Rudy's Plumbing has been our go to plumber for over a decade. Every time we've called they've been quick to respond and fixed whatever problem we had quickly and professionally. Kathy is the first person you talk with and she's very pleasant, very helpful and can answer many questions. We've had clogged drains rootered, cleaned and repaired; new shuts offs installed; the gas line to an antique stove replaced and the burner in the water heater replaced. We also have an original to the house pedestal sink that we took apart to replace the drain, then couldn't get it back together again without it leaking. It was inoperable for many years... Rico (the company owner) told me this is why they never take them apart :) He worked his magic and got it put back together without a leak! This year when a leak was found in a pipe under the house, Christian repaired it temporarily, but Rico said it was time to start saving up to have a supply line repipe done on our 100 year old house. Normally our practice would be to get three estimates for such a job, however we didn't think it was necessary to do this with Rudy's because our experience has shown them to be experienced, fair and reliable. We made a list of additional work we wanted done at the same time as the repipe, and before letting Rico know any of these, when we received the estimate all these items were already included! They were things Rico thinks need to be included any time there is a repipe. The team that worked on the repipe, Victor, Juan and Andres were knowledgeable, professional, efficient and friendly. They took great care inside, outside and under the house. We were without water for the most part for only short periods of time and never over night. Rico checked in person every day to keep us updated on the progress of the job. He explained the various aspects of the job in a clear and friendly manner. The job took 3 days, at the end of the job the trench from the water meter to the house was filled back in including the grass that had been removed. We were concerned about the front lawn due to the trench, but after they filled it and replaced the grass, it was nearly invisible, we didn't really expect this level of detail. The holes that were opened in the walls were covered with repair panels until we can get them patched and painted. Everything about the plumbing works perfectly! Over the years, I've used this company for probably 13 years now. I've used them at multiple homes throughout the San Gabriel Valley, including Pasadena, Altadena, La Crescenta and my business in Pasadena and Ontario. They've been excellent referrals for other friends and family over the years. I've had tank water heater, tankless water heater, circulating pumps, new bathroom, install, entire business piping, and lots of finicky and specific troubleshooting with issues. I've never had anything not get resolved when I use them. Sometimes, I've even gotten on the phone during emergency times after hours. Over the years, I've actually learned a lot of plumbing tips and tricks such as things not to do that might ruin my toilet or my sink. I thought I'd save someone the hassle, time, and money if they have a similar situation. I own a small salon, I had a leak that occurred in my shampoo bowl - a plastic drain tube was cracked (simple fix, but I'm not a plumber nor do I have the tools) I had a plumber come out to analyze it and immediately he told me what needed to be done (unbolt the shampoo bowl, slide it forward to get in there and replace the tube) this plumber was unavailable as he had several other jobs, so this is when Rudy's Plumbing comes in. Quoted me at around $187/hr. Before they sent Victor out I sent tons of info and photos to which the owner thought was a simple fix as well. Victor get here, I show him what drain tube was available at Home Depot that the other plumber found for me - heads to Home Depot but comes back w/ several random parts that he glues and puts together. He works on it couple hours, I bring him a nice coffee and he says he's finished - he goes to test it out for the first time and as he cranks it hard back on one of the faucet hoses back onto the water valve which came bursting, the hose spraying everywhere. The nut on the hose that fastens to the valve broke off. he seemed almost excited it broke and shot up and said "I don't have this hose, do you?" To which I said I didn't - and he sprang up took the coffee in hand and said he couldn't finish it without the hose said Kathy will call me to reschedule and ran out of there. This caused me to cancel all my and the other stylists clients. I myself ordered a new faucet in order to get the hose and I replaced that portion myself (turns out you can actually just get the hose at Home Depot). I get everything tightened up, turn on the water, the leak was still there. I waited for a call, from Kathy - in the meantime I used towels and such to soak up the leak. I contacted Kathy once more several days later to ask if she had any plumbers available to finish the job, she sends Victor back over. He tells me that now it's the drain itself that is leaking said it was a quick fix - "it had a silicon before.. but now i'm putting plumbers putty which is better". He works on it maybe 40 mins and he said it's all done leaves saying "Kathy is going to call you and bill you for everything from the other day and today" I say okay and thank him profusely. I turn on the water and now all of a sudden there's a leak from the neck of the bowl to the outside, which has NEVER happened before. Even for me, I could tell this is an issue caused by whatever Victor did to put the "plumbers putty". the drain wasn't even all the way down to the hole and the putty- to this day (2 days have passed) is like playdoh and the drain is loose. I send Kathy a photo promptly and let her know that a new leak was created. Then she said "since the leak isn't fixed it's free of charge. The space is too tight and Victor can't get in there." I respond saying I appreciate them trying but he's never mentioned this at all and that everything actually unbolts so it can be moved without damage. I told her that I hope that Victor didn't cause damage to the actual system as I was finally processing everything and every red flag, I started getting a gut feeling. No response. I call upon 2 plumbers who have no communication with each other both confirmed Victor had shifted it. They also added that they most likely said "free of charge" not to be decent but because they're trying to not assume legal responsibility because they know they messed up and actually damaged the system. I was disappointed, I wrote them an email letting them know how disappointed I was and would've just appreciated honesty in his expertise and didn't know what he was doing especially dealing with a system that costs $850 not including shipping to replace. 2 days later, still no response. Update: my new plumber showed me what Victor did... he didn't even wrap the whole thing with putty (like you're supposed to). read more

Called about a few items - a clogged sink, a stuck shower control (needed a new cartridge), toilet reseat (wax ring) and cut/replace an old garden hose bib. The nice lady who answered set up an appt for me (not an emergency). They can use text msgs to communicate an arrival time and/or add'l questions, & status - they also sent a very detailed itemized invoice (receipt) with the terms, etc. I paid by check and the charges were fair. I had used them several years ago too, when a leak sprung near the water meter. Rico (the owner now, Rudy's son) came too and explained everything clearly; he and Juan did excellent work and left the areas clean. We just had to wait 6 hrs for the new caulking to dry around the toilet & shower knob edges. Another excellent experience with Rudy's Plumbing - 5+ stars!! read more

I trust Rudy's plumbing to do things right, make wise decisions, and price their services fairly. I rent to two sets of tenants in Monrovia and they are authorized to call Rudy's if there's a plumbing emergency and they can't scare me up. I don't have to approve the work in advance if Rudy's is going to do it. In contrast, I've received some shocking bills from other plumbers, like the one whose workers spent hours driving across town to buy a $200 part for a discontinued power-flush toilet which, when working as designed, roared alarmingly every time it was flushed, which anyone who'd used it even once gained a conditioned fear of, exhibiting what behaviorists call "one-trial learning." They billed me almost $900, when a call to me would have turned them towards Home Depot, two miles away, to buy a $129 American Standard and install that instead. That company also billed $135 to fix a broken PVC irrigation pipe that didn't even require a shovel to reach, and when it leaked again 3 weeks later, because they hadn't done a good job, fixed it...and sent another bill for $135. The worst was the Monrovia plumber who told me, sight unseen, that to fix a bathtub faucet that could not be turned off, he would have to rip up my slab foundation and replumb the entire house, when it turned out the problem was that the former tenant had attempted sabotage by opening all the taps and stealing the set screws that held handles to valves, hoping that the water would be turned back on while the house was still vacant or at least making it necessary to close the shutoff valve on the back of the house to stop the massive waste of water. She also cut off both ends of [her own] garden hoses and left them in the yard like some demented Mafiosa warning. Herson slashed the tires on the car of my handyman. That hardworking man supports a wife and two children, one with special needs who frequently undergoes surgeries that are gradually correcting deformities in his legs and feet so he might one day get around on his feet instead of a tiny wheelchair. He got to buy a set of tires, all because the former tenants' son wrongly accused him of stealing the tough guy's potted plants. And I hadn't even evicted her Landlords of Monrovia and Glendale: DM me). In conclusion: Rudy's office staff (one person, I think) is helpful and good-natured, Rudy's work to date has been accomplished swiftly and flawlessly, and at reasonable cost, and therefore Rudy's Plumbing is that stroke of good luck every homeowner dreams of. read more

We had a leaky sink which needed to be fixed. We received an estimate from another plumber to fix the issue. They quoted us a price of $1050. We called Rudy's Plumbing to get a second quote. They fixed the issue in 20 minutes and charged us a $175 fee. He even showed us how to fix the issue in the future, should we experience a leak in a different sink. Our technician was Victor. I had a really bad toilet clog. Mike Diamond plumbing couldn't clear and wanted a huge amount to pull my toilet and run a snake. Juan Jr. and Juan Sr. from Rudy's to the rescue! The pilot light in my water heater would not stay lit. I called another local plumber, they came out and immediately said the water heater needed to be replaced. They gave me an estimate of $2900-3200!!!! Really?!!! I said thanks, paid the $90 for the service call and called Rudy's. Rico and Juan came out almost immediately and, as rain began to fall, Rico pulled out the burner assembly and said that he might have a replacement burner at the shop. They left and came back with a replacement unit. As the rain got worse, Rico installed it and said that it should last another year (maybe more) but if it fails, next step is replacement. The hot water started to flow within the hour! How much did that cost? $211!!!!! I appreciated that as inclement weather approached, Rico thought of another option, made modifications, installed the burner and saved me a ton of money. They followed my requests to the T, and where my request was not per code they advised me the correct way, which worked great. We've used Rudy's twice now, once to install a new water heater and once to repair a leaky faucet in our bathtub. Both times they arrived when they said they would, did the work well and quickly, and charged a reasonable rate. They took time to clearly explain what they were doing, and if there were options involved what the cost/benefit of those options would be. I asked them to take a look at another project, repairing under our shower, and they explained that they could do part of the work, but that it would only be a temporary fix until we addressed another issue. I appreciate that they were honest, not just taking the work in front of them, but really interested in building a longterm relationship with a homeowner. Wow these guys are the best. Whatever your plumbing needs, they are the ones to get it done. Honesty, integrity, quick, smooth.....I have nothing bad to say about them. We had them do gas meter valve auto shut offs ( 9 of them) required by City of L.A. They pulled permits and had them done in one day. No issues...handled perfectly. At my friend's house, they pulled permits and replaced the main water and main gas lines from the sidewalk to the house. Great work, speedy service and everyone is SUPER nice. Called Rudy's Plumbing to take care of some fixes that I needed around the house per my housing inspection. The visit to provide the estimate was very informative and I felt like I learned a lot about how everything worked and what was necessary / what I could live with, even if ultimately I didn't go with them. In the end, I thought that their estimate was fair and they were very courteous, so I booked them for the work. A different person came to do the work (Rico), but he was just as patient and willing to explain everything as the first person (Rudy). They arrived within the arrival window and completed the work quickly. We are working through another estimate for work and I'm sure that will go smoothly. I called Rudy's Plumbing because my dad cut through a water line. The guy came out and fixed it with no problems. When I came home from work, my shower didn't work. I called my dad and he said the plumber had asked him to check the shower before he left and it had worked. So we called out the plumber again. He came back and flushed out the shower. He put all the handles on upside down and the shower was working, but was coming out brown and we had very very low pressure. So I called another company the next day and it works great now. Really not pleased with a plumber not being able to put the faucet back together correctly and leaving the job before it's perfect. Wasted $50 on Rudy's just to have someone come back and fix the problem. read more

You know, there are not many plumbers who answer a panicked email at 8 o'clock at night about a possible gas leak to a major appliance, but Rico does. In fact, we emailed back and forth several times, I sent him photos, etc, to get his help in ascertaining if I had an emergency, or just something that could wait until a daytime appointment. I HAVE NO DOUBT he would have come out this evening if he felt it was needed. There are plumbers and then there are master craftsmen who not only care about what they do, but the customers they do it for. Rico and his team are in the latter category. I can tell you that Rico is good. Their plumbing job is very professional and I like that it is all family. I used them for business purposes. They definitely do a good job and follow the instructions well, they ask whatever questions they need in order to get the job done.
