FOOD: I ordered the Inaka Yasai Udon Soup ($10). It was okay -- nothing to write home about but satisfied my craving. I also got a piece of $1 sushi, which was surprisingly pretty good. I don't remember what I had -- I think tuna poke. SERVICE: Okay. Not great, not terrible. I was satisfied -- guy was nice. AMBIANCE: Meh. The staff was friendly. I can't say I will ever go back though. The sushi rolls I ordered weren't worth the $6.00 each. I was really hungry and the aroma smelled divine from the parking lot! Smells can be deceiving, I suppose. Their sushi rolls tasted similar to the grocery store deli. Simple. This place did seem to attract a crowd during lunch time, which led me to believe there mustn't be many options of good Chinese or Japanese in the area OR people just like O.K Asian food. The most controversial sushi place in town. People either love (come to me, my little cheap sushi. mmm.) or hate it (are you kidding me? that buffet sushi's been sitting out, like, forever!). Ru San's to me means happy chefs, a brightly lit interior and a craving that hits at least once a month. Whenever my boyfriend and I go, there's not much talking because he's trying to beat his record of eating 30 pieces of tuna. All the locations throughout the city are a little bit different. The Edgewood one obviously gets bonus points from me as the closest one, but moreso for the lunch buffet. Oh, the beautiful lunch buffet. It's got sushi that you'd never dream of ordering but given the opportunity to get just one piece, it's cool to try the fried ones, and the occasional ones that have crazy fruit or veggies inside. The buffet also usually has fried rice, soup and salad, calamari . . . and it costs $9.50. I just went and missed the lunch buffet by minutes (nooooo!) so I had to order off the menu. Definitely my first time straying from the sneeze guard protected sushi, but I was surprised to see the selection of other lunch options. I got the gyoza lunch, which was exactly what I wanted... soup, salad, rice and dumplings. Final verdict: if you've never been, it's worth going - if only to see if Ru San's makes your heart beat a little faster, or if it makes you want to warn others about the perils of buffet sushi. read more

I am confused by some of the reviews that have been left. I cannot say enough good things about Ru Sans. The service was quick. The servers were polite and helpful. Our original order was way too big. We wouldn't have known this if the servers and the sushi chef had not brought it to our attention. The lobster roll was enough for 3 or 4 people. We made a decision that we wouldn't take sushi home,so we did leave some of the lobster roll. This just about killed my husband. So, here's the thing..... I have been a little hesitant to have sushi in Atlanta, mostly because I wasn't sure if I could trust it, I'm sorry Atlanta, don't hate me. That being said, after hitting up Star Trek at Atlantic Station with all the Yelpers, two plus hours of standing in line and chatting with my fellow nerds left me starving with a hunger that stale popcorn and skittles could not cure. So, we high tailed it out of the theater and headed towards Thai, we call, Thai is closed, so, we head to RuSan's. In retrospect I'm very glad we ended up at RuSan's, while I almost got clipped by a woman in a Honda civic who left her car running, windows down, and small child strapped into a car seat while she ran in for take out(Mother of the year I tell you), I was still stoked to be filling my tummy with food of the sushi variety and imagined all the wonderful rolls that would soon meet their demise in my tummy as we headed up the stairs. As we head into the restaurant everything inside kind of seems like a blur, at 11 pm there is a full sushi bar, a huge group of young college kids, I'd say about 15 deep, and most of the booths are full, as we sit down, a power mix of Madonna's "Beautiful Stranger" starts to thump in my ears, I unfold the menu and my eyes start to twitch. I'm experiencing sensory overload...... Sweet jebus........RuSan's menu is fucking massive, they even have a section of vegetarian sushi, and from a few offerings on the menu I can tell that like all my fave sushi joints in Los Angeles, this Japanese sushi establishment is owned by Koreans. After 3 minutes our waitress heads back over, I have no idea how one would be able to maneuver through such a massive menu in 3 minutes, any who, after a brief moment I have made my decisions. Creme Cheese Maki, Fried Garlic Maki, 1 order of Scallop Tempura. The large group next to us drops two sake bombs while chanting "WHEN I SAY SAKE, YOU SAY BOMB" "SAKE!!" "BOMB" "SAKE" "BOMB" and then our food has arrived, and wow, I'm impressed. One bite of the tight little rolls of cubed creme cheese wrapped in seaweed and sticky sushi rice and I had a foodgasm all over RuSan's. The mix of the wasabi and soy dipping sauce paired with the creme cheese was absolutely what I was looking for. When the Fried Garlic Sushi came I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but there, in the middle of the plate were whole golden brown cloves of garlic, sammiched inside nori and sushi rice. It sounds crazy, but honestly, the texture of the garlic and the delicate flavor of the sushi rice and the mellow fried garlic, it was simply perfection. My only gripe was the tempura scallops, two itty bitty scallops, tempura-ed, and deep fried. My PIC's tempura had a little more of the textural profile I was looking for, mine was a little less crispy and cruncy than I'm used to, but it was all good. The grand total for the evening, $7.02, with tax! I cant believe I managed to have sushi for under 40 bucks. Yes, I have "veggie" sushi now, but still, the price cant be beat. My last gripe with RuSan's is that the place isn't horribly clean and tidy like most sushi joints, there were straw wrappers and napkins all over the floor, I'll let it slide but it defiantly garners 3.5 star review. You know the kind, you find a cool bar/restaurant...have fun, return, have more fun, return even more fun... the laughs never seem to end, you pick up Tech girls, have one on each side, one feeding you drinks, the other feeding you sushi....yadda, yadda, ya. Then the thrill is gone. You look down at was once decent rolls and see rolled slop. The cries for "saki bombs" seem like the chant of the unknowing. The thrill is gone. You try it again. But you get there sorta late, and hey, your mate gets sick all over the side of your shiny rice burner. "We won't be fooled again." Still hope for the Buckhead location...its clientle's is a bit more shiny so their product has to be a bit more up to snuff. There are a couple that will cost a whopping $1.50, but still, ya can't beat it. I like that this location is close to home, so if I'm out running errands or want to meet a friend for a quick bite, it's a fantastic option. I hear they do a lunch buffet that is really good. I've seen it and it looks like it has a ton of nice options, however i haven't actually had it yet. One of these days, I will. I came in today with my daughter who wanted a Shirley Temple to drink. Many times when I ask for this drink, people don't know what it is. So I asked the waitress for a sprite with cherry juice or grenadine. She cut her eyes at me over her face mask and sternly stated, "I know what a Shirley Temple is." Then she walked away. When she came back with our drinks, I started to give my order and she quickly walked away and sat at a table to my right slightly behind me. I have been to this Ru Sans several times over the past few years. I really enjoy the menu items better than their sushi lunch buffet. Quality over quantity! My favorites on the menu are their fried rice and noodle soups. Their sushi is okay, not as fresh compared to some other sushi restaurants. Service has always been average to above average. I got their sushi buffet 8/23/18. It was good for the price, especially if you are very hungry. However, I found most of the sushi rolls were fried and had a lot of sushi rice as fillers. They did offer the basic nigiri such as tuna and salmon. I enjoyed the fried rice, pot stickers, and some kind of cream dessert they had on the buffet. Some of the sushi rolls were very good, but definitely more quality items on the menu. One thing I did not like - when I dined here previously on a weekday afternoon around 3 pm, they were shutting down the lunch buffet. We were told we could not order it, even though we understood they were no longer refilling the buffet. We watched them throw bins full of sushi away when we and another table would have gladly paid for the left over food. Seems such a waste of good food. The interior is okay and pretty clean, open, and bright. This Ru Sans is located off Moreland Avenue, so there is plenty of shopping around if you want to walk off your food. read more

You *could* have an ultra-traditional sushi meal here, but RuSans is much more well known for their more innovative sushi varieties. I mean, where else are you going to find a "Crunchy Muy Bueno" maki? (And it is muy bueno.) Service tends to be quicker at the sushi bar, and the buffet is worth checking out. The music is often kind of weird, and sometimes distracting. High energy K-pop, or J-pop, or some other anime-derived thing... Still, I'll look forward to my next visit here. I haven't been to a Ru San's in forever and when my friend group had suggested it for cheap eats I was a little reluctant only because I'd had a fair share of "eh" at Ru Sans across the board. That aside, of course I went. Let's give them another chance. And all in all, this restored my interest in cheap sushi. Granted I wasn't partaking in their fish... So take the review with a grain of salt. Their maki always made me nauseated, so I tend to avoid it, but their nigiri is fine though. I really love that they have a vegetarian menu and will order to my hearts content off that. The veggie dumplings are a nice appetizer, and despite the looks, the eggplant maki is pretty decent. I would not recommend the salad maki though. I wish they'd add purple cabbage or more stuff to it than just lettuce, and an option of a sauce. Even if it increases the price, that'd be fine. I've seen salad "sushi" rolls before and they can get really creative with sprouts and cabbage/carrots, radishes, romaine... all sorts of veggie goodness. The price on most/all the veggie rolls are super cheap, so you can load up if you'd like. The service was super nice too. My dumplings came steamed when I'd wanted them fried, and it was perfectly fine, I'm not really that fussy, but she insisted on getting the order right, so it was nice of her. Given this last visit, I'll be reconsidering Ru San's for cheap sushi eats especially since their vegetarian menu keeps growing. read more

But after I graduated, moved out to this part of the city, and tried out this Rusans.... Man, I was saddened.
