Fruit Tart filled with whipped cream

I ordered a tart for Mother's Day online it says that the tart is made with a perfected In house custard and when I cut it was filled with whipped cream. It was $50 wish I think it's extremely overpriced ! I will not be coming back !

This is what they consider a two entree combo... expensive!
    Cyndi C.

They make up the price as they go depending on who you are. Make sure you specify which combo you want cause they will charge you more and not tell you which is a side and what's an entree. The meal posted was 19 dollars!

    I'm done gate keeping

Everything I try here I absolutely love !!! This chicken right here with this white sauce and some rice. It's like a hug the people are extremely sweet and treat you like they've known you for years please tell people about this place. We cannot let it go and we can't let the owner down or anybody down that works here hard-working people love what they do come on now and it's extremely clean.

    Chicken tamale and bolillo roll
    Callan K.

I went in to Rubio's since I live near by and was curious and I'm glad I did. The service is very friendly and attentive. At about 9:45am there were quite a few people enjoying breakfast which is always a good sign. The cases are split between bakery and savory. I obviously had to try something from each. From the savory side I chose the chicken tamale and from the sweet side a pan dulce. The chicken tamale looked a bit deconstructed since it is served without the husk but they give you a large bolillo roll so you can dip and, or, construct your own torta. Very flavorful and the chicken was moist and well cooked. I am not well versed in tamales so I can't speak to authenticity but I thought it was very tasty. The pan dulce was light and sweet with a slight crust which gives it that light sugary crunch. There is a small parking lot in front but it caters to a lot of businesses so it may be tough to navigate. You can find metered street parking on Pico which may be easier to get in and out of.

Been coming here for years, nice employees & good food. They switch up their food options and pastries. They also have cold pressed juices, smoothies and ready to go oatmeal bowls.

Chilaquiles with egg meat and some plátano frito all on point

Ordered so chilaquiles with egg and a big chunk of meat. As soon as I came in, a young gentleman greeted me and asked me if it was my first time right away. He took me over to the food section and I expressed to him. I wanted Meat he went to the back and made it happen for me. I'm very cute place With great decor and awesome Spanish music playing at a low tone. And he offered me a drink on the house. I chose black coffee.

Options, options, options of food for you to choose.

My last review was about 4 yrs ago and I'm still coming to this place. A lot of changes have happened since then but only for the better. Now you see the sons ( J. & N. ; Sorry I already forgot the names!) involved in the business. The food is still good or even better! It's like eating at home & it helps that everyone that works there does make you feel welcomed. I can only vouch for breakfast because that is really the only time I come to Rubio's for (before work). *I love the potato balls & the red chili salsa they give out! *Always get my Pan Dulce from here, specially the Quesadillas. *Can't go wrong with the black beans, sour cream, cheese, & bolillo/pan francés. *Aguas Frescas have always been refreshing *Chicken Enchiladas we're delicious to *Breakfast Sandwiches *Sandwiches *Coffee *Desserts are always good *just a lot of options And the best, it's always clean! They constantly clean the area where the food is and rotate it to keep it fresh. So definitely give it a try! If your looking for traditional Latino home cooked meals, this is it! *Parking in the morning can be a little difficult because of the amount of trucks that are there to get breakfast before they go to work. But I've never had an issue finding a spot in 2min or less. Just patience.

This restaurant was great food and great service. They have options available buffet style or for order, lots of dessert and bakery items along with breakfast and lunch. the outdoor area is well designed as well. great for a quick lunch or brunch.

The cake I bought early in the morning
    Geovanna E.

Bought the cake the same day and I left the cake in my fridge and it was REFRIGERATED for the whole day till the evening, everyone who got a slice of the cake noticed it tasted like chemicals and cheesy. The cake was obviously days old and not fresh it was disgusting, and made my grandmother sick after eating the old cake. PLEASE DONT BUY FROM THIS PLACE THEY SELL DAY OLD ITEMS, this is not the first time I buy from here and get sold old items. It should be embarrassing to sell old food, fix that.

Variety of pastries fresh great quality.

Rubio keeps surprising us every time we go there we try different dishes and they are delicious. We love the ambience and the friendly staff .

    Excellent food Great service

Didn't care much for the rice/beans but not bad. Comes with blue corn tortillas, but honestly the octopus and almond sauce (think b*tchin' sauce) were delicious. Great cherry tomato pico de gallo. Scallop aguachile - wowwww the scallops were so fresh, literally bursting is my mouth. They were sweet, tender, and perfectly paired with the tangy lime sauce. Taco de pulpo - ok so this is pretty much an assembled pulpo à la brasas, BUT I will say the full meal was more tender because it was an entire grilled piece of grilled vs one tentacle. If with a group, def recommend getting the entree to split vs individual tacos. Smoked kanoachi tostado - delicioussssss the smoked kanoachi (amberjack) was the perfect glue for the ceviche. Another banger. I was at capacity at this point, but the only change I'd make is swapping the taco de pulpo for the ahi tostado. So really, Holbox did everything right, and was so good it's gaslighting me into how I could have ordered more strategically. I arrived around 3:45pm on a Sunday, and the line wrapped around the corner. Bar seats are FCFS, so use that information wisely...and you may get seated immediately :P

We both had the ribeye steak, Sheri had to Costillo and I had the Gaucho. We both loved our steak as they were both tender and flavorful. For the Gaucho, I really enjoyed the Anaheim pepper and other accoutrements and we'll get this the next time as well. The meal includes two sides. We both had mashed potatoes and I had a salad and she had asparagus. We had a server in training who was very attentive as well as the supervising server. We sat in the patio, which was nice. There was plenty of room very nice ambience. Relatively easy street parking. It was a nice visit for both of us. We will be back for sure.

LALAs had us fooled at first bite and the service quickly followed…read more.. The very first thing our server asked wasn't what we wanted to drink or if we'd ever been there before--it was, "Are you guys here to watch the game?" We immediately told him, "No, we're here for the food." Looking back, that should've been the first warning sign. They brought out fresh bread with chimichurri, and honestly, it was delicious. It got us excited because we thought- maybe this place really did deserve the hype. That excitement lasted about five minutes. We asked our server what everyone comes here for, and without hesitation he said the skirt steak. Since we wanted to try their specialty- meats, we ordered the Plato Mixto, one of their premium platters. It came with skirt steak, New York steak, Argentine "Italian" sausage, half a chicken, and sweetbreads. It's already one of the most expensive items on the menu, yet they still upcharge an extra $4 per side, if you want one of the "premium" sides. At that price, you'd expect everything to be included and quality to be exceptional. For the sides, we chose the grilled veggies, which the server said included eggplant, zucchini, tomato, onions, mushrooms - basic veggie mix and LALAs Potatoes, described as "Mashed Potatoes & Carrots." We figured that meant mashed potatoes served with carrots, or maybe mashed potatoes with pieces of carrot mixed in. Instead, it was one orange puree--mashed potatoes blended together with carrots. No flavor. If that's what you're serving, just describe it that way. The menu there was very misleading. Then came the sweetbreads. We had to ask our server twice what they actually were because he couldn't explain it clearly. Eventually he described them as "lymph nodes." Whether that's technically accurate or not, that's probably not what anyone expects to hear after taking a bite. Then we actually started eating. The Argentine sausage had a strange, almost spoiled flavor. When we mentioned it, instead of acknowledging our concern, our server doubled down and told us it was supposed to taste "rancid." I've eaten authentic Argentine food before. This wasn't it. It tasted like bad meat. The steaks were no better. We ordered medium rare, but the skirt steak was practically purple raw in the middle. Beyond that, both steaks were unbelievably tough. Every bite was a workout. For a restaurant that's supposed to specialize in grilled meats, that's inexcusable. Very low quality red meat. The chicken didn't save the meal either. I've had incredible pollo a la brasa and grilled chicken from plenty of places. This wasn't even close. It was bland, dry, and completely forgettable. When our server came back and asked how everything was, we were honest. We told him we really weren't enjoying the food. Instead of apologizing, offering another option, or trying to make things right, he doubled down again. "That's my favorite thing on the menu." Okay...and? Then he told us to squeeze a bunch of lemon over everything and brought us what felt like half a bottle of Tabasco. Think about that for a second. If the solution to your signature meats is to drown them in lemon and hot sauce just to make them edible, that's not a customer problem--that's a kitchen problem. By that point, it all clicked. The first thing he cared about was whether we were there to watch the game. We told him we came for the food, but the entire experience felt like the food was an afterthought. The service wasn't interested in listening to our concerns, only defending them. This place may be great if you're looking for drinks, sports on TV, and somewhere to hang out. But if you're coming because you've heard this is the place for authentic Argentine meats, prepare to be disappointed. The meats were tough. The sausage tasted off. The menu descriptions were misleading. The service felt more like a used car salesman trying to convince us our experience was wrong than someone who genuinely cared whether we enjoyed our meal. I don't write reviews to tear places down. I write them to help other people spend their money wisely. In this case...save yours. There's far better places to try authentic Argentine cuisine, this is not it, would not return.

Now when you pull up originally you might think, "am I in the right place" but once you park and get into the courtyard, it is LOVELY! Amazing ambience! There is a bocce set up, string lights. It is a little slice of oasis in the middle of the fashion district. The restaurant itself - beautiful. I couldn't ask for more. Absolutely perfect in my book. Beautiful plants hanging, perfect Spanish music in the background (any place playing Natalia LaFourcade is a win). The drinks were great! I had the jungle bird which was fun. Food was so good too. The whipped beans are the star! We had the guacamole which was tasty, great tostadas with it. The arepas were good but the pork belly was a little too fatty (I know pork belly is always fatty) to the point the fat muted the flavored for the arepa a bit, but still delicious. The empanadas were great and as someone who lived in South America and ate empanadas every day, these really took me back to my Paraguay days. The squash blossoms were light and perfectly fried. Unfortunately my friends had gone to Funke the night before so they were comparing the squash blossoms and Funke won out, but they still liked Dama's! Small plates were enough for the 3 of us. The service was quick and attentive. Parking was easy for us. I will definitely be back!

The staff are lovely humans who really seem to care about their customers. We have some faves on the menu. The bean dip is fabulous and I'm addicted to the baby gem salad. They have recently amped up the filling in the delicious crispy squash blossoms and I love the acidity and heat. The fish is also a hit in my books. One dish that doesn't work for me is the lamb chops, which is a shame since it's my favorite protein. I've ordered them multiple times with clear instructions on temperature and have found them overcooked and tough. The beef tostada was just ok. Whilst I loved the pickled veg on the side, the beef was underseasoned. It wasn't bad - just not up to the standard of other dishes. The vibe in the place is welcoming and the restaurant is nicely appointed. We will continue to be regulars and it's really worth trying if you haven't been yet.

5/5 - Flavor-packed, thoughtful plating, and absolutely worth the visit…read more This spot delivers on both flavor and presentation. I ordered a loaded carne asada-style dish served over fresh greens, and every bite was intentional and well-balanced. The beef was deeply seasoned, tender, and slightly crisped in places, which added great texture. It was topped with a creamy, slightly tangy sauce that tied everything together without overpowering the meat. What really stood out was the attention to detail: pickled red onions for acidity, fresh greens for balance, and a side of house-made pickled vegetables that cut through the richness perfectly. The tostada-style side topped with avocado, herbs, and onions added a nice contrast--crunchy, fresh, and vibrant. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Portion size was generous without feeling excessive, and the dish felt hearty yet clean. I paired it with a refreshing citrus drink that complemented the meal well and kept everything light. Overall, this is the kind of place where you can tell the kitchen cares about execution. Bold flavors, great balance, and a presentation that looks just as good as it tastes. She handed us menus and told us to order at the counter when we were ready and they serve breakfast all day. The menu can feel a little intimidating. It has Mexican, Guatemalan and Salvadoran which I am not all that familiar with. We landed on a couple of pupusas and a couple of fish tacos. There are signs letting you know the food is cooked to order and to expect a 20-25 minute wait, so at least they set expectations up front. The dining room was small but warm and colorful and there were additional tables set up just outside the front door. We had no problem finding a table inside. When the food came out, the portions were generous and the presentation was better than you'd expect from a humble neighborhood grill. The pupusas were crisp on the outside with plenty of filling, and the fish tacos were fresh and well-seasoned -- nothing greasy, nothing bland. Friendly service, solid food, and a spot I'd definitely come back to now that I know what to order.
