Just had a very satisfying experience at Ruthies! I ordered the Jerk Shrimp and the Lady Of The Manor ordered the Salmon. Both came with red beans & rice and our choice of sides, mac n' cheese and plantains. Tasty, tasty, tasty! We are definitely coming back! Absolutely delicious Caribbean Food! I had the Jerk Chicken Wings, which were perfectly seasoned and a little spicy with rice and plantains. I went to Ruthies with my daughter. I got the beef stew. It came with rice and a side of sweet potatoes. The stew was excellent and hot. The rice and potatoes were only warm. I'll go back again but I really like my meals to be hot. read more

I've never had Carribean food before, I was visiting a friend in Vallejo and we both decided to give it a try. The food was superb we both ordered Oxtails and all I can say is YUMMY! The spices were on point and I decided to put in a extra order to take home becuase it was just that good. Had a wonderful dinner tonight. The staff was friendly and so helpful. The food was delicious. Roti with goat was so good I'm giving up on burritos and just eating roti. The goat was tender and flavorful. The rib-let platter was sweet sticky and yummy. Mac n cheese flavorful. Jerk shrimp platter was tasty. Scallop potato side was so comforting. Our family is looking forward to going back and bringing friends. This place is soooo good!!! I got the jerk chicken and my husband got the curry goat. Oh and their hot sauce is awesome! If they bottled it I would buy it haha. The owner is really sweet and the chef even came out to make sure we liked the food. read more

I was told food would be ready in 25 min, upon arrival I was told 15 more minutes, However food wasnt ready for one and half hours of total wait time. After acknowledging me when I entered the restaurant and taking my payment and telling me 15 more minutes he didn't update or look in my direction (in a 5 by 10 foot restaurant) for thr next hour...crazy...took a bite of food and the oxtails are not tender but hella chewy..sides are decent...smh... read more

We had a really nice meal and juice drink. I had the chicken roti with red beans and rice and scalloped potatoes. My friend had the jerk wings and same sides. Had lunch here w/ five people. We didn't receive our lunch until 50 minutes later after we arrived. The menu prices were misleading. We ordered the fish cakes, and there was no fish, it was all batter. The macaroni and cheese was flavorless. The owner of the restaurant didn't even acknowledge our disappointment. Very upsetting to spend that type of money on lunch, but receive horrible service. read more

I was proud to patronize a black-owned business and also excited to taste some good Caribbean food. I ordered the curry goat, vegetables, red beans & rice to go. I wish I could say the meal was enjoyable but it wasn't. First of all, I live less than 5 minutes from this place and when I arrived home the food was room temperature at best. The beans and rice were hard and dry, no juice or gravy. There was no curry flavor on the goat at all. The portion of meat was small and it didn't taste like it was freshly made. The only good thing I had was the gingerade drink. While the service was good. There was another customer who was having a problem with his order. He asked to speak to the cook who came out and spoke to him. His question was what he needed to do next time to get the fish dish he wanted. She said that he needed to call a day before so she could thaw out the fish in time to prepare the next day. Why was this dish on the daily menu if it couldn't be prepared in a timely manner? I wish I could get this restaurant a better rating but, I can't because they don't deserve it. Hopefully, they will improve and I can change it !!! read more

DEPLORABLE. I've eaten here twice because I wanted to help support local black businesses. But this place is deplorable. They don't give you good enough portions to make you full. The plantains were burned and they only gave me very tiny ones, what a joke! Also they short you on the meat too. The stewed chicken is cut up a lot to make it look like it's a lot when it's mostly fat and bones. Also the oxtails, they give you one and cut that up too to play it off like it's a lot. And the rice and beans OMG DISRESPECTFUL, unseasoned, and canned. I don't appreciate any of that, I feel shorted and I will definitely not eat from here again. And if you are wise you wouldn't too until they GET IT TOGETHER. read more

First time trying Caribbean food. I like the flavors. It smelled really good when we got the delivery via Door Dash. Had the security guards wondering where we ordered. Jerk shrimp was really good. We really wanted to try the jerk chicken but I guess they were out. If our ordered wasn't messed up - I would have given 5 stars. So I called to order my food for pick up. I ordered ribs and 2 sides which were beans and rice and sweet potatoes. The woman on the phone takes the order and says it's a 25 minute wait. I waited about 15 minutes knowing it would take about 10 to get there. Arriving on time I still walked in expected to maybe wait 2 or 3 minutes. No I sat there for 15 minutes before I was told the sweet potatoes would not be ready. I wanted to ask the host about the wait but she continued answering phones and serving other customers that had arrived a while after me. I would say I waited a good 30 minutes on top of the 25 they said it would take. The food is very good. But service and timing is terrible. I was late for work and not once did I get an apology for the long wait. I liked the food but I wouldn't recommend and won't be going back for a second time. read more

5 stars for service but 3 for the food. The plaintains taste great! They're to die for. The jerk chicken was pretty good and so was the curried goat. The red beans and rice weren't so good. They actually taste better at Popeyes. The oxtails were cooked perfectly yet the gravy lacked flavor. It tasted like they for got to season the gravy that day. Six of us tried this special place for the first time. The atmosphere was trendy and clean. It is a cute intimate place that seats about 20+ people plus the bar. James, who is a friend of Ruthie's was our server and is a delightful person. I ordered the grilled and glazed salmon with salad and rice and beans. My partner had the short ribs and grilled vegetables. Our friends had goat and ribs. I have to say that the flavors of the food are great. My salmon and a taste of grilled vegetables is a go to for me. Ruthie is a delightful loving women from St. Lucia and brings that genuine cooking to her place. All in all the atmosphere, people, service, and food quality are great. We will be bringing our friends back soon. Vallejo needs more quality places like Ruthies that server great food with a lot of love. Next time I am going to have jerk chicken and those wonderful grilled veggies. They do not seem to care for the orders through door dash and make the orders late as well as making the delivery driver waist time. I do not recommend this place to any one. read more

Driving down Sonoma my family and I noticed a new Caribbean restaurant, we were so excited we immediately pulled over to check it out. As soon as I stepped in the door I knew we'd love it! Reggae was playing and the atmosphere was super homey. My husband is from Dominica so we weren't sure if the food would be up to his expectations but it totally was! The juice selection is great! Just like home! I had the jerk chicken with plantains and it was delicious!! I am so excited to see a place like this in Vallejo. I hope they stick around for years to come! So I'll start by saying I love small businesses. I feel it's important to support. I'm happy this restaurant is around because Vallejo is lacking in the food department in my opinion. The decor was cute. I ordered the oxtails, plantains, and rice and peas. I think the food was pretty good. I don't think they use salt in their food so it's not as flavorful as I'd hoped. Ruthie's Carribean Kitchen is just what Vallejo needed! This place is the real deal. I've had their curry goat and the oxtails and both were flavorful and tender. The jerk chicken wings were seasoned to perfection and the grilled salmon was delicious as well, crispy on the outside yet still moist on the inside. The prices for each plate we're super reasonable and included 2 sides. They also have a selection of fresh juices like tamarind, sorrel and gingerade.
