We worked up a appetite at Newport Beach Pirates Cove then we were off to Laguna Beach Ruby's Autodiner directly across the street from the beach and had the most delicious lunch. I had a bacon cheeseburger with added raw onions that was incredibly tasty and big but could of used a little sauce on the buns cause it was a little dry but still a perfect burger. My wife had the same but without the raw onions. Also she ordered a chocolate malt which they bring to your table before your meal. Funny but I've never been to a restaurant that did that they always bring dessert last. Everyone was eating ice cream or shakes before eating. Service was great, food was great and the prices are acceptable. Very fun 50's diner to visit and oh ya they have a cool rooftop patio also. read more

The ranch dressing for dipping was excellent, tasty and creamy! The shakes are always on point! I'm a longtime fan of Ruby's, food is always great. I particularly love their burgers and shakes. This was my first time at the Laguna Beach location. Service was a little slow and they forgot to put in my meal I think because the food all came out for our table and mine was missing. We pointed it out to our server who seemed confused and stressed. Took an additional 20 minutes after we pointed it out for my food to come out which was kind of a bummer, all I ordered was a burger and fries. Stopped by for a post hike meal! Super cute diner. Staff was friendly and efficient. Came here on a Sunday afternoon after a hike with some friends and we were seated right away. It wasn't too busy when we got there but people slowly but surely started to trickle in. Friendly staff and good food. They have burgers, fish sandwhiches, fries, and shakes to name a few things on the menu! I ordered a crispy cod sandwich - very tasty and they have bottomless fries! Say less! You can also upgrade your fries for garlic or cajun fries. Yum! My friends ordered shakes - they looked so yummy and it was definitely hard to resist ordering one. I'm so disappointed!! I took my daughter here tonight for a special treat, dinner and shakes! The 1 star is because the service was fast. The food was AWFUL! My daughter's Mac n cheese looked like it had been sitting in a pot all day, completely dry and her fries were cold. She wouldn't eat it. I got the Seafood combo and the breading on the fish wasn't cooked all the way on the inside, I picked out what fish I could. We stopped by here after driving by on the way home from a day at the beach in Laguna. I usually stay away from diner food but this place was 100% worth it We sat on the roof and had a prime view of the sunset across from PCH. Ambience 5/5. While staying in Laguna Beach for a little getaway, we were thrilled to see a Ruby's nearby! The burgers were so good when we tried them previously but there are no longer any locations near us. Seeing this near our hotel, we didn't hesitate to make a beeline straight for it in the morning. There are plenty of parking spaces and classic cars in their lot. Since we came during COVID-19, there were two options for dine-in: in the makeshift patio in the parking lot outside or on the roof. We opted for rooftop dining and chose our own seats. Our waiter wore a mask, was respective towards social distancing during our time, and was fast and friendly. My better half had a waffle with ham and eggs while I had a Denver omelette with potatoes and toast. Both were delicious and surprisingly way too much for us to finish - be forewarned that the portions are very generous! We got the seafood combo platter and the albacore melt, one with regular fries, the other with cajun fries. The seafood combo was decent. Preferred the shrimp over the fried fish which was quite heavy. The fries were ok. I really liked the albacore melt - was in the consistency of a grilled cheese with fish salad in there. Wonderful place for a casual date, and if you sit on the top floor you get a great view of Catalina Island on a clear day. The service left a little to be desired and my garlic fries came out Luke warm but overall, pretty good for the price and atmosphere. read more

Came here on a Wednesday during brunch time, and the restaurant only had a couple of guests. It was quiet inside. Fun 50's style diner decor with cool classic cars on display. My mom & I sat on the rooftop deck. I was surprised to see the large seating space to accommodate larger sized parties. Ocean view was awesome! Family-friendly menu, fair prices, scenic location, good service. I suggest coming here to eat, versus going to a fast-food place. The milkshakes are picture perfect and taste INCREDIBLE. I had big chunks of strawberries in my strawberry milkshake. Bring a sweater if you get chilly and sit outside with this beach weather. read more

Loved the location and old school diner feel of this Ruby's! Sat on the rooftop patio and got some great views - would definitely recommend sitting outside. Started the meal with the fried green beans and they were delicious, especially with the honey mustard and buffalo sauces. Ordered the sriracha burger for my meal and it was one of the best burgers I've had recently. It's hard to find an actually spicy burger and this one hits the spot. Has some real heat but not overpowering and the bacon adds some nice smokey flavor. Finished my meal with the chocolate chip cookie dough shake. We came here on Saturday night around 8pm when they normally close at 9pm which is worth noting. The place was getting cleaned up but we got seated and ordered right away. I got the guacamole burger and my boyfriend got the regular burger and we also opted for the calamari and Buffalo cauliflower. Well, the appetizers tasted good, they were very thick and greasy where you could only eat a few. Then once we got two entrées, which came out very fast the guacamole on my burger was brown. The burger itself was very dry and over cooked . Was the worst hamburger he's ever had, which just looked very dry. Went to celebrate a family treat the day after Christmas. I ordered the Turkey Sandwich w/ Cranberry Sauce Whoever is in the kitchen today probably wants to be somewhere else as there was a dot of cranberry sauce (which I only realized when I got home and looked at the half I brought home) and very little turkey for the price (which I noticed while I ate the other half at the diner.) I have the sandwich a 4 out of 10 at the table. The reason for the 2 stars is due to the very nice, happy server. After a long day at the beach, my friend and I decided to grab dinner here. The food was so good but this place was so inhospitable. Our waitress Emma was so unbelievably rude and made us feel like we were a major inconvenience to her just by being there. The one time she did stop and ask if we needed anything she immediately tried to walk away before we could answer. We didn't realize asking for milkshakes mid meal at a diner was so egregious. We wanted to give Emma the benefit of the doubt and assumed it was just a bad day but with the tables around us, she is laughing and chatting away with other guests but can barely look us in the eye. She also threw the check at us without looking at us and immediately walked away. Our kid was disappointed with vanilla ice cream with chopped peanut butter cups mixed in. Server did a great job adjusting. Quantity of fries is less, maybe because they were busy.
