It's relaxed, comfortable, and they have sports playing, which makes it a fun place to hang out and have a meal. I always judge a Mexican restaurant by the rice, and theirs was perfect. Flavorful, fluffy, and well seasoned. We had the mole enchiladas and a chile relleno, which came with a really good red sauce. Both plates came with beans and rice, and everything was delicious. The mole was especially impressive. It had great depth and flavor without being overly sweet like you sometimes get at other Mexican restaurants. The chips and salsa were also really good, and I liked that they bring two different salsas to the table. Overall, great food, friendly service, and a cool casual atmosphere. Came in for my moms 75th birthday dinner. We made a reservation which was nice since we had a party of 15. They were all so nice, welcoming, and attentive. Some of our party was late but they still let us sit down and they were getting us drinks and chips and salsa while we waited. The food was all good and had flavor. It was all good portions for the price too. We really liked that they got all the food out fairly quickly for the size of our party. Originally, I went there to try out their abondiga 's Mexican soup. But they hadn't formed me when I sat down that they had ran out. Apparently it's very good and very popular so I chose to get the beef taquito appetizer plate, which was very good. It comes with guacamole. Handmade and sour cream arrived at My table in a timely manner. The facility is very clean. The staff are very helpful and friendly. They have chips and salsa while you eat. Second time at Casa Rubio's. The first time was the fajitas. I ordered the steak ones loved the refried beans loved the Spanish rice. I am very picky when it comes to rice and it was perfect for me, for my taste. The service was great, and the prices are good. A definite go back. Two weeks later we went back, my friend and I and this time I ordered wow I don't know how to pronounce it. I normally don't leave reviews, but I was extremely disappointed with our experience at Casa Rubio's in Rancho. I made a reservation for my son's birthday on 5/5 (Cinco de Mayo) and even called twice beforehand to confirm everything. Both times I was reassured by the manager, who thanked me for choosing them for my son's birthday and for Cinco de Mayo. At no point was I told they "don't take reservations on holidays." When we arrived, there was no reservation and no accommodation made for us. The manager then told us they do not take reservations on holidays -- which would have been very important information to mention during either of my confirmation calls. What made the situation even more frustrating was that we had grandparents with us who should not have been left standing around waiting, and most importantly, this was my son's birthday celebration. Thankfully, a restaurant down the street immediately accommodated our large group after hearing what happened, and they completely saved the night for us. Wow, some of the best Mexican food we've ever had! A friend we were visiting in the area suggested this restaurant for dinner. They have a beautiful illustrated menu that was so mouthwatering it was hard for us to choose. My husband selected the huge shrimp cocktail and I chose the three item build your own combination and it all was outstanding. We plan to go back next time we are in the area. I had been eyeing this place for a while and finally decided to stop in for dinner one evening. We were welcomed when we arrived, and the waitress that assisted us was very pleasant. Getting to the point... The chips were perfectly tasty, the salsa needed a little more flavor for my taste, but both were pretty good overall. The beans and rice were delicious, but, my Carne al Pastor was grossly overcooked and dry. The temperature could have stood to be hotter as well. The shredded chicken taco, well, was just basic, and the Carne Asada was ok. If I had to choose which I would try again, I would say it would be the Carne al Pastor because even considering what I mentioned above, it had the most potential. I will like to add that we did arrive slightly less than 2 hours before closing, so maybe that had something to do with the preparation. However, t's my expectation that most restaurants strive to be consistent from open to close. But I'd rather "blame" the quality of my food on the time we arrived, rather than the preparation....I guess. I think I may actually revisit this restaurant because I was REALLY looking forward to the food matching the reviews. The Tuesday Special is 4 mini soft tacos or 3 large hard shell tacos with a side of rice and beans for $12.95. The mini tacos alone are $3.25 each, so this is a great value. The service is always friendly and hospitable. I feel welcomed walking thru the door and choosing my favorite booth. The place is modern and the music is nice. Very neutral atmosphere and not very busy for lunch time. The carne asada tacos are delicious. My first bite was flavor and char that immediately had me bobbing my head up and down in approval. Squeeze of lime and a splash of the salsa made the 2nd bite even better. The beans and rice are top notch - homemade Mexican rice with real flavor and cooked to fluffy perfection; and the beans are peruano, which taste great de la olla or refried. In the corner of a stater bros shopping center right across the street from Legends and next door to alta loma high school we came here on a Tuesday afternoon. The restaurant itself has a walk up counter and a bar as well as several TVs playing sports. We seated ourselves as it seemed the waitress was working on her own. She brought us menus and was friendly throughout the meal, checking on us frequently. Prices were on the lower end of many mexican places we have been. The food was very tasty. The meats were all seasoned very well and in my opinion, some of the best rice and beans I've had from any Mexican restaurant in the area. They use lard in their beans, which is a true sign of authenticity. The salsa they brought with the chips pre meal was also quite tasty. We both agreed their shredded beef was very flavorful and I recommend that. 4/5 because of some cleanliness issues we discovered. Menus had old food residue. We had frequented this spot a lot during Covid and for the most part didn't have any major issues, but were glad they still had takeout during such unusual times. Before they grew the location it was extremely small, but we enjoyed dining in. The first visit post expansion was awesome. Food came out quick, service was amazing, and we were like awesome this is now our favorite place to come! Second visit was not as good. It was dead, chips and salsa were basic and didn't taste fresh, food took forever, service was subpar and we were disappointed but figured it was just a bad night. No big deal l. Went again this week, and every bit of our experience was horrible! Service was slow. We were barely attended to. Took awhile to order and get our drinks. Once we ordered it took 45 minutes to get our food! We were never asked if we wanted chip/salsa refills or drink refills. But the chips tasted stale and the salsa seemed different which made me question the authenticity of what was being served. Again, no big deal. Once our food was ordered and eaten we didn't once receive any service to ask how our meal was or if we needed anything else. I had to approach the front area to get a box and my bill. Once I did that I was asked if I wanted more chips. Huh?! I'm done! I'm leaving! I got my bill and waited for the server to come collect my payment but that didn't happen so again I went to the front area and paid. I noticed the family that entered before us was upset and still didn't have their food either. There were no apologies or explanations for delay on food/service etc. I had a 7yo with me and it was a school night so I don't have a whole lot of time to wait around to be helped. I would never walk out without paying but I have to be honest... I was so disappointed and so upset that on a random weeknight it was so time consuming and without explanation on the delays that as I left I wonder if I had left without paying, how long it would have taken them to realize. Service was literally that horrible! I hope they can either afford to hire more cooks and/or waitstaff because I will not be back if my next trip is just as bad. HIDDEN GEM! This place is in an unassuming essentially abandoned stater brothers grocery store lot! Found it on none other than YELP! Sometimes the "hole in the wall" spots really are the best! Ordered 2 , 3 item combos and a couple of carne asada tacos a là carte. The total was $44. Considering the portion sizes, the prices are totally justified. Was able to split w hubby , and my friend was also able to split her meal with hers! We like to eat don't get me wrong, (and we're not shy spending on good food )but trust it was PLENTY of food for us to share. Ordered a combo plate, rice was hard, red sauce on the tamal and the enchilada were not it, it tasted like tomatoes and from a can. The flautas were just grease and dripping.
