We were greeted and seated immediately, with only a few other patrons for lunch. I ordered the salmon avocado roll and salmon maki, as well as a lychee martini. Standard sushi spot in the east side. Your typical midtown sushi for the corporate workers or local residents. Nothing that stands out but is good for a meal in the area. Wouldn't say its big portions but a standard combo meals would be the way to go here. Terriyaki with a california roll. Also the rolls were standard, which we had the rainbow roll and salmon avocado. I'd rate Dai Hachi three and a half stars. Neighborhood sushi spot. Great for a sick bite. We shared the salmon / avocado and the tuna / avocado rolls. Both includes six pieces per order and were $8 each. Order was ready quickly. They had two single occupancy restrooms which were spacious. They had a few drafts including Asahi and Sapporo served from the special tap machines. They had a solid selection of Japanese whiskies too. read more

They had a happy hour all day with some cocktails for $8 so I tried the LIC Guava, it didn't seem to really have much of a guava taste and just tasted like juice. The taste was also disappointing because the balance of rice and fish was off. The Christmas roll fell apart all the time. The spicy tuna pizza looked amazing. The colors were very beautiful. Unfortunately the raw onions did not fit this dish and I'm not an onion hater! The crust was not good since it tastes too indepent from the sushi and avocado. This was a small little find in the upper 50s on the east side. The only thing was I didn't know they closed at 10 pm on Fridays and we arrived at 9 pm. The sushi was so delicious as well as the Kirin light. They went so well together. The wait staff was very nice as well and that was a plus.
