Roy's has always been one of the shops I visited as a kid to get a quick inner tube, and service was always great even though I was only spending a few bucks. Well, yesterday I purchased an e-bike for my wife's Mother's Day gift and customer service was top notch! We were quickly greeted on the sales floor by Mike. Within minutes we were out test riding bikes in the back lot. Mike was very knowledgeable on the bike's components and answered all of our questions. We also spoke with Lala, who was so sweet and patient. She helped my wife setup the e-bike app on her phone and helped her pick out the perfect helmet. I went to Roy's today to upgrade my cassette and tire repair, I had questions during the repair. John worked on my bike, he took the time to explain to me the needed repairs (rear brake pads) and the front pads were good for now, but we should keep a watch on them. I had more questions about my derailleur and chain maintenance, John took his time with me, answered my questions displayed patience as I am new to cycling, I just bought a used bike 4 months ago and started riding at 69 years old. I found their shop professional and courteous, Mike (owner) stepped in a few times to answer questions and explained his search on his computer for my needed parts. Visited Roy's Cyclery on Monday, June 17 around 3pm . When I walked in two gentleman were having an unrelated bike conversation. I walked the shop for 10-15min when what I believe was the non-employee motioned to the employee that I may need assistance. The employee rudely stated, "He doesn't have any questions." Clearly a sign of racial discrimination. Why wouldn't I have questions walking into a cycling shop to inquire about two E-bikes. If you are of any ethnicity avoid Roy's shop because your money is not green to them. read more

I had done a tune-up at Roy Cyclery within the last week and came back to buy a water bottle and a cellphone holder. While I was there, Tanner noticed that my rear wheel was loose. Even though I was mid-ride and not there for a repair, he went out of his way to fix it right away. Since I had purchased the water bottle, he even gave me a cold water, which was a nice touch on a hot day. His excellent customer service really stood out! I did overhear an older lady speaking to customers and employees in a condescending way, which wasn't great. But she's not a reflection of the rest of the team, who have always been professional and helpful. I'll definitely keep coming back for all my cycling needs. read more

I did the Tour de Foothills century last weekend, and one of the main reasons it went well was Roy's Cyclery. I came down from Sacramento to do the ride, but forgot to pack my cycling socks, and only had generic athletic socks on hand. The morning of the ride, before the time the store regularly opens, the owner was on site, learned that I was in need, and was kind enough to open his store early so that I could purchase a proper pair of cycling socks. So SO disappointed to see the lackadaisical response by the Roy's team during the pandemic. While once a fervent and enthusiastic customer, I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future, and it breaks my heart. I had SUCH a great experience buying bikes with my husband at Roy's. Of course, being the epic dumbass that I am, I left the garage door open one afternoon and my husband's bike got stolen. In an effort to assuage my guilt, I called Roy's to purchase a replacement Specialized bicycle - I didn't think twice about continuing my patronage with such friendly and knowledgeable staff. I called, spoke to a teammate, and they held a suitable replacement for me. A couple hours later, I drive over to Upland to complete the purchase. To my horror, I show up, and 0% of the employees nor their patrons were wearing masks. There's posted signage about hand sanitizer and social distancing, but no one had the general courtesy to mask up. I awkwardly stand outside and - look, I'm just sort of an awkward person in general - so one of the staff members beckons for me to come inside. I quickly explain how uncomfortable I feel being exposed, I ask them to lift the hold on my bike, and I leave. From my car, I longingly look back to the Roy's storefront, wishing that I hadn't just experienced what I had experienced. I genuinely loved being a patron of Roy's, and I am truly, deeply bummed that politics and divisiveness would jeopardize my safe shopping experiences during a pandemic. read more

I have an older bike that I ride back and forth to the train station. I needed a tube replaced. They replaced my tube, adjusted the gears (it shifts great now) and had the brakes adjusted. John refused to do anything that wasn't necessary. My bike rides great and I fell like I got a really great deal. I was in here to look for bike seats on a regular Tuesday and no one greeted me nor offered their assistance. There was one, maybe two customers in the store at the time. There wasn't much of a selection anyway. Even if I saw something to buy, I'd have to think if I'd want to spend my hard-earned money there. I still have "old-fashioned" values where store employees greet customers and ask if they need help within a timely fashion of entering the store. That only takes seconds to do. read more

I purchased a bike on 7-13-24 and employee Mike assisted me with my purchase. Even though I knew what I was going to buy and I knew they had the bike in stock (saw the bike on their website) Mike was super friendly and informative. Asked me question to make sure I was buying a bike suited for me (being I had only been riding a borrowed bike for five months) and described the bike to me like a pro. I sensed Mike cares about his clients making sure we are aware of what we are buying and for the correct reasons. He had me ride the bike on the sidewalk and adjusted my seat to the correct height so I would be ready to ride. read more

Stopped in tonight 12/9/20 around 3PM and was taken back that the 4 employees were not wearing a mask or distancing, then two other customers doing the same! I was the only one in the shop with a mask and could not get out of there soon enough. Should I have called them out, walk out, or...? I really want to support my local businesses, but if they are not supporting the safety of the general public during a pandemic (killing 3,000 Americans daily), then I don't need them and will give my support and money to those who do support public safety. #shame read more
