Be very very careful if you buy gift cards from Rumrunners! I still have $250 worth of Rumrunners gift cards and tried to use one after taking an attorney friend of mine to dinner there a few weeks ago. The server came back to my table and said they are "no longer honoring these cards"!!!! What?? Apparently the new owner had a fight with the previous owner and now won't honor the cards that say Rumrunners...I contacted the previous owner at a swanky restaurant down in Naples and he said he wouldn't honor them either! She noticed I didn't eat the Salmon and asked if I wanted a box for it or if something was wrong so I let her know I just wasn't a fan bc they cook it medium and I was unaware of how medium is on the not finished side. Great atmosphere. Best to make a reservation, gets busy. They were quick to put up an umbrella on the covered patio as it started to drizzle and heaters because it started getting a little chilly. Chicken Caesar salad was ok nothing to rave about. Staff was short but the waitress did a great job. Great French Onion soup & even better frozen key lime drink tasted more like dessert. They can't go out of business soon enough. Great location, crappy service, a menu that does not make any sense. Small portions and exspensive for what you receive. Considering the location, you would think they would capitalize on fresh seafood. It's lobster season in Florida, take a hint. Not a single fresh fish choice on the menu. We've visited three times over the last year, most recently Friday evening at 8:00 pm. It was an enjoyable but somewhat pricey meal for two ($100 before tip). All portions were on the small side. Having said that, the food here is a step above what you get at many places in the area. Our most recent meal included: Ralph's Killer Shrimp, Lobster Ravioli with Herb Seared Shrimp and Coconut Cream Pie. We enjoyed every bite. Ralph's Killer Shrimp is a tasty appetizer. It comes with 5 medium shrimp in a generous portion of tasty broth/sauce. A nice piece of toasted seasoned bread is centered in the dish. The crostini was the biggest portion of the appetizer. My husband and I had a playful argument over who had more. The Lobster Ravioli with Herb Seared Shrimp came with four large ravioli and 5 shrimp and were served with another generous portion of sauce. We were served a small piece of bread to share with our meal. It came out before our entrees arrived. If I had it to do over, I would have saved the bread to soak up and enjoy more of the sauce from the ravioli entrée. The Coconut Cream Pie did not disappoint. It was the perfect ending to a delightfully indulgent meal. A small slice was served with vanilla ice cream. Final Assessment: Very good food. Good service. Enjoyable environment. This afternoon a group of 6 of us went to RumRunners for lunch. Their service was poor to say the least. I ordered the grouper fingers platter but asked if I could have salad or tomatoes instead, it didn't matter just no fries. When my food came out it came with sweet potato fries and I asked the server after he came to the table about it and he said is it ok? I didn't make an issue if it, I just let it go as we had out of town guests and I didn't want to make a scene. I also never got the seafood soup I ordered. One of my friends appetizer of calamari cane out after his salad entree. The check was split and two and the waiter seemingly had no concept of who ordered what do the checks were fouled up. Poor follow up throughout the meal. I would expect a place such as RumRunners to have staff that is as on point as say Lobster Lady, Point57, etc. read more

Rumrunners gets a solid three stars, maaaaybe 3.5, but definitely not four. Drinks: Bloody Mary, gin on the rocks, and chocolate martini -- All okay, but the Bloody was tiny. Appetizers: Crab cakes, tuna poke, coconut shrimp, spinach salad -- Nothing to write home about, for the most part. They were average. Main: Mushroom pasta, prime rib -- Mushroom pasta ended up being 90% red onion, not mushroom. It was so bad that my friend took two bites and didn't even bag the rest -- we can make pasta with onion at home for free almost. The prime rib got good reviews, but that was it. My husband and took my 95 years old father there to celebrate Chinese New Year. We made a reservation the day before at the restaurant's water front deck. When we arrived they told us that they couldn't seat us there. Instead they put us at a table right at a pathway between the door and the patio. They told us that they can only guarantee that is is an outdoor seating, nothing else. We checked around and found plenty empty tables on the deck and patio. It became obvious to us that the true reason they don't want put us in the "nicer" table is because we look different. We are the only Asian group there. We didn't want to fet my father too upset so we ate inside and still left nice tip to the waiter. However we feel strongly that this type of discrimination should not been tolerated. This restaurant is very overpriced for drinks and meals. Drinks are weak. The food comes out only half warm and the vegetables are undercooked. It's like eating them raw and have no flavor. I had the rib eye steak which claims to have wonderful marbling but mine had none, was tough and I don't believe it was a ribeye cut. I would recommend going to a different restaurant. Fortunately, Cape Coral has many that are reasonably priced and the food is much better. Also, there was only one waitress for half the restaurant. She was nice and it wasn't her fault but it made things very slow and difficult to find her when something was needed. Nice outdoor area on the water. HOWEVER do not believe the website as there is NO happy hour any day of the week. Apparently after Ian the business was sold and the previous owner did not bother to update the website or give the new owner access to it. Food good, but bad service and worse customer service by Joe and his assistant. Entree's all arrived differently and they actually forgot my grandsons meal. All said and done and I told waitress totally disappointed. We deserved Compensation for this lousy kitchen timing plus as nice as she was never came back to table to ask about anything. Waters never refilled, nothing. She said she could get manager but I was upset at Joe from beginning and didn't want him at our table. When bill was presented and nothing discounted my daughter took it to mgr podium and complained and was ignored. She was buying dinner and was totally fed up. She still tipped waitress fully which I wouldn't have done but a disgusting evening. My wife and I live in Fort Myers and have always been a customer but learning the management attitude and clear lack of caring for this party of 7.....we will be hard pressed to return. My family and I used to frequent Rum Runners weekly and never had a disappointing meal. Yesterday was our first time back since change in ownership and we were so disappointed. Bread is now $6. There are so many menu changes and not for the better. Gone is the Ralph's Killer Shrimp & in its place is "Tortilla Chips With Cheese Sauce" that was very much like microwaved Velvetta. The Grouper filet on the grouper sandwich was pathetically small. About a third of the size of what it used to be. They also did away with the pasta with sun dried tomatoes that was incredible. They have added sushi and should take that away completely. There was so much sauce on the Captiva Roll I could taste the sodium. If you want an Arnold Palmer it's made with pink lemonade. Only highlight was they kept the Chocolate Torte but it is also lacking in size. read more

Went for late night drinks and appetizer this time with my hubby... Sat inside at the bar. We ate dinner earlier but felt like having a light late night snack. We both love Brie cheese so we ordered the macadamia crusted Brie! It was served with a warm berry compote and sesame pita like chips. Delicious- I could have ate the whole dish al by myself. My husband tried their specialty Long Island tea, it was good but very sweet. I had the espresso tini, which I thought was perfect for my coffee loving taste buds. Stopped by Rumrunners after taking a Dolphin Cruise out of the marina. Group of 7 was quickly seated and our waiter was super friendly and very willing to accommodate. We were there for lunch, but we'd seen the dinner menu online and they let us order some items from it despite them not being on the lunch menu. They had a specials menu that was very unique and several items looked delicious. Two people in my party ordered from that menu actually. I got the their sunfish special, and it was delicious. I think my only complaint would be no sweet tea... But that's no big deal! read more

First the place scores high in ambience because it is located next to the water and has a very nice garden style patio to dine in. The food, it was all very good, for starters we had calamari (I am very picky when it comes to calamari and this one was good, not amazing but good enough that if order it again) buffalo "tenders" these have a great taste and sauce but I don't like boneless wings... so I would maybe pass next time and the coconut shrimp which was the star of the appetizers. I got green enchiladas made with pork for my entree and, well I'm Mexican so I am a bit bias, but these were a very tasty version, not spicy enough for me but very tasty. Usually comes in 3'a but here you get two well filled enchiladas over rice, like I said it was good, not the most authentic but I don't think that's what they were aiming for, this was a very good version. It was my birthday/wanted a place to take friends and enjoy a meal and be by the water. In morning called and made a reservation. On arrival too early they could not find the reservation but seated us anyway. Table was not near one I requested and was promised. The waiter was new (find no fault with him) he managed to answer some menu questions and had to go ask for rest. - drink order very slow , made terrible cosmo, prosecco in plastic cup (clear solo type) no orange slice and side of flat soda. Simple draft beer served way too late. - 4 persons - escargot - cold dry and hard - chowder soup brought in bowl not cup despite saying so, they said keep it. - 19.00 hamburger asked for med rare no cheese, just bring mustard - over cooked, dry, charred black grill marks, still asking for mustard - fish spread served with ritz crackers on lettuce - looked like cat food - featured salmon on black beans and rice - fish small, lukewarm and a bit overcooked. No way worth $28.00 No after service checking to see how it was. On way out offered chocolate cake. Many disconnects. Bartender cant make a cocktail to save his soul. Never ever returning- much removed from the bill. Hefty tip left for Frank for at least doing that. read more

We have been to Run Runners on a number of occasions over the last seven years and I find it hard to believe I had not posted a review of it yet. If I had after the first couple of times it would have been at least a four star joint. What is not to like about the place, the location is ideal, the atmosphere is perfect, the menu is a nice mix of items for the area. But our last visit was a disaster. The atmosphere was ruined by the smell that greeted us in the lobby, had we not made reservations we would have turned around and walked out. Then the service was slow and three of the four meals were awful at best. In the past I have enjoyed the sea food pot pie, yet last night it was served luke warm. The lovely misses had the scallops and they were gritty tasting, like sand paper. One of our friends had the pork chop which normally is a nice thick cut with a tasty sauce and last night it was a thin limp lifeless piece of meat. To their credit they offered to do something about the chop but who wants to wait for a another one to be prepared and delivered. This is the second time in a row we have been disappointed at Run Runners and will likely be the last unless someone else is picking up the check. read more
