On Saturday night we went to Rusty Spur at 5:30 pm to ensure we were able to get a table. We were sitting at our table for about an hour when a Spur employee came to our table with a reservation sign and said we need to move by 8pm. There were no empty tables to move to. I've come here for many years, it's my first destination when I arrive in Scottsdale for some spring baseball and winter thaw out. This last trip it was as good or better than ever, real country music played by - well, real country musicians, super nice wait staff and bartenders and just a fun, happy crowd every time. Yes, the buffalo head (bison?) is still on the wall. Didn't eat but the burgers looked great, we were there 2-3 afternoons in a row and met new people we talked and had fun with every time. But it does get packed so, have a backup plan or be willing to wait outside. We found our backup bar just around the corner, no food, booze only (so no children!) - Porters - great drinks, bar and table seating though it's not very big. read more

The location of the Rusty Spur couldn't be more perfect. It's in the center of Old Town Scottsdale. The place is small, quaint and very western. The decor is fabulous. It looks and feels like a real saloon even down to a couple of the bar stools. We were waited on immediately. The food was good and the server attentive in the beginning but as the crowds started rolling in we virtually lost our server. We finally had to go to the bar to pay it. As I mentioned the place is small and gets packed. It's hard to hear at your own table when others are trying as hard as they might to be heard by the groups at their own table. People end up trying to talk over the top of each other. Thus, noisy. Been there, done that and probably won't go back. read more

This place was a "must stop here", as some friends had been years before. It was relatively small inside, and very dark. The three ladies behind the bar were friendly, and kind of gave off a Coyote Ugly vibe. Despite it being the middle of the afternoon, they had a singer/guitarist on stage. He did covers, and was somewhat better than average. Aside from it being dimly lit inside (which kind of gave off a "greasy spoon restaurant" vibe), the other thing that I'll remember is how NOBODY seemed to care about COVID. There was no distancing of any kind, and you can almost see it the germs hanging in the air. If you're good with that, then head into the Rusty Spur for a drink! read more

Crawling with COVID and deplorables, won't be spending money here again. Staff was rude, musicians wouldn't play without a tip (lousy at best) and food was typical frozen crud. If you like coughing and yelling this place is for you. read more

Small bar that a friend from Scottsdale recommended. My brother was visiting from LA. We stopped by to catch the end of the Bills game. It was crowded and the two doorman asked us to come back in an hour. We did. We still were not welcomed in. However there was a group of 4 white women that entered within seconds of us walking away. Joannah on Tuesday was quite entertaining so I appreciated seeing her before my trip home. Two guys on Monday 7/8 though were good but shorter guy made a comment saying, "I came from San Diego for this?"... think he said San Diego. I almost yelled out, "I came from New York for this?" but refrained. I ended up tipping a few dollars after a few songs and same guy said, "Thanks sweetheart." All in all it's a good place to catch live music and both nights I didn't drink anything there. So it's nice they don't push having to purchase something in order to hang out. read more

Scottsdale's Last Real Cowboy Saloon... I totally thought I'd reviewed Rusty Spur before as I've been more times than I can count. I'll agree with most of the positive reviews already written about this place - it's laid back, un-pretentious, hole-in-the-wall, and fun! I'm not a huge country music fan either, but when I come to Rusty Spur, I love it! You can't help but smile and have a great time at this place! If I don't start out here at Happy Hour, I end the night here whenever I'm out in Old Town. I'm left with a souvenir tank top that Jared bought me in his drunken state the other night when we were hanging at the Spur. So I go and have a great time listening to the band and having a few drinks. Left my credit card which sometimes happens. I call the day after and ask if it's there and the answer is yes. So I arrange for a friend to pick it up on his way back to the hotel before we leave for the airport. Then I call them back and try to tell them someone's coming to get it for me. The jerk who answers the phone says, "yeah you already called, have them ask for your card" then hangs up on me. My friend shows up and they refuse to give him the card. Now I'm flying home without it. People like this should never work in a service business. Bad service is like a disease. Once you have it it's very hard to get rid of and it permeates everything.
