    Chile Relleno

Stopped by EK Valley after not going for some time and my god I am just blown away by how consistently good this place is. While my go to is normally the Chile Relleno, or Barbacoa, today I wanted something light so I got the Grilled Salmon Plate instead. Sat outside to enjoy the nice weather and it was such a great meal. The owners and the family that run it are so kind and hard working and really committed to delivering a delicious meal and experience everytime. Probably my top 10 spots in LA.

My husband and I came here for dinner in mid January and had a wonderful meal. We eat very early and came in around 5 pm. There was no one in the restaurant but the chef greeted us and told us to sit anywhere we liked. The restaurant's ambiance is very colorful and traditionally Mexican, it does feel like you're in Oaxaca when you're sitting in here. The menu is extensive and there are plenty of options for carnivores and vegetarians. I didn't see many vegan options but I think there were a few (ie. vegetable fajitas). My husband got the flautas to start and he enjoyed these, but I didn't get to try them as I was avoiding gluten. He got the pork fajitas and I got the mole negro for my main dish. The food was presented quickly. I'm not a fan of fajitas, but my husband enjoyed his meal. My mole negro was very good--flavorsome and delicious. The mole was smoky and so good. It was a filling dish and I only finished half of it. Would recommend and am looking forward to returning.

4++ this place has neighborhood gem written all over it. Small little restaurant along Washington Boulevard and Culver City.. I've been meaning to come here for a little while. I walked in and was seated right away by a friendly person who took my order, not long after that. I came here for the Burrito Mojado Ranchero. It's delicious sizable burrito with Carne Asada smothered with their red ranchero sauce. The burrito alone is quite the meal. I also ordered the tamarind aqua fresca to wash it down. Very refreshing. Overall, I'm a big fan of this place. I'm a big fan of the small family run neighborhood type restaurants in this place is a prime example. I found metered parking easily nearby on a weekday night.

Amazing red mole at Ek Valley! Our party of 5 was quickly seated on a Monday afternoon. The outdoor seating was very spacious and very aesthetically pleasing, with all the colors. The extensive set of umbrellas and shades also kept us in the shade. Since they were closed for 12 days prior to our visit, they didn't have some menu items such as the mole negro and the chile relleno. However, the waitress was awesome and gave us excellent recommendations for alternatives. I got the tamarind agua fresca and the red mole with chicken thigh. The tamarind agua fresca was refreshing and just the right amount of sweet. The red mole is so flavorful, and chicken thigh very tender. I couldn't get enough of the mole on my plate. I also tried the grilled veggie quesadilla, which had a unique smoky flavor. I was very impressed by it. Overall, 5/5, will be back if I'm in LA!

Great service and tasty food! I got the chilaquiles. They're know. For Oxacan food so I want to try their more traditional food next time, like mole. Very pretty seating area. Feels like you're in CDMX.

This place a pretty cool. The food looks amazing and it has good flavor. But it is a bit too expensive for mole. I don't think I'll be coming back. Service was good. They were friends and brought the food quickly. I had the wet burrito de asada. It was tasty. The enchiladas verdes were ok. Nothing stood out. It might be that I am not a big fan of mole but I brought my mom and aunt and they were not impressed.

The restaurant was decorated for the Fourth of July, creating a festive atmosphere, and everything from the décor to the aromas felt genuine and welcoming. The staff was attentive, personable, and made the experience even better. I ordered a chicken and steak burrito with rice, beans, and cheese, and it was outstanding. The shredded chicken in mole sauce was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor, while the steak was cooked perfectly and complemented the burrito beautifully. We loved the old-school vibe immediately. We arrived around 4:45 and waited only 5-10 minutes. Then we saw the fresh tortillas being made and thought, "This could be good!" The atmosphere was relaxed, with full table service and great chips and salsa. We ordered a plate of fajitas to share and a shredded beef taco. Funny enough, I thought I was ordering a taco platter, but one lonely taco arrived on a bed of shredduce. Thankfully, it was excellent. A good shredded beef taco is surprisingly hard to find, and this was my favorite part of the meal. Overall, the food, service and atmosphere were all great. I'll definitely return. I found a parking spot behind the restaurant that felt a little sketchy, but it worked. I'll probably look for street parking next time. 4.5 stars

I'm from Mexico and when I first moved to the US what I first noticed was that tortillas fall apart here and are bad quality. But at madre you can tell that the tortillas like for the memelas are made in house and are excellent quality with good masa, not just like maizena. The servers are always great, my boyfriend and I love this place. This is where he had chilaquiles for the first time with tasajo and he will eat them elsewhere but nothing compares. The chilaquiles are awesome, better even than many places in Mexico. Good quality ingredients and stuff that you don't find everywhere- huitlacoche, chapulines, etc. When I brought my mom and dad my dad was eating and paused and told me he had forgotten he was in the US for a second and that it felt like home. Love this place a lot and couldn't recommend it more highly. I was reading the reviews from others and it seems clear that this place resonates with people who appreciate the diverse and multi layered tastes of Mexico and who know about the nuances of the cuisine beyond tacos and margaritas. If you want cheap tacos and a margarita this is probably not the vibe. I don't know why people come to a restaurant that has unique and specialized Oaxacan cuisine like the amazing mole and great salsas and hard to find ingredients like huitlacoche and chapulines only to buy like an asada taco and a margarita... lol
