Every time I'm close to this restaurant, the urge to call for takeout is unstoppable. They have perfected the packaging. Generous green and red Salsa's, lemons, pickled carrots, onions and jalapeños - all pre-packaged. The food labeled so there's no confusion in the food distribution. Perfect! That's just the bonus- the star of the show is the amazing food quality cooked to perfection based on special instructions - in our case - crispy tripas. We had: -two crispy tripas burritos with all rice and toppings. -one tripas lengua combination burrito with all rice - tacos - three Al pastor, one buche and one cabeza. They can't process tips if you're paying with a card but there's a nearby liquor store that sells lotto tickets and has an ATM that charges $2.75 for cash. So I got cash and bought tickets and was able to put some cash in Ruben's tip jar. They work hard to give us good quality food so I felt good doing that. I've water at Ruben's twice now and it needs to become a part of our regular rotation. Seriously super authentic and delicious Mexican food!! Came in today for some food for Cinco de Mayo. Everyone in the kitchen was so nice and a couple people who were there I could tell were regulars. I got the sope!! I was originally going to order 3 but the hostess told me they're huge. One was plenty! Glad she advised me not to order 3. LOL...although they were so good I may have tried to finish 3. My wife got the chicken quesadilla. The chicken had a perfect char on it and was so flavorful. My daughter got the chicken enchilada. It was also really good and wasn't super saucy like some can be but had great flavor. I also enjoyed the picked carrots and both the red and green salsa on my sope. Everything is so delicious here!! I don't see them on any Door Dash Uber eats etc but it's worth going in and ordering or eating in. read more

Every time I've ordered tacos from here, they've been perfect. Their food is so good! The chicken tacos could easily compete with tacos from LA. The place is clean and there are plenty of tables to sit at! I got chicken tacos, a bean and cheese burrito and horchata. The horchata is really really good. The tacos are so flavorful and the red salsa is my favorite. It's perfectly spicy but not too hot. And everything about the burrito was exactly what I wanted! Love this place. It's not really set up to eat inside unless you're just on the go and in a hurry (in my opinion). That said, things inside are pretty clean and they have a few tables available. Call ahead if you can since the food is really fresh and they're usually busy in the evening. I usually get the tacos which they load ip with onion and cilantro. They offer pickled carrots/ radish/ jalapeño and salsa for your order. Beans and rice are always delicious. By far this is the best taco in Upland. It is at once a standard and not so standard taco/Mexican food establishment. The chicken is perfect and crunchy without being dry. The taco shell isn't too wet, it isn't dry. I don't know what they do because when I try my own hand at making and using corn taco shells, I fail. The people who work there are very kind, they ask me every time if I want all of their special and clearly home-made pickled vegetables and salsa. The inside of the restaurant isn't nice, I don't want it to be nice. I want the food place to focus on the most important element of their work: good, clean food. When that has been done and they have extra time, maybe work on the walls but not the other way around. They have their priorities correct. And the diversity of their food is impressive. I only get tacos but I can tell that if I wanted something besides what I would want, I could have my choice. The chicken tacos are beyond dry. The rojo salsa is delicious though. The staff is friendly but I loathe paying for subpar food.
