What restaurant in TX in June on an almost 100 degree day doesn't turn on the AC (but had AC in the restrooms)? What restaurant on Father's Day of all days doesn't have four of the items that comprise over a third of the dishes and combos offered- no brisket, ribs, sausage or chicken? What restaurant has live music so loud you think your at the House of Blues and your server cannot even hear your order without shouting and repeating it twice then pointing to the menu? Well, Ruston Cattle Co that's who. the music was so loud we finally decided to get our food to go Because we couldn't have any conversation at all. I should have known 15 minutes later (after waiting a half hour for it to be bagged up) when we got home and started unpacking it that any restaurant that includes a side of steak sauce with a 48.00 Waygu filet was a bad sign. The sauce turned out to be the tastiest thing about the meal. the meat was tender but had absolutely NO flavor. Not even the blacking spice either. The loaded baked potatoe that came with it was half raw, had no butter, a couple livers of cheese, barely any sour cream and no bacon or chives. Guess the Chef needs a dictionary to understand what loaded is. The drinks are served in styrofoam cup, and we had to keep knocking flies out of ours. The smoked queso app tasted like tomato soup with some ground beef thrown in it. My brother ordered the Waygu rib (a signature dish for this place) and said he was glad we took it home because he had to slather it in sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce to eat one of them. He feed the second to the dog. His extra side of truffle cheese mashed potatoes came in styrofoam, and in the restaurant it's served in a paper fry tray, was minuscule, and flavorless and lumpy. the salad was wilted, the croutons were mushy, and the dressing is bottled. Overall it was the most disappointing Father's Day meal ever, but we saw the other glowing reviews and didn't want to drive to Dallas, but I've honestly had better meals at Outback and the Keg steakhouse, and we won't ever make that mistake again, and will stick with tried and proven quality and portions. If you're going to spend 50 bucks on a steak, and want to enjoy it, in a comfortable atmosphere go to Pappa Bros, Bobs Chop house, or for a better steak, service, atmosphere, and choices at a much better cost go to the Keg in Arlington. Thankfully, I had made a cherry pie for dessert (Dad's favorite) so we devoured that with some TX Braums vanilla ice cream to save the day for him. read more

Noisy and felt cramped seating was so close together. Won't be going back. Can't afford it and don't like sitting so close to other tables. Was ready to walk out it took so long to get our food. I've now been here 4 times and my food has always been excellent! Can't go wrong with the rib eye and baked potato! Today they were very short staffed. Hostess explained they were short on employees and it would be a 20 minute wait. No problem. The place only had 2 waitresses working. The bar is a great place to have a meal Ashley the bar tender will make you feel at home. She can make an awesome smoked old fashion out of some of the best bourbon sold. Ok. This was the first time we went there on one of our rare dates out that we get. The service was ok. But the menu is sub par. The menu had only a few selections. Only steaks, burgers, one chicken item and a pork chop. They claim that ots wygue. No it isn't. Well, not what you'd expect. We wind up having smothered patties. Which supposed to be brown gravy. It was a Salisbury steak mess. Looked like they opened a TV dinner and put it on the skillet. The patties were definitely frozen pre formed burger patties. Just terrible. The steaks are over priced and from what I've seen, they looked it. The reasoning behind they're stupid sides are ridiculous. The meal comes with a baked potato. That's it. What the hell. You can sub the potato with two regular sides. Choice of fucking 3 or 4. You can add a side salad instead. But there is a 2 dollar up charge. So we ordered 2 other sides. Corn and pinto beans. The corn tasted weird and beans were under cooked and they fricking charged $3 for a scope of corn, one fricking scoop of corn, and 3 for a scoop of beans. Don't get me started on the one bite corn bread. Another thing. The meal didn't come with a roll or anything. We ordered Chips and queso.. hmm. Couldn't even get that right. The Ronnie's cheese ever. One little cup for 2lbs of chips. The saddest part is, the side salad and tea were the best things that we had. Where was BBQ items I heard about. The owner and manager ought to be ashamed to have a sorry excuse for a menu and sub par food. It's terrible when your salad and tea is the best thing you serve. Yall need a lot of work. I remember when this used to be the old red moon honky tonk. I came here on a Saturday about 4 o'clock and there was no one here! It was nice to have a spacious cool place to be. I've been to so many barbecue places all over Austin and it's exhausting having to wait in line or pay some enormous bill. Coming to Ruston was a great change of pace. It is easy to park, easy to get a table with no one around us, our waitress was named Heather and she was very helpful. I got the big potato with brisket and it was effing huge. My dining partner got a little bit of a sampler platter and he took leftovers. I'm very impressed with the way that the brisket tasted. It was incredibly soft. You probably don't even need teeth to eat this. We had a very nice visit and time here. We didn't feel rushed and we really enjoyed soaking in the atmosphere. I was excited to see that they have four dollar margaritas and six dollar top shelf margaritas. I splurge for top self margarita and then I had to splurge again for the sequel. Very tasty margarita. Heather told us that everything they make is in house they don't use canned stuff. You can tell margaritas are homemade. Way to go. Hopefully Ruston keeps the reasonable prices on the booze and not get too big for their britches. read more

The chips, salsa and queso are delish, who would've thought at a BBQ and steak place. Actually everything we've had there has been delicious, service is prompt, and the staff are friendly and attentive. The only time we've had a wait is on busy weekends when there is live music. Only complaint the fans get pretty cold, and they said they can't adjust them, man I would like an old person, but bring your sweater. lol read more

We recently discovered this gem in Ennis. Go and judge for yourself. We were not disappointed. We are big steak fans and we do treat ourselves to some of the top Steak restaurants in Dallas on special occasions, but Ruston definitely holds its own. The filet and the rib eye have been our go to. Both reasonably priced and cooked to perfection. The flavor is wonderful and melts in your mouth. Try the Burnt Ends ...... they were a delicious appetizer. First time for those! We have taken 2 other couples with us at different times and all of us have had a very positive experience. It is crowded and there is a wait, know that before you go. The servers are attentive and do a great job taking care of a full house! You are greeted with a smile by the hostess and seated as soon as possible. Well worth the wait! Drinks are strong, steaks are tender and delicious, music and atmosphere are fun and welcoming. We drove 40 minutes Saturday evening to eat here because our best friends had been talking about the food for awhile. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Our server, April, was lovely and on top of everything (My drink never ran out). We asked her for recommendations and followed her advice. The four of us shared the Burnt Ends (Brisket Tips) appetizer and the Queso/Salsa combo. The Burnt Ends were unbelievably good. It would make an awesome meal itself. WOW! We will definitely get it every time. The Queso/Salsa was good, but I don't know if we'd get it again. Three of us ordered ribeye and one ordered the strip. Be ready, the ribeye is huge but so good. The two men finished theirs, but I took 1/2 home to our son who devoured it the next day (Warmed up well). My best friend got the strip (smaller than the ribeye) and although at one point in her life she had been a vegetarian, she ate every bite. We were extremely happy with the food, cleanliness, and the service , and we will make the drive again. If I had to find a negative, I would say that the bathroom stalls are ridiculously small. Came in with a group of four for dinner and drinks. The staff were super friendly, and I have no complaints about the service. We decided to try almost everything on the menu, and I was really impressed. There's a lot of good BBQ/meat in Texas but this was by far my favorite. I liked it better than Pecan Lodge, Hutchins BBQ, and Sam's BBQ which are all over-hyped in my opinion. The flavors are well-balanced and not over-powering. Everything was tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. All the sides are delicious and complement the main dishes well. Dessert was a big hit with our group too! The live country singer was a great addition to the ambiance. I think this place is worth a visit whether you have a family with kids or are looking for dinner and drinks with friends. Food was horrible. Steak was chared. Bake potato was not cooked and cold. Our brisket had no flavor. Our sausage was cold. Mac n cheese was burnt beans were to spicy to eat. They make their potato salad with ranch dressing. And on top of it all the customer service was horrible. The server was awesome. The salad was good. The wine was good. The baked potato was good. We went early (5:00 - 5:30). We ordered the ribeye steaks. Glad I didn't splurge on the wagyu steaks ($75-125 each). My husband's medium ribeye steak was less than medium and was over seasoned. But he was okay with it. My medium well steak.....well was simply terrible. I sent it back twice. And by the third time it came, parts were over cooked and the middle was finally edible. It was definitely underseasoned. I ate a few bites. My husband ate a piece of it. Most of it went home to our dog, who enjoyed the doggie bag though. My wine was really good. I didn't enjoy getting water in a styrofoam cup! I don't know if I will go back or not. Maybe. But I will.never.get.a.steak.there.again! Waitress said it would be great. It really and truly was NOT! I had heard good things about this place. I was very disappointed. I did like the wine - at least it was served in real glass. I loved the waitress. She was trying very hard. We Stopped here because we were craving BBQ after cruising around looking the bluebonnets over and being from Collin County, we are use to great BBQ. It was a little after lunch so we hit it at an odd time and possibly that's why the food was under par. The staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered a couple of appetizers and one of them, the burnt ends, was not available due to the lunch rush cleaning them out. After a few minutes they told us it was just now available, coming out of the smoker. Of course we ordered right away, only to be disappointed in the result. Our food was very tough to chew, more than half fat, they might have left that in the smoker a little longer to make it tender and tender some of that fat off it. They took it off the bill so that's a plus. I probably won't go back just because there's too many options to settle for something that may or may not be good. I ate there this evening for the first time & was not impressed. One of the 3 appetizers they offered, they were out of the one I requested (Burnt Ends). I ordered the 16 oz. Wagyu Ribeye & was told it only came with a baked potato , I said I didn't want a baked potato and was offered no substitute. I asked for a side salad of which I was charged an additional $5.00. The salad was served in a plastic bowl which made it hard to cut up the whole slices of cucumber & radishes. The salad was very fresh & tasty. The $48 16 oz. Ribeye was cooked perfect but was way over seasoned to the point I had to drink 3 glasses of water to finish. Service was good & friendly but for a steak & salad for $57, it was not worth it. I also asked for a Wagyu Rib for $10 that they had on their chalk board & was told they were out of that also. I got there at 6:30 in the evening and it was not packed. They have a full bar but when I asked what they have on draft, I was told, although they were set up for it, they no longer sold draft because it didn't sell enough. I visit Ennis quite often and was hoping to fine a replacement for Firehouse Grill that closed during the Covid pandemic but is not this place. Won't be back. read more
