Not pictured was a half-order of pulled pork smoked nachos. Incredible. The burger? Best I've had in Anchorage. A lettuce-wrapped bacon swiss with candied jalapeños was a perfect combination of sweet and spice. Definitely a 1/2 pound as advertised. The butter chicken lacked any flavor. It tasted as if the sauce and chicken were cooked separately, and not simmered appropriately. I don't recommend this dish, and the only reason for 4 stars, but consider it a 4.5/5. Enjoy! read more

Great service! Get the clams!!!!!!! The nachos were a great starter. Plenty for 7 people. A few people split the clams (3-4 servings) and holy cow was it amazing!! The leek and potato pizza was good and comforting food, but the Buffalo sliders were a disappointment. Came here after 16 hours on a plane on the way to the hotel for the night. A local on the plane seated next to me suggested it and it was on the way so we popped in. We went in blind and just ordered the Butternut Sausage Pasta. It was, without exaggeration, the best pasta I've ever had in my life. I can't really speak to anything else but if the rest of the menu is half as good as that pasta, this might be the best restaurants I've ever been to. read more

This restaurant is a nope for me. I went to late lunch with a friend and the atmosphere was loud - from guests talking to servers bustling around to dishes clanging. The tables were spread apart from others and decor was set up as if to welcome quiet groups for a relaxing meal when in reality it sounded like a downtown pub on a Friday night. By the time I added shrimp to my panzanella salad, it was $24, and it wasn't worth it. For $12 it would be a decent lunch special but for $24 it was underwhelming and felt a bit like they pulled one over on me. The fried cauliflower bites were good because they were large bites with the right ratio of breading vs cauliflower; they were slightly undercooked and I'm need of salt, however. Our server was friendly yet inattentive. The restaurant was not particularly busy while we were there but we never got a chance to ask for salt for our cauliflower or a refill on our teas until the end, and we had to hunt her down for almost ten minutes to pay the bill. All of our first time here and there is parking with minimal space. Thou can park across the street with a few. I highly suggest making reservations ahead of time, we waited only 5 minutes and often it's a half hour wait without a reservation. Long anticipation to come here as we all were hungry from the rain and cool lovely weather. We sat upstairs and it's a lively scene and had a view overlooking picturesque mountains and trees. Service was friendly and our waitress was in a rush thou took her time with us. We ordered a few pizza- margarita with honey and it was flavorful according to my friends mama. We had the chicken masala and chicken seemed to have been boiled and tossed With masala sauce. This dish lacked salt, lacked flavor which was disappointing. My pizza was the mushroom with truffle sauce. There was no flavor in the crust. The medley of mushrooms was lackluster, no flavor unfortunately and the spice they added removed the flavor of the truffle. The pizza was $19 and this was expensive considering it was not edible. Would we return? Possibly and order the staples that are a hit here which are the nachos and salads. We ended up not finishing our food and ordering out at a famous pizza joint in downtown Anchorage. read more

After living in ANC for 6 years I finally made it to the RG. I shouldn't have wait so long. We had the Moroccan Cauliflower and the Special, Lamb Shank Ravioli. The cauliflower was exceptional, as was the lamb. We accompanied the entrees with some really nice reds. We also had the Bread Pudding for dessert, which was also incredible. This place has a kind of high-end postmodern vibe, with various exotic dishes. But it's not all posturing -- the food is great. The number of vegan or vegetarian options is limited, but they're good. I had the Moroccan Cauliflower, which was awesome. Such a wonderful combination of flavors and textures. The cauliflower was slightly crispy but still juicy and tender, and the fried garbanzo beans added just the right crunch. Found this place purely from reviews because it's in a neighborhood and it's an odd two-story modern-looking building that you would think is an office if you drove by. Started off at the goat nachos. They were very fun it's a nice marinated goat everything is put into this big wood fired pizza looking thing and then that's how they melt the cheese and it comes right out on a wooden platter and it's fun. We opted for the big clams and sausage appetizer to split between the two of us as our meal and it is way too much food with tons of sausage, potatoes, and clams. If you sit at the bar you can watch them warm this giant pita as it swells up to the size of a basketball that they drape over the top of the hot skillet full of food you're about to receive. Stopped by at the Rustic Goat a few days ago for dinner with friends and all in all, it was a decent meal. Service was good, and we were seated quickly. We started off with the Vegan Hummus Platter, which comes with a HUGE bowl of hummus, two types of harissa, avocado (no olive medley for us, not sure why...), mini peppers, and pita slices. We finished all the peppers and pita and still had a good 1/2 of the dip and harissa left over. We tried the Bison Sliders which were... something. The Bison patty itself tasted okay, not seasoned very well... but the vanilla fig jam was what threw me off. It is not something that I am used to. Definitely boujee and an acquired taste. My husband got the Truffle Mushroom Pizza, it was alright. Could not taste the chili oil at all. Looks fancy but tastes basic. Now... I got the Drunken Clams and Sausage... let me tell you, that sh*t came out looking sexyyy as f*ckkkk. Manila Clams - briny, chewy, delicious. Reindeer and Andouille Sausage - perfectly seasoned with a satisfying SNAP when you bite into the outer casing. Fingerling Potatoes - soft and fluffy. And some sort of pepper that added a bit of sourness/acidity to the dish. All of this tossed in creamy sauce served with some warm pita to dip into the sauce. I have eaten at the Goat 3-5 times. Each time in feel the food is solid and somewhat unique. However, the attitude of the waitstaff has gone from helpful and kind to snooty and elitist. Last time I visited I arrived fairly close to opening without a reservation. No parties in front of me. I was told to sit and wait, since I had no reservation. After 10 minutes was asked upstairs or down. I pointed to my rollator (rolling walker with a seat), and she pointed across the dining area to the elevator. Well, upstairs it was! We were taken to the far corner of the upstairs dining, navigating all the the empty tables between the elevator and our far corner seat. We ordered the nachos with the pork. Excellent. That is the only thing that will make me come back. We left maybe an hour after arriving. Still only 5 parties in the restaurant. The delay and the remote seating was not necessary based on their business. Pity, that the staff believes that they should be treated as a Michelin-star establishment. A hipster place, w/ a good vibe and good beer on draft as you'd expect. Pizza is typically great. Main dishes are wildly over priced and the portions built for profit. I ordered the Scallops over risotto ($42). The scallops were caramelized only on one side and i don't think the other side touched the heat. The risotto was ok, but served luke warm to room temp. That went along w/ the scallops which came out underdone. The dish looked good, but i I took two bites and called it a day. The server didn't offer to remake...they just took it off the bill and apologize. That's unfortunate bc I would have given the chef another shot to show her stuff. 2 out of 5 since the salad and beer were good...those are tough to screw up. read more

Do not order the cauliflower appetizer. Cauliflower was baked/fried similar to calamari and came with housemade (we think??) sour cream and cocktail sauce. Ambience however was lovely. There were many windows which made for a beautiful view of the snow outside. Our waiter, Adam, was lovely and very helpful. 10/10 Adam. Unfortunately, because the cauliflower made us sick we were unable to eat the rest of our food. For what it's worth, the pesto pizza looked great and the kale salad was really yummy. read more

I WANT TO LIKE THIS PLACE SO BAD. I've been eating at the Goat for YEARS and I've been praying the time would never come to write this review, but guys... it's time... Do Not Eat Here. First, the Goat is a DOPE spot. Beautiful building, awesome neighborhood location, great goat logo, huge windows, sunny patio (in the summer), local ownership, good service. It's even kinda ~*~TrEnDy~*~. If you're lucky enough to live nearby, it's a great to walk or bike. But--and I hate to say it--the food is bad. That calamari steak dish that used to be fresh and light and creative? Well it's overcooked, rubbery, and uninspired 4 years later. The chicken marsala? The chicken is chalk white and the sauce is more like fettuccine alfredo but... somehow even cheesier and less flavorful at the same time... Cheese water? Hard to describe really. The bison sliders that used to be juicy and a great pre-meal app? Now they're bone-dry, both bun and patty. The vegan stir fry with peanut butter sauce? To start off with, nothing is "stir fried," but that's not the problem - it's flavorless and the only thing that is vegan are some shredded carrots from Costco and a few chopped up broccoli stems. The beer menu is OK - but a far cry from the amazing tap list at Hearth. Sadly, all in, this place squanders its incredible potential with bland, consistently disappointing dishes. read more

It not only sounds interesting on the menu, it looks incredible when brought to you, and tastes far better than you could've hoped. Not only did we order nachos, but also a gyro pizza, and bison sliders. All of it was scrumptious to the last bite. The chairs were a bit uncomfortable, but the ambiance was great, and they gave me a free dessert for my birthday! P.S. The more comfy chairs are in the upstairs section. Honestly.. the food was so good, I forgot about the steep prices. I haven't been here in about 3 years, but decided to revisit for a date and we were blown away by how great everything was. Service was spot on. Our server Carlie, was knowledgeable about the new menu and suggested some things to us and everything ended up being phenomenal. I had the Flat Iron Wedge Salad (steak salad), my partner had the Shrimp Scampi and we ordered the Bread Pudding for desert. The vibe is perfect for a date or even a quick cider or beer. It's been a while, (8yrs to be exact), since I've dined here. Rustic Goat undoubtedly has the best building, in the best location. I still need to check the patio out during warmer months. Parking can be hard to come by, as this visit we had to park in the overflow lot across the street. Our hostess, who also ended up being our server, wasn't very friendly, although she was accommodating. We sat upstairs where you're truly able to appreciate the craftsmanship and ambiance of the building. We were unable to find something on tap that we liked. We ordered the Passion Fruit Hefe in bottles. They came chilled with beer glasses. They were so crisp and perfect. We each had the grilled romaine salad with blue cheese and bacon jam that initially looked small, but was very tasty and filling. We also got the potatoe, leeks, and sausage pizza. Same as every other restaurant in anchorage right now Rustic Goat is doing the best they can with what seems like busy restaurants and limited staffing. Service and food might take a bit longer but the food is great. I've enjoyed just about everything I've tried here, with a shining favorite being the nachos to start (candied jalapeños really shine in this dish) and a great selection of unique pizza (leek and potato a shocking favorite, who knew you could put potato on pizza?!)
