We live in the Bay Area and have needed short and medium length boarding stays several times over the last year. We were introduced to Ry by a mutual friend who boards her dog with Ry. We have had incredibly positive experiences. Firstly the pick up and drop off is super easy and simple, and we coordinate via text. Secondly, and perhaps most important, our doggie LOVES being there. We have had other boarding experiences where it was clear that things were not great. But Ry and his team really love dogs -- and the dogs love them back. Thirdly we get regular photo updates which are hugely helpful in keeping us posted on the doggie state of play. Fourthly our doggie (and all the doggies!) get loads of walks and play -- she is full of beans and she probably gets more of what she needs by way of exercise with Ry than she does when with us! Bottom line is that we are very, very happy -- we now always board our dog with Ry when we have to be away. read more

He came over to help me review my beginning process of having a new puppy in my house and some of the to do's I needed to take care of. We talked about potty training, sleeping and feeding schedules. Ry and his team are absolutely amazing. Our dog, Grace, has been going out with his pack for 3 year and loves it!!!! When she hears the van, she races to the door and then races up the stairs to jump in the van. She comes home happy and tired. They pick up around 8 am and drop off around 1 or 2 and she goes out with a pack of 10 dogs and they all love it! We get amazing photos. I honestly don't know how they do it. Our dog is happier, calmer, better behaved and better around other dogs since she started going out with Ry's team. I really can't recommend highly enough. Also, they are super reliable and great with communication about when they are picking up and dropping off. They make everything easy. They also do boarding including pickup and drop off and again, Grace comes home happy and tired and we get amazing photos. Our beloved Bootsie has a second family with Ry and his team, and while its hard to part with her when we go out of town, I am fully at ease and relieved to know she will be with Ry and his pack. We have been sending our GSD dog to Ry for daycare and boarding since he was a puppy. I can say that thanks to Ry, Snowy grows up well socialized and exercised weekly and he looks forward to his daycare pick up every week. We are also able to go on vacations knowing our pup is well cared for and safe. Ry's boarding service is excellent for large breeds thanks to his experienced and strong handlers. The dogs large or small play and go on long pack walks and get along very well. I see there were several lower rated reviews mainly related to communication. Ry is a dog whisper, and based on our experience, he enjoys K9 companions over human interaction. And we all know managing many clients means managing many personalities and expectations. There were a few months last year when communication was not smooth as he was changing assistant and setting up a new system to help streamline communication and billing. We like the new assistant and the new system. Now the communication is very prompt and smooth and well organized via the app. I feel the past communication issues have been address now and will continue to improve in the future. oh and we love our pup's handler Kevin! Ry the pet guy has been so good---according to my dog. Bunji was hesitant at first to be picked up and crated for the travel to Ry's estate. But the driver was courteous and encouraging. When Bunji arrived home after her first visit, she couldn't stop talking about all the friends she met and played with. Being part Siberian Husky, Bunji talks a lot. By the third visit, Bunji lunged to the van when it arrived to pick her up, with tail wagging and voice yelping. She loves the driver, Roberto, the manager Gustavo, and Ry himself whom Bunji describes as a devout and gentle Buddhist. I'm so surprised to see any negative reviews here. Our dog, Sealy is a little reserved and hates crates. When Ry or one of his helpers shows up, she leaps into the van and happily gets in her crate. I was referred to Ryland by some friends that had utilized his dog sitting/dog walking services. I dragged my feet setting up an appointment since I needed help socializing my dog-aggressive 3 yr old Malinois and because we had already spent a ton working with another trainer. I definitely regret not having reached out sooner. Ryland was super accommodating with our schedule and even had his lovely mother help watch my 4 yr old so I could focus on our session. To put this in context, Charlie will literally lunge, growl + charge any dog within view. Our other trainer basically told us that we will never be able to socialize Charlie and that we just need to avoid other dogs. Well, within 15 minutes, Ryland had Charlie walking alongside one of his dogs and by the end of the hour, Charlie (laying on her back) was sharing a couch with the other dog. I was BEYOND impressed. If you have a happy go lucky dog and can tolerate someone who is a little footloose and fancy free, Ry's your man. Otherwise, not so much. My dog is a year and a half old rescue. She has a ton of energy and minimal training. I've only had her three months and she came with zero training. After second day with Ry, I got a phone call where he berated me for being an irresponsible and incompetent owner. He had lots of ideas of exactly what I was doing wrong and what i needed to do and how he knew everything. My take away was that he didn't or couldn't make the time and energy to work with the situation. But his way of communicating that was inappropriate. I do have some concern over the fact that the dogs seem to spend a lot of time being carted around in crates in the back of a van. Also, like other reviewers have said, he's hit and miss in terms of reliability. In the bay area, people who provide services that aren't extremely lucrative are now hard to come by and the few working get to do and behave however they see fit with little consequences because there's almost no competition. Such is the case with Ry. Ry loves dogs and interacts well with them. If your dog fits easily into what he's doing, you will be happy. If not, be warned, he's going to be unpleasant and, in my mind, behave inappropriately. From reading the reviews, sounds like he should never be hired to pet sit a cat. He should just stick to dogs. read more

Unless you enjoy putting your pet in a kennel, it's hard to find a place where Dogs have the freedom to roam around. I found Ry through word of mouth 3 years ago and I'm so glad I did. He has been taking my 2 dogs for day care and boarding ever since. He is very conscientious, professional and fair. He treats my dogs as well as or better than I do! It's clear that he and the guys who help him love dogs and they understand how to work best with them. He'll even send daily photos of the dogs sitting and smiling during their hikes! This is my favorite place to leave my dog, Winston. I would love to be so lucky to be a dog hanging out on his property (otherwise known as dog mountain house), the location is the most idyllic spot in the mountains of woodside tucked right where the sun comes through!! Winston comes home like a brand new dog after a couple of days here. He spends his mornings tanning in the sun next to the healing energy of the redwoods and his afternoons running through the winding dog runs that are affluent throughout Rylands property. I would recommend his boarding/ daycare to anyone who is a little overly protective/obsessed with their dogs. Love Ry! We first started sending our 2 dogs to him when we moved to the area 3 years ago. They love going there, when we go on vacation the dogs are on a vacation of their own. He even picks up and drops off. So nice to have one less worry . The pics he sends during the stay are great too. We always see the dogs hiking in the woods and having a great time. The most telling sign is that the dogs are ecstatic when he arrives, always happy to go. Ry even gave medications when one of our dogs needed it. I used Ry The Pet Guy for my first out-of-town trip with my new dog. We did tons of research and ultimately settled on him because of the glowing reviews. Our experience was terrible. It was impossible to get a hold of him, and we were talking to a new person each time; information was not relayed or organized among staff so the process to book him was a mess. The man who came to our house to meet our dog was great, but that is not who showed up to pick him up. The person who showed up was not Ry - he did not want to talk. He was extremely brusque - he literally opened the door, said he was here for the dog, took the leash, and left. No introduction, no conversation. My dog was barking and freaking out, and I was running after him with the food he needed for the next few days. It was traumatic, honestly. So then we go on our trip and send several emails, texts, and calls to Ry - he responded to NONE of them for over 24 hours. The last time I saw my dog was getting loaded into a white van. I thought it was a scam and he had been kidnapped. I considered calling the police. When he did finally get in touch, he said that our dog was "piddling" out of fear, something he has never done. I'm not sure if he mixed up our dog with another dog, or if our dog was so scared that he was peeing. We got no pictures. No further texts/calls/emails. It ruined our trip because we were so nervous. I will never use him again, and would warn everyone against it. I also was talking to a friend who had a very similar experience. 0 stars. read more

I had to go attend to a family emergency / funeral the exact same weekend that a stray Siamese cat I had rescued was due to deliver her kittens. I was new to the Menlo Park area at the time, and didn't know anyone who could come spend the weekend at my apartment to oversee the kitten delivery. I also did NOT want to board a pregnant stray cat at a vet's office where she would have freaked out, for sure. So I scheduled Ry to visit her every 12 hours, and left the name of our authorized vet in case anything happened during the delivery of the kittens. He followed my instructions, gave me regular reports, and he safely delivered her kittens. The Mama Cat and Kittens and their nesting box were very clean, well fed and happy when I returned. The dirty laundry was put aside in a bag to be washed. And everything was awesome. We would definitely hire him again. read more

When we returned home after the weekend in which we had left our cat in Ry's care, we realized that he had not made a single visit to our home and the cat's bowl was absolutely empty. He did not call us until we called warning to sue him. I adopted my dog, Oreo, in early March... in early June I had a 4-5 day business trip scheduled. I didn't know the scoop on local boarding houses, so I made an appointment with Bark Park in RWC. Just days before the trip, I went to Bark Park to drop off some paperwork; I'd never visited before, so I made some assumptions on what to expect. NEVER assume! You can review my Yelp review on them, but needless to say I was completely appalled - I couldn't bring myself to leave my new little (and older) dog there. On short notice, I called Ry - desperate to find someone quickly who would be a quality caregiver/boarder for my little Oreo. Ry was prompt to answer my call, and very accommodating. We did a 1/2-day daycare visit ($20) to test out the compatibility... it went well, so Ry boarded Oreo in his home during my business trip. The price was just a few dollars more per day than Bark Park, but it was WELL worth it. Not only is Ry's home relaxed and CLEAN (extremely), but both he and his mother are very warm and friendly, and it's very clear that Ry has passion and love for his work, as well as a ton of experience. Like others, Ry sent me pics of little Oreo during her stay with him -- it was SO wonderful to see her happy and relaxed while I was gone. One can only imagine the stress animals go through at animal shelters, and only being a few months out of the shelter (and 10 years old), I was a little concerned over her stress level. Well... she was great! On top of all this, at the last minute I had to ask Ry to keep Oreo for an additional night (there was a bit of a miscommunication between me and my boyfriend about pick-up days)... he was not only fine with it, but he didn't charge me for the additional night. I thought that was extremely generous; I'm not sure he'd like it publicized that he gave away services, but I think the point is - he's ethical and really pleasant/easy to work with. I would not at ALL hesitate for a micro-second about leaving my Oreo with Ry in the future, and will rave about him to all that I meet. Thank you Ry!! read more

I've had experiences with both Ry and Anthony, and both are INCREDIBLE. Some backdrop. I have two special needs dogs. One was rescued from an abusive situation and has serious trust issues. The other was rescued from a dog fighter and can be VERY volatile around other dogs, given the violence and abuse she faced when she was younger. I've had bad experiences with dog walkers in the past, who are unable to handle the girls. And so always have to screen walkers very carefully before choosing one. Even then, I'm usually very anxious. But Ry and Anthony earned my trust completely. They are both incredible dog people who love being around the girls. They are diligent about responding to communication, and they go out of their way to make the experience pleasant and comfortable for everyone. Anthony also is just a super good dude. For example, there were many times I cancelled last minute, or had to request a walk last minute. He was almost always more than welcome to help, and many times tried to refuse my attempts to pay him late/weekend fees! The highest recommendation you can give to a dog walker is that you trust them with your girls. I trust Ry and Anthony completely. read more

This is so long overdue! Ry is one of the best dog boarders we have ever worked with! I am from the Bay Area but live in Southern California and we were heading home for Christmas. We needed a great place for our year old Great Dane to sleep and Ry worked with us on a last minute type situation which was greatly appreciated! His home is catered to dogs of all sizes with indoor dog runs (if it's raining), a huge outdoor yard with trees and tons of play area, dog beds EVERYWHERE and a big truck to drop your pet off in the morning or pick him up at night time! He sends you pictures all day long of the new friends your pet is making and the hikes that they go on! It really puts your mind at ease! We feel very lucky to have Ry in our lives to help us with our standard poodle, Zoey. She has stayed with him for about three shorter visits and one 10 day visit while we traveled to a wedding back east. It is so great not to worry about her--we know she is happy, running around in a beautiful woodsy environment with other nice dogs. Ry takes videos of Zoey in motion and sends them to us, and we watch them over and over again since she is our baby. He is very sensitive to her slightly diva-ish alpha personality, helping her to integrate with her species-mates (of course since she is a poodle, she thinks she is a human!)
