inside the buffet had less clothes on than me. The food at all the restaurants are mediocre at best. Again, everything is an up charge if you want something actually worth having. Extremely Disappointed -- Beautiful Resort, Poorly Managed and Unresponsive to Serious Issues My recent stay at Royalton Chic Cancun was a mix of beauty and frustration. While the resort itself is visually stunning and the location is ideal, the way the management handled a critical issue during our stay left us deeply disappointed and disrespected as guests. For over 33 hours, there was no running water in our room -- no shower, no working toilet, and no ability to wash hands or brush teeth. Despite the severity of the issue, the hotel's solution was to suggest we use the lobby bathroom -- located 15 floors down, with extremely slow elevators. This "solution" was not only inconvenient, but deeply inconsiderate given our unique situation: my husband was bedridden recovering from multiple dental surgeries and also has Crohn's disease, which makes timely and easy access to a restroom essential. We received no sincere/concrete apology, no compassion, and very little communication throughout the ordeal. While other guests were likely able to spend the day at the beach, we were left in an unsanitary and undignified situation in our room, with no assistance. To make matters worse, the water was shut off again on the day of our departure, further adding to the disruption and lack of basic services. Despite repeated follow-ups, the hotel took over a week just to consider reimbursing four nights -- and even that has still not been confirmed or followed through. I also learned that every guest who attempted to receive compensation was required to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). I refused to sign, because I believe that guests deserve transparency -- and to be warned when a hotel cannot guarantee essential services. Sadly, even those who did sign have reportedly not been refunded. Communication from management has been sporadic at best, and dismissive at worst. Given that this hotel operates under the Marriott brand, I expected far better -- both in service and in customer care. Warning to future guests: If you are traveling with someone who has medical needs or expect reliable basic amenities like running water, I strongly urge you to reconsider. In our experience, Royalton Chic Cancun was unprepared to handle emergencies, and unwilling to communicate honestly or provide timely resolutions. A pretty resort means little when the most basic standards of care and accountability are not met. I sincerely hope Marriott and Blue Diamond Resorts take a closer look at how this situation was handled. My boyfriend and I recently went on vacation and stayed at a hotel I had previously visited and had a great experience at. Based on that, I recommended staying there again for our trip to Cancun. However, something suspicious happened during our stay--my boyfriend's phone went missing. When we tracked it, we found that it was located at someone's house in Cancun. Strangely, when I first visited this resort, my phone also went missing. At the time, it was in my room, while on this trip, my boyfriend's phone was next to mine at the beach before it disappeared. Besides the fact that all of the food is inedible. This hotel gives a lot of lip service and give generic answers when there is actually a problem. My work pre-books our rooms for us when we travel. And the protocol is we would update it to our name, bonvoy number and credit card upon checking in to the room. The front desk person I had didn't do it for me. But only did it for my coworker. When I reached out to them afterward, when i don't see it on my Bonvoy account, the hotel gave me a generic answer on how their policy doesn't allow them to fix it for me. And yet, they can update the Bonvoy number for my coworker?!? (Which i have screenshot from my coworker to prove). How is this policy only applied to one person and not another. We both checked in and checked out at the same time, and yet he got better treatment. And then 2/15/24, they emailed me and said they will credit me. But nothing happened after that, I still didn't receive my credit. And when I checked back on it - they went back on their words. It is like the hotel changes their rules whenever they feel like and goes back on their words as well. I feel that if the front desk girl didn't do her job correctly when checking me in, then the hotel should step up and fix her mistake. Well, according to the Marriott's policy since the reservation wasn't even updated to my name. And the credit card authorization form isn't for me either. I shouldn't be allowed to pay either. Royalton is an older property that was recently bought out by the Marriott Autograph Collection so it is currently going through what I call an awkward growing out bangs situation right now. All that aside, don't let the bad reviews scare you, we had a fine time! The Good: - We had lovely interactions with every single service person we met. Everyone was super kind and helpful. Five stars all around. - We had a junior oceanview suite and found it to be clean, spacious, and well air conditioned (although a little outdated). - We were there for the wedding and the reception, cocktail hour, and ceremony were beautiful, well organized, and fun! Food was great. - Dining wise, buffet was generally good (although by day three we got kind of tired of eating the same thing every day). We were able to grab a seat at Agave and Taj. Expect dining to be a very long and slow experience. Taj was really yummy and we enjoyed the red snapper at Agave. - Spa was exceptional! We got a really great deal for a couples massage + hydrotherapy by booking directly with one of the agents at the beach. They whole staff was super engagaging, professional, and experienced. I loved the cool Middle Eastern cave vibe they had going. - Coffee shop is great! - There are multiple pools to choose from and even a small kids water park. The Bad: - Our check-in day was absolutely terrible. There was a long wait (even though we had uploaded all of our documents in the app) and the keys were down so we had to wait for a bell man to let us in .. EVERY SINGLE TIME WE HAD TO ENTER OUR ROOM. It was fine the first time, but by the end of the night the wait for people to get into the room was hours long and I felt bad for the people with small children who were waiting in the heat to get in. By the time we got into our room our bed was missing pillow cases, so I called housekeeping to get some. Instead they sent everything but pillowcases and by then we were too tired to complain. - You are only allowed one dining reservation per day and it has to be with the app which worked 15% of the time which is a shame because I feel like I didn't get a full 360 view of activities, schedule, and dining options since it was hard to access. - Beach is super murky with lots of seaweed and sand fleas. - Only a few restaurants had air conditioning so be prepared to get eaten up by mosquitos and sweat it out. Even their indoor night club was lacking in AC which sounds like an emergency situation just waiting to happen. - Drinks were sugary sweet and lacked consistency throughout the resort. Overall, I was impressed with the wedding guest experience and the good time I spent with good people. This is a fun place. Is it super luxury? NO. But I definitely got what I paid for and had a very fun trip with friends. Reminds me of a Royal Caribbean cruise in terms of quality with worse entertainment and food but way bigger rooms and a beach. Pro: - Great location on the hotel zone. Close enough to walk to the action but not in it. Beach is beautiful (but can have rough waves). No stupid chair games. - Diamond Club pool is heated which is a big deal this time of year. - Service was prompt outside of dinner. No issues getting drink service which I've experienced at much more expensive all inclusives. - The room was really big and nice. Kept clean. - Lots of different types of people having fun. Young 20s to late 60s. Couples, groups of friends, groups of co workers. Just nice to see a variety of people enjoying their vacations. - People dancing at the club until at least midnight. Lively crowd. Mid: - Pools were just ok for an all inclusive. Very basic. Con: - Not enough day or night activities. Shows were weak. - Food was super average or worse. We knew this in advance and aren't mad about it. I do recommend Diamond Club if you can get it relatively cheap - the heated pool and upgraded drinks were very nice. I was super fortunate to receive a trip to the royalton chic resort in Cancun Mexico with two of my closest friends. I had stayed at the royalton in Montego Bay and thoroughly enjoyed it so I had high expectations for the Chic in Cancun. I wasn't disappointed! Despite our airline having a 2.5 hour delay leaving Canada (curses Sunwing) we arrived in Cancun safely and smoothly arrived and checked in to Rotalton Chic. The resort was beautiful and smelled amazing. The staff was super kind and attentive throughout the resort. They made sure we always had a drink in our hand, that we had food and entertainment and they were also super friendly and easy to talk to. I don't have any negatives to say about the staff and service here. Food at this resort was surprisingly delicious and some of the best resort or all-inclusive food I've had. Getting a seats at their restaurants was easy and there were always options for snacks and drinks. We hit up the steakhouse twice, the Italian restaurant and the buffet for breakfast and midnight crepes, as well as Mexican night which took place outside on the main patio entertainment area. The entertainment was also enjoyable and had lots of variety. We were able to head off resort for a day on Isla mejures for a self organized tour and we also signed up for a fun excursion day doing ATV, Ziplining and Cenote. Royalton made it super easy to book the excursion and went above and beyond to get us the discounted rate. Our trip to The Royalton Chic was worth every moment and I would definitely go back. We enjoyed 5 days and 4 nights at this all inclusive resort! The original appeal was that it was apart of the Marriott app. The hotel has great qualities with the overall architecture and design of the hotel. We enjoyed the diamond club services and additional options like premium drinks, butler service, and separate areas of the pool along with a breakfast option in addition to the buffet. Overall the hotel appeals to different people- we were wanting to get away to the beach with little stress and relaxation. We were able to have that at the wonderful spa that the hotel has (diamond club gets a free hour with the hydro therapy). We also appreciated the separate beach and pool area at the hotel because the main pool often would be come over crowded and Loud. The hotel appeals to more "party going" but also has relaxing elements. Our butler Gustavo was a great help and reserved all our dinners and assured we had our needs met! The downside of the hotel that we found was that overall the hotel was very crowded and like I said was more catered towards parting. Nothing wrong with that- just not our overall vibe. Also- there was very little allergen friendly options and the food at the restaurants were often underwhelming. Room service was not great, as well. It says there are gluten free pizza options, however there are not which was a sad day for this pizza lover who is also gluten free. Hubs and I went to Cancun for our anniversary, and stayed at the Royalton Chic. Here's my take... - Started off super rough because it took us over 50-minutes to check-in. This wasn't due to them being extremely busy, nor was it due to inadequate staffing. There were some customers who had challenges with their reservations, so it halted the check-in process. - Once we checked in, we ventured around the grounds to see where everything was and that was informative and we were extremely impressed with the resort and all that was offered. - We attempted to go to the Mexican restaurant our first night but it was booked so we went to the buffet. And while there was so much there,much of it was seafood. (I'm allergic to all fish & seafood ). So I wasn't able to partake in much at the buffet that night other than salad. We ended up eating at the sports bar, and the only thing I could eat were wings (which were delish ). Everything else was cooked in the same grease as seafood so I couldn't eat fries or onion rings . - The grounds & beach were well maintained. The pools and pool areas were very well kept too. Lots of seating and shade. Plea by of activities throughout the day to keep guests engaged. - The Spa was simply superb! Hubs got me a package & omggg, that was my best experience to date! Miriam & Hilda are quite professional and wonderful at their respective jobs! - Our Jr. Suite was clean daily, approximately stocked and had a perfect view! - The breakfast buffet literally has something for everyone whether you want a plate full for bacon or vegan options, lol. A variety of fruit & veggies, just well stocked! Overall, our experience was a great experience. Arrival: There is a gate/ guard and they know who is coming and going. Our driver had to give our name and his name to enter. We drove up the hill to the lobby door and the bellman took our bags and said he will bring them to our room. Check-In / Check-Out: We checked in and tried to upgrade our room from a bay view to an ocean view. They didn't have any ocean view rooms available at that time, but they tried to get us to upgrade to the "Diamond Club" and would throw in the upgrade for free but also come with switching rooms in the middle of our stay. After reviewing the Diamond Club amenities, we didn't feel it was worth another $1,000 USD for our 6 night, 2 person stay. We checked in and they charged us the full room price at check-in, plus a separate charge of $200 USD hold for incidentals. They asked how we would like to pay like they accept other forms of payment than a credit card. You will get your Royalton bracelet that serves as your room key and entry into some of the restaurants. Any additional expenses and the MXN tax can be taken out of the incidental hold. The Room: We booked the Luxury Sunset View Suite that overlooked the bay. There is a separate living room with a pull-out couch. Large TVs in both the living room and bedroom. There is water, beer, and soda in the fridge that you can drink that's included in the room cost. The shower had a waterfall and detachable showerhead. The toilet, shower, and sinks are. The bed and the couch are comfortable for you to sleep or relax when you're not enjoying the resort. You can order room service from the TV and even schedule your room service. We scheduled our breakfast the night before a day where we had a 7 am call time for an excursion. They showed up 20 minutes early, so be prepared. The Resort: The resort is great and very modern looking. A lot of seating in the lobby as well as a bar to order drinks. They also have a stage where shows will take place. There are 2 pool areas. One on the main floor/beach and the other on the roof. Both have bars to get drinks as well as waiters walking around taking food and drink orders. We stayed on the main level pool. Alcoholic drinks at the rooftop bar are only free for Diamond Club members. There were 4 restaurants and 1 main buffet on site that is included with your stay. We visited Hunters (steak), Agave (Mexican), and Gourmet Marche (buffet). Hunters is probably the best restaurant on the property. The steak and the ribs we had were amazing and tender. The buffet was great for breakfast and dinner. We mostly liked the omelets for breakfast. Agave was our least favorite. You could find better Mexican food off the resort. We also tried the Gelato shop which had a good assortment of flavors. They do also have a sports bar (Score) that we booked a table their for Superbowl. Our waiter Ulises was amazing! He also kept food and drinks flowing all night long. The Resort has Covid antigen testing on-site for $35 USD per person ($90 for PCR). Check-in to results took about 25 minutes. We received a hard and digital copy of our results. Tips: Bring cash and tip your servers. We brought a bunch of $5 bills and everyone that we gave one (or more) to were super appreciative of the tip. CONS: Elevators: The elevators are very slow and do not sync. Total of 5 elevators (3 on one side and 2 on the other). However, if you push up/down on the left side the right side does not register. Thus, the elevators are stopping on floors and not picking anyone up. Stairs are for emergencies only. Housekeeping: As soon as we arrived we placed our valuables in the safe and locked it. We left the next day to go to breakfast and explore the resort and came back to an unclean room but a note on the safe saying the safe was opened, they closed it, and to call guess services to have them reset it. It was fishy to come back to an uncleaned room but a note on our safe. Nothing was missing. Shows: The shows were good and enjoyable to watch; however, they didn't wow us. If we place Cirque du Soleil and Broadway shows like Hamilton as 5-star shows, these are about 2 stars. Drinks: The drinks contain a lot of sugar. Unless you're ordering doubles or shots along with your drinks you may be 4+ drinks in until you feel it. One of the days we had a bunch of drinks, felt buzzed for a few moments but we felt all the calories of those drinks. Not a good feeling. read more

TLDR: Great staff and service, but NOT for romantic getaways. The Royalton is nestled among other high-rise hotels along the Hotel Zone street. The clientele was pretty young, energetic, and a touch uncouth at times. Lots of hammered guests stumbling everywhere, vomit in the hallway/elevator (which was promptly cleaned by the awesome housekeeping staff), lots of shouting across the bars, and getting way too close and friendly with strangers in the elevators. More Spring-Break or Bachelor-/Bachelorette-Party vibes than a romantic getaway... which was totally my fault for not doing proper research before booking. Our room was nice and spacious with a comfy bed and a lovely view of the beach. The water pressure of the shower was great too. And I loved that you can order room service from your TV. Restaurants were mostly okay for an all-inclusive resort. We were bummed that the Tomahawk wasn't available a the steakhouse, and that our Ribeye (which was an up charge) was tough to chew. The Asian fusion restaurant's skewers were awesome tho! The highlight for us was the couple's massage we had at their spa. Totally relaxing and well worth the splurge! My friends and I really enjoyed our experience here. Food is hit or miss. But service, ambience, activities and the staff in general deserve 5 stars. Do not come here if you plan to not drink or dance on the rooftop or club. The club usually gets busy around 11 PM. Restaurant wise we loved the asian spot Jade and the steak house Hunter. The outside pools do feature great popular BBQ options throughout the day as well. The rooftop features a very large pool, cabanas that you can rent out with hookah. Royalton does feature free Covid test so don't forget to schedule it when you arrive. I was told the Diamond club was not worth it as the perks don't justify the extra cost. The crowd here is definitely younger and 0 kids. We met folks from all over the US. Price wise for what we got and location this is perfect. We definitely got our $$$ worth. Room service was amazing. Food quality and service was prompt and very accurate with our orders. If you love Cuban cigars some restaurants sell them as you dine as well. You aren't far from the airport, downtown, local bars and some of the excursion spots. The beach on this side does feature a lot of sun, waves and water is cooler. We stayed here about a week ago and it was overall a great place to stay. The room was nice (we had the sunset view) which I really liked. The food was decent but not the best food I've ever had. Probably would give it a 6 out of 10. The housekeeping did great and they did turndown service which was nice to come back to. We did the diamond club which I think was worth it. It basically gets you different access to parts of the resort and included in it is a 50 min hydrotherapy session which we really enjoyed and also a butler who told us about the days events and helped us make reservations for the restaurants (which you should do every night). The beach access was also really great especially since there was a lot of places to sit in the sun or if needed sit in the shade. They also had multiple pools to choose from. They had events everyday in the afternoon and at night too which was fun to go to after dinners. The interior design of the hotel is very modern chic. As most properties in Cancun, you drive into the driveway and are stoped by the guards at security ensuring you are on the list to enter. The bellman are very courteous. Gives you instructions on where to check in and the process of what to expect next. When checking in, the bill is reviewed with you. Whether you prepaid or not. Currently, there is a $200 deposit for incidentals. And a $3.72 charge that isn't taken at the time of booking. We booked through a third party. With certain packages you get a resort credit. However, it is pre designated. It's a coupon book totaling the resort credit amount. The coupons inside can only be used for the services identified. Ultimately we didn't get to use it because it didn't apply to anything we were interested in. We did a non diamond club stay. And glad we did. Disclaimer we stayed during Christmas holiday so service may be different during other seasons. We were able to get into restaurants without having to wait. The longest we waited was approximately 5 minutes. We ordered drinks and was able to get premium liquors without additional cost. We only paid for drinks when we went to the rooftop pool party.
