I think the word I'm looking for is mediocre. Idk, either I've become quite picky or service and all else are really sub-flippin-par. Service was ok and the food was just the same, however it's possible the service had a slight impact on the food in my opinion. We ordered our appetizers and meal at the same time. While I enjoy great timing, this timing was pretty questionable. I mean my vegetable noodles came out literally 3 minutes after I placed the freaking order...AND WITH A FREAKING FORK ON THE PLATE. Yea, it was just vegetables and noodles and I was a few glasses of wine (from home) in at this point, but still.... I wasn't pleased with much of anything but the spring rolls. Ok let's be honest, this is a place for quantity over quality. The food is ok, but there is a LOT of it, and every now and then that's what you want. They have a lot of combo options that will make sure you do NOT leave hungry. I don't think anyone can knock them from the plating either. I ordered delivery on a Friday evening, and sampled a sweet potato tempura roll and the vegetable futo maki, both of which were great. However, the stand-out was the fried garlic maki- a plain roll stuffed with a whole fried garlic clove that made for a decadent, flavorful bite along with a dip of yum yum sauce and a helping of wakame. Disclaimer: I have only eaten here via UberEats so I can't comment on the service. There's only a handful of sushi place I've been to in ATL, but Ru Sans is consistently on my list for cheap and decent sushi in Atlanta. Some of the rolls are priced as low as $2.50 for 3 pieces - which is a crazy low price. However, despite the seemingly suspicious low price tag, the sushi is pretty good and you can get a few rolls off the menu without breaking the bank (which is a HUGE plus when I'm craving sushi but I don't want to spend too much money eating out). My favorite sushi item is the Pearl Harbor Sushi Bomb. Aside from the terrible name, the whole roll is deep fried, has shrimp tempura, and some sweet and spicy sauce on top. Even though I had it delivered to me, it was still crispy, so I imagine if you get it in person it'll be even more delicious. I haven't tried anything else off the menu aside from the sushi, but I'm keen to try the katsu here next time because I haven't found a good place in ATL yet. read more

We've heard ownership has changed and the menu had also changed. Went there tonight for the ahi poke tuna and were told it's no longer available, even though we've had it twice in the last month there and it's no longer on the menu. So we decided to try the California sunset roll with salmon and tuna and roe. We also ordered veggie goyza and crab rangoon. There was no salmon in our roll, it was all tuna and the quality of the tuna was very questionable - had some very slimy and fishy pieces. The veggie goyza looked liked fried, brownish-green you-know-what. See the pics. We spent $50 on this meal, which isn't a problem when the food is good quality. 5 pieces of sushi per roll (ordered 2 rolls) 6 veggie goyza, 4 crab Rangoon. They love me! I've never felt more welcomed to a new spot. I was warmly greeted with smiles from ear to ear. They were happy to see me & I could feel it. It was midday on a Saturday and they were packed. It didn't take them long to seat me at the bar. The interior was beautiful. The open kitchen is a unique touch. Even the chefs were cheerful. I checked out the drink menu and saw a few interesting options. My server informed me of the cocktails that were half sake half margherita mix. Really? That sounds tasty. I ordered the Mango Tango and I am so glad I did! It was like biting into a ripe mango. Absolutely delicious. I decided on the scallop fried rice. Sounded interesting enough. Scallops, zucchini, squash, onions, carrots, peas and eggs. This dish was as beautiful as it was fulfilling. I was satisfied. But just when I was about to ask for my ticket.... My server brought out a beautifully decadent fried ice cream display. She saw it was my birthday when she checked my ID earlier. I had no idea. She and 2 chefs sang happy birthday to me. I feel weird reviewing RuSans, mostly because my friends and I used to eat it all the time during college and fully knew that it was like the Denny's of the Asian cuisine world. You're not coming here for quality food; you're coming because a group of you managed to find $10 in change in the car and you're all gonna share a big plate of cheap sushi. BUT, returning as a (sorta) full adult without the poor college student goggles on, I realize how gross this place is (and probably always was). Grimey is probably most accurate. When you enter, there is a militant woman guarding the door that won't let you in without a mask. I'm not a chest-beating "COVID aint real" subscriber, BUT this restaurant is just one big room (like literally the size of some folks living rooms)....why wear the mask for the 5 feet it takes to get to your table and then take it off? When we asked if we could just sit outside (because one in our party forgot his mask (the doctor ironically)), she said "we don't come outside". Umm...alright then? There's an Urgent Care right next door, and they were giving out masks, so we got one and returned. We got a super sticky booth and looked at the menu that someone must've typed up on Microsoft Word 95, and noticed that there are random signs taped all around the restaurant. The most indignant of the signs is that "due to COVID there is an 18% surcharge added to each check to compensate servers". Yeeeaa....no. Let me overtip the server if I'd like, don't automatically shank me soon as I sit down. Michael C stopped by and asked if we were ready to order, and one guy in our group committed the cardinal sin of saying he was still deciding. That was the last time Michael C was seen or heard from again. After 12 minutes of us chitchatting (and me getting pretty hangry because Michael C is on the other side of the restaurant geeking it up with some D&D gamers), I flagged down a young lady and asked if she would take our order. She quickly said we weren't her table but that she would our order in for our server. Three minutes later the food came out (yea, I know, odd). It wasn't aesthetically pleasing or filling, but it's cheap and quick. You just wipe off the dirty utensils and hope you don't catch anything and dig in. After we eat and our not-our-server has refilled glasses and checked on us and taken plates away, Michael C popped up and had the unmitigated gall to ask how our food was like he had been there the whole time. Without missing a beat, I asked "why do you want to know? can you send our real server back?" He says that he can take our payments and give them to our not-our-server; I was overruled by my tablemates and Michael C disappeared with our credit cards for a full 10 minutes. I'm thinking he's probably out in the parking lot making copies, but another friend said he could see him sitting down at someone's table and having a laugh. Once we got the cards back (someone stood up and went and asked Michael C to actually swipe the dang things), we rushed out - you start to itch if you sit in RuSans too long. He actually asked if we wanted to leave a tip, like they don't have an 18% gratuity already built into that awful service. If you've got the money, go to a legitimate sushi spot and save this for the folks that have to eat here. read more

I was a little hesitant as the place doesn't look so appealing, nor was the non-existent hostess a good sign. Also, the menu is reminiscent of the Cheesecake Factory's. But once we were seated, our server was friendly and well-meaning, but a little absent-minded. When we arrived the place was pretty packed, but as the night went on it thinned out considerably. My friend ordered some kind of sushi and Kyushu Gomoku Champon - Chuka Egg Noodle in Soy Ramen Soup, Topped with Butter Sauteed Calamari, Scallops, & Shrimp. But he was never given the sushi. Towards the end of our meal when we brought it to the server's attention, she did offer to get the manager but we declined. It wasn't that serious. I ordered: Garlic Sesame Tofu Appetizer - Cooked in Sesame Oil w/chopped Garlic, Green Onion, Shiitake Mushroom, & Wakame and Yasai Soba (Vegetable Only) - Soup with Soba Buckwheat Noodle & Mixed Vegetables. Topped with Spinach. The appetizer was very good and large enough to be an entree. Initially, the server brought out what she told me was my soup. I saw that it was piping hot and I was still working on my appetizer so I did not taste it. Five minutes later she comes with another bowl of soup and states that this one is actually mine. Well thank goodness I didn't try the seafood soup as I'm sure that would not have been a pleasant experience for me. She did apologize though and stated that the soups look alike. More attention needs to be had to this situation, if it is reoccurring. Once the soup had a chance to cool and the flavors meld, it was also really tasty. It actually tasted better the next day. Just ate a ru sans. This used to be my place to go- but I've moved and don't get to come anymore. Just had lunch today and the menu didn't notate that all the lunch spicy rolls came with sauce. The sauce was awful, rolls were room temp and the tuna tasted off. I tried to eat it but it was awful. Told the server who took forever to come check on us and I had to wave her down even though the restaurant wasn't busy. They didn't refund me even though I only ate 4 pieces of 18. I spent 8 years of high and college in Athens going to Ru Sans in the early 2000s. As a poor student, I lived on $1 rolls and my now-husband and I spent many many date nights there. So when we moved back to Georgia this year we knew we had to get for Ru Sans. Not a lot has changed about the menu in 15 years. The $1 maki list has decreased a bit but was still there in all its glory. The fried rice is still made in some kind of magic (or maybe a lot of oil? Same thing). Most of the signature rolls are still the same and still deep-fried. The casual, pseudo sushi vibe is still alive and I still love it. Downsides? The cheaper maki rolls have a TON of rice. Way too much. I feel super wasteful picking at the excess but I'd have to roll my bloated self down the stairs if I ate it all. There are very few of the bigger rolls that aren't fried somehow so if you're a real sushi affectionado you'll probably be disappointed. read more

I am appalled that this restaurant has an item called Pearl Harbor Shrimp Bomb (see photo) in 2021. Take this crap off your menu or name it something else. I wouldn't take my Japanese friends here anyways because the sushi is a disgrace but I would be embarrassed that they would even have to see something like this on a menu. I used to love this place and have gone here for years, but tonight I received the worst service I've ever experience. my husband ordered a soup that he didn't like. they took it to the back to 'fix it', but he was still unsatisfied and didn't eat more than a few bites. We asked the waitress if there was anything she could do. she talked to her manager who offered $2 off of the soup. I asked why we had to pay for a soup that wasn't eaten and she replied all sales are final. the manager claimed she made this rule because too many people were sending back food. this probably explains why the usually busy restaurant was empty on a Friday night. You know, you hear about a sushi Buffett. Your first thought is, hum, gas station sushi. Well let me tell you. This place is awesome. First of all, get here early bc you will see a beautiful display of many different kinds of sushi, tempura, etc. We started with the miso soup which was very tasty and hot. (that's heat hot not spice). I then attacked the sushi Buffett. I tried everything, from the Ahi to the Yellow tail and again, it was all good. What would you pay for 3+ plate fulls of sushi with a soup and salad? $11, is all I paid. What a sweet deal. Good, all you can eat sushi. This was obviously not a secret bc when we left, the place was full and the people were still coming in at lunch time. So, if you want good sushi at a great price, come here and full up. Ru San's used to offer a huge menu of interesting and sometimes wild rolls and sushi. That's gone. It is now a place with a somewhat interesting assortment, but not the former collection by far. Unfortunately, very few of the rolls or sushi let you taste the fish or primary ingredient. Instead, it's smothered with sauces and essentially condiments. They're OK; not great but OK. I would dine here again, if friends really wanted to, but I'd be going for the company not for the food. This restaurant has also managed to become the only Japanese restaurant south of the Arctic that has no hot tea. Or even hot coffee. Sweet tea, water, or alcoholic drinks are what's available. Food is extremely unseasoned and not well made. It is sad because it looks like it's been days old.
