The idea behind this deli is good. However, we have discovered the product is not fresh and not clean. While waiting to pay, we were horrified to see little roaches crawling inside the packaged boxes of chocolate covered pretzels. Shocked we turned our gaze to a candy bin and can you believe saw little bugs crawling inside packages there too. There is simply too much expired inventory sitting everywhere and a lack of cleanliness throughout. I'm sorry but this establishment is a poor reflection on traditional Jewish delis. Food has always been decent but overpriced, even for the brook. However our recent waitress was actually one of the worst waitresses I've ever had anywhere. The food here is terrible. I had a corned beef and pastrami sandwich that was dried out and full of gristle. No exaggeration -- my jaw got tired from chewing so much/hard. Despite the fact that I was craving corned beef/pastrami, my sandwich was inedible. I ordered a hot dog for my daughter and specifically asked that it not be overcooked. What came out was so shriveled and dried up, it too was basically inedible. I was going to complain but I couldn't get the attention of my waiter and my teenage daughter wanted to just leave. We go here frequently and the food is acceptable. My girlfriend loves the matzoh ball soup. The odd thing is we never, ever see an owner here. Mediocre food at New York City prices. The place has a good location, the deli counter looks like it has choice meats, but somehow they always seem to underwhelm. The wait staff are slow and try to serve as if it were a fancy restaurant instead of a deli which doesn't work well. For example they will wait until the full table's order is ready before serving which means half your order can wait an additional 20 minutes until a side of fries is ready and you end up with cold food and hot fries. They wait way too long between seating, taking an order, and bringing the check. A quick lunch for 3 came to over $50, which is easy to get to when they charge $3 for a 12oz can of soda! So I called placed an order, as I always do most Monday mornings because I like the Deli but today I placed a simple order and waited as I normally do. 25 min past by so I thought to call just to make sure everything was okay because last time the delivery person got lost and I had to go look for her to get my food so even after that I still ordered today because hey! we all make mistakes, but when I called this time and I stated my name and said is everything okay the person on the other end answered me in a rude tone saying "what you mean",, and I had to tell him what happened to me last time, he said the person was new I get it, fine, but I asked is the food on its way. He then asked "what did I want to order" as if he had no knowledge of anything even though he had my profile up. I then found that my order was not ready, he then said "you want it or not" I never call rude or with an attitude even when they get my order wrong sometimes, today I cancelled my order because the person on the other phone around 9:30 am was so rude to me, the food is okay but the people can be rude. no one wants to be talk to crazy on a Monday morning. not cool will not call back. Rye Ridge is a quintessential deli, however, dramatic price increases seem to be higher for this establishments a compared to others. Still, Rein's located in Vernon rules. Rye Ridge is No.2 but that's not so bad. Oscar's closed in Westport, a sorry loss for we deli lovers. Rye Ridge is well worth the trip. Bring your money belt. read more

I've been a reluctant customer at this dingy deli for over 10 years....simply a matter of supply and demand. These guys survive as the only game in town. I have navigated the mediocre overpriced food for a long time, but my last visit was the star that broke the camel's back. I ordered a very simple chicken salad on toasted whole wheat bread. Rather than being served "normal" toast, I was served what was clearly a leftover toast from hours earlier. If anyone has ever saved and tried to reheat toast they know exactly what I'm referring to....not burnt but had the dryness and consistency of a melba toast cracker. When I pointed it out to the waiter he sheepishly shrugged his shoulders. A rude non-english speaking "manager" was sent out to deal with my question and he just got irate at the suggestion that the kitchen was serving leftovers to customer, while other waitstaff laughed behind his back at the exchange. When our waiter returned he conceded that the kitchen tries to limit waste so sometimes they re serve things like toast, pickels, cole slaw or even fries if they don't seem like they've been touched. I would give it zero stars if Yelp allowed that. I stopped there on Tuesday to grab a sandwich, excited that they had GlutenFree options. However, after I asked the employees if they had a separate prep area for glutenfree, they informed me that they make the GF sandwiches ON THE SAME BOARD as the gluten items. Um. That's not glutenfree, and they'll make a lot of people very sick by doing that. They offered to 'put some paper down,' but couldn't guarantee that no crumbs would get into my GF sandwich. I was sooooooo disappointed that they are listed as having glutenfree items, especially when their staff clearly has NO CLUE about celiac disease or what will happen with cross-contact of gluten items. I ended up leaving without any food and I went next-door to Balducci's grocery store to just buy a loaf of glutenfree bread and some pre-packaged deli meat. It was less expensive than the DELI, anyway! I feel like YELP needs to add a warning that if people have celiac disease, they should NOT EAT AT RYE RIDGE DELI. Earlier this week, my family and I had lunch at the Deli. I was highly dissatisfied with the wait service. The waiter was rude and couldn't understand what we wanted to drink. After telling him several time we wanted to order a glass of wine, he stated that the Deli has none. The menu indicated "ask your server for our wine choices." Another waiter overheard the discussion and went to get the wine. However when he returned, he slammed the bottle of wine on our table in front of myself and my family. Having customer service experience for over 30 years, that is not how you treat a paying customer. While I have enjoyed some meals in the restaurant, their delivery service is HORRIBLE. I would have given no stars if I had the option. I ordered a fruit salad platter. They did NOT include the potato salad, cole slaw or tomato......or fresh fruit. They put one leaf of lettuce in a huge container, filled it with jello and toped with a few grapes and some other OLD bits of fruit. Instant Jello for $14. I'm never ordering from them again. My boyfriend and I have passed this deli a few times.. always decided to go to starbucks instead, but this morning we had a little extra time and decided to try this deli without looking at reviews, which i definitely wished we looked before!!!! Sat down place was empty, a deli in New York empty? There had to be something wrong, We both ordered an egg white wrap with our choice of meat and cheese. The wraps were mediocre at best and orange juice 5 dollars for freshly squeezed oj?? more like concentrate.. do not waste your money! The server was SO rude, she walked over to our table when we were finished with the check.. placed the check on the table and said "wow that was expensive"with an attitude. To our surprised our wraps were 15 dollars EACH! The wrap and i guess egg beaters were 10 dollars and everything else within the wrap cost extra... and not just 50 cents to 1.50 extra... 5 dollars extra. I HAVE NEVER PAID MORE THEN 8 DOLLARS FOR THIS EXACT WRAP on long island, egg white turkey and cheese. They charged it under "build your own burrito", Just looked back at the menu online and this item isnt even stated on the menu!!! When we questioned the cashier up front, he gave us attitude like he didn't understand how we could be asking this. Having read other reviews I feel much better that my wish to have less than one star to rate this place was supported by educated articulate people. I feel like the loyal readership and Westchester NY community deserve more detail...I walked into this dump and it was 1/4 full at best. 4 workers were behind the deli counter doing God knows what. No one looked up to acknowledge me let alone take my order. I eventually spoke up and got GLARES by the staff who are mindlessly RUDE. This attitude absolutely MUST come from the top. I placed my order of soup (pre-prepared, knishes (pre-prepared) and a chicken cutlet on a roll w lettuce and tomato. Can it get more basic than that? FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER...in a nearly empty restaurant (note: I am at the deli counter...also EMPTY) I am still waiting for my order. I ask what's going on...and here is where it gets good...the guy "helping" me who is BEYOND rude begins to LECTURE ME about how long it takes to make a chicken cutlet on roll w lettuce and tomato...and I ask, "more than 15 minutes?" I am told, "yes...everything is made from scratch." Oh, please. What a joke. 20 minutes later, my order in an otherwise empty restaurant was available for payment...$52 for soup, knishes and a single sandwich. This price is ridiculous...for what you get...which is light on quality and heavy on attitude. Oh, and to Scott the owner...who answers all these honest and well described pans of this dump...save your BS narrative and excuses. Why not spend MORE time in the place you own and manage and see for yourself if your staff should be trained or fired... Scott, I was very disappointed with Rye Ridge Deli. I purchased a turkey, swiss, lettuce and tomato sandwich on a wedge and paid $13.25. Not sure why this was so expensive, it's the most simple sandwich you can get. For two slices of cheese and 10 slices of turkey (end part of the turkey may I add), the cost was surprising. I am from Westchester and work in Greenwich and have ordered this sandwich in many different other deli's and paid nothing close to this amount. The most I've paid is $9 at other deli's and they were a lot more generous with the deli meats and cheeses. I have images of what I purchased if you would like to see. I'm not a complainer and appreciate food, but I have to say, my mouth dropped and was very confused that you would charge so much for a turkey and cheese sandwich. I wonder what it would cost if I purchased a prosciutto sandwich instead??? Unbelievable pricing here, over the top! If you are looking to try out this deli, get pricing before you order! read more
