My boyfriend really likes this bar. I think it's fine but prefer The Mill or Bentley's over the Nail. They do make a really good salad and usually have some nice beers on tap so I can't fault them there. I just don't love the atmosphere as much here as I do at the other two places. Great neighborhood place. I came here with my SO for the birthdate free wing special (details on their website, and other reviewers). Excellent wings, really good size, especially the drumettes were quite large. Multiple sauce choices. Cooked crispy as we requested. I went for the "hot" which to me is more like a medium (I like spicy foods so this might be hot to you). Good flavor. Even better was the buffalo garlic parm sauce which was surprisingly good. Really good. We didn't eat nearly as many wings as my age but were very happy with the wings. Bleu cheese is extra $2. Got a birthday beer which ended up being $11 (Brooklyn Brown). but got out of there for a really low cost due to the wings being free, even with 18% service charge added because of the free wing special. 32 ounce plastic beer cup was mine to keep... We had spent the weekend in Saratoga Springs NY and about to head back downstate. We stopped at a place in Saratoga but after an hour wait, we came to learn our food ticket had not been sent to the kitchen and thus, would either have to restart the order or head out . We left without eating and hit the road. We were pretty hungry by the time we got to Halfmoon we almost were considering a Stewart's shops But we spied the Rusty Nail on the left. A great pub with sports on at 2 pm and a full menu. Fresh, hot, flavorful and varied menu with great beer selections (as the passenger I could appreciate this!) the French dip w/ au jus and fries didn't survive for left overs (100% ingested). The Italian melt was delicious for a person that likes that (apparently the pickles are the bomb too per my companion). But the tater tots were mind bendingly delicious. I never thought tater tot's could be so good! The waitstaff were kind, efficient, interactive and simply perfect. For only 15 min from Saratoga Statd Park, I'll be back when I'm in town next weekend. We actually tried taking my dad here for his birthday last year, but since we were *wingin' it* we arrived way too late, like the amateurs that we were, and the wait was just too much for the birthday boy to bear, so we had to resort to an ill-considered Plan B. Fast forward to this year, and we decided to give the birthday wing promo at the Rusty Nail another go. This time, we scooted up there and arrived just before five, and were able to sit right away (phew!). Note: once that 5 o'clock whistle blows, the bar fills up, as does the dining room, so you should probably anticipate a wait; patience is a virtue, right? The bar area can be a little noisy (duh), so we asked for a table in the dining room, with the late afternoon sun soaking the room in a healthy glow. The birthday boy splurged on a BOGO (buy one, get one) 32 oz. Blue Hawaiian birthday drink ($11), served in a large neon keepsake cup with, "I got nailed on my birthday at my favorite neighborhood tavern," emblazoned on one side (haha, fun!); I opted for a can of Nine Pin ($7), and some ice water. The dark horse might have been the garlic parm, because they came out looking a little unassuming, but they were 10/10 on the crispy and flavor scales. We specifically came for the birthday wings, and absolutely did not deviate from that plan, so I can't vouch for the entire menu, but I'd love to go back and give it a shot; however, it might be hard to *not* order some wings when I return... I have to keep it at 3 stars, but my last review was brief. Its your birthday, you want something free, here's a bunch of free chicken wings. However, getting a table might be the hard part. No reservations and this place is packed every night of the week. This last visit I felt lucky scoring a pair of seats at the bar. We arrived early to try to reserve a table for our party of 7. We were told 30-45 minutes wait - fine, great, we will be at the bar. After all our party arrived, had a beer, we started to wonder how long until our table was ready. "we are not sure' was the answer given by the hostess. Apparently a few tables have been there for hours. They offered us a tiny high top table to get our food on. I will say that the staff looked like they wanted to help, but it was just too busy and our group of 7 was big. The wings were OK. We asked for extra crispy, and they were, but they were also dry. Medium sauce was standard, the garlic parm was not good, and the 24 karat were a favorite (not of mine). All other food was common pub fare, nothing to write home about. I was excited for some sweet potato fries but they were limp. They also royally messed up our bill. Good thing we look because we were over charged almost $50 and sent the bill back twice. I personally wouldn't come here for my birthday. Maybe if you are 50+, come here and pig out! but avoid happy hour if possible! read more

Went in March for my birthday. My husband heard about one free wing for each year of age so we thought it would be fun. When you're 51 you can easily share with the table of eight. The server was nice. The food came quick. The prices were decent. The atmosphere was a bar, no complaints. My only complaint would be the table was tight and hard to access. This seemed to make passerby employees and guest annoyed. That said, food was good and I will go back. Thanks for making being old more fun! read more

I also got the hummus platter which came with a generous portion of hummus, seasoned pita bread that was sliced up and fresh veggies (carrots, green peppers and cucumbers). I would have preferred more veggies than bread but the bread was so good! The hummus I believe is roasted red pepper. I don't remember it saying that on the menu (I think it just says "hummus") but it was very good and they give a really nice sized portion. The place had pop music in the background. I would have stabbed myself in the eye with a fork if one more Justin Timberlake song came on. A little variety would be appreciated. The staff was super friendly (to me and to each other) and service was quick and friendly. Oh those wings though!!! If you haven't been here for those, you should make the effort!! Pit stop on our way to Burlington VT, we saw the signage on the interstate for this little hole in the wall. We popped in and grabbed some beer and an appetizer and lunch. We missed breakfast so we were pretty hungry! If you are into beer, they do have Untapped so you can check their beer on your app prior to going. We sat at the bar and had a super friendly bartender who made great recommendations. She suggested the piggy tots, which had pulled pork and jalapeños and bbq on top.. we got the 1/2 portion and it was still pretty filling but yummy. My husband got the wings (apparently they are well known for locally) and I got the bleu cheese burger with a cup of the broccoli and cheese soup. When you are traveling and need something ASAP and not too far off the main path, I would recommend this as a quick option. read more

Wings, Wings and more Wings!! Began our quest at Rusty Nail for SO's birthday last February. Obviously, two people cannot eat their way through multiple dozens of wings. The advantage, however, is that you get to try different wings they offer. My favorite has become the Hot Parmesan Garlic Wings (xtra crispy). Went back to Rusty Nail recently with a friend to celebrate the holiday's. The staff are always running but it does not take away from the wings. I came here on a busy Sunday to watch football. Great environment with even better service. Plenty of TV's giving you the option of many games at once. The food in total was lack luster. I had the garlic parm wings, pulled pork quesadillas & the pickle fries. My favorite out of the three was probably the pickle fries which were served with a chipotle dipping sauce. Have come here alot over the past 25 yrs..It was a Saturday 12/9 around 2:30 ... positives first, staff/bartender great!! Sat at the bar, it was busy, as expected. Ordered 20 wings Hot....halfway through the wings ordered Cheeseburger (American cheese) med w/fries. Wings came hot to the touch and also hot to the spice level. Blue cheese and celery fresh, but the wings I could tell...were not cooked fresh for me. They were probably cooked 1hr or 2 prior then dropped back into the grease as orders came in for about 1 min or so until brought to temp.. for the kitchen to keep up with demand. It didn't take long about 10 min or so for the wings to come out. They were crispy, but dry, and just not fresh..a complete let down. I can get better wings in a few local spots then this. The Cheeseburger I ordered medium came out ..Charred/black cooked to death, dry etc etc. Fries were cold/old...which I said something to the bartender etc...Manager said she was very sorry, agreed with me. Offered to cook a new one, but I declined asked to take it off the bill, so I could just get out of there, which it was. Just my opinion...The Rust Nail has gone downhill over the past 6/7 yrs or so....I've had way better experience going off peak hrs and days...but just be consistent which they have not been the last 4 or so times I've been there. Been coming to this restaurant for years. Tonight , after a very long day we thought we'd order in. When attempting to order DoorDash, the restaurant completely left a 19 dollar burger off the order ( the bag was sealed by them). We called immediately, thought we had the manager, but were hung up on. Packed full on a Tuesday evening with cars overflowed to the lot behind the tavern, the popularity of this place showed. With a party of 4, we were told it would take about 45mins to an hour wait. There seemed to be a few names listed before us, and within half an hour the list became even longer. Perusing the menu and beer list, we already knew what we wanted. I noticed more than half the people at the bar and at the tables holding a birthday cup in hand (it says I got Nail'd on my birthday at my favorite neighborhood tavern) while munching on incredibly juicy, large, crispy, and good lookin' fried wings. At that point in time, I was looking forward to getting seated ASAP to fill my chicken wing desires. I heard from multiple coworkers they like to celebrate their birthday here because for each year of life you get a free wing. Well cheers to my party because we had enough wings to share amongst us and washed them down happily with beers. We were told that the birthday person with valid photo ID would be entitled to all the free wings up to his/her age as long as they can finish, and also a birthday drink. A few rules applied: - Birthday person must come in on actual birth date for the free wings offer. - Birthday person and party will receive wings in batches to make sure nothing goes unfinished. - Up to 2 flavors can be chosen per batch of wings, feel free to mix it up - 18% gratuity is automatically added on total bill - Birthday beer cup is for birthday person to take home as gift BUT...we weren't made aware that the birthday beer cost $9.95 until the check came, while the rest of our party's drinky drinks cost the typical $5-6 each. When asked, we were informed that the birthday cup includes a free refill. Oops, too late. That was sort of a bummer...but I digress. Those wings were incredibly large, juicy, and hot! I could see the smoke coming out of each bite I took off the wing and smelled it's fried goodness! We chose medium buffalo and honey garlic in our 1st batch then garlic parm and Thai chili in our 2nd. The honey garlic and Thai chili were our favorites. To each of its own, I tend to favor crispy outsides with a good amount of sauce and moist insides. Luckily my party had people who liked drummettes more than flats....because I am more of a flats kinda girl. To sum it up, the evening was fun and well worth the wait.
