One of our favorite go to restaurants in town. Love the atmosphere and the food is always good. Nice selection of wine and beer too!

I really wanted to love or even like this place. First problem is that parking is rather difficult. I've gone a couple of times and the staff has been ok but I am really not a fan of the food. Each time I have gone I have ended up leaving and then going home to make a sandwich because I was still hungry. read more

We came upon this place by accident. Great food, atmosphere and service. Sarah was our server. It was a real pleasure having her wait on us. She provided excellent service and answered any questions we had. We had pulled pork nachos. We only ordered 1/2 a portion as it was humongous. Wow. Wow. WOW! I rarely give 5 stars... but I have to say this is one of the best places I have ever been to. This was so good I feel that some other reviews at 5 stars are not worthy! Eating here was the most amazing experience. I was lucky enough to sample quite a few things. We ordered warm cider red wine, smoked salmon tater tots, mac & cheese, bison sliders, pulled pork nachos, lemon parmesan gnocchi, rustic goat smores and vanilla gelato. It was quite an adventure! Everything was perfection. PERFECTION. The hot cup of mulled wine was fragrant, smooth and beautiful. It was the perfect drink for a cold day. The smoked salmon tater tots were incredible. Every ingredient including the sauce was a harmonious bliss for each and every bite. This was my favorite starter! The mac and cheese was a close second!! It was so creamy and flavorful. Layers of flavor for the tastebuds to enjoy. The pulled pork nachos had flavorful meat, fresh ingredients and thin crunchy homemade chips. The bison burgers had seasoned meat coupled with a warm fresh pretzel bun and fig jam! For the gnocchi, beautiful fresh fish and attention to detail (down to the little peas on the plate, which I believe were glazed). The desserts... out of this world. The rustic goat smores was a perfect deconstructed smore that went heavenly with the large serving of homemade vanilla gelato. The marshmallow was so fluffy and was a perfect ending to multi course meal! Be sure to check out the photos to help you decide when you stop in! My husband and I went there for our anniversary. We were shoved in the corner of a large table and ignored until they sat 8 others (at a 6 person table Grand total 10) and proceeded to wait on them hand and foot while we were given marginal service at best. The people who were crammed into our table were loud, drunk crass and extremely rude, they slammed their fists onto the table, were being so loud that my husband and I couldn't hear each other speak and moved us down so far, we literally were holding our own plates trying to eat fast so we could just get the F out of there. The waitstaff thought it was funny until I started crying. Then the people at our table thought it was hilarious. We paid our bill and left, as I was homicidal and the staff was useless and must have been friends with the other people at the table, as they enjoyed talking ABOUT us right in FRONT of us. Thanks a lot for ruining our anniversary, Staff of the Rustic Goat. Thanks for intentionally over crowding your tables to make more money at the expense of customer service. Thanks for making what should have been a nice night out at a decent restauraunt into a nightmare where we just went home and I cried. You guys are *sooooo awesome.* I don't remember the food, all I remember is being treated like trash. I will never darken the door of this establishment for as long as I live, and I've told plenty of people about this, and they have gone elsewhere for dinners and anniversaries. Building caught my attention first when driving by. It looked inviting and appealing. This restaurant is owned by the team behind KBC coffee. Went for dinner, seating was easy, gave name to hostess, grabbed pre-dinner drinks at the bar, then upstairs where we were given the option to sit next to the fireplace - it's Anchorage, of course the answer is yes. Ordered cauliflower app - OK, this is fantastic, a couple of sauces that complement each other, crispy exterior but near melted, creamy inside; Berries-based salad - pretty good, very tasty, but I think over dressed because the lettuce was slightly wilted; Marsala pasta - tasted good, but also could have made it at home; Goat gyro - Great tasting, savory, comes with some salad and sauces to complement it, added fries too which are a must. Service - Pretty solid, some mistakes, but c'mon it is overcrowded dining rooms and fewer staff nowadays. Beer and wine selection are great. Wish they had a full bar. Would definitely return. Want to try some of the pizzas, especially the truffle. Would recommend that a rotating fish special be added to menu, halibut(?) with various sauce options. read more

It's been a long time since we ate here last, but the quality is still there. A cool industrial vibe in a primarily residential area of Anchorage and probably frequented mostly by locals. A smallish menu of eclectic choices, at the average Alaskan prices $$$. Then again you ARE in Alaska so you shouldn't be surprised. Remember most everything up here needs to be shipped in from somewhere else. All that aside, the chicken skewers, chicken Marsala, Bison Sliders, shareable Mac and cheese, wasabi Brussels sprouts were all delicious. Raspberry chocolate gelato for dessert too. Prompt friendly service and a choice of dining areas, inside up or down and an outside deck await. Weather permitting of course. You'll probably want to make reservations before hand as it's popular and gets very crowded. It gets pretty noisy and the on site parking is very limited. There's a parking lot across the side street at a local park that provides more spaces. This may be my go to place if I lived in the neighborhood. Yummy! read more

Had a 40 minute wait to be seated. Once seated another 20 minutes to order a beer. Food was good but too much salt. Asked for additional ketchup. never arrived. Had to walk out to pay as tired of waiting. we had buffalo sliders and chicken Marsala. waitress was nice but either overworked or forgetful. read more

Had dinner here and the menu was the right size. Not too little and not too much. The pizza was great. We actually recieved the wrong pizza and we didnt notice until we ate some of it. I came in today with the parents to close out the Memorial Day Holiday weekend, plus no one felt like grilling outside in the sun. The Rustic Goat is located in a quiet, wooded residential area off of W. Northern Lights and Turnagain Rd. The building is really something cool to look at as you're coming in to the restaurant. I like the trendy, metropolitan look with windows everywhere that show a great view of the Chugach Mountains from the second floor dining area. You can seat yourself anywhere you like whether it's in the bar, dining area, or patio. The patio as well as the bar has a good size seating area and the rustic, art deco design mixed with the metro look reminds me of the seaside restaurants I've been to down in New York City, West Palm Beach, and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. We were greeted by a friendly maitre d' who seated us quickly on the second floor by the balcony overlooking the bar area and that awesome view of the mountains right beside us. Our waiter, who was very friendly and knowledgeable about everything on the menu, took our drink orders. The parents ordered fountain soda, but I opted for the Housemade Flavored Soda that changes every week which was a cherry-lime mix with soda water that can also be made into a cocktail. This was very refreshing especially since the temperature went past 70 by 12:30PM. I also found out from the waiter that the place has free Wi-Fi and the bar area can be a good place to hang out for studying or playing board games! This was fantastic news and I've been anxious to find someplace different to study instead of the usual coffee shop for the millionth time. He recommended coming here in the morning (the restaurant opens at 6AM for coffee) or in the afternoons before dinner and said the place doesn't fill up until before lunch so there are no issues with time limits or making other diners wait for an available table during those specific times. We decided to try one of the appetizers to start off with which were the Fried Olives (fresh Castelvetrano olives stuffed with mozzarella, dusted with cracker crumbs and topped off with basil and parmesan cheese). These were delicious and they were gone in a couple of minutes. There are some other appetizers I would like to try out when I come back for study time like their Garlic Fries (made with sea salt and garlic oil topped with grated parmesan), the Bison Sliders (fresh ground bison, vanilla fig jam, cambozola, and arugula served on pretzel buns), Cheese and Crackers (lavosh crackers served with roasted lemon, arbol chili and marinated with Israeli sheep feta), and the Chorizo and Clams (house made chorizo sausage, Manila clams, mushroom medley, shallots, and beans in a hatch chile lime broth). For the entrees, my parents ordered the Salmon Po' Boy (blackened AK salmon fillet, crispy hash browns, lettuce, and tomato served with a Cajun remoulade sauce on a hoagie roll) and the Cauliflower Flat Bread (cashew ricotta spread, roasted radishes, salt roasted beets, oyster mushrooms, and roasted red onion topped with arugula and balsamic reduction). The portions were generous when it arrived at our table and they easily polished it off. I opted for the Bacon and Blue Cheese Pizza (bacon shallot jam, blue cheese, kale, and garlic cream sauce topped with fresh tomatoes....so good!) I enjoyed this so much and since I had a light breakfast this morning, I finished the pizza off while giving a couple of slices for my parents to sample. Other noteworthy items on the menu include the Strawberry Bacon Pizza (strawberry, bacon, candied jalapenos, ricotta spread, bellissimo mozzarella topped with goat cheese and basil), the Cobb Salad (chopped romaine tossed in a gribiche dressing topped with beet pickled eggs, avocado, tomato, pickled red onions, bacon, blue cheese, and your choice of house smoked meat either salmon fillet or Cajun chicken breast), the Chicken Enchilada (shredded chicken, hominy, Monterey jack, cheddar, and tomatillo apple verde in a flour tortilla topped with green chile sour cream served with a side of Mexican rice), and the Potato, Leek, and Sausage Pizza (AK reindeer sausage, roasted potatoes, grilled leeks, red pepper flakes, roasted red onions, and mozzarella with garlic cream sauce). Very inventive dishes, a lively and fun atmosphere to dine in, and an awesome option for me to study in case I get burned out going to the cafes. The idea for this visit is credited to my stepfather who suggested this place as well as several Yelpers I spoke to regarding the food and the unique look of the restaurant. The Rustic Goat has gained another fan and I look forward to coming back and trying out their dinner menu as well as some of the desserts available that we couldn't try since we were so full afterwards. Yes, the building is very nice. However, the food is expensive and mediocre. Ordered the pepperoni pizza and it was somehow overcooked and luke-warm at the same time. Burger was OK- but for $12 was tiny. The highlight of the meal was the fries and dipping sauce that came with the burger. Maybe next time I'm in the mood for a beer and some fries I'll stop back by, but otherwise there's better places in Anchorage for burgers, brews, and pizza. Someone at the visitor center recommended this place and I had high hopes. I will be back to try it again, but the first experience was pretty awful. I walked in during the afternoon. There were enough people in the restaurant, but it wasn't crowded. There was no one at the host stand, but there wasn't a sign that said seat yourself either. I stood there awkwardly for a moment, before taking a seat at one of the long tables that was open. A couple did the same thing after me. They waited awkwardly for a moment before taking a seat a few bar stools down from me. We waited for about ten minutes before a server went up to the couple and offered them menus. They got water and drinks. Then he took their order. I was on somewhat of a time constraint so I just left, not wanting to wait longer for the food to be prepared even if I went up and asked someone for a menu. I'll be back to see if the food was as good as he said it was, but the service wasn't great. read more

Let me start by saying the Rustic Goat is good. Good not great. I wanted to go somewhere nice with my wife. I had heard of mixed things from coworkers and friends regarding RG and decided I wanted to try it out. The place has an upscale look and feel about it. Too look at it you think "wow this is nice!" However the upscale feel doesn't follow through to the food and the service. We sat at the bar and were able to see the food preparation. Pretty cool! What wasn't cool is watching a server not once, not twice but three times grab a French fry out of a basket going to a customer and eat it. He would do it quick thinking no one saw him. This same server constantly bumped into my wife's chair as he was going to and from customers. Sure the place is small but other servers were able to manage without bumping into customers. The menu offers some good options. I had the portobello mushroom sandwich which I thought was really good! It came this healthy chips too. My wife had the BLT. Not so good. Honestly she could have made a better BLT at the house. We also ordered a side of fries thinking our sandwich did not come with fries. The server neglected to mention her this to us. Not good! Overall I feel RG is trying to be something they aren't. The feel of the place is upscale but the food is okay at best. Attention to details are important as well. I went to the restroom and washed my hands only to discover no paper towels. I looked for toilet paper to dry my hands and there wasn't any. I did tell someone but restrooms should be checked. I've been here once prior to this rating for lunch (downstairs) and their margherita pizza was good. For this review, we made reservations for dinner in the upstairs area to celebrate a birthday. I asked ahead of time if the birthday guest was given some sort of tiny sweet, and if not, I would plan something else for them. She assured me they recognize all birthdays that they're told about and as she took the reservation, she noted "for birthday". When they called the morning of the reservation to confirm we were coming, I reminded her this was for a birthday. (Hey.. Just trying to make it a special occasion!) Worried mom that I am, when we arrived, I reminded the hostess, the waiter, everyone in the joint.. "this is the birthday girl" ...You know where this is going, right? :0( They do not provide a minuscule cupcake with a candle, nor a scoop of ice cream, nor even a verbal greeting. Nothing, nada, zilch. What a mistake to select this place for a birthday celebration! As far as the food, as I mentioned before, they make a good pizza. The dinner menu though? I agree with those who said it's good, but not great. If you haven't eaten dinner there before, this is important to keep in mind: On their menu they offer "small plates" and "large plates". A "small plate" does not mean a smaller dinner portion, it means "a tad smaller than an appetizer". Please keep that in mind when you're ordering because your waiter likely will not likely explain that to you. On the way out, I wanted to ask one last time about their birthday protocol, but couldn't locate our waiter. I tried to ask the lady at the downstairs front podium (desk) and she fled when she saw a question coming.. I asked a waitress heading up the stairs, and she responded with "yeah, we give birthday people a dessert" and she rolled her eyes, laughed, and kept walking. The Rustic Goat has great potential and they are well on the way to realizing it. There were both areas of excellence and a few that need improvement. We arrived early for dinner service, the hostess seemed inexperienced and despite the entryway being full of waiting guests she failed to greet anyone or explain that they would be opening in a few minutes. I imagine this will get sorted out soon as this was only their first week open. We were shown to a table and the service from that point on was excellent. Nik, our server was attentive and personable. He answered the questions he could, and when he didn't have the answers the Manager magically appeared at our table to take care of us. Anna, the manager, checked in with us and other tables to see that we were enjoying the meal. Plates were promptly bussed and the service level very good. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Great views and floor to ceiling windows on the east wall. It is a little noisier than I care for, but I really thought it was a lively and positive atmosphere. The view of the mountains is great. I also appreciated the clientele. Unlike other nice restaurants in Anchorage it seemed to be more of an eclectic mix of folks from the neighborhood. The food was mostly excellent. We ordered steamed clams as an appetizer, chicken Marsala and the ratatouille. Both main courses were great. Perfectly sear and cook on the chicken, pasta al dente, great aroma, and otherwise delicious. The clams needed some work. They were good., but the preserved lemon gave them an unpleasant bitter taste that marred an otherwise excellent dish. As for beverages, they have an excellent beer and wine list. The beers on tap represents favorites from local breweries and the wine list has a limited but excellent selection. I really appreciate that they seem to have picked a lot of the best bang for your buck bottles available and have a lower markup than most establishments. There were a lot of good choices in the 30-40 range which I appreciate. We finished with a dessert which I forgot the name, but it was an apple pastry served with a caramel ice cream. The pastry could have used a few more minutes in the oven to attain that golden brown crisp, but it was still delicious and will definitely get it again. One of thing I really appreciate is that when other restaurants in Anchorage are going in the style of chain-restaurants and having everything pre-made and buying everything from Cisco, this place is still making food from scratch and buying from local artesian bakeries. The menu is diverse although not huge, but there's definitely something for everyone. My overall impression is that despite a few issues, this place will soon be one of my favorite restaurants in Anchorage. The wife and I joined friends at The Rustic Goat on its third night after opening. The draft beer selection consisted of all local craft beers, so that was a definite plus. The menu was not especially large, but the quality of the food certainly made up for the one page of offerings. We opted to do a tapas style sampling of most of their appetizers. What a treat! We were all pretty satisfied having sampled their meat/cheese platter, fried olives, calamari, breadsticks, pulled pork nachos, and smokey mac'n cheese. Great comfort food for a wintery night. The salads we had were very good as well consisting of fresh mixed greens, and accompanying "garnishes" depending on the type of salad ordered. The wife and I shared The Rustic Goat salad which we enjoyed immensely. We will definitely be back to sample the pizzas and other main dishes! Other note of interest is that the warm and pleasant atmosphere can be attributed to the interior design. The tables, floors, stairs and other major components of the establishment are constructed out of the wood from the old Wards Cove cannery in Kenai. We made reservations for dinner since the place always seems packed. We arrived early and snagged a spot at the counter. The beer selection was good. We were escorted upstairs which was beautiful. Someone took a lot of time and care when planning this place. We ordered the steamed clams, blue cheese salad, cioppino and rib eye. For the price I expected more clams but the flavor was a good spicy mix. The salad was great. The bacon jam should not be missed. As for the large plates.... They were okay. Cioppino was topped with smoked salmon (made it feel like cat food) and it could use more Broth base. The rib eye needed seasoning. It wasn't the best or the worst I've ever had. The German chocolate cake was amazing! We may try back in a few months to see if they've changed up anything. Be warned. Parking is horrible. There are never any spots in their lot! I finally went back to the Rustic Goat, and let me say, what a big improvement! It was a girlfriend's birthday and that's where she chose to go and I have to admit, I was hesitant at first, but so glad in the end. I recommended/instructed my friends that we should get a bottle of wine rather than individual glasses as I was still concerned about the skimpiness of the glass pour. We got a great bottle of tempranillo at an affordable price. The waitress was happy to let us sample two different wines side by side before making a decision. We ordered the pork nachos and the charcuterie/cheese sampler for an appetizer. The pork nachos, with the candied jalapenos, fresh tomatoes, cilantro and creme fraiche were incredibly savory and the chips fresh and maintained their crispiness under all the yummy toppings. The meat and cheese sampler was a taste bud sensation. Not your run of the mill choices, this platter boasted pork pate, spicy coppa, creamy goat gouda, blue cheese with pickled blueberries. Pickled wha? yeah, they were good. I started with the kale salad with garlic dressing and bacon bits. The kale was fresh and had had some time to be tenderized by the dressing. The dressing was appropriately blended in - not too much and not too little. The bacon was a bit too crunchy for me, but no big deal. I had the 4 cheese gnocchi with pork tenderloins. The mushroom cream sauce was incredibly rich and delicious which made me glad they didn't over do it. The pork tenderloins were perfectly cooked - very moist. The portion? just right. My friends had the ribeye and the sausage & ribeye skewers. I only tasted the ribeye and I thought the rub of ancho/molasses/coffee was a fun spin and very tasty. My friend commented that the temperature may have been off from her requested medium but still enjoyed her meal. All in all, the server was very attentive and sweet and the food was very good and satisfying. We came in starving for a late Sunday brunch and got the Braised Lamb Hash. We ordered it with no potatoes to make it lower carb. They subbed the potatoes for a really delicious veggie medley including asparagus and broccolini. Not going to lie, the two of us demolished the entire skillet. Husband who doesn't eat low carb ate the giant pita on top. I think with potatoes it probably would have been too dense for us to finish, but without we took care of it and were both full. read more

However you've got to be able to bail Salmon dishes in Alaska. Ordered the salmon (most expensive on menu) first half was great second half was under cooked aka raw. On top of that came across 3 bones. I would have sent it back however my wait staff never checked in to see how I was doing. They also do espresso in the morning- my suggestion- stick with Aps, beer, burgers and Pizza. 28$ bucks for a poorly prepared Salmon was not what you'd expect from the vibe you walk into. read more

Somewhat limited parking but it has bike racks. There is outdoor seating on an upstairs patio. The pizza we had was really good...fantastic crust (which is really the most important aspect of a pizza). had the brick-oven texture and taste...very different from Moose's Tooth. We will be back regularly. We did come in for breakfast once but left without eating. The menu for breakfast is really limited and didn't have what we wanted. Have been here a few times now and the food and service is always good. Burgers are probably some of the best I've had and I know my burgers! Had to give it a 3 only because of the parking situation. I know it's supposed to be a neighborhood type place where people walk or ride in, but it's just not the case always. Last time I was there since I live close I was looking for a bike rack. I was born and raised in this neighborhood, living here for the most part since 1959. I've been looking forward to the opening of the Rustic Goat for some time. I've been three times since. Once midday (where I ran into two school mates from West, one of whom I had not seen since 1977); and twice at night (both times where I saw people from the neighborhood whom I hadn't seen in a couple of years, including one state senator). So clearly it's already a place where you're going to run into old friends and neighbors. You gotta love that. In the big scheme of things, it has not disappointed in any way. It's apparent that the GM is both experienced and truly committed, along with the staff she's chosen, to true excellence. The chef is creative and the menu is interesting. (My first time here, I had the calamari, prepared in a southwest style, and it was the best I've ever had anywhere.) The beer and wine list is well chosen and decently priced. The building, windows, ironwork, sculpturing- absolutely beautiful. By design, the building seems to artistically take advantage of the natural light at every time of the day (that I've been there.) The place has many things going for it- all ingredients for success. As with all new ventures, there are glitches. Parking, novelty crowding, noise, keeping the food hot during the treks up the stairs - these are challenges. Management is not clueless and is working on solutions. Because there is a commitment to quality, I know quality will prevail. I can't wait to see this place in a month. I'm confident it is going to be stellar. Thanks for bringing it to the neighborhood. The decline of one of my favorites. Wait time was over twice the quoted time (50 min vs 20 quoted) with no updates from host staff. While not rude, improvements could have been made. Out server was great - no complaints there. The food was okay. Usually better. Pizza was half burned, enough to mention, but otherwise good. Bison sliders (two to an order) were okay. Well where do I start? The Parking is AWFUL! As the owners knew it was going to be....and ordering anything here is a pain in the A@@...the menu is different if you sit upstairs instead if downstairs as well as if you sit outside...so I can't order certain things depending on where I sit?? REALLY?? Them when you do figure out what you can order where they are out of half of the menu! Poor planing poor service, mediocre food....not worth the hassle!!! read more

Food is fine. Not ground-breaking menu, but consistently good. Ambience good. Loud downstairs. Problem is the service and seating. Don't tell me it's a 20 minute wait and 60 minutes later I'm still waiting. The food is not worth a 60 min wait. They need to work on their service and seating issues. read more

Menu is interesting, for the most part tasty. A bit pricey and some items are hit or miss, but a good spot to try something new.

Better late than never! We've been wanting to head over and try this place out. Nice decor inside, also liked the lighting. We sat upstairs next to the fireplace (it wasn't lit at the time but I can imagine adding some really nice ambiance in the winter). Our waitress was on top of it, great service. We ordered the Mac and cheese, pulled pork nachos and the sliders. Everyone loved their apps. The nachos are HUGE so they are great to share. For dinner we ordered 4 different pizzas (the leek and potato, strawberry and bacon, chorizo, clam and bacon). They were all tasty but my personal favorite was the strawberry one. I had a Cobb salad that was delicious and great presentation with plenty for left overs. A friend who has a very restrictive diet was able to order the cauliflower flatbread and the chef accommodated her requests with no problem. No dessert but their options sounded outstanding. Great selection of wines and beers. We will be back! read more

Disclaimer: This is from a vegetarian... Scanned the menu on-line ahead of time to ensure some veggie options. Saw 4-cheese gnocchi with mac & cheese as a back-up. Upon arrival and going through the menu, found out the mac&cheese has bacon added to it and the gnocchi has pork tenderloin added to it. Not optional add-ons for extra $, but that's the way they come. Seriously? It's 2015 people. We were going to ask about other options perhaps not on the menu or what they could do (didn't want pizza, the only other choice), but it was busy and we weren't getting much in the way of service so just left. So forgive me for submitting a review to a place I wasn't actually able to sample the food. read more
