Different cheesesteak #1033 in the last four years. This was a fun step back into 1950's Mayberry USA. I loved everything about this visit except the $11 (9.25 + 1.75 for mushrooms). I've been here twice and this is turning into my go-to place for samiches. From pulled pork to subs and cheesesteaks, this place does not disappoint. It's evident that the place is legit because of the amount of road workers and locals that come here. It has enough seating to eat inside and relax. What really makes it special is the staff - half of whom are Veterans. Small family owned and operated business. Happened to stumble upon this gem while passing through because of the previous reviews. The family who owns it is pleasant and you can tell they care about the business. We ordered 2 cheesesteaks. $9 for a small 7" and $12.50 for a large 14". I'd recommend getting the large! I split the large with a friend. All the add-ons aside from the mushrooms are free! So we added lettuce, tomato, and grilled onions but you can also get hot or banana peppers and more! The shop is open to the back where you can see all the ingredients are fresh! They also have breakfast options, drinks, and chips! Because of covid this shop lost their main supplier of their sub rolls and bread. Their new supplier sometimes gets to them late or not at all. This isn't a reflection on their establishment and or quality and care of their family owned and operated business. Make sure to give them a chance even if the bread supply is low! It's great food like this and people willing to stop in that keeps them in business. I promise you won't be disappointed! Also to the review of people not wearing masks, I'm from New York where all restaurants employees are REQUIRED to wear masks. When you get good and tasty food with really good service you have hit the jackpot. That's what Rust's is all about. In the three times I have been there with my husband we have tried the cheese steak, chicken cheese steak and hot Italian subs. All wonderful with plenty of meat. The crinkle fries are fried perfectly with a crunchy outside and a hot soft inside. The folks who work the shop are cordial and very nice. I say give it a try because you won't be disappointed. This is a cozy place farm style place. The staff are friendly and make you feel welcome from the time you start your order. I had a teak and cheese, which in my opinion, they have the right stuff.the sub was enough for two people (lol) that my server brought me a fork informing me that I was going to needed. Some friends and I stopped by here on the way to the shore, and we couldn't have been happier. We decided to stop at local spots rather than fast food, and Rust, which has been here since 1937, hit the spot. With old timey gas pumps and signs outside, and lots of old photos inside, the small place serves inexpensive, delicious Southern-style sandwiches (including breakfast all day.) Aside from what you might expect at a sandwich shop, they have other southern fare like pork roll and pickled beets. It's run by the Rust family still and is a throwback to when highways were two lanes and lots of little mom and pop stores served travelers. We got an egg, cheese and bacon on bagel, a egg and cheese on toast, and another one which my buddy ate too fast for me to see what it was, plus some pickled beets and home fries. However, the Rust family which runs it (on that day it seemed to be mom, dad and a young daughter) came over to apologize that they didn't have home fries, gave us our money back for them, and gave us free hash browns. It was a nice touch that just served to remind us of what we all miss when we drive big highways or only stop at fast food spots. Worth a stop, or even a detour if you like history and inexpensive, tasty sandwiches. read more

This is one of the best little sandwich shops in this area. On Rt 24 between Oak Orchard and MountAire poultry plant. Looks like a 60's gas station with two ole style pumps out front. Don't be fooled. I can't get enough of the BLT. My wife loves the grilled ham and cheese. Stop in and see for your self. You might even get a chance to talk with Mr. Rust. read more

I've passed by this place many times and was always curious about them so we finally stopped today and had some delicious subs. This is the best cheesesteak I've had in a really long time. The cheese was completely melted within the steak, it was just fantastic. If you were really hungry I would suggest the large 14 inch sub. Also had their Italian sub which was very good. Tater tots were crispy on the outside and creamy in the middle. My daughter had a grilled cheese that was really quite exceptional. It was just cheese and bread but there was a lot of cheese everything was melted the bread was nice and soft and buttery, all in all an excellent grilled cheese. Even a plain hotdog that we got was very good. It had been cooked on the flat top and had great flavour. The staff was very nice they got my order correct with all sorts of weird requests.
