I do not like chocolate. I want to like chocolate but I just don't. Yet, on this particular day as my friend went to Panda Express I decided to look into this store. My intention was simply looking because the displays were nice. They were captivating. I walked in and was immediately greeted with an enthusiastically polite gentleman who walked me through all their product. He discussed flavor profiles. He showed different flavors. And somehow I walked out with two boxes of chocolate. I don't know how. I didn't intend to buy chocolate. But they were so convincing! And it was amazing. Wow! I am blown away by their chocolates. My son and I walked in to see what the store was about and the staff there offered if we wanted to try a sample. The sample was one of their nama chocolates (apparently a Japanese version of ganache) made with champagne. And it was phenomenal! We browsed around to see what other options they had and we came across one that had a Seattle theme - which happened to be made with Islay Whiskey. We bought a box of 20 pieces and it retailed for 23 dollars. After we got home, we ate one each after dinner and we were both blown away! The texture is just amazing and it was very well balanced with the whisky. The store was very clean but maybe a tad bit too dark. The staff was friendly. All chocolates are packed with an ice pack and once you purchase, you have to put it in the fridge within 5 hours. We were informed that the chocolates are good for one month store in the fridge. Highly recommended if you haven't tried this yet! read more

Im dinging two stars because they added a tipping menu after purchase for some reason. It's not even a restaurant and kind of ridiculous to add tipping to a Japanese chocolate gift shop. The chocolates here are amazing! I was able to sample the Nama Chocolates: Matcha, Bitter and Au lait, which was my favorite. These decadent treats are rich, smooth and creamy. I don't usually gravitate towards Matcha, but I enjoyed this one because of the melding of the white chocolate. After sampling, I perused the shop and decided to get a box of the Au lait Nama Chocolate, which comes with a tasting fork, Milk Pure Chocolate and was gifted a milk chocolate bar. The family was happy with this purchase! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Leni was there to help me decide which chocolates to choose from, which enhanced my shopping experience. She also educated me on the use of the tasting fork that can be used for eating the Nama Chocolate, cheese and using the spoon side for ice cream. I'm sure I'll think of other uses for it. I've purchased items from Royce before, but did not have the appreciation for the chocolates until this visit. These chocolates are meant to be savored. read more

Came here for a Yelp Elite Event this year and it was once again amazing! Megan was wonderful and very knowledgeable about the chocolates. She had a sampling menu of three Nama chocolates: Matcha, Au Lait, and Bitter. All three were delicious. Nama chocolates are made in Hokkaido, Japan, which is known for its dairy. The texture is softer than a typical bar chocolate and the flavor builds as you eat the chocolate. Each of these have 1% or less liquor, which is burned off while they're made. They have other flavors as well, I ended up buying the whiskey Nama and the Au Lait Nama chocolates. They had a special sale, so I received a free chocolate bar with my purchase and also a free Royce fork. Thank you Royce and Yelp! I will be back. read more

Simply stated, these are some of the best chocolates I have ever had, and I have had chocolates from around the world. They are Japanese chocolates, and they actually make them in Japan. I actually despise going to the mall to the point I have not been there for more than four years, and I would indeed go to the mall just to buy these chocolates. While they are so high-end that they don't allow samples, I can guarantee that you will love them. Everything is so well done that they are very smooth and perfectly balanced An example is of the chocolates in the refrigerated case. They have a cocoa powder around them, and many of them have an alcohol in them. I actually do not like chocolates with a cocoa powder around them because they just end up too bitter and I really hate whiskey. But the dark chocolate one they have with whiskey in it is absolutely amazing. I don't know how they made the cocoa powder so perfect but it's delightful and the whiskey is so perfectly balanced, it is just right... It is super light and just perfectly done. And when you bite into it, it has this cool, buttery texture to it that is addicting. There is a chocolate that is in a dark blue package on the shelf, that is 68% chocolate and it is so smooth and velvety, I make myself take tiny little bites, so I can make it last as long as possible since it's such an amazing experience in my mouth. I find malls extremely chaotic, but the moment you step into the store, a sense of calm and Zen takes over because it's so simple and classy. The people that work there are extremely knowledgeable and treat you like you are someone important. They are super professional and know their chocolates extremely well. They are there to give you as much information as you want but also give you as much space as you want. And they are very friendly. A store like this could certainly act very snooty like many do that are high-end. But they are down to earth, and very humble, and very proud of the chocolates. Also, they even put their refrigerated chocolates in special packaging so that you can be out and about for 3 to 4 hours before having to put it in your refrigerator so they stay good. Who has that kind of service anymore? Gotta love it. I hope you do give it a try, because you will be very very happy. And yes, I will make a trip back and endure my hatred of malls just to get more of this chocolate. Enjoy!! read more

Okay, I had never heard of Royce chocolates and am now a big fan. This place is definitely gourmet and both the environment and the products reflect that. I came here for a Yelp Experience and tasted 3 products. The man helping me was most gracious. He had my samples all laid out and expertly described each of the three items I sampled. I ask a lot of questions and he knew all the answers. I learned that the dairy products for these chocolates are from the Japan Hokkaido region that is known for this. I tasted the Pure Chocolate Venezuela Bitter, the Nama Chocolate Islay Whisky confection (my favorite!) and a Baton Cookie Fromage which apparently contains Parmesan and Gouda cheeses (would never know this) with white chocolate on one side. Very yummy. Each one was very tasty and I could have eaten at least a half dozen of each of these items. I ended up buying a Chocolate Bar (Black-Dark), Nama Chocolate Ghana Bitter and Chocolat No Shiki Hokkaido variety pack which contains a few of most of their offerings. The Nama I bought was without the Whisky added. I definitely liked the one I sampled with the Islay Whisky better but this one is also delicious. All of the products I tried were top notch and deserving of a try by anyone who likes gourmet chocolates. read more

I was here for the Yelp Elite chocolate tasting experience and it was such delight!! the set up was neat and simple and suited the overall ambiance of the store! The lady at the store did a great job explaining to me the history of Royce Chocolates and helped me pick out the chocolates I wanted to purchase. Such a wide variety, so hard to choose!! To all my chocolate lovers out there, if you haven't tried Royce chocolates yet, you must!!! The quality of the chocolate is rich and smooth and delicious and makes for a perfect gift! One of the samples i tried was the whiskey flavored nama chocolate, which may be a good choice for Father's Day. From the samples, I personally liked the white chocolate Parmesan baton. It was an I interesting and slightly odd combination but it works!! It tasted so good. I'm a huge fan of orange chocolate and the petite truffle did not disappoint my friends!! Stopped in for the sampling and can I say I didn't know there was chocolate to this stature. The sampler consisted of a Matcha, a creamy chocolate and a dark chocolate. The matcha was(as were all of them) creamy and a mild flavor of matcha. Though I'm not a matcha fan the chocolate itself was very tasty. The best seller(creamy chocolate) is that for a reason. The dark is by far my favorite. Had many flavor notes, but the bitterness came through better than most dark chocolates that I have ever tried. Now some might walk in and look at the prices and think they are a bit on the pricey side, but I can assure you. For the flavor, the process and the labor that goes into making these, it is more than fair(chilled boxes are just under $20. Alexa who handles our tasting was both delightful and knowledgeable. Walking us through both the flavor profile and ingredients of each were very interesting. I never knew this place existed and we were sure to pick up a couple different flavors before we left. We chose the bitter, creamy, strawberry, and matcha from the cold, as well as a dark chocolate box and a variety box from the warm shelf. Can't wait to try them all!! read more

I come here often just to window shop because they look nice and fancy:) This time, I ended trying a sampler box of different dark chocolate from different countries. The box itself was pretty and the packaging is also really nice. There are 4 different types in the box. You definitely can taste the difference which was fun because before this, I didn't they would be different considering they are all 70% dark chocolate. 2 of them were Definitely lighter than the other 2 and one of them has a more tart flavor. Pleasantly surprised how delicious these chocolates are. I'm not big on chocolate, but perfect timing to visit this place because it was shark week. Ghana bitter: dark chocolate, rich and flavorful. Au Lait: milk chocolate, creamy and smooth. Matcha: not too sweet and tasted just like matcha. It was not overpowering. It's hard to choose which was the best, they all were great. There's definitely a bit of a price tag for the amount you get, but worth trying it out. It's definitely not a eat in one sitting kind of candy. Savor the flavor. I also bought the pistachio bar and Darjeeling chocolate, because the gals said it was there fav. Overall, I liked it and a nice treat every once in a while. When I walked into this place, I was immediately greeted by one of the employees who offered me a sample of their strawberry chocolate, which is seasonal. The chocolate is not like your average "hard snap" chocolate. The texture is almost like a truffle. It is very smooth and creamy. They have all types of main flavors plus 5 seasonal flavors, including orange and white chocolate peach. A package costs $20 dollars. This would be great to bring over as a gift to a friends house of at home by yourself with a glass of wine! They use this Hokkaido dairy, which comes from an area in northern Japan that is very temperate, which ends up producing delicious tasting dairy, which in turn makes great chocolate. They have so many flavors - i didn't see if they had this in their store, but if they had a variety pack, it would be awesome so you could try a little bit of everything. We went home with their whisky chocolate. It isn't a strong whisky flavor, but you do get a bit of a whisky aftertaste. read more

TL;DR: words don't do the chocolates any justice. You need a box, trust me. Maybe even two boxes... I had this place on the top of my list for a trip I had planned to Japan. BUT, my trip got canceled...twice. One for the typhoon that happened and the other time was for the pandemic. I was so disappointed and was super salty about not being able to rebook my flight! I haven't been able to rebook my trip since because Japan still isn't open and I was really excited when I found that there was a ROYCE' Chocolate here on the eastside! *tears of joy* Located on the second floor of the Bellevue Square Mall just outside of Macy's. Parking: nearby parking garages. Best to park near Macy's for minimum walking distance. Atmosphere: The interior of the store is so clean and crisp and almost reminds me of a makeup counter but for chocolate! But I wouldn't mind getting this on my face either, haha! Service: you will be greeted, offered a sample, and be verbally given info on the chocolate. There are seasonal flavors so make sure you nab something! You won't be disappointed! The chocolates I purchased came with a small ice pack and insulated packaging that would keep the sweets cool for up to 3 hours - all neatly packed in a cute pink Royce' drawstring bag and placed in a paper gift bag. Packaging was above and beyond my expectations. For the quality and quantity and packaging of these sweets, the price is really reasonable! The Nama Chocolates I tried were so decadent and buttery smooth! The best texture of chocolate I've had and the fact that they need to be refrigerated tells you just how fresh these chocolates taste! "Nama" means "fresh". So cool how they use Hokkaido milk in the Nama Chocolate line - you can taste the smoothness and richness! Ghana Bitter: my favorite. It was sweet but had a satisfying, muted dark chocolate aftertaste. Au Lait: chocolate for the chocolate lover. Very uniformly flavored with no aftertaste. Matcha: very sweet with a creamy aftertaste of green tea. I personally would like a stronger matcha flavor. Orange and Mango: seasonal flavor and I was not disappointed! Smooth, rich, and tastes almost like orange creamsicle! Was not too overpowering in sweetness either, which was surprising to me. Ranking from sweet to most sweet: Orange and Mango, Ghana Bitter, Au Lait, Matcha. I ended up purchasing the Nama Chocolate seasonal flavor Orange and Mango and was not disappointed! I'm not usually a big chocolate person but the chocolate here is really really good and I'm happy Yelp had a tasting here as otherwise I would not have known to try it. I tried three different chocolates: a Ghana bitter dark chocolate, an Au Lait milk chocolate and a matcha chocolate. All of the chocolates I tried are blended with Hokkaido fresh cream so even though I usually like milk chocolate better the dark chocolate was easily my favorite as the cream made it a lot less bitter than dark chocolate usually is and it was delicious! These three chocolates are also always refrigerated so I liked how cold they were as that added to the experience of how they tasted. After tasting them I did buy the Ghana bitter one only I bought a version that has a little bit of cognac in it as the extremely kind employee said that was her favorite. The chocolate is pretty expensive but sometimes you gotta treat yourself. It comes with 20 pieces so I will just have a single piece a night and let the taste linger. If you are a chocolate fan I strongly recommend trying the chocolate here. read more
