This is a place to buy donuts. That's all. It's not a place to hang out, and unless you're a fan of watery Dunkin-style coffee, avoid that too. But the donuts are pretty good and the price is reasonable. And I like that every time I come in he throws in something extra, like a few donut holes or an extra old fashioned. And they offer a true "baker's dozen": buy 12 get one free. I like that they're small - that is, appropriately-sized - too. No 800 calorie obscenities often encountered. There are a good variety of most of the standards, and apple and raspberry fritters which I really like. But get there early. If you come later in the day as I often too there are slim pickings. You won't find outrageous flavors like candied maple bacon, PB&J, or bone marrow here but that's ok by me.

Donuts had a bad oily aftertaste chocolate was not very good raspberry filling was great. That's the only thing good about the donut.

What a hidden gem (at least for me)! My wife and I found a "top 100 donut shops in the US" list and saw this place randomly placed in there... a Massachusetts shop on the list?! And it's not far from us?! Let's go! The donuts: Amazingly fresh, super light, and very flavorful. I was shocked when I tried the jelly donut in how amazing it was. We bought a dozen and everyone that had one was very impressed and wanted more. The pricing: Knowing many donut shops in the general area, I guesstimated how much a dozen assorted donuts would be. When I saw the prices was under half my estimation, I was blown away. They are ridiculously reasonably priced. All in all - This small business is BIG in flavor, service and in quality. We're definitely looking forward to heading back and grabbing more donuts!!

Still cranking out quality donuts after three years in the middle of nowhere. The donuts are a little smaller than most, but priced accordingly, so get extra to get both variety and a bargain. Honey Dipped: Light and lightly glazed, it's fluffy but leaning on the dry side. Keep reading to see my strategy for this. Boston Cream: Rounder and much thicker than most, it packs more filling than most, and has just enough extra golden crispness that it adds a beautiful contrast to the creamy interior. Pine Cone: Same donut dough, but arranged with a bunch of protrusions that grab the honey dip glaze a lot more effectively than the honey dipped donut. And because it's thicker, it's fluffier, bouncier, and more moist too. And because it's the same price as a donut and can be had in dozens or half dozen is just like a doughnut, it's the thing to get instead of honey dipped. Raspberry Bismarck: This is more of an elegant pastry, made with real whipped cream and a raspberry filling that's fresh tasting and had some crunch to it from the seeds. A premium item but a worthy occasional splurge. Twist: Fortunately for us, these plump beauties are the best thing Chan Chan the Donut Man does. (Unfortunately for Chan, his wife thinks so too.) They have a nice fluffiness and a nice pull to them. Really excellent stuff. Another premium item that's well worth the upgrade over the standard donut. Bear Claw: Imagine a shiny honey-golden baseball glove filled with hot apple pie filling. Imagine it glistening, sticky, and piping hot out of the fryer, about 7:30 each morning for your eating enjoyment. Imagine you're there at 7:31. I think you know how this story ends. Coffee: Not the greatest (let's be honest, not even the goodest), but you're here for the donuts. Make that twists and bear claws. I repeat: twists and bear claws.

We have been huge fans of Ruby for the past few years. It is our go to place. The last few trips have not been up to par though. Many of the donuts have been smaller than they were previously. They also seem to selling out of "the good stuff" like fritters earlier in the day. Some say that the owner sold the business to his son and he is cutting corners. I really hope this is not true. read more

Talk about a hidden gem - an unassuming little hole-in-the-wall in a well-worn strip-mall on the less-traveled road out of Ayer, making donuts that blow away those from more ubiquitous chains. I had driven by multiple times without noticing it, until a colleague mentioned it had made Yelp's Top 100 list for 2022. My first visit was late in the day, and the selection was down to maybe a half-dozen flavors, but the proprietor still gave my kids and I samples to try, even making whipped-cream sandwiches of chocolate and blueberry donuts and asking which we liked better. Who does A-B testing of donuts at 4:55 PM? We wound up with chocolate, chocolate-iced chocolate, chocolate with coconut, chocolate-iced glazed, blueberry, an apple cider donut, a raspberry fritter, and maybe a bit more. A good portion of those aren't even listed on the menu on the wall - clearly the cooks like to think outside the box and experiment. Everything was fresh, moist, and delicious. my husband brought home donuts because he claimed they were rated #1 in the country or the world (or something) ‍ I stayed opened minded. I like Boston cream pies. after 2 bites...just way too much sugar. The donut was already over glazed with layers off sugar, the chocolate was insanely sweet, and they are shaped like balls meaning they over pumped them with cream....which was also overly sweetened with extra sugar. Hw brought a dozen donuts and I had to throw them all away...looking at them makes me want to gag. read more

If you are looking for great donuts, look no further. I had been craving a chocolate glazed donut for a while and my local donut has temporarily closed. Instead of going to a chain donut/coffee shop, I was on the hunt and found Ruby donut! This place is amazing, plenty of donuts to choose from and they all tasted amazing. Finally got a chance to pop into Ruby Donuts today and my goodness are they DELISH!!! Like out of this world good, I wanted something sweet and my new friend Chan didn't disappoint! What a great guy who makes some wicked good donuts! They're melt in your mouth and literally were still super fresh when we caught them right when they were closing. He also made me some Thai tea and my very own special glazed donut with whipped cream and jelly filling! Wow, this place absolutely deserves its reputation as the best donut shop in Massachusetts. The donuts are delicious, light, crunchy in all the right ways, and pretty much perfect. The staff were patient, friendly, and helpful. Service was great, prices were very reasonable, and it was just a great experience. Ayer is kind-of a pain to get to, but it was worth the trip, I'll be back! read more

Totally reminds me of by-gone days - the donuts are ACTUALLY MADE HERE!!! Soooooooo delish and so fresh . No matter which one you choose you will be happy. Was in the area to go apple picking. Stopped by Ruby Donut based on all the good reviews on yelp. This place did not disappoint! I live out in Boston and I've tried most of the popular donut places in the city. I would say Ruby Donut has some of the best donuts I've ever had! Their donuts are incredibly moist and were still warm from the oven. Their staff let us try a few of their popular flavors to help make our decision. We planned on getting one donut and left with 18 to share with friends. I would highly recommend this place! Everything is delicious and the staff is super friendly. The only suggestion I have for the company is to start an instagram. Having that social media platform would allow people to share pictures and tag the location. read more

The best Coconut Donuts on the planet... If you love coconut as much as I do this is your place and you wont be disappointed but save some for me! Hubby thinks that their Raspberry Fritters are the best thing since spiced tea....Owner is very friendly and shop definately has the small town small business appeal..... This place is in the middle of nowhere over by Devens. I have been here twice. The cake donuts are amazing, on the lighter side, not too dense. The old fashioned donuts should be tried by everyone, it may be the single best donut I have ever had, tastes like there is a touch of lemon in the batter or glaze. This place is over an hour from my house but I am willing to travel here because of how good these donuts are. read more

Such a pleasant experience! The men working were so kind and helpful and even gave us free samples as we took our time choosing from all the delicious looking donuts. I was even given a donut sandwich filled with cream and jelly for free! We also ordered a Thai iced tea and taro bubble tea. Both are incredible! I highly recommend this place to anybody living in or visiting the area. We will definitely be returning! read more

Ruby Donut is a hidden gem in a long ago forgotten strip mall in Ayer MA. The shop is full with freshly baked donut aromas upon entering. While not big the friendly staff move quickly packing up guest requests for the fabulous donuts. Always crowded at peak times the line moves quickly. Most are into their purchases on the way back to their parked car. Highly recommend but only tell a few of your very best friends about this place. Rumor has it they may add a second location! read more

I've had several donut types from Ruby's across multiple visits, so I can report that these donuts are DELICIOUS and DELIGHTFUL!! The blueberry cake donuts are simply amazing, and my husband declares their Boston cream donut the best he's ever had. If you're looking for a comparison, I would say Ruby's cake donuts remind me of Union Square's in Somerville, a high standard. And their glazed donuts remind me of the best Krispy Kreme of my childhood. So if you're in the area, do a favor for yourself, your family, and Ruby by stopping in for a yummy sweet treat! read more

My favorite place ever!!!!! I travel from NH just for these donuts. I stopped there today and it had just closed but the sweet owner opened the doors and let us in and was even giving us samples before we chose our pickings. So fresh and heavenly!!! Super yummy donuts and breakfast sandwich! I've been trying to find a good donut shop since we moved to the area and this is the best by far. The Boston cream was so good and the apple fritter was crispy and delicious. We also got a sausage, egg and cheese croissant and it was yummy as well. Will definitely come back. read more

If this isn't the cutest little place ever, I really don't know what is. The donuts are awesome, unique and fresh. The people are very sweet, and are always down to let you sample something. It's a small place, but everyone working there is incredibly attentive. I don't like their boba mixes, they're a little more like flavoring and water, but everything else is absolutely fantastic. read more

We went a while back, having seen it posted online. Someone was raving about how good the donuts were so we took a drive to give it a try. When we walked in, the man behind the counter was so nice. He was letting us try samples, recommending his favorites, and was all around warm and inviting. We got donuts, bear claws, and fritters. They were all great but oh my god the fritters were soooooooooo good! You can tell it's real ingredients too, everything tastes fresh. Got the bubble tea another time and that was really good too. My aunt's boyfriend had mentioned that they were being brought to a college campus, so the workers had given him 3 more boxes of donuts! They are absolutely amazing. I had an apple cider donut, and it completely hit the spot! Then had a boston creme and it was the BEST boston creme donut I've ever had.
