My daughter and I are checking out new taco places on a regular basis to break her out of the cycle of taco bell. She fell in love with Chipotle but has felt like she needed to broaden her horizon. Rusty Taco was the place that was close by. The staff on duty was very accommodating. They were patient with me as I was ordering for multiple people. To make it easy for myself and try new things, I ordered the same thing my wife ordered. We had two Texicans, two briskets, and two picadollos. My daughter was very simple and only wanted me cheese and lettuce. I got her fajita chicken, one brisket, and one pork. I also got chips and salsa and chips and queso. The chips were fresh, but unseason. The salsa was average, but not chunky. The queso was very good. My daughter smashed all three tacos without hesitation. I was very appreciative that they put the kids tacos on flour tortillas. After getting home and opening my first tortilla and saw that it was corn I was definitely concerned that they may do the same thing to her. She prefers flour tortillas. So do i, but I can always make do. All in all, they got us in and out quickly and it was a nice change in pace. I will have to be back to check out some of the other tacos on the menu. read more

This place is an extremely sorry excuse for a taco restaurant, I've been coming here since it opened in 2012 and never had the displeasure of interacting with the owner/manager Joe, that is until today, I was treated like a second class citizen, I was approached by him near the drinks, accused of THROWING things as if I am a 7 year old, and then he proceeded to snatch my cup out of my hand and throw it in the trash. I don't know if he assumed I was a high schooler or what...even if he did that doesn't excuse his behavior. I'm an adult woman who was talked down on by someone clearly on a power trip. Not to mention that the food was dry, stale, and most definitely gone bad, please don't come here unless you would like to be yelled at as if you were a dog. The corn tortillas here are delish! I was surprised by how authentic the first taco on the menu tasted. Loved the chorizo cheese taco as well, and the queso and chips while the queso was warm was really tasty. The shrimp was cooked and seasoned extremely well in the Baja shrimp taco. I was very pleasantly surprised by everything I tried here. I love salsa verde with my tacos, and the one here is pretty mild (which I liked). This was one of my favorite places in the past, however, too many bad experiences lately. They have messed up three out of five of my last food orders. Usually it wasn't a huge deal because I was dining in and could quickly get them to correct their mistakes. Yesterday I ordered carry out and didn't check my order to make sure they didn't make another mistake. Well when I fought through the traffic to get home and place the food in front of my family.... well it was someone else's food. It wasn't even close to anything I was wanting. By this time I was really Hangry! I called them and was told to wait 2 minutes on hold. Then the employee said I took the wrong order and my tacos were waiting for me. In my mind they gave me the wrong order and there was no way I was going to drive 15 minutes to get old tacos. I will be avoiding this place for quite a while. read more

This is by far my favorite taco place in the area. Every time I come in here, the owner is almost always here and he is such a good host! I just found out that I have a gluten allergy so I can't have my beloved shrimp tacos (the shrimp is fried). But they were so good about helping me find something I could eat and be happy with. First visit to this chain and we've definitely had better. The one major positive was the level of service and attentiveness from the staff-very inviting and welcoming! I honestly wish I could've said the same for the food! We tried the Brisket, Baja Shrimp, Fried Chicken, Beef Fajita, and Fish tacos...the Baja Shrimp tacos far exceeded the rest in taste and quality. I go out to eat quite a bit, however I focus on posting the negative reviews because service should be awesome any where u go. Living in TX, there are so many choices so u would think that service would be great but not all the time which leads me to this review. If u live in Frisco, Mckinney, Allen or within 50 mile radius u must know that there are so many taco joints to choose from and you may not have to remind them to clean the table or have to fight off flies every few seconds or deal with them having a nasty attitude. We visited on a Saturday night and it busy at all. We had multiple tacos and our favorite were the shrimp grilled and the fajita. The others were mediocre. Although it doesn't impact the taste of the food, but we did notice that drink area was not very clean and organized. The first time I was here, a manager accused me of not paying for chips and salsa. When I informed him I had paid, he lectured me on trying to pull a fast one on the business and that he would let it slide this one time. After serving me, the manager came back to inform me about the error. Apparently, the slip that records the orders broke and had not fully printed my order. Ever since moving to the 'burbs from Lakewood, I've had a void in my life from having no close access to Taco Joint. Rusty Taco doesn't quite fill that void, but it's definitely good enough to add to the regular rotation. The only thing that makes me sad is that they don't serve their regular menu until after 11 a.m. Their breakfast tacos are great (and served all day), but you can only have so many combinations of egg + cheese + [insert protein here] before it gets boring. So after arriving here around 10:30 on a Sunday, hubs and I ordered two breakfast tacos each and one for the toddler, then got BACK in line to get the real deal when 11 a.m. rolled around. Not the most convenient way to order, but the baja shrimp tacos were worth the wait. Speaking of the baja shrimp tacos...YUM. Nice, lightly breaded little shrimp with red cabbage, cilantro, and the perfect amount of sauce with just the right amount of kick. I would order that again. The breakfast tacos were pretty standard, but tasty. Not too greasy, which was nice. I wouldn't do the jalapeno sausage ones again because the sausage was too small (har har). You can't go wrong with bacon & egg, although the 3 bacon & egg tacos we ordered differed in bacon amounts. And speaking of cheap, these tacos are priced right for the size at a little over $2 a pop. Not Taco Bell cheap, but also far superior to Taco Bell quality. Finally, the margarita. Big and strong enough, but made in an industrial margarita machine and tasted like it. Not bad for $5 though. My first impression was the bathroom, which was an unfortunate experience. It smelled soggy and damp, and the soap dispenser was broken off the wall. It laid awkwardly on top of the paper towel dispenser, like a sad puppy. I didn't feel sanitary eating with my hands after washing my hands there. I ordered the fried shrimp and chicken tacos, which were just okay. They weren't memorable, nor were the guacamole and queso. The queso tasted like it came out of a can and was already beginning to coagulate in the cup when we placed it on our tables. I'm a fan of Chipotle's guac, and this didn't even come close. Now the cashier was super cool and allowed us to get a half order of guac and queso to try (paid 1 full serving of queso), so I did appreciate that. She was also very upbeat and helpful. However, I would still drive to torchy's next time I crave tacos, even if it's another 15 min away. read more

I am quite easy to please when it comes to taco places, but for some reason, this one just didn't do it for me. I ordered the pork taco, baja shrimp taco, chips and queso, and a Dr Pepper to go. I live just a few minutes away, and by the time I got home, the pork taco was soggy. I ate it, anyway, but it seemed to lack seasoning. Also, I wasn't a fan of the baja sauce that came on the shrimp taco. The queso was a bit bland, and the Dr Pepper even seemed off. Perhaps it was just a bad day at Rusty Taco? I've gone to Rusty Taco twice since moving nearby. The first time I ordered a fried fish taco, shrimp taco and a margarita. I remember being very disappointed with the margarita. I wasn't too thrilled with the fried fish taco either. Today I picked up a grilled fish taco, shrimp taco and a fried peach taco for dessert to go. I was equally unimpressed with the grilled fish taco as I was the fried. I will definitely be skipping all things fish here in the future. The shrimp taco, however, is excellent!! If I absolutely must have a dessert, I will go elsewhere as the fried peach taco was too sweet and got old after a couple of bites. I will try the brisket taco next time. For $2.50 a taco, I'll keep trying until I find the perfect combo. read more

Good tacos lousy seating. The food: I've tried the Brisket Taco, Fish Taco, Roasted Pork Taco, and Rusty Taco. To me Rusty Taco is better than Fuzzy's Taco Shop but nearly as good as Torchy's Tacos. The Service: The service and management were great considering how busy they were. Friendly and prompt. The dining experience: Terrible! Place was clean - roomy enough and there's outdoor seating. FOOD: Nom Nom! The tacos were good! I ordered the Shrimp, Fried Chicken, and the Rusty Tacos. The tacos are served on about 6-inch tortillas but they pack those things. All the sauces available are great. They have many options - I hear their breakfast tacos are good too! Simple, fresh, fast, and cheap. Rusty Taco has become a fast favorite for lunch. The tacos range from about 6 or so "breakfast" options (available all day, yea!) to a dozen (or so) ranging from steak, pork, chicken, fish (yum!) - all in the $2-3 range - and chips and salsa for $1. They have a few beers, bottled sodas, and regular fountain drinks. Fast service, friendly counter help. Agree with others that it gets crazy busy (but still very fast). The seating is odd (long tables) but quirky. Outdoor seating plus roll up windows (think garage door style) make it perfect for the fall/spring casual lunch (or dinner, or breakfast) out. read more

Okay - I'm sorry - I really WANT to love this place, but I don't. I mean, the place is cool... the owner seems like a great guy... and the employees seem okay, too, but the food - I'm not impressed. But I assumed everything was cold because they originally made my order and placed it on a tray instead of bagging it "to go". So I assumed the time they spent to take it from the tray, bag it, etc. it got cold. (This was like a ten minute process because I went during the lunch crowd and it was busy in there) As far as why it was dry - I just assumed it was a one time situation. I went again recently. 4 different tacos (Brisket, BBQ, Fried Chicken and the "Rusty")... all were dry except the "Rusty" taco. And when I say dry I mean D*R*Y. I had to load the suckers up with Mild sauce to get 'em to go down. And overall they just lacked flavoring to me. Also, the corn tortilla is definitely NOT my thing - apparently you can request flour, but I didn't know that and had to suffer through the corn tortilla. I HIGHLY recommend KorBQ Taco's near Willow Bend Mall area... I could eat those tacos every day... MUCH better flavor profile (for my tastebuds, at least)... better quality, etc. And I'm seeing in the reviews for Rusty's that the food is "loaded up" - maybe I just got a bad batch of 4 tacos b/c mine definitely weren't loaded. One of my top 5 favorite restaurants in Plano!!! I have been here countless times and never had anything less than awesome. Their queso is fresh, spicy and plentiful, the margaritas are cheap and strong, and every single taco is delicious. What more do you need?? We eat here all the time because it is fast and cheap, but never skimps on the taste. Their breakfast tacos are also amazing, I don't think they make anything bad! What is not to love at $2 tacos?! I mean really? We ate here the first time for breakfast which is actually my Rusty Taco preference. I realize it is just eggs, bacon and a tortilla but they do an excellent job of making those 3 simple ingredients- AMAZING! (The eggs and potato taco is also delicious) I ordered 2 breakfast tacos since it was my first time there but 1 is plenty to fill you up. 2nd time at Rusty's for for lunch. I can't remember what we had since my friends and I pretty much ordered one of everything just to try them all. They were all good- I think my favorite was the "fried chicken" taco. Usually you hear "you get what you pay for" but at Rusty Taco you get ALOT more than you pay for. I can't wait to go back...! read more

At this moment in time, this is THEEEE best taco place I've been to in Dallas. I might even venture to say, EVER. Everything a taco should be. Ingredients were fresh and plentiful... I'm talkin, packed, it had so much flavor that I didn't know what to do with myself, and it was dirt cheap! Around 12:30pm on a Friday, there was a line to the door. It moves very quickly and you pay at the register. It's a fairly straight forward menu with enough options to suit your mood from all-day breakfast fillings like bacon, jalapeno sausage, egg, cheese, to fajita tacos, different types of pork, etc. I got one fried chicken taco, one grilled fish taco, and one brisket, egg, and cheese taco. I got two on a flour tortilla and the fish one on corn. I like that they wrap the contents with one tortilla. The corn tortilla is slightly grilled to give it some oomph to hold all that amazing filling. Fried chicken taco is a pretty big slice off of a fried chicken breast with a bunch of great filings and sauce. It hurt so good eating that thing. The grilled fish taco had a smoky flavor that was right on the money, and the brisket, egg, and cheese taco was just self-explanatory deliciousness. There are various salsa squeeze bottles to take to your table - oh, and dining is community style, aka, lots of large tables inside and outside to share with people who had the same brilliant idea as you to come here for lunch. Each taco is around $2.10-ish. Can you believe it?! And they're full sized tacos, not mini. And they're filled with a lot of meat. Andddd, they're quick. I don't think it even took 5 minutes. You can see the front part of the kitchen where the line cooks assemble the tacos to order. This place is in between work and home. I hope my arteries didn't hear that. read more

So many tacos to pick from!!! Our family enjoys the breakfast tacos: Bacon, Brisket and Fajita Steak all with egg and cheese! We also love coming for lunch and dinner. My husband goes for the brisket tacos - I like the veggie and the shrimp. Our kids like the basic ground beef taco and they will make quesadillas for kids too. There is something for everyone. We called in a large order for brunch once and they had everything labeled and ready to go when I got there to pick it up. They have a fun ambiance inside and they also have some outside seating.
