Truly a gem in the rough, I almost don't want to share though I have to give props to the Goal Omakase staff for enhancing my culinary journey with their delicious food. Take out or delivery only, they provide options at several price points so it could be for a simpler solo meal or a fancier night in with friends. The latter was the scenario where I enjoyed their fresh, flavorful sushi: - bluefin tuna tartar $15: topped with tri-color roe, savory though a little lighter in flavor compared to the nigiri, still delectable! This came with a few fried seaweed chips, could've used a few more chips for the amount of tartar. - spicy maki trio $25: flavor profiles are similar for these 3 rolls (6 pieces each)--tuna, salmon and yellowtail, all tasty and with plenty of fish, fair balance of spice. - omakase for two $116: this is a treat! 24 pieces of premium nigiri (12 pieces of the same x2) with a snow crab California roll and jumbo toro roll, and 2 miso soup or side salads. The seafood was super fresh, flavor pairings were very good, the nigiri are in the style of popular omakase spots these days, with a brush of sauce or little sprinkle of accoutrements on each piece. Extremely fresh. No goofy garnishes, just clean cuts. You get to choose between a toro roll or snow crab roll--crab's solid, but for me toro wins every time. Miso soup was decent, nothing crazy. What I like about Goal Sushi is the way they set up their menu. A range of price points, plus sauce options from citrus aioli to yuzu miso, so you can tailor the box to your vibe. I got two lunch set, the sushi set - 6 pieces of chef's choice nigiri and tuna roll, and the 2 roll set - I chose eel avocado and yellowtail scallion. Each piece of nigiri was delicious. I started with the tamago egg nigiri first, because it's usually pretty lackluster to me, but I was pleasantly surprised! It tasted like there was some pieces of nori in the egg and it was seasoned very well. My favorite was the toro because I prefer fattier fish. My next favorite was the eel avocado roll. As one of the choices on the 2 roll lunch set option, I thought this was a really good pick! The portion was good and it was surprisingly filling. The yellowtail scallion was yummy too, but not as filling. The service was quick and friendly and this makes for a great takeout sushi place in UES! Primarily a takeout spot. There is a very small counter with two seats you can sit and eat if you would like. The view is not great, it's that of the trash. I decided to go all out and try the goal omakase premium , which had ten pieces of nigiri and a Negi tuna roll. The presentation was pretty and fish was actually quite good and fresh. They had some interesting toppings for omakase. I wish they provided some details about each fish / topping. The only downfall was that the rice was a little too vinegary, which distracted the flavor of the fish. The rice was also too wet. I would come back and try the lunch special. read more

Let me just say -- the rating is legit! In my ongoing question to find NYC sushi that exists somewhere between the heaps of cheap / low quality takeout spots and high end, super expensive omakase bars, I'm thrilled to have found Goal. Their name includes Omakase -- and admittedly I'm yet to try their omakase -- but i can tell you that their fish is fresh, really good, and reasonably priced. I've tried a bunch of their rolls and everything has been great. I've tried some sushi pieces as well -- also quality and fresh. I have no reason to assume their omakase wouldn't also be very solid.
