This is the location in east Menlo Park. It's a very small place that most people take it to go. There's a few nice outdoor tables. I thought the jerk salmon was the best over the jerk pork. Everything tasted good but kind of salty. It was not overly spicy at all. I would come back again.

I absolutely love this place! Their fried plantains are so yummy, and the chicken and rice are seasoned so well and the sauce is the perfect cherry on top. They give a lot of food and one definitely plate enough to keep me full with some leftovers. Parking could be a bit hard to find and the seating is always taken up, so you may have to wait to eat inside.

One of my go to spots for Caribbean food and I usually go with the oxtails and jerk chicken combo meal with the mouth watering Mac and cheese you want be disappointed.

Solid spot for Caribbean takeout, perfect for a work lunch meal. I usually get the jerk pork plate which comes with rice, beans, and plantains. Pork was a little dry today but could just be an off day. Overall solid spot and flavors.

Tucked away on an unassuming corner in Menlo Park, Back A Yard stands out as one of the Bay Area's most beloved Caribbean spots. With generous portions and a friendly neighborhood vibe, there is no better place to try a plate of perfectly spiced jerk chicken, tender oxtail, and hearty servings of rice and beans, all complemented by sweet, caramelized plantains. Pair your meal with one of their refreshing house-made drinks, and you've got a taste of the islands without ever leaving the Peninsula.

I wanted to give this place 5 stars but this is the second time I didn't get my drink to go and everytime I forget to come back to get it. It's always the short Mexican guy. He is nice but seems to always forget to. Ask me for sauce for my orders and definitely forgets my drinks and I only remember when I go to look for my drinks to eat with my to go meals ! So frustrating as I do not live in area. The younger white girl was rude af when asking for more than one sauce with your meals. Literally saw her give 5 jerk sauces to a sista and some customers before my son asked for 2! But unlike the Mexican guy she at least upsells and offers other menus and asked you for sauces when picking up your meal. The other lady is on point all the time. Maybe that's why she is the manager. She is nice always, doesn't forget orders and delivers customer service.

Everything and I mean EVERYTHING was a hit. Herbaceous, spicy, citrusy, savory, sweet, the Jerk marinade was so spot on I was shocked. Jerk Salmon flaky, tender, flavorful. Jerk oxtail, bursting with flavor, tender, but not completely fall off the bone, still had a bite to it. The plantains were sweet, soft, and beautifully caramelized on the outside. Red beans and rice were perfectly cooked fluffy, and mixed with that sauce. This meal is to die for it was so good. Corn bread we had on the side too was good! And the drink in the photo is a guava pineapple. Absolute bangers all around. Go check them out!

DELISHHHHHHH. There's not that many carribbean food spots in my hometown so when I was trying to figure out where I should eat during my trip in Menlo Park and saw this place, I knew I had to try it. Came here on a Tuesday Afternoon around 3:30pm. We ordered and our food came out super quick!! The interior is no frills, there's 3 tables inside and a few outside. I think people mostly get plates to go! Got the Yard Combo with jerk salmon and jerk pork (5/5): So freaking good. The salon was moist and the pork was cooked so well, the seasoning on both were *chef's kiss*. The rice & beans and fried plantains were such great sides. I would definitely come here again and try their other dishes!

I wasn't really expecting much when we arrived at this place... plain furniture, simple but cute wall decor in a not fancy location, they have a couple of indoor and outdoor tables but most customers gets their food to-go. If you're one like me who does not really want to pay for ambiance... and recognizes good food regardless of location... this is the place to-go. Straighforward menu... I got the jerk pork and oxtail. Pork was smokey... it smelled so good. Oxtail was very tender and juicy. The order came with rice and beans. I am really not a fan of beans so I am glad my rice had barely beans on it. Staff were polite and service was okay, we did not wait long for our orders to come out. Would definitely go back here.

Got the oxtail plate and they gave me 1 little piece of oxtail mixed with some gravy and bones for $20 this is not ok.

Got the oxtail plate with double rice and they gave me 1 piece of oxtail with gravy and bones this is absolutely not acceptable and bad business.

Is this affiliated with Coconuts in Palo Alto?

    Yes it's their sister restaurant

Are the beans cooked in pork?

    No! They are vegan!

Do you still have codfish and ackee on Saturday?

    Yes!

    Time for food ready?

20 to 30 mins for it to be prepared!!

Are they serving their curry oxtail or goat specials during the pandemic and if so, what days?

We were down to Willow St this Tuesday 2/23/21 and picked up a menu. No oxtail specials any day. There is a coconut curried shrimp with veggies $13.95 on thursday.… Read more

Are they open for outdoor dining now?

    Nope! Just take out!

How spicy/hot are the dishes, and which are hotter or milder - like Jerk Chicken vs BBQ Chicken?

The Jerk Chicken is medium/mild spicy. They also give you sauce on the side if you want to kick it up a notch. I would not consider the BBQ chicken to be spicy.

    Do they take reservations?

No. It's a small place and you order at the counter, but being a small business, they might make exceptions for large groups.

Do the plates not come with a small side salad like they used to? I miss it.

No, they got rid of that

Definitely worth getting the umami fries as they were seasoned to perfection. A perfect starting side! Horsefeather is a perfect brunch spot to stop by and try in this Old Town and Country Palo Alto plaza. I have never heard of this chain nor in their other locations before and was definitely satisfied afterwards with their great dishes and their aesthetically modern decorated interior. The dishes here are American so you'd get what you typically get for breakfast from scrambles to French Toast, and we ordered the French Toast, the Chicken and Waffles, and a Salad during our visit here. All of what was ordered was perfect and beautifully plated upon arrival and out of all that was ordered, I have to say the chicken and waffles with their matcha butter & syrup was their standout dish. I have never seen matcha infused with butter but it was perfect and complimented the waffle just right. The chicken was fried and juicy inside and the waffle in general was toasted with just the right amount of crisp on the outside and soft interior. French Toast was a definite close contender too, where the toast was still gooey soft as expected and served with syrup & cream on the side. Salad was good but nothing too extraordinary about it. The staff here were all very nice and on a busy lunch day, I was surprised & pretty sure just lucky was able to get a table in less than 10 min on a Sunday. For weekend brunch, Horsefeather is a perfect spot to visit & enjoy the pre-afternoon before enjoying Palo Alto. I would highly recommend checking this place out and will definitely be back for more.

Our favorites were the kimchi deviled eggs, the miso linguini pasta, and the yuzu dessert. One thing I did notice was the seating arrangement. I had seen another Yelp review mentioning that they were seated right next to another party despite the restaurant being mostly empty, and we had a similar experience. Even with plenty of open tables, we were seated directly beside another group, making it easy to hear each other's conversations. It wasn't a huge issue, but a little more spacing would have made the dining experience feel more comfortable. Overall, the food and service were great.

I agree with many of the other reviews that the service and overall dining experience do not justify the premium price. While the food was good, nothing truly stood out or impressed me considering the cost. At this price point, I expected a more refined and memorable experience. Although I was dining at a high-end restaurant, I never felt like I was being treated as if I were. The rushed pace meant we finished our entire meal in about an hour, which is not the relaxed fine dining experience I was expecting.

The host received us warmly, but things slipped from there. Our table was missing cutlery and we had to flag our server down to get it sorted. We asked for a minute to look over the menu since it was our first visit. He did not come back for five minutes, and only because we flagged him down again. When we ordered, he took our request without making eye contact, attention clearly elsewhere in the restaurant. One dish came out. The second did not. Our server never circled back to check on us, and seemingly did not notice that one of us had no food in front of her. After nearly ten minutes, we flagged him down again. He called over from across the restaurant, not walking to us, with a "what?" We had to gesture that my guest still had no food. He came over briefly, confirmed our order, said it was coming soon, and left. No apology. No acknowledgment of the wait. No offer to make it right while one plate sat getting cold. The food eventually came, again with no apology. It was good. But by then, honestly, the experience had overshadowed it. We asked for a manager. Cathy came over, listened, and immediately apologized. She agreed the service fell short, gave us a break on the bill, and handled the situation with real grace. She is the reason this review has any stars at all! For reference, our server's name on the receipt read Mui F. I hope Cathy's conversation with him makes a difference, because Sweet Maple clearly has the food to back up its reputation. The service just needs to match it!

After checking in, we were informed that the entire party had to be present before we could be seated. While waiting, I ordered a drink at the bar and enjoyed the beautiful rooftop terrace. The deep cushioned seating, combined with views of Stanford University, the Woodside hills, and the surrounding skyline, created a memorable setting for a special occasion. The dining room is airy, elegant, and thoughtfully designed. The glass roof allows plenty of natural light without the harsh glare, making the space comfortable and inviting. The menu is fairly straightforward and not particularly unique, though prices are definitely premium. Sandwiches range from about $24 to $58, and the mini lobster or crab rolls are $20 each. For our group of five, we ordered three lobster rolls, lamb chops, two Caesar salads, two orders of oysters, honey-glazed salmon, sweet potatoes, truffle fries, a gem salad, and several drinks and glasses of wine. Unfortunately, neither the kitchen nor the table service lived up to expectations. Our starters arrived, followed by most of the entrees, but the kitchen completely forgot both Caesar salads. We asked about them twice. By the time they finally arrived, the salads were soggy and lacked the freshness you would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. RH Rooftop delivers a stunning setting and is an undeniably beautiful place for a celebration. However, for a restaurant positioned as a luxury dining experience, I expected the food and service to match the spectacular surroundings. While everything looked impressive, the meal itself felt average and the service lacked the attention to detail expected at this price point. In the end, I left feeling that I had paid for the atmosphere rather than the dining experience.

When we ordered 2 cowboy rib eye, 1 NY steak, 1 porterhouse- he asked us if we were sharing and of course we were - he offered to bring it in on a big tray which was excellent! The steaks were perfectly done! The sides were had cesar salad, the twice baked baked potato, the mixed vegetables were all excellent! The appetizers- bread basket, mushrooms and octopus were also 10/10.. Our dessert-the Pistachio Cheesecake is the best! We are so happy to be at this place! Everyone was checking on us, making sure our drinks were poured, that we were okay and if we needed anything else! Better than the highly rated steak houses..This will always be our go to Steak house on our special family occasions.. By the way our drinks were also the best! The cucumber spritzer, the watermelon, the soju and the mixed Crown Royal with Canadian whiskey.. Thank you for taking care of us so well..

Unfortunately our…read more90 minutes drive was for the tomahawk, even though they have tomahawk but they can't cook it as a whole, they can cook it cut in pieces. I understand people may be ok with that, but not for me. They said they can cook it but will be 35 to 40 minutes and we said that is perfectly fine and understood. But 20 minutes in, the Chef came in gracefully to share that he can't cook it, and he will bring it now, and if we slice it and don't like it, he can then cook the slices. Me and my son thought that we should be able to eat it, even if it was a bit on the rare side, and we did. It wasn't the perfect situation for us, which is the 3 stars, but it wasn't bad. Moral of the story, if you like your tomahawk cooked in one piece, this is not the place for you. For me if it is slices, then it is no longer tomahawk but rather sliced steaks and that's not why I am here. Will we go there again? Most probably, but 100% not for tomahawk.
