I've been spending a lot of time in Port Orchard lately and this has become one of my go to places. I have been here for breakfast, lunch and just drinks. It's nice that there is a bar area which is separate from the regular dining area. Plenty of parking, but this place does seem busy on a weekend morning. I do find it a little strange they have bathroom codes on the doors, but everything else is excellent. It's clean and bright in here. I believe they have new owners. It is very hard to find a vegan breakfast in Kitsap county and this place has a couple options made using Just Egg. To my knowledge it is the only place with a vegan breakfast available in Port Orchard. They also have a burger option available. Some day I will try the veggie fries. Do remember to check the specials when you walk in. They always have tons of desserts listed that seem inviting. My non veg dining partners always seem happy with their food. They were very nice in accommodating some family members who needed gluten free options. It can be a little chilly, but the coffee will warm you up. Let's start with the good: the server was pleasant. That's where it begins and ends. We sat on the bar side. VERY limited on drinks, and the ambiance... well, there wasn't any. The server was pleasant enough, but had zero knowledge of alcohols/drinks. My friend and I both ordered the taco salad that was on the menu. We were told that they no longer offered taco meat, so they don't do the taco salads. Strange. We ordered the buffalo fries. They were warm and soggy. They tasted like something prisoners might make with stuff that each of them got from commissary. They were awful! Not one of our party of 4 even finished our meal. It was far worse than any cafeteria food we've ever had. So very disappointing! I've seen good reviews on this place, and I was hoping to support a local business, but... it really was so mediocre at best. read more

Pretty good place to stop in for a milk shake, appetizer, some coffee and a couple of sandwiches. The place looks clean inside but has nearly zero atmosphere for a bar and grill that presents like a diner the second you enter. The place was empty Sunday afternoon so we got friendly and quick service. The food came out quickly, it was tasty and the waitress was right there for coffee refils and to chat with us when she had some time. The prices were fair and got a 10% senior discount without asking for it. I'd stop by here again. read more

My husband and I REALLY wanted to try this place out because we are new to Port Orchard and like to support our local businesses. When we walked in we stood there waiting for a greeting or at least some kind of acknowledgment or direction. The waitress walked past us three times until we finally asked "Do we just seat ourselves?" She very rudely snapped "I'm working on it!" We STILL decided to give her a break, as it was busy and maybe she was flustered. She wiped the table off very aggressively and then walked away. We sat there staring at each other just wondering if she was going to return. Never saw her again. We finally got up and left and as the door was almost closed behind us we got a shout from inside, that I'm assuming was her, saying "It's just really busy in here!" I completely understand being swamped. But just a little communication would have been greatly appreciated and we would have definitely given her grace. But to be rude and act like you're absolutely bothered by us walking in is not ok. If I was the owner I'd want to know if this is how my guests are being treated. The service was very slow. There were only 4 occupied tables in the restaurant. We waited for 15 minutes before the waitress arrived to take our order and it took another 30 minutes for our breakfast to arrive (bacon, eggs, hasbrowns, and toast). This was quite the impulse buy for me. I had gone over to this side of the state for a few reasons, but didn't originally plan on being in Port Orchard. After just a few minutes of seeing what was in the area it seemed like everyone would be able to find something here. Walking in I noticed they had a cute 50's diner theme going on and it was very clean. It was quite early in the morning and the waitress said we could grab a seat anywhere. Full bar here and I was able to grab a mimosa with had a really great ratio of champagne to OJ. The waitress most definitely could tell that we're city slickers, which I found to be amusing. For breakfast I went with a veggie omelet. First impression? It's a black olive omelet. That first bite was all egg and olives. So many olives! It got to the point I started picking them out because it was way, way too much. Once I got about ¼ of the way through the veggies were more evenly distributed. Overall it was okay and what you'd expect to find at absolutely any diner. Sourdough toast was kinda cold and already buttered for me so I couldn't choose the level that I wanted. The home fries were super disappointing. Zero seasoning of any kind and I had to use salt. I never salt restaurant food, but it needed it soooo bad. Overall it was a pretty okay experience. While I was there I noticed that a lot of the other patrons were regulars that the waitress knew by name so they definitely have a following. read more

First and last visit tonight. It took 40 minutes from when we sat down to when our food arrived at the table. The burgers were good but my fries were overcooked and dry. Service was extremely slow; probably the take out orders we observed were part of the reason. Apparently it's ok for customers to yell to each other across the room or for our waitress to hold loud conversations with customers. Not a great ambiance. Very fair prices though, and good music - maybe from the kitchen. Lots of retro Beatles. The 10% senior discount was appreciated but we won't be back. read more

We went in at about 4pm. The restaurant was pretty empty besides one other table. The service was pretty slow but the waitress was nice. The food took quite a a while to come out but pretty sure there was only one cook in the kitchen so it was understandable. The food was okay. My favorite thing was the bacon. The gravy on the biscuits surprisingly had a little spice to it which didn't bother me but might not be suitable for someone sensitive to spice. read more

Let's see, where to begin? Wife and I have been coming here since moving here from San Jose a few years ago. They used to be really good but have been going down hill our few past visits. This place used to be packed in the early morning but Dani made sure I never saw the bottom of my coffee cup. This visit (which will be our last visit) was horrible. Used to be able to hear the music in the air but all we got to hear was the kitchen staff bullshi**ing the whole time! (don't think the customers care that you have been weed free since January. Didn't know this was NA meeting. Congratulations on your sobriety !) The past few visits we have noticed the quality and quantity of food going down but the prices constantly rising! Today was the final straw. The place was not very busy at all, maybe 3 tables and us. We decided to split the Country Benny (now $18.99 which is a joke of a price for what you receive) and a coffee ($3.99). We are the type not to complain while at a restaurant because I have worked in the industry and know what happens when you do (you know what I am talking about). With no Dani in sight, and a new waitress to us running this joint it was a joke! I stared into the bottom of my empty coffee cup 3 times for at least 5 minutes each time. Not that the waitress was busy (remember only 3 other tables), she was not to be seen in the restaurant. She would only appear to serve food to a table and then disappear, no checking on patrons. We used to get our food in legendary time (remember that was when this place used to be busy and had a different cook and Dani was running around all by herself handling business like a boss)! This time must have been 20-25 minutes to get our food. (I guess multitasking isn't in this cooks wheelhouse!) You can see in my previous pics of our split country Benny how the cook used to split it onto 2 plates, not this time, Just came with an extra plate. Now for the food. Used to love their biscuits, now for a burnt biscuit to leave a kitchen is ridiculous! Get your head out of your a** chef Is what Ramsey would have said! The gravy has changed and not in a good way. The sausage patty was a little strange. Never have we had a sausage patty crumble up in the center, not sure if its over cooked or just some cheap sausage. Im gonna go with cheap! We used to love the hashbrowns here, but there must be a shortage on potatoes here in the PNW because the hashbrown portions have definitely shrank the past few visits! Don't know what happened to this place. The waitress didn't even ask how was the food when refilling my coffee which if she was observant would have noticed a burnt biscuit and sausage patties not even half eaten on our plates! Ruby Slipper is a hidden gem!! We have never had a bad meal but the standouts have definitely been the Korean Cauli-bites and the burgers! Yum!! Service is always spot on, we are checked on, drinks are refilled, more napkins appear when we need them, and they are very friendly. Oh, and did I mention the pie? Homemade pie!! Don't be fooled by the sketchy exterior plaza. This is a great diner, with plenty of atmosphere and friendly staff. Wife and I both had their Prime Rib meals. I had clam chowder she had the salad. Both were good. They only offered 1 size cut of meat, ours was about a 10oz. We both had the loaded baked potatoe, needed more butter and a little more toppings.. Veggies were good. The prime had a good flavor and was the way we ordered it.. Our servicer was very nice and she was also attentive. We sat in a booth and was also comfortable. We enjoyed the background music it was 50-60s and fit the decor. We'll be back again. Amazing little local joint!!! My first time in, and I really appreciated the great service. It's like a 50's diner, and the food was outstanding. I appreciated the value and affordable prices. For my family, I ordered 3 appetizers, drinks and 4 meals for $120 total. That is a huge deal considering how expensive restaurants have become. Highly recommend the fried pickles!!! Came here for breakfast. Truly believe the coffee cup was from the dirty dishes as it looked used and the spoon for cream was very sticky. Asked for new cup and spoon which was ignored. Setver was on phone and obviously avoiding customers. After ordering, my food came piping hot and beautiful. Potatoes and eggs were perfect as well as the country gravy. It's nice when you go in if you want hair in your French toast, and if you order take out be ready for the worst food you'll ever have from there fried were rubbery, onion rings the breading falling off, soggy burgers, a stack of ham when you order there deluxe club sandwich. I so wanted to like this place. I'm new to PO and really wanted a go-to local spot for burgers, fries and basic diner fare. Unfortunately this isn't the one for me. We ordered a cheeseburger, fries, onion rings, buffalo wings and 'black and blue(berry)' pie for dessert. Burger was okay, but the fries and onion wings were limp and soggy. No crunch at all. The buffalo wings were okay but cold. We hoped the pie would save the meal, but it was actually the worst thing we had. Nice and clean cafe. Service was good, neither waitress was friendly or personable but maybe it'd been a busy morning or something else was going on. Kinda lower the mood overall for such a pleasant looking atmosphere. Food was good quality. We were here for breakfast and hash-browns were like so many places, cooked on one side barely, even thought requested them crispy. Note: the home potatoes looked super on other tables being served! Good strip mall restaurant. They have the normal fare that it is common, the normal omelets, comfort food like meatloaf, burgers, etc. We had great service. They have several items on the menu that make it stand out from the other local diners is specialty fries. Stuff like poutine, these came as a massive order as an appetizer. They also had some nice pies for desert. As a side note it is probably one of the only restaurants in Western Washington that has been hit by a tornado, which is the tie to the name. read more

REALLY nice place! I'm not certain it's the same owner, but it's in the same spot where Bethel Square restaurant and Lounge was before being destroyed by the tornado a couple years ago. Super cozy inside - very 50's diner look with checkerboard floors, 50s style vinyl booths and tables, along with really nice decor. Very clean and ordered and inviting. We stopped in just on a lark, driving by and seeing the "Open" sign. We had already had lunch earlier, but had to try something so we picked up an order of wings and tots to nibble now, and take home for dinner later. SUPER yummy tots and wings!! Really nicely cooked - crisp and evenly cooked on the tots, moist and tender on the wings. We also shared a beer from the bar. Our server was super nice and service was excellent. The menu is VERY broad as such diners go, with lots of choices for burgers, sandwiches, salads, specialty fries, and deserts. It will be fun to slowly work through the menu over time. Really nice to have another quality restaurant back in Port Orchard after a few years of decline - it's really nice to see places opening like this. Oh, and how cute is the name? Get it?
