I am a huge fan of Roy's Restaurants, but this one is different. We are big Roy's fans, but this location lacks the friendly-Hawaiian atmosphere you'd expect at Roys. It's sterile, more of a cafeteria vibe and generally unwelcoming. We waited an about 5-10 minutes to be greeted by someone upfront and seated in the noisy bar with the afternoon golfers even though the entire restaurant was open. The food was disappointing as well and very unusual for Roys. The prix fix special Was a play on surf and turf- short rib and grilled shrimp. It was tough and stringy meat, with dry overcooked shrimp- also it was served in a bowl which seamed like an odd plating choice since I had to use a knife bad fork to cut the meat, which is difficult in a bowl! I assumed it would at least be short rib with an Asian flavor profile- but unfortunately it was not. More like grandmas meat and potatoes style which would have been fine in a winter setting, not Hawai'i and not Roy's! Overall just an expensive disappointment- save your money! read more

I love coming here when we end our trips to Maui! The food here is flavorful, consistent, and the service is ALWAYS top notch! The staff are always very personable even though they're always short since Covid and then the Lahaina fire. They have wonderful work ethics and you don't see people standing around. They help each other out and when you need something anyone will be willing to help you. Besides the service the two other main reasons I gave Roy's a 5 start rating is their Misoyaki butterfish and how accommodating they were for my daughter. The butterfish is always cooked to perfection every time I go there it's flaky and the miso flavoring is never over powering. Our server said that they marinate their fish for 72hrs to help ensure that the fish absorbs the flavor and the few times they ran out people actually left. Yes it's that good and I'm not a big fish eater too! Secondly they always take care of the keiki! The menu is small for the kids but they get a 3 course meal! It starts with veggies and a quesadilla followed by this main course and lastly followed by ice cream! Best of all our server let us modify our daughter's main course to how ever she wanted it. So she got chicken strips with fries and it was all really good! We always make it a point to make reservations before we go here and to make sure we get seated in the event that it rains and luaus get cancelled. read more

This was my first stop on my Lahaina vacation, as Roy's was near my hotel! They have a very beautiful sunset view. When I dine I like to ask waitstaff their favorite foods. Both the hostess and my waitperson said the Misoyaki Butterfish was their favorite. When I tell you that fish melted the second it hit my mouth. WOW. The miso flavor is offset by a bit of caremelly sweetness that doesn't overpower the light fish. It was so, so goood! I also must highlight the ahi tuna in butter sauce. We enjoyed the meals , but very surprised on how a well know high class restaurant would run out of food , we were celebrating my husband birthday, my bday and anniversary and flew to Maui to try Roy's honey short ribs and he had to settle with fried chicken since server said they ran out of short ribs which was a disappointment since he has been eating chicken ever since our 2 night stay in Maui, which our stay was not as great due to to power outage also in the island had that went on whole day from like 7pm all the way to the next day at 12n, we would of loved for both us to try Roy's honey short ribs which I told my husband we just going to end up having to do a 4hr drive to Vegas to try Roy's ribs , and We also ordered the lava cake to celebrate my husband bday which did not look presentable compared to the photos we saw posted on Yelp in came with chocolate syrup every where and not put well together which I thought all that chocolate comes out from lava cake once we cut it but at-least they were nice to compensate that Charge and catch that themselves without us saying anything about it but then again sever did bring out a Hawaiian ice cream saying Happy Birthday on the plate which it was actually a nice surprise which ice cream was incredible and with the reason of being there to celebrate our anniversary and both our birthdays since to us this is splurged restaurant since we are not people who can really afford this types of meals but for the occasion we do . The ambiance is not reflective of the quality of food or the service we received. We arrived a little early for our 7:30 reservation and sat at the bar enjoying a cocktail until our table was ready. You're in a golf course setting so the decor is befitting its location. Immediately upon being seated we were served a small dish of edamame which were yummy. We had brought a bottle of wine with us and the wine was immediately placed in a tableside chiller. We always take note of how the wine is served, and how attentive the server is in topping us off. Our server was excellent at keeping our wine refreshed and appropriately refilling each glass. The corkage fee was $30, which is totally reasonable. We chose the Bbq glazed ribs and coconut shrimp as appetizers and they did not disappoint. The ribs literally fell off the bone, and the hoisin sauce was amazing! Hubby ordered the Rib Eye entree, and I selected the Macadamia crusted Mahi Mahi. We each thoroughly enjoyed our choice but I think the fish was a standout. It was served with a delicious orzo, perfectly cooked asparagus and two sauces. One sauce was a beurre blanc and the other was a lovely lobster butter. We had asked our server to really pace out the timing so we could just enjoy our wine(Frank Family Lewis Vineyard Chard), and the delicious food. Our server was very attentive without being overly so. We felt we received great hospitality and delicious food for the price point. I wish we could remember our server's name but we're pretty bad at the name thing! If you're looking for white tablecloth seating, in a dimly lit room, this will not fit the bill. So sad. Roy's used to be a family favorite. We had a sunset timed reservation tonight, and despite SIX empty, cleared and set tables near the front windows we were seated in the back, dark, window-less corner. When I asked if we could be seated near the window the hostess said we'd need to wait for 30 minutes. Ummm, why? The place was nearly empty. The restaurant has removed several tables and is not operating anywhere near capacity. We opted for just apps instead of a full dinner and watched as all but one of the window tables remained vacant. We took a picture of this fish which looked amazing at first, but as we cut it, we realized it was raw, along with another fish keiki dish we had. Totally unacceptable for food to be raw. Everything else was fine. Lighting inside wasn't good as we went for dinner. Very dark atmosphere. We did not have a good experience. My 5 y/old daughter was served (and drank) orange juice that tasted like it had champagne in it. We saw the bartender, manager, hostess, and server all sipping it and making faces, then examining the bottle. The waitress brought a fresh OJ but initially didn't provide any information about what my daughter had drank. When I asked, she said it was fermented OJ-- but the manager later told us it was just grapefruit juice (it may have been fermented, it clearly was not grapefruit juice). The cherry on top, though, was that the restaurant had the audacity to charge us for the adulterated/spoiled drink There were other issues as well- they didn't acknowledge that it was a birthday dinner, though we noted that on the reservation, did not have bread or pasta (though it was on the Kiki menu), and the ambiance just was not on par with the $500 we paid for the meal. We went to Roy's to celebrate our 45th anniversary last night. We had gone maybe 10 years ago and remembered it fondly. Had a nice table seated right away. Service was good but not exemplary. When an expediter serves a party of two they should know who gets what. Also they didn't acknowledge our anniversary with a dessert or verbal congratulation. Our dishes were amazing. We usually eat at Roy's Waikiki so we decided to try this location since we were in the area. I got a reservation the same night which was great. We arrive a little early and the place didn't appear very busy. The food was good but the wait time in between courses were long. My husband and I got the Prixe Fixe menu and our kids got the chicken tenders and butter pasta. Our kids always enjoy their appetizer of cheese quesadillas, veggie sticks, and grapes. I noticed around us, there were 3 other tables of also waiting for their food. All of our meals for our tables came out at the same time. The blackened ahi caesar salad was delicious. I should've just gotten that as an entree because I loved it so much. The entree consisted of tiger shrimp (2), braised short rib, and Yukon gold potatoes. The meal was good but because we waited quite a while for it to come out, the crispy calamari appetizer tamed our appetite so I was forcing myself to finish my potatoes. Overall the food was ok. The service was ok. The ambiance is not the same as Roy's Waikiki, Roy's Ko Olina, and Roy's Hawaii Kai. It felt more casual. read more

Service was good, a bit slow at times but overall that wasn't the issue. Compared to other restaurants in the area, the food was just okay but came with high price tag. Atmosphere is sterile, not much decor or ambiance. My child, who is obsessed with pasta, took one bite of the kids pasta and said she didn't like it. It was very watery and bland. Yesterday, was our second time at Roy's Kaanapali for dinner. I ordered the short ribs which were really fatty. Came with standard mixed steamed vegetables and au gratin potatoes ( really good). On the other hand, my husband ordered a "medium rare" filet mignon which was clearly not cooked, served over garlic mashed potatoes ( who had may too much garlic in it ) and same steamed vegetables. This was one of my favorite restaurants. I am so disappointed. I will likely never return. We ordered drinks. My partner ordered an old fashion. It came with a maraschino cherry. I understand that Luxardo cherries are expensive, but if you are going to offer old fashion on your menu you should do it right. The ambiance in the restaurant felt like Denny's. Gone are the low lights, now it is bright and cheap feeling. We were celebrating a birthday. They brought a bowl of ice cream. In the past when I came for an anniversary dinner they brought a piece of cake with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate. You can never go wrong with Roy's, especially the Maui one! Located on the 18th hole of the Kanapali golf course, this is a great restaurant with an even better view. The complimentary edamame to start is always so addicting! I always enjoy the blackened ahi appetizer with the spicy mustard dipping sauce. The butterfish is what they are known for and is so good. The fish just falls off when you barely touch it. The macadamia crusted ono was also a table hit, as it was paired with a rosemary lobster bisque which was great. We asked to substitute our white rice for the garlic fried rice and highly recommend this. Now this location does not have the pineapple upside down cake but be sure to check out the ube cheesecake. read more

I wish the calamari was the rings and tentacles. Instead it was the frozen food service battered ones with a lot of sauce. The ribs were good and so were the drinks. I also liked the soufflé. I thought this was a nice fancy place, esp with the prices, but the first thing you see when you walk in is an island bar with a TV on both sides (one was playing sports, the other playing Simpson's), which is an instant mood/vibe-killer for me because I felt like I was at a sports bar. In terms of dress code - people were dressed up nicely for this place, so it overall felt like a fancy sports bar. The food itself was ok. The coconut shrimp and blackened ahi were great. The misoyaki butterfish was way too salty and sitting in a bath of soy vinaigrette. The beef short ribs was just two chunks of meat, no bone/rib (I personally like having the meat still on the rib bone). Looking at the menu now, I wouldn't be surprised if they just gave us the "boneless braised short rib" from the kids menu. read more

We went to Roy's as the one splurge meal we were having on our Maui vacation. The food was very good. The ambience was underwhelming. We have been to the Roy's in San Diego which felt so much more upscale. We had a cocktail and a craft beer that were good. The edemame was complimentary and was well seasoned. We had the crispy calamari and ahi tuna appetizers which were both above average in terms of flavor, presentation and textures. We shared the 12 ounce ribeye entree. For only an up charge of $3, we had two plates with a good amount of mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. The steak was cooked to perfection (medium) and the sides were tasty. I did clean up my plate. It was a very good experience but not a great one for our one expensive meal in over a week. read more

The Roy's restaurant franchise/chain is my favorite restaurants to visit whenever I visit Hawaii. Find reservations online is challenging so staying nearby I physically visit to make restaurant. On the occasion, Junior took care of me. He made my restaurant and later greeted me when I arrive for my restaurant. Nice personal touch. My wait person made recommendations per my request but opt for my favorite dish, braised short rib. I must admit I was sticker shock . It's been a few years since my last visit and the price had gone up significantly. But I went for it and hope to have space for dessert. A reoccurring thing to have sweets to conclude my meal. There were two honey mustard glazed short ribs with steamed vegetables and three cheese potato gratin. The latter I truly enjoyed and would love more. The star of the plate was savored and ate only one piece to save space for dessert. Always the honey mustard glaze was outstanding. Next the dessert, chocolate toffee mousse cake. We made reservations for lunch here which happens to be located in/on a really nice golf course. There's a decent sized parking lot for everybody to get where they need to go. The place is super clean and full of natural light and windows where we did some people watching on the green lol. Ambiance is laid back yet sophisticated with moderate noise level. We started with some drinks and appeteazers that were all above par(pun intended). I had the breeze on the green which was refreshing with a cucumber forward crisp taste. The sushi was pretty good but the fried calamari and shrimp and pork mandoo would stand out in any crowd, I mean wow. I have to take the time to thank out waitress for helping us decide on those choices. For the main dish I ordered a loco moco which could've been seasoned better but I finished it so I can't complain. My love interest however ordered the butterfish which was my other choice and I'd be damned it was perfect.. id suggest going ahead and ordering that if you're ever on the fence about it.
