Outstanding ambience and service, the Ruby's club with Cajun fries was pretty bland. Would be going back to try something else.

Love this place for a casual little cute date with my bf. So vintage and the service is always great. The bourgeois was a good cheeseburger, exactly what u would expect from a diner with crispy fresh lettuce and good sauce, but the French fries so good, thin,crispy, and bottomless! The Cajun fries and the plain fries are amazing. The garlic fries are VERY garlicky, not exactly a fan, but if you pay extra for Cajun fries, you can ask for the refill in garlic if you want! The Oreo milkshakes are also fantastic of course. Like I said before, the service is wonderful, the waiters, waitresses, and manager (he can be seen walking around checking up on people constantly, so friendly). This was my first time eating inside a restaurant since Covid started. I felt very comfortable thanks to all the workers wearing masks and the tables being distanced. The only thing that was not clear was which line was for take out vs which line was for those of us waiting to be seated. Normally I eat at the Ruby's shake shack north of here but I needed a reliable restroom so I can here for the first time. I would have been interested in dining on top to have a better view but the inside was fine for our meal. The food was delicious as always. My go to order is a chocolate shake and a BLTA. I miss the big plastic straws they used to have. The paper straw made drinking my milkshake tricky and when I started using the spoon to eat it I got the milkshake all over the table. No napkins were brought with our food or drinks and it was about halfway through our meal when we finally got any. Be sure to ask for them when you order. We were bummed that we forgot our receipt which had a survey that would give you $2 off. So definitely be diligent about taking that wit you. My boyfriend got the Ruby's burger and a coffee shake which he enjoyed. We are looking forward to trying the grasshopper shake on our upcoming visit. Stopped by Ruby's for a spontaneous lunch with my son. We sat outside on the "roof patio" on a gorgeous sunny day. I've never been to a Ruby's and expected a "blah" experience, but au contraire! Both of our meals were delicious and the service was excellent. My salad was fresh, tasty, generous in portion, and contained a good amount of "the good stuff" like candied walnuts, bleu cheese, and fresh cut pears. I went on a Wednesday night and the service was great! I ordered a Nutella banana milkshake (highly recommend) and it was perfect! I was taken in by the 50's diner look. The 50's look is carried through inside as well. Should have been a souvenir shop of the era, should not be serving food. I ordered coffee, two eggs over medium with bacon, and hash browns accompanied by an English muffin. When we walked in an older couple were complaining about their meal but I overheard the floor manager (I believe) attempting to make it right. I did request no whip and no cherry on my Oreo milkshake, but it's not the "end of the world" kind of complaint. So I never mentioned it to our waitress. Our waitress was great. Very kind and accommodating. Also, her counterpart working the area was super sweet and kind. Had breakfast/lunch here at Ruby's Diner here down in Laguna Beach, and it was an okay experiece. The service was decent and the food was okay, I suppose typical diner food. The food is nothing special, it's just so so. They need to work on perfecting food to make it look more appealing and appetizing. Ordered basic food and it was meh, honestly not the best for sure. Started off with an order of Beignets and they were okay, great portion size but still not quite done well enough. They tasted okay, but the inside could have been better and they could have put more powdered sugar. The Waffle was okay, it wasn't bad, but at the same time wasn't perfection. The Breakfast Special, which was the Cinnamon French Toast which was okay, nothing special at all. Had cinnamon flavor but was still not the best. New Years Day luncheon was very good! Lucky us, we were seated right away. Warning, its quite loud in here, especially with the addition of several screeching toddlers and babies. I ordered the Chinese Chicken Salad and my wife had the albacore tuna melt. Both were very good. On Vacation with the wife and kid. Decided to stop here after driving into town and noticing the rooftop dining. When we arrived, the place had 7 tables filled, inside and out. We were seating very quickly uptop. Upon ordering, it took our drinks quite a while to come, along with our appetizer. So we ordered our Burger and Chicken sandwhich right away. Aftet finishing the appetizer, it took atleast 20-25 minutes for our food to come out. When it did, my wife ordered the iced tea she always does with her meal, and it never came out. We finished our meal, and ordered our milkshake to go as our autistic son was getting very impatient. He can only really sit in one place for about an hour. Upon waiting, I sent the wife and kid out to the car as it took over 20 minutes waiting for my check and our milkshake to go. I must say, as a Chef from Las Vegas, NV. I was not expecting top quality service. However, I was expecting a decent diner experience with my family on the rooftop. The service was unacceptable by even the lowest of my standards. The food, well, the chicken sandwich is unpleasantly thick. My bacon burger was dry as can be. The obvious problem lies within the product choice of the company, but must be noted. Overall. Mediocre burgers that are priced $2-3 more than a fridays and pretty terrible service for being so slow on a monday night. Will not be back on our next visit to Laguna. read more

I just want to start by saying.. with the whole Covid thing I eat out a LOT and I try to give restaurants a lot of leeway! I know it must be extremely difficult to keep things going during a time like this. With that said, Came here on a Sunday for a late breakfast 11:30 and they only had 3 "all day menu choices" which for a diner on a Sunday they should be serving breakfast all day but that's ok at least they had Some choices. I ordered over easy eggs and dark toasted English muffin. The eggs came out over hard and the English muffin didn't look like it had been toasted at all and the bacon was barely above raw. I sent the eggs back and they brought my plate back without the eggs on it but with the same bacon and potatoes so it sat there and got cold while I waited for my eggs, 20 min later everyone else had finished their food and I had nibbled on the cold potatoes and a piece of my husbands toast. I finally just cancelled my order and told them just to take it off the check and they bring the check with a $6 credit for the eggs! Ruby's has always been just status quo to me "not really great" but just good enough to always come back due to the cool environment and the service has really always been pretty good at least. but this was just SO DISAPPOINTING. We basically paid close to $40 with a tip for me to sit and watch my husband have breakfast by himself. sorry to say I can not afford to come back. My parents came to LA from Iowa to visit me. We stayed in Laguna Beach for 2 nights so they could get the "California" beach experience. It was great! We stopped at Ruby's for lunch one day. Food was great and the portions were huge! The place was relatively busy. It was clean and the booths were huge too! I only gave 3 stars because the service was mediocre at best. I don't remember her name, but she was a bit older. We got our food before we got our drinks and shakes. She screwed up one of the orders of fries. Another server had delivered our food, so they were the one to tell her we needed the other side of fries (honestly I can't remember what kind they were). When we were done eating the waitress brought the fries and said "you ordered another side of fries?". She also has the bill with said fries on it. She seemed very confused when I had to explain to her that those were the fries I ordered with my meal, but regular ones came out. By then we were full and staying in a hotel with no microwave, so I declined them. She was clearly annoyed. I felt bad, but it wasn't my fault. I would definitely go here again. Maybe next time the service will be better and I can give more stars. read more

If you are from out of state Ruby's is a popular beach stop. Being in Orange County Ruby's has been my favorite spot for malts done right. This was my first time driving to Ruby's in Laguna beach and like all beach cities-especially in Orange County-have patience getting there. The overall experience was less than exciting. Dirty bathrooms (with no toilet paper), fries barely warm, "Cajun" is a light freckling specifically down the middle. The kids breaded chicken is heavy bread with lots of cornmeal (which some people love) It was a bit more vibing of 80's cafeteria with an aging novel facade. Everyone there was hustling-you could tell, but food/service/execution was flat. Nothing horrible, but not great. My favorite Ruby's is near Carlsbad state beach, but that is north county San Diego. Malts no matter the location have been consistently good, but food and atmosphere tends to differ a lot on execution and how warm it is when you receive it You can split a malt depending on how much you want to chow down (you have the glass and the tin which is about 1/4 full) read more

My bf and I got some food to-go at this Ruby's location and we were both surprised at the quality of the food. He got a burger, which was really delicious! The cheese was just oozing off! I got the Ruby's club sandwich, which had TONS of chicken and lettuce and was pretty good! Their clam chowder was surprisingly good as well!
