It's been over a year since we have eaten at this location. I have always liked this place - their fish taco especial was one of my go to favorites. We popped in for a quick lunch. We ordered the fish tacos especial, langostino burrito, and 3 street tacos. My fish taco especial was NOT what I remembered it be. Granted it's been a while since I last ordered this, however I do remember that it used to come with guacamole on top. This one had slices of avocado instead of guacamole. Second, the corn tortilla was cold and started to already fall apart. Third, the fish was overcooked . 3 strikes!! I've always been a big Rubio's fan, and this location in Scripps is usually my go-to. Compared to others I've visited, the food here tends to be a little fresher and better prepared. The salsa bar is always well-stocked and there's lots of room to eat inside where it's clean and organized. There's also plenty of parking, so I never feel like I'm circling around stressed and hangry. It's just a convenient and reliable spot most of the time. That said, this last visit came with a bit of a weird surprise. Our chips had some kind of strange black smudge on them--not just a little burnt piece, but something thick and greasy. It kind of looked and felt like mechanic oil or paint, honestly. Definitely not what you want to see when you're ready to dive into chips. It stained our fingers and made us pause completely on the chips, which is a bummer because I always like those. I've never run into this issue here before, so I'm hoping it was a fluke? The rest of the meal was good, which made it even stranger. It did shake a bit of my confidence knowing something that odd could end up on the plate... We went in on taco Tuesday, and waited well over an hour for our food. We had asked it would be possible to refund our order but they were pretty swamped so we just said we will wait for our food. We stopped at this location out of convenience on a weekday evening around 5pm. No one was in the restaurant when we ordered. I opted for the 2 original fish taco plate with rice and chips. My husband ordered street taco plate with 3 different types of tacos. We also ordered a couple of side rices do our kids. Once we placed the order, we stepped aside to grab salsas at the bar and extra limes. The containers are available on the side and you're able to get as much as you want. I enjoy the regular picante salsa. Our orders were ready but make sure if you order take out to double check your order. We found that our side rice was a side of corn. When we brought it to the employee's attention, he said he thought we said side of corn. Not sure where that came from, but the issue was corrected and we were given our rice. It's Rubio's, it's bland but it has always been bland. The prices, though, are laughable. $14 for a fast food that's mid at best. Fast food burritos should not be considered a luxury item that is out of reach for the average San Diegan. What is happening? How do these places stay in business? Food prices are doubling but salaries aren't. Not sustainable, the San Diego restaurant industry is going to price itself right out of business. SD labor prices are high but that should not account for a doubling of prices. Go to a Mexican chain or a mom and pops, the prices are lower and the food is a lot better. read more

Just your average Rubio's located in the nice neighborhood of Scripps in SD. Right off the 15 fwy, it's pretty easy to find in the Vons Shopping center. Lots of parking, but can get full on the weekends. Came for an early dinner with my bestie after indoor rock climbing. I opted for the salad with grilled veggies and added shrimp. She got the same thing but instead had mahi mahi on hers. Both tasted great and we had some alcohol to go with. Mmmm!! Service we received from Jared at the counter was excellent. Very friendly and nice all around. Manager brought our salads to our table. He was nice, too. Place was clean and so were the restrooms (which are gender neutral). I'm sorry but with all the closures going on with the el polo loco next door closed I guess I'm going to have to make my own fish tacos at home at this rate. How disappointing. Good, friendly, & fast service here at this location. Taco Tuesdays does get quite busy in the restaurant after 4:30 pm so come earlier n avoid dinner crowds. Today we ordered their famous 2 fish taco plate with beans n chips. It was fine and ok for a baseline taco. A better option is the mahi mahi tacos that are grilled and get it with extra sauce. The grilled options are more healthier for you but they are also way more flavorful. Add in extra salsa for a little added heat. The store is kept clean and food quality here is good for a Rubio's. We ordered in via phone. Rubio's now has a call center that takes all phone orders for the store. I thought it would be odd since it want the store but it was quite efficient. My food was ready in 15 minutes and I simply picked it up. I'll be back for more. read more

This place is such a hit and miss. The first time we ordered online here, there was something wrong with it. I honestly don't remember what it was, we just remember being disappointed and called it a day. There was a time we ordered something online and we didn't apply the app rewards properly, so the cashier just honored it. Even thought it was our mistake, they still gave the discount. Kudos to that! The most recent experience we've had, I ordered a kids taco meal. When we took it home, it did not have the actual taco...so...that sucked. When we called it in, they said just come back and they'll give it to us. We told them we didn't want to drive all the way back for just two taco shell and she said, next time we come back, just let them know what happened and we'll get two shells for free. It is a Friday night so it was really busy but I didn't care because I understand that Friday nights are crazy and hectic. As I come Back to pick up a second order for somebody I want to grab some food, I asked if I could order a fish taco for myself and if they had time to make one if not it was OK. I have talked to the managers, the guys at the register, who are very nice but overly appoligetic to the point where they actually say sorry so much that it has become part of their brand always appologizing for the cooks. I went on a saturday one time. I was the only customer there and order one thing the shrimp trio. I customized the order with no cheese. They gave it to me and it had cheese. He guy at the counter replaced it with a second one that had cheese. I checked it had cheese again. The third time they got it right. Another day I was there, again i asked for no cheese. The gave me cheese on the shrimp trio. The cook had the balls to say the order was wrong, while i was standing in front of them at the counter, saying I put the order on correctly. I took out my phone showed it to the guy at the counter and they visually confirmed I ordered no cheese. But the cooks ego could not fess up to the mistake. And blamed it on me, the customer. Pleae note I have family that has very specfic dietary restrictions if the have dairy, I would have to take them to the hospital. I always triple check before I pay online. Bottom line, it not the guys at the front counter thats the problem. Its the cooks. I am writing this because I dont want anything to happen to Rubios in scripps ranch. We enjoy eating there a lot, it just exhausting that I have have to check my order every time to make sure the order is right. The cooks just need to get the order right the first time. Not the second time, or the third time. This went on for nearly 4 months. We live within walking distance so it is convenient for us to eat here. Would not recommend this location. There is always a quality issue. This time a value issue. Mira Mesa uses the appropriate take out containers. Scripps does not. They are putting salads in a small kid size looking container. Customers dining in get huge bowls still. Who made this change? I've heard several customers complain. Fill up the dressing containers. I love coming here for lunch! The food here always tastes fresh and delicious. I usually come here on my lunch break. I normally get a bean burrito or tacos. My favorite is the street tacos with steak! It's very yummy. The meat is well seasoned and cooked. It comes with fresh avocados!! And a side of fresh beans and crispy chips. My favorite. Customer service here is very good! Everyone is nice and the staff tries their best to get the line going and serve everyone. And they always give you that reassurance on ordering what you really wanted. There's been many times the cashier guy caught me ordering a bean burrito with no cheese when I wanted cheese.. LOL whoops. Thank you! I love the salsa bar. I normally mix the diablo sauce with one of the red sauces for that extra kick and the green sauce tastes very fresh! Last Sunday my family and I ordered lunch from Rubio's which we usually enjoy. I ordered the Ancho citrus shrimp burrito which came poorly prepared and consisted of mostly cold dry flavorless rice, two shrimp at the bottom of the burrito, a small amount of beans and remaining ingredients haphazardly thrown together. This is a very nice Rubios. Everyone that works here is extremely nice. Has much more of a restaurant feel than the Rubios near me. They have a nice patio area which many were using. I had a mango mahi-mahi taco and a regular mahi-mahi fish taco. They were both very good and the fish portion size was larger than my Rubio's. Next time I want to try one of their salads. The lady at the next table had one and said it was her favorite salad. The 'crew' kept the restaurant very clean. I was impressed. read more

I worked at this particular Rubios for about half a year, so bare with me here. The overall staff is very nice, the people you'd usually interact with everyday as a customer are all nice (with one MAJOR exception) I made good friends during the time I worked there. The restaurant is filthy. I was a shift lead, so it was my job to keep things clean. I did so, in the front mostly, and occasionally in the back. I didn't even know where to start, it was so disgusting. Definitely not how I would choose to keep the kitchen area, its always a mess, and its gross. The front is fine, Its kept as clean as possible by the staff that really care about the restaurant (which, as I said, is most of them.) Secondly, The food is prepared much in advance, and is often served to guest after sitting out for hours. Not to mention, they would rather throw away the left over food that they cooked, instead of allowing employees who cant afford to pay half of an unfairly overpriced burrito, because they are being paid minimum wage (and working their asses off) And finally, (in my opinion the most important part) the management at this specific Rubios, located on Scripps Poway Parkway. The management did not only allow, but also participated in harassment that caused me to fall into a breakdown that has left me mentally debilitated for many months after the fact, and then they proceeded to fire me. Their reasoning? "We cant employ someone who cant work." Why couldnt I work? I was vomiting daily, and having screaming, crying breakdowns before going into shifts because I anticipated I would be met with harassment again from my boss, Virginia Camacho, and from one of the other shift leads that worked there by the name of Manuel. Virginia called me slow, not only to my face, but to other employees who relayed the information to me. I have learning disabilities, and I was putting my all into this job. I made a few mistakes when I first started, and she responded in a kind manner that led me to believe it was a safe and welcoming environment. Its not. She also screamed on me, screamed, on multiple occasions when I called in after projectile vomiting all over my bathroom and stated I couldn't come in. She made me. Too many occasions than I can count, Virginia made me come into work after I had just vomited. I think thats gross, its a goddamn restaurant. Manuel is sexist, and not very subtle about it. He would specifically only get the teenage GIRL that worked night shifts in trouble for not paying for her meals, and completely ignored the three other teenage boys that were doing the same thing. Manuel and I were in the same position, both shift leads, and he would continuously talk down to me, mansplain things I knew far better than him about, cut me off in front of customers to contradict the mask mandate back at the beginning of the year. Overall, working at this establishment has damaged me beyond belief, as I can now barely leave my house without severe and continuous panic attacks, and with the diagnosis of new disorders, I completely blame Rubios and the way they treated me over six months. Calling me in to work on days I wasnt scheduled, frequently making me work for hours longer than was scheduled, I worked myself to the bone and they fired me. After many years we are parting ways with Rubios #077. This afternoon I made an online order after leaving the grocery store with refrigerated items. Arriving at Rubio's nine minutes after the order time, I called for curbside delivery to allow the car to stay cool. I was told that the order was still being processed and that it would be delivered to the car when it was ready. Twenty minutes later I walked into the restaurant to check; I saw my order cooling on a pickup shelf. According to the attached ticket it had been ready for pickup for the whole twenty minutes since I had arrived. No apology was offered. When I got home, the now-cold tacos and bowl were overly salty. Bad service, and bad food. I try to support my local restaurants in this trying time for them, but Rubio's will have to work its way out of bankruptcy without our business in the future. read more

Came in on Friday for lunch and had the blackened salmon bowl, it was so flavorful delicious! It was about $12 and a big portion. The fish was seasoned very well and complimented the guacamole and lime rice. Definitely my go to for a fast lunch at the office ! The customer service is spot on. I adore Rubio's but every now and then their food isn't 100%, which is fine, but today I went to this location and it was awful! I got a salad that was supposed to have avocado and it came with only a half of a slice. The lettuce wasn't fresh, and they forgot the dressing. These are tough times and I appreciate these employees being there to cook food. I hope it was just an off day for whoever made this salad and if so I hope they feel better soon! read more
