Robert was our waiter, amazing service. He was very attentive and didn't even have to ask for a refill A+. Ambiance car traffic, but because we were on the rooftop with amazing views to the beach. The food was really good and filling. Great customer service. We went back for dessert in the evening, and Arianna was our waitress. I mentioned that we were going to be sharing a malt shake. Without saying anything else, she brought it out in two separate shakes glasses. Offered us ice water as well. On our way out, Robert seemed to be off but recognized me and mentioned if we had dessert. I said yes. I must say what an amazing experience to have been served by Robert and Arianna. I have an affinity for diners so I was excited to stop in when I saw Ruby's Diner. I met a friend who lives in the area during a recent visit to southern California. We stopped in one afternoon and found a table on the roof. The weather was somewhat chilly and cloudy but the views were worth the slight discomfort. My friend and I had the burgers while my sister had chicken tenders. The burger was delicious! They were juicy and cooked to perfection. Our waiter said the chili was good so I decided to have a cup. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't order it again. The bill was about $60 for three entrees which seems expensive but probably on par for the area. Our waiter was affable and attentive. Overall, visiting Ruby's was a great experience. The old school feel was nostalgic despite the fact that I wasn't alive in the 40s or 50s. I'd definitely visit again if the opportunity arose. read more

Extremely disappointing experience at Ruby's Diner. We were seated and left waiting for over 20 minutes without even being acknowledged or offered water. Meanwhile, a Caucasian group that was seated after us was immediately greeted and served water right away. It honestly felt like we were being ignored because of our skin color. No customer should ever feel discriminated against while dining out. We ended up leaving feeling upset. Completely unacceptable service. read more

I have been frequenting Ruby's Diner since I was a kid growing up in San Diego. I have been to this location many times over the years, but was in this last Sunday for an unplanned dinner. We were on our way to another location and drove by this spot and diner food sounded too good to pass up so we turned around and chose this place. Ruby's is a throwback to the classic 50s diners and the menu reflects that as well. This location has tons of free parking and they have indoor booth seating on the ground floor, which is what we did, but they also have patio seating on the second floor which is partially outside. The service is very fast and the pricing is very fair so it's a great option for families. One of my favorite things to order in any diner is a Tuna Melt with Avocado, which is what I chose for my dinner. I also had to get the bowl of chili and a salted caramel malt, because why not. All of them tasted great, and were exactly what I was expecting. They don't skimp on the portions, and I definitely did not leave hungry. I would recommend to any fan of diners or anyone looking for a good and cheap casual meal. Our server was also very polite, so I definitely would recommend and plan to be back in the future. read more

Classic American Diner Experience! Friendly, fast, and filling. The chicken tenders were top notch. Fries were well cooked, but the onion rings barely had onion in them. I grew up on Ruby's so of course I love it. However, since the one on the Huntington Beach Pier closed down (tragic), this is my favorite one to go to. I've tried the other locations but there is nothing like sitting on the rooftop and looking out into the ocean while eating a ruby burger with fries and a shake - especially after a long day at the beach. I always try to sit on the rooftop here if the weather allows because I love the view. Anyways, the food is always great. I've never had an order get messed up here. I love their fries as well and think they are the perfect type and size of fries for a ruby burger. And for ranch snobs like me, I do love their ranch - I will even put it on my burger because it's so good. Of course, I get a shake. 98% of the time I get the cookies&cream one because I grew up on it, it's my favorite, and you really can't go wrong with cookies&cream. I had a really decent experience here! Firstly, all the servers looking amazing in their uniforms, especially the ladies', totallly adorable and a flash back to a time before. We opted to sit on the second floor where it was a tad bit windy but still an sweet view nonetheless. I got the hickory burger with an upgrade from refillable fries to onion rings. I was a tad bummed out that you don't get any refills for any of the upgrades, but it makes sense. The burger was so huge I didn't even finish my meal and had to take it to go, I love burgers with onion rings and bbq sauce in it! So I'm a bit biased! I also ordered the chocolate Oreo shake and man, did that take me back! Felt like I was in high school again when I used to order one of these shakes like every weekend but now if I smell one, it goes straight to my thighs, haha. I was so excited to come here for my first time ever, as I am a huge fan of diners! I love the history of them. The outside of this place is so awesome! I love the structure of the building, the lights, colors, and of course the classic cars! Upon entering, I was disheartened. The inside needs some serious TLC (tender loving care). There are a lot of blank spaces on the walls, white walls, tables, and floors. There are a few posters on the walls here and there, one antique bike, and that's about it. It felt sad inside. This place is dying to be taken care of. Please, will the owners read this and take care of this place better? Go out and buy more things that fit the time period! Decorate! Have fun! We really enjoyed our dinner here! We arrived around 7:30pm on a Friday evening, and they were not very busy. Although online states that they are open until 9pm, they do close at 8pm from time-to-time during the off-season if they aren't busy - so be aware of that. Our server, Lainey, was absolutely AMAZING. She was honestly one of the best servers we have ever had, and we eat out very frequently. Although we live locally, this was our first time visiting. Lainey was very patient with us, and she offered excellent recommendations. She even told us about the history of Ruby's. We could not decide on shake to share so Lainey recommended each of us ordering a child/small shake so we could try two different flavors. We ordered the double chocolate and the Oreo shake. I ordered the buffalo cauliflower and my fiancé ordered a cheeseburger with fries. The fries are refillable - how awesome! You can even order them seasoned differently each time. You come here for the nostalgia, not the food. It's a fun place for kids with the trademark paper car kits and the 50's style interior. The food is pretty much hamburgers, classic sandwiches, a few salads, and some fies/ onion rings. This time I had a mushroom burger with a lettuce wrap. It was juicy, flavorful, and filling but I could barely taste the mushrooms that were buried under the cheese. I've had the salads before which were generally lettuce with a bunch of cold deli stuff piled on them. The chicken is just cold chunks of breast meat and the avocado and tomato are cold and flavorless. Fries..... They no longer offer the bottomless fries so you get whatever you get. Shakes- I actually do like their shakes for an ice cream shake. They've got a lot of different flavors and give you 1.5 shakes with the mixing cup. They are probably better than shake shack Service was slow. Everything from ordering to getting out food to getting out shakes to getting the bill. It was busy but not crazy so not sure why. Very fun interior if you sit inside. They do have an upstairs which is outside. We had calamari and a patty melt. Cherry cokes for drinks. Yum. The calamari are a little weird because they're cut into these french fries shapes. So clearly a frozen product. The patty melt was really good. Grilled onions and rye bread. My daughter had a burger and Oreo shake. The shake was fresh made with real ice cream and it comes with the metal shake container from the mixer so you get to eat it all. read more

We've been to this location about 20 times and it keep getting better and better. Our party of 6 was greeted with smiles from all staff, given the best view table and the best server Rigoberto! Our order had several requests (gluten free, no tomato etc) and all 6 came out super fast and correct. Rigoberto turned on heater before we needed to ask cuz that man's a professional. We almost always hit Ruby's after visiting the tide pools, kids like the diner food and the ocean air provides a bit of respite for us. Service is usually really good and the staff are friendly and accommodating, some of them have been working there for years and that's a great sign. The menu changes every once in awhile but you know you can always get a burger, salad or sandwich at Ruby's. If you're in the south Laguna area and have kids that want burgers this is the place. read more

Our visit to the Laguna Beach location on the way home to San Diego on Easter was somewhat disappointing. While the food and service is consistently good on this day the food was delivered by an individual that appeared to be a manager of some sort. As he delivered my burger he said something like "and here is the poison mushroom burger." What? I questioned his comment at the time and he shrugged and laughed it off.
